Behind enemy lines
The Lakers did their part holding serve in L.A., but now the venue has changed as game 3 (5:30 pm PST, TNT) approaches. This time, it's in San Antonio, where the Spurs have matched the Lakers' undefeated clip. To a large degree, the series is now a brand new animal, which explains why Kobe Bryant plans to go into grizzly bear mode when it comes to keeping his mates even more focused. After all, the shift to the road is serious business, and not just because the team hopes against a return to L.A. with a 2-2 split. Or even a 3-1 advantage. Frankly, they'd prefer not to play in L.A. again unless it's against an Eastern Conference opponent. But beyond simply any chances to put the Spurs on the ropes, there's a real shot for this Laker squad to truly show what they're made of as they square off against the defending champs on their turf. That kind of success will come through their continued de-monopolization of the rock, along with keeping life miserable for (the underrated, according to some)Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli, whose injured situation will garner no sympathy from Derek Fisher. Basically, the objective is to clamp down on the throat of their opponents and keep them in their current posture, which has been on their heels.
The only thing missing for Luke Walton during the Lakers' success has been his dad's presence, which has been tabled by back pain.
Lamar Odom's life has been steeped in both loss and controversy, but he's come out of it a wiser and mature man (not to mention a pretty good basketball player).
For those who haven't seen it yet, Kobe's latest Hyperdunk promo, this time with the "Jackass" crew.

Demonopolization - great word! No need for the hyphen in there though.
This is the year the Lakers demonopolize the NBA from the boring, defense-only oriented finals of years past.

basketball from the ex ring wearers.

I think most pundits would expect the Spurs to shoot better and the Lakers to shoot worse. That's just what happens on the road. The Spurs will have more energy and certain Lakers players will feel less comfortable...
Not to give Sasha a back-handed compliment, but does anyone else think that he's not aware enough to be fazed by playing in a hostile environment? As if it doesn't occur to him that's what's supposed to happen?
I think it was Kenny Smith who said during the game 2 post-game and picked up by one of the LA Times reporters that there really isn't an obvious thing the Spurs need to adjust to against the Lakers offense. It's moving so fluidly that it's become unpredictable and therefore harder to defend. I think that's the point. Given that, I expect the Spurs will just focus on executing what they're doing better. If I were them, I'd put emphasis on disrupting the passing lanes more. They need to create more turnovers like they did in the first half of game 1.
I hope that all the talk coming from the Lakers is genuine, in that they really respect the experience of the Spurs and know that this is a team that won't beat itself. Pop may have thrown in the towel around the 8 minute mark of the fourth quarter last game but no towel is going to be thrown in this series on the whole. I expect a war - the first real grind-it-out game of the series.

Two things the Lakers should keep in the back of their minds when preparing:
2006 Lakers-Suns
1: LAKERS 102 @ SUNS 107 FINAL
2: LAKERS 99 @ SUNS 93 FINAL
3: SUNS 92 @ LAKERS 99 FINAL
4: SUNS 98 @ LAKERS 99 FINAL
5: LAKERS 97 @ SUNS 114 FINAL
6: SUNS 126 @ LAKERS 118 FINAL
7: LAKERS 90 @ SUNS 121 FINAL
2008 Hornets-Spurs
# GAME 1: SPURS 82 @ HORNETS 101 FINAL
# GAME 2: SPURS 84 @ HORNETS 102 FINAL
# GAME 3: HORNETS 99 @ SPURS 110 FINAL
# GAME 4: HORNETS 80 @ SPURS 100 FINAL
# GAME 5: SPURS 79 @ HORNETS 101 FINAL
# GAME 6: HORNETS 80 @ SPURS 99 FINAL

The Lakers victories in the off season was not only the result of transition offense but it was great defense by our front line men like Fisher, Sasha, Farmar and Kobe in helping double teaming and swarming at attacking point guards from JR Smith, AI, Deron Williams and now Manu & tony Parker. We are being complimented by the mainstream media on this great D
http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/8172066
Then, once they pass the front lines, they get into traps from the tall and long hands like Odom, Pau, Luke and Vlad. Individually, they are called soft and finnesse players but as a team they do a great job in blocking shots and helping in rebounds. Wait for the next bunch of Lakers to develop like Trevor, Bynum, Turiaf, and Mbenga then you get to the hard core of defense that the league has been waiting for.

