Thursday Audio

April 18, 2008 | 12:17 pm

If you're looking for any more signs that the Lakers are hot heading into the playoffs, forget that they've won eight of nine.  How about this one?  During yesterday's day off, Pau Gasol not only passed his California driver's exam, but scored an impressive 35 of 36 on the written.  Damn fine work.  But it will take more than a deep understanding of this state's rules of the road to knock off the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs.  With that in mind, here is some audio from Thursday afternoon's pre-film session media powwow.  AK and I can't make it to practice today, but I'm willing to guarantee you there won't be much spoken that's wildly different than what was said on Thursday.

Fairweather,
"Coached by Phil Jackson, (played by Dr. Phil), the dysfunctional Lakers Team"

So, how's that working out for you, Kobe?

Marty,
"but how can an objective observer like a sports blogger pick the Lakers over the Celts?"

They can't. The Celtics should be the favorite at this point. With a healthy Bynum, who has had a chance to get back up to speed, I think the Lakers would be the favorites, but that isn't the case at this point.

To a whole bunch of you out there:

It's NOT about playing with pain, or playing when you are less than 100%.

It IS about not being stupid and coming back too soon when there is a reasonable chance of making the injury worse. ESPECIALLY when you are the future of the franchise.

Seriously dude, does every Kobe hater take grammar lessons from Allen Iverson. When you come here Kobe hating with the language skills of a reject from the small yellow buss, nobody pays you any attention. However I think you spelled spiderman correctly, so you can hang your hat on that one. Oh wait, Spiderman should be capitalized moron.....

Okay, Edwin Gueco. I guess you are not going to vote for McCain? (LOL)

Ex, it is not about having reasonable chance of making the injury worse or jeopardizing your career... it is about heart. Remember Willis Reed? He can barely walk WHEN he came out from the dug out and ushered the Knicks to Championships. It is about owing YOUR TEAM MATES something... it is about fighting for what you believe is yours TO TAKE... it is about taking the opportunity presented... IT IS ABOUT SEIZING THE MOMENT OF GLORY!

GO LAKERS!

Every NBA player at this time of the year are all pretty banged up... it is to the Lion-hearted that the battle is won.

Bynum coming back and playing even just for 5 minutes a game is not stupidity.

Some here anointed him as our next franchise payer, here is his chance to show he can be. If he wants to be remembered as one of the Greatest, I think he should come back and play at the latest 2nd round if not this first round.

we all know that Kobe through the years has played with all sorts of injuries... knee, ankle, hip... hamstring... you name it...he has played through all kind of pain... that's what you call Greatness... sissies does not belong in the circle of the GREATS...

I say to Andrew Bynum: Get you butt on the court!

Robyn,

There we agree....

Kobe is nto 100% on that torn pinkie but he's still playing.

Pau has bad back and recovering from ankle injury but he's playing

Fisher is 32 with all kinds of ailments on his body but he is still chasing PG at age 21.

Wow, Bynum can run around the pool. There used to be no pool in NBA. His presence alone cures all the pains of his teammates. Even this blog will turn upside down if they see Drew in uniform. Half of the battle is won by perception, the other half is all hardwork.

However, Robyn I'm sorry to disagree with your analogy, Bush I was correct for not going to Baghdad in order to maintain the balance of power between the Shiite and Sunnis... Bush II, what can we say, people's survey says it all....he should have just stayed as Texas governor.

I disagree with the use of Bynum at less than 100% or risk of using him early and risking injury.
The way the Lakers are built are for a Dynasty and multiple championships rather than winning one and losing dynasty.

As to Bush I agree with Edwin.

Hope we can go to political blog (maybe Kareem's as he supports Obama and could host posts pro and con) so we can have comments on all sides of the issues.

I agree with Ex on all this. We don't risk our franchise on one championship.

First I ask since I did not research but did Willsi Reed come back at the beginning of his career or at the end?
What happened after Knicks won the championship? Did Willis Reed end his career or factor in any other championships?
Did the Knicks go on to win multiple championshops?

I would bet you look up those questions you would think again about bringing AB back prematurely.

I don't think we need head cames to beat Denver.
