Below is the official press release from the Lakers, although the post's title summed it all up rather nicely.
AK
Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today in New York, it was announced today by the team. The procedure, which took 30 minutes and was performed by Dr. David Altchek, consisted of removing some cartilage debris and smoothing some rough spots on the underside of the kneecap. Bynum is expected to make a full recovery by the start of training camp.

WE'LL BE UNSTOPPABLE THE NEXT 3 OR 4 YEARS!!!
Heal up AB... see you at training camp!!!

I'm surprised the surgery wasn't broadcast live in the LA area... I'm sure it would have garnered a ton of Lakers viewers, lol.

The Spurs, Celtics and Pistons better give it their best shot this year, because next year we will be Sweeping them in the playoffs or in the regular season!
Other than the Blazers, Hornies, Jazz, Magic, Bulls and Hawks, the rest of the NBA will be in rebuilding mode.
Get well Baby Bynum, the Lakers dynasty awaits!

Great news but must have been much worse than any of us could have imagined. He is rehabbing all Summer?
Hope to see him on the bench for G2!

The procedure only lasted 30 minutes?
Is that all, just 30 minutes?
Is that a normal time to correct a knee problem given the amount of pain Andrew was supposedly experiencing from it?
I too am glad to hear the good news of AB’s successful surgery. And wish him all the luck in healing and getting ready for next year where the Lakers should indeed steamroll (again, if they can stay healthy over the season of course).
But since there was no other damage found by the scope. I hope it is not also a physiological thing with Andrew, where he is afraid to really push that knee in his recovery to game form. Least he fear a re-subluxation of the kneecap or some other.

So glad the surgery was minimal and a success!!! The rest of the league is going to have a very powerful frontline to deal with next year of Bynum, Gasol and Odom!!!!! Best of luck in your recovery Andrew!!!! Come back soon we need you and miss your inside defensive presence!!!!

Great news! Godspeed and heal well AB!
That's all that is required to relieve the pain. I'm sure the little debris or fragments / roughness under the kneecap was responsible for the pain he was experiencing. It's like having a hang nail or a big piece of meat wedged between your teeth - just plain sucks. I wished it was done from the get go and he could be almost ready for the Finals. Can't wait to see the whole force next year!