GAME DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today's game will probably be the hardest game in the series. The Spurs know that being down 2-0 means nothing (even though the Lakers are better than the Hornets). A Laker win and the series is over, a Laker loss and its time to pull up the sleeves. I just see the Spurs coming out too determined, too much pride to lose after getting whooped by 30.
I'm expecting to see all the role players come up big if the Lakers are to win. I'm looking for Walton especially, going to need lots of assists from Walton. Also, it will be fun to see Ariza in the game when it matters, hope he can play like he knows how.

Oh yea, that Kobe video was pretty sweet. Too bad there were only 48 pairs of the hyperdunks released ( 24 home, 24 away) and they are going for close to a grand on ebay. Luckily I got some cool Lamar Odom Huaraches PE's on ebay for a reasonable price. They have the LO sign all over em and gotta love the strong Laker colors in the shoe.

Good Morning Laker Nation!!!!!!!!!!
I'ts gameday, where the hell are you Mamba24 we need you for roll call!!!!
It's Simi Laker girl in the house, we are rockin and rollin- come 5:30 we will be winning too!!!!
Come one, come all, everyone gets a first row seat to the Spurs vs. LAKERS where Mamba 24 will score 42 points, Lamar Odom will have a triple double double, Derek Fisher wont let Ginobli score, Vlady will step it up and Ariza will have more minutes. I believe the Lakers will have a close to flawless game again and while the refs may screw us it's going to be one of the most exciting games this year.
Just sit right back & you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip
That started from this LA team aboard Kobe's hip.
The mate was a mighty Mamba Man, The Pau brave & sure.
Five starters set sail today for a three hour tour,
A three hour tour
The weather started getting rough, the referees started screwing us
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The game would be lost,
The game would be lost.
The team's a-ground on the shore of this uncharted Texas exile
With Kobe,
The Fisher too,
Pau Gasol and his life,
The rad Vlad
The Farmar and Sasha-man
Here on Lakers time!
LETS TAKE GAME THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO LAKERS!!!!!
PURPLE AND GOLD!!!!!!

Lakers Legacy,
With regards to the article of Adande, if you read the past posts on this blog about the Laker Euro players, he is saying the same thing. I have a theory that these journalists get their ideas from posts of fans like us who provide them veritable information about our team and they picked it up and claim as their own. (Putting it in another way, this is similar to Columbus sailing westward claiming that he discovered the West Indies when in fact, there were already inhabitants living there, but since they didn't have the credentials in the European sphere, the visitors claimed that they are the real discoverers of the New World.)
Speaking of Euro players, I wonder what Theo Papaloukas and Juan Navarro felt when they almost became Lakers last summer. Today, Theo is with CSKA Moscow, the Euroleague Champs while Juan Navarro is with Memphis. They have no trust of the Lakers, all they heard was Kobe rants and headlines so they perceived us as a weak team. For a budding Euro, there is no alternative from coveting the dream of NBA Champs, the most prestigious basketball league in the world. Because of its history of stiff competitions, it is higher than acquiring gold medal in the Olympic Basketball Competitions or the FIBA League.

Interesting observation. Sorta like Atlanta against Boston. Sometimes youthful ignorance and that feeling of I don't care what the situation is im still gunna ball till I fall attitude is just what's needed. I hate to see a scripted game..sorta like SA vs NO..both teams winning at home by a margin of 20pts. That's crazy..how does a change in scenery effect the original game plan of defense and execution. Sasha's "Quick trigger" attitude is something Farmar needs to embrace. Shots will fall but be aggressive. SA expect the home crowd to help win the game..uhh..did anyone see last night Bean Town vs Motor City drubbin'! Cool intro..but non the less Jerry Sloan said it best.."Don't expect the home crowd to win this game for you"..and as long as LA execute there game plan to the letter..I see no reason why we can't sweep the Spurs. Its not impossiible!

