Anyone want to hang on the Riverwalk?

May 19, 2008 |  8:20 pm

San Antonio finally got their road win against New Orleans in the Western Conference semifinals, and fair to say it came at a pretty good time. Game 7, 91-82.  As it probably should be, the road to the Finals, and hopefully a parade, still goes through the champs.

Plenty more to come tomorrow.

"We've been here for years."

Right. And success is new to Lakers fans. Is not as though we have had at least four distinct eras of domination (and counting) or anything.

Kudos on the recent and intermittent success of your little backwater team. That's real cute. But do you really think any of your slow and steady craftsman types could have risen to the challenge of winning for the likes of the Lakers, Celtics, Sixers, Knicks, Bulls or Pistons?

Playing for the likes of the Spurs, Jazz, Kings, Heat, Hornets, Grizzlies, Wolves, Magic, Bobcats or Raptors is just different. And by different, I mean lame. If I have to explain why to you, I can only suggest you the take the express train to ClueTown.

Let me channel my inner Hollinger:

You cannot look at straight points scored or allowed when comparing the Lakers and Spurs b/c, in the post-season the Lakers have averaged 97 possessions per game while the Spurs have average 91.

If you equalize the number of possessions at 100, then the Lakers have scored 116 and allowed 109 while the Spurs have scored 108 and allowed 107. So, the Lakers have been more efficient offensively and they've been slightly less efficient defensively.

Frankly, what that shows is, it doesn't matter if the Spurs slow it down - the Lakers are still offensively more efficient no matter how many possessions you give them. And the teams are about equally efficient defensively.

I hope we aren't counting on "old and tired". The spurs are professionals if anything. But they are also buggers, like five Sasha's. I think we have energy on our side but we need to play REALLY SMART.

And I bet desperate Longoria will be hosting her own "team dinner" tonight at her restaurant Beso just to get the press. Can we get any crashers there?

GO LAKERS!

While I do believe the Lakers will win this series in 6, I feel too much is being made of the whole "aged and tired" mantra. I do not feel that age and fatigue will play as big a role in this series as everyone else on this blog. These are professionals. These are the defending champions. They know how to grit it out, pace themselves and are more than capable of winning. The Spurs won't be "too tired to compete". The Lakers will have a very tough series ahead of them. Luckily, we have Kobe, and he will be in full Mamba mode for this series. Prepare to be amazed, as Kobe will take it to whole 'nother level!

The Lakers got together again to view a playoff game, this time watching the Spurs finish off New Orleans.

At the restaurant, Bryant gave each of his teammates a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch as thanks for helping him win the most valuable player award.

However, he did forget one person...ME...He must not know how many late nights I had to keep to help them win those 57 games as their prayer warrior...

Wow, these SA trolls are on top of things, already spewing their crap about being the champs and whatnot. Word to the not so wise SA troll: move over because a new champ is coming. Get that weak ish outta here!

-bozz-

Here are the ages of the Spurs role players:

Horry - 38
Thomas - 36
Finley - 35
Barry - 37

SA won games before because of the slowness of the triangle under the Kwame era but not this year. The ball moves at the blink of an eye, it takes a matrix to stop the pick and roll from Kobe to Pau, Pau to Vlad and Vlad to LO. Just moved that ball and the old men will get dizzy. Except for Barry who has been cut and rehired, all of the other three players are on their last year contract. This game could be their last year wearing the Spurs or NBA uniform. Definitely, Horry belonged to the ages, he will be remembered not as a SA thug but a moneyed player of Rockets and Lakers.

Lakers should send them all to retirement after the Western Conference.

Lakers vs. Spurs:
Bob Horry "When Push comes to shove"

