Things to do in Denver when you're not dead

April 26, 2008 | 10:53 am

Lamar_dunk Hopefully, the Lakers' list includes beating the Denver Nuggets in game 3 of their playoff series (2:30 pm PST, TNT), since they happen to be in town and all.  It would make sense, since Kobe's trying to order "championships" off his hotel room service menu, what with his stomach growling even more than when he shared the spotlight with Shaq.  To make the victory go down (as one analyst predicts), they'll have to be prepped for whatever tweaks George Karl- who's been at this coaching game a looooooong time- throws into the mix.  (Tweaks being, of course, one of the things to look for in today's game).  If Coby's pop was smart, some soothing Enya in the locker room will be part of whatever changes, because his squad is a rather tightly wound bunch.

Their vets, who've often been a huge part of the problem, need to start setting an example of coolness ASAP.  But in a weird way, if the Lakers can make quick business of the Nugs, they'll be doing Melo a favor.  The faster his summer vacation rolls around, the more time he gets to film his new reality TV gig.   And for the rare Nugget with a inch or two of unmarked skin, more time at the tat parlor.

Forum Blue and Gold has their Game 3 peview.

The Mavs' Josh Howard admitted to his offseason reefer enthusiasm.  Shockingly enough, Mark Cuban wasn't thrilled.  But the honesty is somewhat refreshing, if not necessarily well-timed.

Sam Vincent, we hardly knew ye.  Mike D'Antoni, could ye be next?

Good Game Day Laker Nation, AK/BK, Mr. and Mrs. America and all ships at sea,

With a song (as always) in my heart (or decomposing mind)...

IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A LAKER FAN...Ariza or not...Drew or not.

As we watch the other teams in both conferences pummel each other, further positioning themselves for the chance of being a trampled underfoot-note in Laker history...We're up 2-0 against the self-imploding Colo-loco Kool-Aid Kids, we've got a pretty decent Western Playoff road-map, incredibly focused coaches and players (injured or not), and besides our big guns (and slingers) we've got two secret allies on our side that the other teams don't...we've got justifiable hope and we've got time...hope...and time on our side. THAT'S HUGE!! They've got stats and delusional rationalizations, period. Er, well, okay, after last night's 'Sunsetting', I'll give that Coach Pop has apparently switched out the Spurs' Gator-juice with Geritol, producing timely but somewhat alarming 'fount-o-youth' results. Me thinks we're gonna need Socks.

Sooo...absorbed from the plethora of recent posts regarding health, conspiracy and return of The Beast...still channelling our very own, acerbic,poet-laureate native son, Mr. Randy Newman...here's my ultimate parodic take-away...five-fingered from his classic 1972 "Sail Away" album...a little monster-mashing of "Political Science".

No one likes us, I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our own league puts us down
Let's drop in Bynum and see what happens

We give them Kwame but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us, so let's surprise them
We'll bring back Andrew and pulverize them

New Orleans is sinking, San Antonio's too old
Houston's got it's problems and Seattle's just been sold
Those Clippers stole our good cities' name
Let's drop in Bynum, there'll be no one left to blame us

We'll save poor winless Miami
Don't wanna hurt Coach Riley-roo
We'll own us a Magic theme park in Orlando
Oops, guess we already do!

Well, boom goes Denver and boom the Jazz
Bring on Boston and we'll Dit-Da-Jow their-azz
And every city the hoops world round
Will just be another MVP chanting town
Oh, how peaceful it'll be...We'll set everybody free
You'll have tacos and valet parking, baby
There'll be courtside seats for me

They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop in Bynum now
Let's bring back Andrew now
(Why wait 'til next year?)
Let's bring back Andrew now!

THE SUN NEVER SETS ON THE LAKER EMPIRE!

REMEMBER PHOENIX AND THE ALAMO!

WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER!

TAKE NO PRISONERS!

GO LAKERS!

I kinda don't like the vague references to other articles. I'd like to see what others are saying and your opinion on that.

FC Barcelona to play Lakers in October. Ole'

My question. Will it be in Futbol or Basketball?

I know if you asked Kobe it would be Futbol.

Kobe is MVP in all languages. Ole!

Listen,

I'm am very busy. Plus, I do not follow sports. Please leave me alone.

-God

God, you are hilarious.

AK/BK when you say 'vets' did you mean veterinarian? To me this Nuggets team looks just like a pack of barking puppies. All bark and no bite. Hohumm. Hope the Lakers win tonight, so we can quiet them down.

Heb Stempel.

BRAVO, that was nice post and also your composition. Can u sing it on the You-Tube?

Keep on posting.

I have a friend who's getting married tonight so I'm going to miss the game. :(

Rick Friedman said my friend just needs to reschedule the wedding. Maybe he's got something there?

I'll give it a shot, but in case it doesn't work out, my heart is with the Lakers.

Let's wipe these guys out so that we have more rest until the next series.

Go Lake show!

AK/BK

Well whatever you do..be sure to stay away from the mountains..and from what I've heard has Broken many-a-Backs!!

Hahahaha

What to do in Denver?

Go to Grand Junction and follow the Colorado river with Coors on one hand and the other hand strumming a guitar singing John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High":

......."And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky mountain high

.....It's Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high
Rocky mountain high."......

That eagle is Kobe who will be raining fire at the Not-gets.

Heb Stempel,

Well done.

GO LAKERS!

Anonymous,
"Rick Friedman said my friend just needs to reschedule the wedding."

The night I got married the 49ers were playing the NY Giants in the playoffs. I brought a portable TV, and watched the game in the pastor's office, up to the last couple minutes. The 49ers had the game sewn up by that time. Don't know what I would have done if they had gone into overtime, though.

Herb,

Well done. Keep it up. PULVERIZE the Nuggets.

Tom

I just ran out again and yellled "laker domination"""
don't worry, socal laker friends, I have your midwest covered!!!!!
michiganlaker

Nice. I want more Lakers-Newman from Stempel.