Its time again Lakers boys and girls, for Mr. Fatty's Neighborhood.
Mrs. Fatty is getting tired of Mr. Fatty spending countless hours on the Lakers Blog. So Mr. Fatty is typing while Mrs. Fatty is going to the market.
Let's keep this our little secret. Okay? wink wink
Wow, Our Lakers beat the Spurs by 30 points on Friday. Now I know most of you Lakers boys and girls can't count that high, but trust Mr. Fatty, that's a whole lot of points. More than you have fingers, toes, and even private parts! Oh my, that is a lot!
Now for Mr. Fatty's word of the day.
"No more weenie shots!"
Grand Pa PJ says our big brother Pau is way too soft, and he shoots too many "weenie shots". Hopefully your girlfriends don't use that word to describe you. That would be sad!
Can you say, "No more weenie shots"?!
Good for you Lakers boys and girls!
Now everybody, say it real loud in Spanish, so Mr. Pau can comprende.
"Weenie shots, no mas!"
Very good! I think he heard that!
"Its a beautiful day in Mr. Fatty's and the Lakers Neighborhood, will you be, won't you be my neighbor!"
Mr. Fatty

Spur hero,
You know there are many decaffeinated brands that taste just as good as the real thing.
Getting all excited on our blog hours before tip off won't help your team, which, BTW, is such a class organization they wouldn't approve of your lack of class on display here.
The Spurs, who unlike you, don't talk trash, may very well win tonight, and maybe not, which is along the lines of what TIm D himself said... which was enough said.
Posted by: Vman | May 25, 2008 at 01:08 PM
Spur hero. It's not about your stars but you're only "on the court" proclamation is about your "three-headed monster" of Duncan, Parker and Ginobli. It's not about the celebrities in the stands but we're inundated with Eva Longoria every San Antonio broadcast.
"it's about the game. it's about teamwork. and it's about believing.
believing in our system. believing in our players. believing in each other."
You act as if this only applies to your team. The scary thing for you is that this holds true for the Lakers as well.
Like I said in an earlier post, the fact that the Lakers lost the series to PHX after being up 3-1 is actually a positive for the current team. The fact that the Spurs came back against New Orleans works just as much to the Lakers advantage as it does for San Antonio. Because of those two things, as well as a healthy respect for the Spurs in general, there is no way this Laker team let's up one iota. They expect San Antonio's best. They won't be caught off guard. They will push and pressure and execute like never before. Either San Antonio will have the answer or they won't.
Posted by: lakers_sth | May 25, 2008 at 01:15 PM
Game day. Present for the coming roll call.
We win tonight, the series is over.
Full effort, Lakers. Earn the respect of the champs and make the SA trolls eat their (extremely poorly selected) words.

Spur Hero
I see your parroting everything you hear on the good ole television. So basically you team work and team orientated basketball Spurs seems to play is the reason why your winners right? Uhmm..ok what about the Lakers and there Motley Crew of players and Personalities during the 3-peat years? Don't get caught up in what you hear..eventually the Spurs will deminish..and all the team work cohesion whatever the f@ck they play will be exploited bhy athleticism and pure title hunger..which your team doesn't display. The Spurs are trying to live off the reputation of being a team 1st team. Mr Stoic face Duncan..and Mr "Im French and I married a Hollywood Superstar" are not the quite people the media portrays them to be. As is the media and BSPN folks haven't made enough excuses for that aging team you call the Spurs. I can hear it now.."The spurs Manu Ginobili has a hurt ankle and pinky and he just can't seem to get his lift and movement right"..lol..yea..but I suppose those injuries wasn't stoppn him from drainin 3 after 3 on NO..but now since your playing a real team..and since he can't throw a pea in the ocean..it gotta be the injuries huh. Ok and by the by..tell your Spur idiot fans to stop crying about the Gasol trade..then turn around and boast about how soft he is!! Kinda suspect don't cha think there partner? If Lakers win tonigh..its a done deal..you know and I know it! Why would Mr Stoic face wana make a Champion (haha) trip all the way to LA just to get skull drug when he can just take the sweep and allow the media to create excuses for you. think about it.

