Game Thread - Lakers at Jazz

Good Jazz brings to mind names like "Coltrane," "Davis," and "Monk." Bad Jazz brings to mind names like "G," "G," and "G." Let's hope tonight's jazz is even weaker than the stuff played by Kenny.

Good playoff teams make adjustments.
Let's go lakers! Let's go
CLAP! CLAP!
Go lakers!

I'm not worried about this game, expect a more 3 man play from our Lakers, drive and dish, and a more effective pick-n-roll from Pau and Kobe.
Like our MVP always say, just keep close...as long as we are in a striking distance we will prevail.
Go Lakers!!!

never--
I agree with you. I also think the Lakers will lose.
But not tonight.
If they are going to drop a game to Utah, I'm guessing it will be Sunday, and then the series will close out in 5 games back at L.A.
Tonight the third quarter will look a lot like some of the late season games where the Lakers played poorly in the first half and then just clamped down in the third.

All the Utah shooters are hitting, while the Lakers are going cold. Utah is playing well, while the Lakers are struggling, but Utah is only up by 9.
If the Lakers can start hitting their shoots... like layups... and get some D on the shooters, then they'll be back into it quickly, while getting the crowd out of it.
Kobe needs to get more aggressive.
GO LAKERS!!!

It's all about the run. We are going to get our stops and we are going to get our run in this 2nd half...
We will prevail...Go Lakers

Agree with never. I'm afraid Farmar may never have an NBA body. He's just too light and skinny.
He looks good in the rookie-sophomore game and in the regular season bec. teams weren't playing real defense.
When teams start playing real defense in the playoffs, Farmar looks like a skinny kid who is out of his league.
He needs to do some serious muscle building in the offseason, hire a personal trainer.
And Mitch needs to look at backup PG possibilities perhaps through a FA. Exactly, the reason why Critt was drafted.

everybody know right now that's the way to stop pau is to be physical with him, push him out. that why he is no longer being a factor in the playoff after game 1 against denver.
Posted by: VINNY | May 09, 2008 at 07:31 PM
Obviously Pau having a disappointing night, and Kobe can only have more impact as the game goes on...others (surprisingly, including D-Fish) not really making much impact, except Turiaf, who's manning up and showing his game nicely.
But they're all trying to iso, and there is ZERO penetration, so no easy baskets off cuts, etc. D needs to pick up a bit, although Lamar's brought his good D and rebounding.
This Deron Williams wrist thing could turn up later in the series as a problem for the Jazz.

Xodus,
You are looks like a smart guy, why you even bother to argue with pfunk36? He show up only when things got bad, you never see him here when Lakers winning.
Sasha/Farmar 0-8, this will not do it. What is going on with Farmar? Last year in playoffs he played better than now. How about all this "summer improvement" thing?
Posted by: LAL_Fan | May 09, 2008 at 07:32 PM
Xodus
That's your problem......I'm not interested in as you say "kobe getting his points".
The objective is for him to be more aggressive offensively to cause the defense to adjust and THAT will free up the offense hopefully for others for easy baskets.
Posted by: pfunk36 | May 09, 2008 at 07:33 PM
SECOND HALF STARTS NOW!
Before tip off-I did not expect that we would win this game but would have been pumped if we did. Now that the first half is in the books I like our chances. We can and will play better. If not, Game 3 will be a blow out for the Jazz..
GO LAKERS!
ps Not only is John Barry a biased good for nothing but his on air persona is really a joke. What is he looking at as he stares at the camera acting all tough...sorry meant to mention this earlier. He had the audacity in the pre-game show to question Kobe and his tendency to be a ball hog. Along the lines of will the "real" Kobe pls stand up. Nuff said Barry is a disgrace.

Lakers pissing me off.
Close out!

Challenge! Challenge!
Challenge the freakin shot!
Posted by: Faith | May 09, 2008 at 07:38 PM
MVP starting to exert his will on the game.
Posted by: LakerinBC | May 09, 2008 at 07:38 PM
Damn, Vlad didn't even PRETEND to cover that 3 attempt in the corner! Kobe is recognizing he needs to take over, but he's doing it cautiously...in a way you wouldn't see a year or more ago. Pau needs to pick himself up and get working.
Posted by: onanoman | May 09, 2008 at 07:39 PM
Crappy ass D.
Posted by: Faith | May 09, 2008 at 07:40 PM
Onanoman,
I actually rewound my tivo and watched Vlad do nothing on the three by AK-47. I was like, "He couldn't have possibly just stood there and watched like it seemed." Turned out, he did.

Converted half of stadium to Laker fans, Kobe did with that dunk.
Now called, Lack-Of-Energy Solutions Arena.