There is one thing about Bob Horry we all know: He knows how to win a big ball game. Whether it be by hitting a game winner or changing the course of a series in his favor by making a dirty foul, he's the go to guy. I remember when he was a Laker, I didn't see him as a dirty player. He was just known for hitting clutch 3 point baskets going back to his days in Houston. Well, here we go again: The LA Lakers Vs. The defending Champion San Antonio Spurs. Wow. I can't believe this is where we are. Lets forget for a second about the way the year started for the lakers and where they are now and lets focus on the fact that the Spurs found a way to make it to the Western conference finals despite being blown out and and beaten badly by both teams it played in the playoffs this year. Wow... I was almost sure they would be eliminated by now. But those Spurs are tough man. They are scrappy, and with a guy like Bob Horry on your team, you have a weapon that few teams have. I don't much appreciate that weapon any more. Gone are the days when I admired Horry for his seven Championship rings and his uncanny ability to hit the big shot when it mattered most. Welcome now the era of Bob Horry the Jerk. This guy is really looking like an a-hole to me at this point. I know most of you have seen the highlights of his most recent hard foul against David West of the Charlotte Hornets: Its been replayed over and over again but I can't watch it without wondering how the league can overlook that kind of dirty play and not take action against him. Last year was even worse. Horry takes out Steve Nash in one of the most dirty plays I've ever seen and because the Phoenix bench jumps in the protect their guy they lost their top guys for a crucial game seven. David Stern penalizes both teams instead of seeing more clearly that that was a premeditated attack by Robert Horry that did exactly what he planned for it to do: Set the Spurs up to win the series and ultimately the championship. What a joke. The rules are the rules but sometimes a situation needs to be looked at as a singular event that has to be handled in as special way. The league and David Stern have no problem handing down stiff penalties and consequences to players, coaches and refs who violate it's rules but when the rule book helps out one team while destroying another (see Mike D'Antoni's subsequent firing) I think things need to be more thought out. I respect the Spurs very much and I am very scared of the prospect of them facing the Lakers this year. But on the other hand, if the Lakers are really the best then they should beat the Spurs... that is if Robert Horry doesn't find a way to take a cheap shot at Bryant, Gasol or Odom and cripple the lakers chances with some ridiculously hard foul that should get him suspended indefinitely (but won't). I mean hey, you have to respect his rings but lets play basketball here, not ice hockey. When push comes to shove, I see the Lakers taking it in seven with Sasha Vujacic head butting Horry on his final last second 3 pointer that rims out... Getting both knocked out of the game: Sasha with the tech and Horry with a concussion... Go Lakers!

Actually we've been here for years.14>4. We taught you how to do a parade and we will show you again this year. Who you got to guard Lamar (the finals MVP)? NO ONE. Enjoy your last run in the playoffs because just like the Mavs and the Suns (oh yea and the Queens back in the day), the LAKERS are always #1. Be glad you actually won a championship. But too bad you guys couldn't repeat.

GO AWAY YOU TROLL

Lamar = Finals MVP

GO LAKERS

Cool! The series is on, the Trolls are here... this is how it should be.

Bring on San Antone and their Trolls!

Ariza the X-Factor?!?

News to all you ghey@ss Faker fans - Trevor Ariza sucked at UCLA, sucked with the NY Bricks, sucked for the Orlando Not-so-Magic, & he still sucks as a LA Faker.

Trolls are back. Good, I'm hungry.

This isn't going to be an easy series, but should be similar to UTAH, with their slow footedness leading to their demise. The greatest power forward in history will require some attention, but we need to single cover him, so the rest of the guys continue to play like they usually do. Like sh1t.

Kirilenko vs Bowen - Adv Kirilenko
Parker vs Williams - Adv Williams
Okur vs Duncan- Adv Duncan

Actually who cares about any of this. If we play good to great, we sweep. If we get complacent once in a while, this could go 5 or 6

Fatty,

"ghey@ss Faker fans"

Is that supposed to be a homophobic insult? Is that what you're really resorting to? Classy man, classy. I'd expect that out of a Utah fan, not SA, you proved me wrong. You're not worth my time. Punk.

-bozz-

With regards to PG position, F & F can handle the job of bringing the ball, now guarding the slippery Tony and Manu will be the job of Kobe and Ariza. As I said before, those easy lay ups of Tony and Manu will no longer be easy if you're being covered by an umbrella of hands from LO, Vlad and Pau. In the Nuggets series, AI and JR Smith could not penetrate this defense. The series that just concluded, the Jazz Williams and AK could not execute the kick and roll in the post because of the umbrella defense. They were able to get thru by rebounds, pushing and shoving. With the SA who will handle their rebounds Duncan 6'11, Oberto 6'10" and Thomas 6'9" they are experienced but not really that big.

PS. BTW, the blank poster was my post on...Lakers should send them all to retirement after the Western Conference posted at 9:33am

Lakers in 6!!

We hit the free throws and the boards...Lakers in 6!!

Vlad and Farmar will have a huge series... guaranteeded!!

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS... OF THE WORLD!!
(coming soon)

Why the Spurs should be scared of the Lakers:

The Spurs just went 7 games against a team with only 3 guys that were a nightly thread for double figures, and only 2 guys that were threats of 20+. While the Spurs could concentrate on the Hornets "Big 3" of Paul, West and Peja, they'll have 5 starters to contend with on the Lakers, 4 of which can go for 20, and 2 of whom could go for 30+ and one who can go for 50+, offensive potency that is unmatched by any other playoff team. With a bench that's also a threat to hang 30+ on you, even the Spurs lauded defense isn't a match for the firepower the Lakers bring to the table.

The Lakers have already shown they can win against physical, system-oriented defensive-minded teams, even in extremely hostile environments, but they also hold home court advantage which is just another feather in the cap that probably won't even be necessary.

The bottom line is the Lakers are too long, too athletic, and have the bench and the coaching staff to overcome any adversity the Spurs can conjure. Lakers in 5.

