Finally, some news

May 3, 2008 | 10:28 am

After a few days of quiet, we finally have something to talk about.  First, there's the pageantry, in case you missed the news: Kobe Bryant will win the first MVP award of his 12-year career

We'll just let that hang there, because it makes a lot of people really happy.

In other news, that little matter of who the Lakers will play in Round 2 has been determined.  Over a team dinner Friday night, the Lakers watched the Jazz polish off the Rockets in Salt Lake 113-91 to close the series in six games.  The Jazz will head to Staples for Game 1 on Sunday.  Both teams know they're facing a more formidable opponent.  Utah sees a team with more depth and talent, the Lakers one with more discipline, plenty of skill, and a lot more physicality.   Utah has the bulk to deal with LA's length, and they're certainly an efficient bunch.  Fortunately, the Lakers aren't exactly a bunch of slackers, either.

There will be plenty of subplots in the series, but none perhaps more interesting than Derek Fisher's

Not everyone loves Mitch Kupchak.

No real shock here, but don't look for Andrew Bynum before next season.

Wes,

Great poem! Clever.

Congratulations to KB24! Hard earned, well deserved, long over due!

I am considering leaving the blog too in protest of the protestations against the roll call and other stuff that really, if you think about it, make the blog the special place that it is.

Yes some of the stuff on the blog is mildly irritating, and occasionally really annoying, and once in a while, crass and insulting but for the most part it's great fun. My grandma always used to tell me that if you didn't know sorrow you could never know happiness and vice versa. She always used to say too that Heaven must be a real boring place ...Anyway Mamba24, please consider coming back and posting the roll call ... I'm thinking tomorrow's game just ain't gonna feel right without the dratted thing.

"Those of you who go out of your way, either by cuting and pasting massive posts specifically to be an ass simply won't get your posts through."

And Mamba24's post differ from this how?

That's favoritism, plain and simple. I won't stand for it.

AK/BK,

Why is it ok for one person to SPAM the board, but no-one else?

A posting length limit is needed. This comes from a guy who has been with your from the first day you started this blog. These people are spammers, the fact that I am not also allowed to spam if spamming is to be allowed is unfair. I like you guys and what you do a lot, but I'll make this into trouble if you're gonna be pricks about it.

JW Weatherman,

It's discrimination, yes. A distinction was made between a long post made in good faith loved by most readers and a post made specifically to annoy.

Sometimes life gives you these hard decisions.

It calls for strong, wise individuals to make their choices.

K bros show they have good judgment in doing what they think is best for their blog.

Have you just outed yourself as the guy behind the spam?

Interesting.

JWW-

I tried to send you an email, but it was bounced back. Anyway, the short version of what I wrote to you is that it's pretty simple- most people don't see the roll call as spam. Not everyone reads it, but that's true of many comments. Many enjoy it. There's no reason to make it stop. It's easy to scroll over.

As for a word limit, we have enough things to worry about in monitoring comments, from catching long URLs to foul language to abusive language to spam to worry about counting words or paragraphs. If someone posts something that is relevant and long, chances are it's going to be fine.

Hopefully you understand our position here, and why we made the decision we did. Hopefully it doesn't impact on your participation on the site. But I don't appreciate being threatened, that you're going to make this into trouble if we don't do it your way. We have a fun, vibrant community on this site, and periodically have to make decisions to keep it that way. This would be one of those times.

In the end, it's important to remember that this is a sports blog. It's not life and dealth. If you don't like a post, scroll through it.

BK

The entire Metro Manila is elated over the news that Kobe has won the MVP award.

Great news for a great job done by a great athlete!