The guess here is that the final two spots will come down to Odom, Boozer, Paul, and Williams, depending on need."

MAKING TEAMMATES BETTER…KOBE AND COMPANY
It is not coincidence or incidental that so many Lakers players are suddenly playing like, well, like champions, like Kobe Bryant. Last night’s game showcased a Lakers team that has absolutely embraced the MVP leadership and championship example of Kobe Bryant. To a man, this Lakers team has proudly adopted the ruthless work ethic, fiery competitive drive, and confident mental toughness that have made Kobe Bryant a 3-time champion.
Give the Lakers front office credit for surrounding Kobe with players with the character and determination to be inspired by and follow Kobe’s leadership by example. Without a doubt, it is the respect that these guys have for their teammates that anchors the love and camaraderie that has fueled the team’s rise back to the very pinnacle of NBA basketball. That was something sorely missing with players like Kwame, Smush, and Cook, who just didn’t get it that basketball was a profession and privilege and not just a free ride. That’s also why I chaff so much when somebody nostalgically suggests we bring Kwame back.
Watching the game last night, you could see Kobe in every other player’s performance, from Lamar’s incredible one-handed dunk off the lob to Sasha’s clutch jumpers to finish off the Lakers 9-0 run to end the 1st half to Farmar’s sensational soaring block on Udoka. Other Lakers making the same big plays Kobe makes. Other players playing like Kobe, playing like champions. Every game now one or two or more Lakers players make plays that only Kobe used to make. This team has truly become Kobe and Company.
These are the players we and Kobe have wanted. That’s why we love this team so much. It’s almost if the players actually can not only hear us on the blog but also respond to our prayers and requests.
Spurs go down 4-0. 6 games to the Lakers 15th NBA Championship.

KOBE AND THE CLONES…
“Sasha Vujacic was a healthy scratch for the first Spurs-Lakers game on Nov. 13 and averaged 18 minutes when he did play in the regular season. He logged 31 minutes in the past two games but still was the last Laker to leave the practice court Saturday.”
How many times have we read similar statements about Kobe Bryant’s teammates emulating the MVP by putting in the extra work and effort to become champions. Or Lamar practicing his free throws because he is planning on attacking the rim. Or Farmar staying late to shoot himself out of a shooting slump. Or Ariza practicing jump shot over jump shot to take advantage of his time out due to his injured foot.
This is why we love this Lakers team so much. They’re turning into Kobe Clones.

Easy on Spur hero, what do you expect him to say, the truth? (That the age finally caught up with the Spurs and the bench are not quite up to task).
Lakers' demon in the past is its inability to defend "pick n' roll." It all changed once we traded for Gasol. The Spurs used to kill the Lakers with 2 man "Pick n' roll" with Parker and Duncan. Shaq & Kwame hadn't figured how to defend against the play. Without the play (pick n' roll), Lakers forces the Spurs to play honest which so far not very good. Spurs' bench players are not consistent when they were inserted to the game so the starter can get some rest.
Kobe will be a force today. We will need at least 30 points from him today to steal game 3 from the Spurs. Spurs will play with intensity lack in game 1 &2 to keep the game close, but Lakers will prevail in the end by 5-8 points margin.
Anyone knows the spread on the game today? My guess is Spurs should be favor by 3 1/2 points.

Gasol must "man up" tonight. The Spurs will likely come out firing bullets, not the blanks that humbled them on Friday, and Pau must be aggressive on both ends of the floor.