Hey BOCALakerGurl: Stop trippin. You should know that your gold watch is waiting for you OVER THERE. Don't get caught up in the lack of accolades here on Earth. Humility is the way, my sister!

Are you saying there is 0% chance of a sweep??????

My concerns --

1. Thuggery

Will Cheap Shot Bob go after Kobe's back?

2. Rehab

I hope that Jordy is not thrown under the bus, but that we try to rehab this young man. His hops and speed are worth it. We WILL need Jordan Farmar. Short-sighted to give up on him.

3. Battle for 2000 supremacy

This breaks the tie

Hello cello the Spurs fan, You state your case quite well.
Wed. night will soon be here and that will tell the tale.
Your team the Spurs, yes they may, have won a ring or two
But 14 - 4 = 10 more championships we have than you.
But still in all good luck to you, I understand your plight
It must be hell, your team is old and now face the twilight
But don't give up just hang in there it won't be long you'll see
I don't think these Lakers will win more than 7 titles in this dynasty

Charles,

"In François Mignet's words, "intoxicated with liberty and enthusiasm."

That will be the words of Eva Langoniza lol! after the WCF series.

I agree with my blogger brothers. The key to this series will be the forward positions. It is where the Lakers have matchup advantages over the Spurs. At Center and Backcourt, Gasol/Fisher/Sasha/Kobe is is a wash with the Duncan/Parker/Ginobili threesome. But Lakers have a huge mobility advantage in Odom at PF and a height advantage at SF.
We can count on Lamar to take advantage of his mismatch.
So the big question is how our inconsistent SFs - Vlad, Luke and now Ariza will respond.
If Vlad gets his offensive game going this series is a sweep.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is the Lakers beautiful game versus the Spurs ugly ball. I have a feeling the refs will be calling this series even, with us having a slight edge. We won't have to worry about the bets in this one.

Ariza the X-Factor?!?

Lakers vs. Spurs

Celtics vs. Pistons

This should be good.

All I know is that this Laker squad is in for the battle of their careers, take away Kobe and Fish. The Spurs will not give it to us. They showed what they are made of last night; heart, will, execution, and focus. We will have to match that and give something else to pull this off.

I'm not worried, but the Spurs have my utmost respect as champions.

We must take it, Kobe-style.

Go Lakers!

This is what the great big mistake of Texas has to offer? I can pose as a SA fan, but why would I? I'd be ashamed of myself. Trevor Ariza is going to own Tony Parker in this series, as is Kobe. The Spurs may be able to play defense against a Shaq, but the Lakers are better now than they were then, and the Spurs are older and slower. The Lakers are going to run the old farts into the ground just like at the beginning of the decade. Spurs fans will be hanging their heads in shame again as DFish uses his iron will to negate Tony Parker. The Spurs should be thankful that the Lakers broke up the first Championship team because if they hadn't there'd still only be one banner with a big asterisk on it hanging in the rafters.

Robert Horry could strike hard fouls against Nash or West but he won't lay his hands of Kobe and Fisher. Somehow, they belonged to a Cosa Nostra Dynasty at the start of Millennium, headed by the Big Diesel, if ever he'd clothesline Sasha or Vlad to the floor. Undoubtedly, Horry will hurt the Lakers on his perimeter jump shooting ala' Blazers playoffs and Kings as well but he has declined in ability by as much as 40%. In many games, he is seldom used, Father Time has caught up with him. So don't worry about Horry however, Rdlee was absolutely right on Bowen. He is the player born to cheat when the refs are out of sight. He will surely punish Kobe and watched his hand targetting the torn pinkie. This CSF titan is the modern Rodman with an innocent face. Bring in Turiaf or Mbenga to sweep all these thugs.

Hmmm...I wouldn't be talking smack about Ariza, especially with a name like that. All these Sperm fans....go violate God's 6th commandment and kill yourselves....boy I wish Jim Jones was still around to take some of you fools with him....

The Spurs are the reason why the NBA is fast becoming Soccer in America...that's something to be proud of, I guess....Either way you put it, the San Antonio Sperms have alot more to loose than us....the Lakers are going to be good for the next 4-6 years and probably come away with 3 or 4 of those Championships. As for the Sperms....this is your last Hoorah, you will be next year's Mavericks or even the Suns.

Aww, its just too bad that we have one of the two future dominant big men in the league for the next ten years (Bynum) which puts him at 30 years old...my, my if all goes well he will just be reaching his prime then. Not to mention the Hornets, San Antonio Sperms fans, by 2016 you all will be classically conditioned to sting of CP3's hornets year-in year-out....then again, I don't expect your kind to be educated enough to know the term classical conditioning.

To my Laker fans, you guys do realize what the Lakers have done is amazing...right? It was only four years ago the front office blew up the team, save Kobe and Puke (Okay, he's Luke sometimes). Four years later, we are knocking on the door and the old San Antonio Sperms are smelling the soils of their adult diaper...once a man, twice a child I tell ya'!