Great job by Kobe to keep his team in the game. TAKE OUT GASOL. HE is the definition of SOFT. HORRIBLE DEFENSE. No rotations. No individual defense. Take him out. He cannot play against physical teams. Bring in Turiaf. PLEASE! Look up soft in the dictionary and you will find Gasol's picture right next to the word.
Posted by: Tom | May 09, 2008 at 07:43 PM
Can anybody tell me what is going on with Pau? He is not playing D or O for this matter. Yes Kobe is scoring, so is Utah, they have to stop them..
Posted by: LAL_Fan | May 09, 2008 at 07:43 PM
Gasoldidn't have lunch, I think. He is looking so weak and lost. C'mon Pau. Have some libido.
Posted by: Lakergurl | May 09, 2008 at 07:43 PM
pau is doing nothing. kwame part 2 !!!!!!!!!!!

Not the start to the 3rd I was hoping for.

Xodus
If Phil were smart could suppress his ego he would relax some segments of the triangle tonight and open the floor for Kobe to be more aggressive either in the post or dribble penetration from screens
This is for tonight only because that is the flow of the game.
At some point Utah will have to adjust and then others can get involved.
But with Tex and Phil .........just keep running the damn triangle
Posted by: pfunk36 | May 09, 2008 at 07:44 PM
Kobe's defense is going to suffer since he has to carry the load on the offensive end. Run offense through Kobe and everybody else D the hell up.
Kobe single handily keeping us in the game.
Posted by: Tej | May 09, 2008 at 07:44 PM
COMPTON,
Vlad has been in the game, but he's not doing anything. Luke hasn't played that much. Why can't Vlad be like Okor? The problem I have with Vlad is that he's suppose to be a 3 point specialist, and the games he's dominated from the 3 have been few and far between.
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 07:44 PM
ATTACK!!!!! ATTACK!!!!!!! ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!
GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sloan, silly technical.
Posted by: Master Yoda | May 09, 2008 at 07:49 PM
just stay close and utah will choke in the 4th
Posted by: Fairweather Fatty | May 09, 2008 at 07:49 PM
With no consistent outside shot, Vlad is expendable.
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 07:50 PM
This is Pau's introduction to true playoff basketball.
The Lakers have been playing so well until tonight, that Pau hasn't yet had to face a really good, tough team on the road.
Tonight Pau learns.
Tomorrow Pau dominates!

D-Fense!
D-Fense!
If I had one of those graphics of the D and the fence, I'd use it.
Go Lakers!
Posted by: Faith | May 09, 2008 at 07:50 PM
When Kobe refers to high IQ players he is not talking about Vlad. KOBE HAS NOT MISSED THIS QUARTER PASS HIM THE F****** BALL. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Tom | May 09, 2008 at 07:50 PM
Well I was wondering when "THESE" Lakers would show up...lacking the much needed fire and poise....God please let them make a liar out of me.
Posted by: Rhon Salmon | May 09, 2008 at 07:50 PM
OK. Get Radmon out. He's shooting blanks.
Listen to me...WE CAN STEAL THIS ONE TONITE!
Smart play and coaching could put us up 3-0. Let's not give them anything to hang their Magic Underwear on!

Posted by: COMPTON FINEST | May 09, 2008 at 07:53 PM
I really don't see anything happening in this game that is surprising. We knew Utah would come out playing scared and hard, we knew they would get what I will call a more favorable officiating philsophy at home, and we knew that they weren't going to shoot 38% for the whole series. But the Lakers are still the better team. Not much surprise there either.
Posted by: phred | May 09, 2008 at 07:53 PM
Boozer, awfully excited gets about an easy call.
Luke, wondering why no call on the Milsap foul?
Posted by: Master Yoda | May 09, 2008 at 07:56 PM
YOU EVER NOTICE
At times, Kobe is slow in making a pass inside when a man (usually Gasol) is open on a pick & roll.
If he could react a little quicker, his game would be even more remarlable.
Posted by: YOU EVER NOTICE | May 09, 2008 at 07:59 PM
7 is the number.
7 is attainable provided we play D, and be smart on our O.
GO Lakers!

We can't keep trading baskets but I especially like Kobe's aggressiveness
I wonder where we would be If Kobe started the game this way instead of running the offense through Gasol earlier.
You ever wonder that Xodus?
Or do you have to have nine rings?
This isn't rocket science
Posted by: pfunk36 | May 09, 2008 at 08:00 PM
Gasol and Vlad have been totally ineffective in this game.
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 08:00 PM
Striking Distance, we are well within.
Create fouls early we must, the penalty they will pay.
Posted by: Master Yoda | May 09, 2008 at 08:00 PM
Gasol seems simply unable to tune into how the Jazz play. I hope Ronny can stay out of foul trouble, so he can be on the floor as long as possible. Go Lakers!