We Will Win,
I am certain we will take at least one in SA. More than learning from the SA NO game, they remember what happened when Utah powered back. If we win tonight, SA is toast. This is for the Western Championship.
I am confident because, other than first halves, these games were both blowouts. Furthermore, they were not just flukes. The Lakers did not shoot the lights out on 3s. SA did not have "off shooting nights." Our D destroyed them. We can do that consistently whenever we chose to expend the effort. SA has shown no ability to return the favor.
Ignore the Trolls until after the game. They will not slink around at that point.

REMEMBER THE ALAMO…
Tonight’s game has some very interesting side stories. To begin with, the game will the Lakers first playoff visit to San Antonio since Derek Fisher’s 0.4 second buzzer beater in the 2004 Western Conference Finals. Notwithstanding the fact the Derek had stints with the Warriors and Jazz in between, it’s ironic and karmic that Derek be with the Lakers for their return to the Alamodome or whatever the Spurs home court is called, where the Lakers look to extend their 1-game road winning streak in San Antonio.
Phil Jackson, the ultimate manipulator and motivator, characterized Pau Gasol’s first half shot attempts as “weenie shots,” shots that guys put up there hoping they will fall rather than really shooting with confidence and rhythm. This was a perfect case of Phil totally understanding what was happening on the court with Pau, who was playing intimidated as opposed to confident. Anyone who has played the game has at some time or other put up a “weenie shot,” usually when playing against a superior opponent. Tonight’s game will give us some good insight into Pau as we see how he reacts to Phil’s criticism.
Jeff Miller of the OCRegister posted this dig at Ginobli: “How do you spell manure? Start with Manu.” Without Manu playing like Manu, the Spurs have NO chance to beat the Lakers, even in San Antonio. While I think Sasha has done an admirable job of harassing Ginobli, the problem is really that Manu is not Manu, whether due to injury or slump or whatever. If the Lakers can keep Manu out of the paint and not give him open 3-point shots, the Jazz will be unable to keep up with the Lakers offensive power. Sasha needs to continue to stick to Manu like white on rice and not let him get going.
As defending champions, the Spurs will come out with the drive and energy tonight, desperate to avoid falling into that 3-0 hole from which no NBA team has ever emerged. Look for their role players to do a better job, for Parker to attack the paint like he goes after Eva, and for Duncan to have a big game. The Spurs will be looking to repeat their great comeback against the New Orleans Hornets. Unfortunately, the Lakers are not the Hornets and Kobe Bryant has already said that he will not let this team get complacent. And when the MVP speaks, this Lakers team listens.
In addition to their 1-game win streak in the Alamodome, the Lakers also have a 1-game road playoff win streak thanks to their closing out of the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. The Lakers showed consistent improvement each road game against the Jazz, coming close in the first game, losing in overtime in the second game, and winning going away in the third game. Tonight, I look for them to start out by taking the lead early and holding a steady lead throughout the game, winning by a few points at the end to go up 3-0.
I would like to see Phil give Trevor a shot a guarding Ginobli some time during the game.
Go, Lakers. Just 6 wins to go for the Lakers 15th NBA Championship.

If Manu doesn't have a monster game, the Lakers roll.
GO LAKERS!!!