Do you guys realize that if, when we knock these Old Dirty Bastards off, and lets say we win the title...we will be known as the team of the decade...and we could cement that with a back-to-back (a bit far-fetched but still.) Think about it... we won the title in 00,01,02, went to the Finals in 04, took four years off, and could win it all again in 08, that would leave 09 and 10...thats six championships in ten years....that is a dynasty.

We stand on the threshold of a Dynasty, the likes of which has never been witnessed.

WWJWWD said

The Lakers TEAM is infinitely better than the Spurs, which is why the Lakers will win the series in 5 games.

Nice post! You know, you just might have me convinced we finish this one off in 5...........if we can steal the first one in SA, you just might have it exactly right! SA indeed has noone to stick with LO, and Pau will outplay Timmy..........he's starting to look old and a bit slow. Looking forward to running them down court, and if nothing opens up right away, looking for the spacing of the triangle and crisp passing leaving SA running around trying to catch up. This is going to be fun to watch!

8 TO 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure who just stole Fatty's SN

KBROS, can you get on that? Tell them to use a different SN.

To the REAL Fatty & Lakers_STH,

I really need to figure out this series as I'm in a playoff pool and I got way behind because I had picked the Hornets in 7 (which obviously didn't happen). I need to nail this Lakers series.

Here's the thing. Fatty, you missed that fact that Ginobli was out of the game the last time we played the Spurs. In fact, I don't think both teams have been healthy one time when they played each other.

Still, prior to this season, the Lakers have pretty much pwned San Antonio. We've always matched up well against them and I thought last year we'd have taken them to 6 or 7.

Other than 2003, the Lakers have completely dominated the Spurs in the post season. PJ's Lakers even swept the Spurs once.

Fatty, you gave the Lakers 0% chance to sweep. I certainly don't disagree, but I'm wondering why you say this?

The Spurs have never had an answer to Kobe Bryant. The Spurs offense has been known to go on vacation for long stretches of time, and I think the Lakers will take advantage of that.

Thanks to everyone for your analysis... I really need to help!

Fairweather Fatty:Dear Idiot imposter, At least post something intelligent. You are really making yourself
look stupid and under aged. I would say more, but there are laws against Child Molesting."

ROFLMAO!!!! HAHAHAHAHA Fatty leave those kids alone LOL!
you probably scared the lil fellas away. LOL!!!

Morning everyone,

Thanks to my friend thehammer for pointing this out a few years back: I hate the way the announcer in SA always says, "Spurs Ballllll!" so gleefully on every side-out.

This playoff season has been kinda nice for that reason. Lots of old animosities are being dredged up. I mean, do you guys remember when the Suns were nobody? It wasn't that long ago. Really, we have ruled the Pacific forever. In the Post-Magic era, it's really always been about thwarting these teams from the Southwest.

First it was Utah, in the mid to late '90s. Kobe's airballs, Elden Campbell, Stockton to Malone. They were the hump we couldn't quite get over and I hated them so much.

Then it was the Spurs. The last days of the Admiral (Anyone else remember when an aging Chick called him "The Commander"? CLASSIC!) and the rise of Timmy. A new team to hate above any other, even before the defection of Big Shot Rob and the additions of Parker-Longoria, Bruce Bowen and Ginobili.

So I guess what I'm saying is, this is a satisfying year because first we got Utah back and now we get to dominate SA (I like the Saint Anthony's smack by the way).

So, you folks from SA who suddenly showed up, I'd like to ask that you continue to post here after your team loses. I want to see you take it like men and admit you were wrong.

Like Fire32 -- who has been good enough to hang out and may even have become a Lakers fan in the process. His Suns have sunk back to that irrelevant place to which they rightfully belong but he gained a team with real tradition. I will have Mamba make a place for you Spurs fans on the Lakers Championship Bandwagon if you admit you were wrong and that your team blows once this is all over.

Yes, the Spurs are about to begin their descent as well. Because, really, until 1999, they were irrelevant too. The NBA aristocracy is being restored. Lakers in 5.

Are you saying there is 0% chance of a sweep??????

Posted by: pslakerfan | May 20, 2008 at 09:52 AM

I guess anything is possible.

A slight adjustment?

4-5 games: Lakers - 20%

Hillary beats Obama - 2%
Pig Miller becomes a Suns Fan - .0000000000001%
Toad hugs a Troll - .00000000000000000002
Faith says, "We need to score more, D is not the key" - .0000004
Charles says, "Its a bad morning and you can all go to He**!" .0001
And PS Lakerfan gives away his entire season tickets to Fatty for free. .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001

Actually me not choosing a series number is pretty cheezie, No?

To my Lakers Band of Brothers,

Thanks for covering my back