GAME ON!
Just got home from church and I am locked, loaded and READY TO PRAY!
But before I go, I want to encourage all of you to incorporate the power of Prayer in your own lives. We stand together united for our Purple & Gold and we have believed through our prayers that God (the real One - not the impostor who mocks our prayers daily on The Blog) will bless our Lakers. And He has done so.
The lesson that we take in watching Him answer our prayers is that whatever we seek Him for and believe Him for in our personal lives - as long as we have a united and committed crew to stand with us for whatever we're praying for - He will bless us. He will answer our prayers. If He can hear us about a basketball team, how much more can He hear us regarding our daily lives?
Nuff said...LET US PRAY!
DEAR LORD, we thank You once again. Time and time again You astound us. We simply asked for a win on Friday. You gave us much more than we could ask for or imagine. We asked for a victory. You gave us a DEFINING STATEMENT. We asked You for validation of our abilities. You gave us CONFIRMATION OF OUR GREATNESS. We stand amazed in awe of You, Lord!
With a win tonight, You will prove and confirm once and for all what brother Laker Tom, Edwin Gueco, Rick Friedman & Mamba (Larry) 24 have all declared - THIS IS OUR TIME, OUR MOMENT, OUR SEASON! Our simple prayer: MAKE IT SO. Don't just let tonight's win be just another simple win. We don't ask for 30 point margins or 20 point comebacks. We simply ask that the GREATNESS that has surrounded the Los Angeles Lakers Basketball Club throughout the decades envelops and swallows up the San Antonio Spurs and their fans. When the Spurs leave the court at the end of the 4th Quarter, may they KNOW once and for all that this is OUR DESTINY - that there is nothing they can do to stop this time and this season in our lives.
You have given Kobe the freedom to trust in his teammates. Tonight, we pray that this game be about him. Let him show just why he is the 2007-08 NBA MVP. Confuse the defense. May Pop stand in bewilderment as he searches for a way to stop #24. Use this game to show the world why Kobe Bryant is the best player in the NBA.
We continue to pray for that flame to take hold in the belly of Pau Gasol. We've said it before and we'll say it again: the violent take it by force. Let Pau TAKE HIS GAME. Neither the Spurs nor the refs are going to give him anything. Arguing is pointless and complaining is useless. Let him head out to war and BATTLE. May he TAKE EVERY REBOUND and WAR FOR EVERY POINT HE SCORES.
Continue to allow the greatness within LO to overtake his game. As good as he is as our 3rd option, we know that You are able to bring out more in his game. Do so tonight, Lord. Let his greatness flow up and down the court.
Use D-Fish as our anchor and stability, Lord. We know that he knows You because he cries out to You on behalf of his daughter. You have continued to heal little Tatum, Lord. We thank You and bless You. Bless D-Fish with the steadfastness and steady hand we need on the court. May his jumpers, slashes to the basket, and, most of all, those 3 pointers fall like rain from the Heavens, Lord.
Continue to bless The Bench Mob. May they sustain and build on the momentum they have. Bring forth Trevor Ariza tonight to be the defensive powerhouse that he is. May he confuse and distract the offense from their game plan. May he lunge for every steal and slash for every dunk & 3 point play. Continue to bless Sasha, Jordan, Ronny, Luke, Mbenga and Vlad Rad. Let them play with discipline and character tonight.
Continue to give Phil & the coaching staff insight and wisdom on how to steer us to tonight's victory.
Continue to heal and recover Andrew Bynum.
Lord, please allow Chris Mihm some playing time. May his game surprise the Spurs crowd. Let him play on a higher level tonight.
We pray for the entire Spurs organization. May they honor the game with true sportsmanship and dignity. No cheap shots, flagrant fouls or stuff of that nature. They are the Champions. Let them play like it.
We know Your will shall be done and we thank You in advance for answered prayer. Bring forth our greatness. Let us shine even in the enemy's camp. Give us the strength to reclaim our rightful place, Lord. Make tonight's win another statement. Our time. Our season. Our destiny!
We praise You for Who You are and for all You do to bless Us and our Los Angeles Lakers - AMEN!

After game 1, Sasha said." I used to guard Ginobli when i was 17, 18 years old in Europe, at that time i was unknown player and Ginobli was a star player already,i knew his moves". That's good experience for Sasha. Bruce Bowen gave Sasha an elbow, Bowen made a big mistake, Sasha played better after he got hit. Mitch said few weeks ago on radio, he knew Utah bench player were more productive than Lakers. I am glad to see Ariza back, on the road, it's hard to make a shot, Luke, Famar, Sasha don't have ability to leap high, dunk a ball, if they won't shoot the ball well, Lakers in trouble, Ariza is quicker, can dunk a ball. Phil only allows Vlad to play 20 min, so i only hope Vlad can score 10 points . Next round, Lakers won't have home field avantage, but after Utah and San Antonio, i believe Lakers have enough experience on the road to win in Boston or Detroit. Go Lakers !
