I just read Mark Cuban's latest crazy idea. I wish that guy would just go away. So annoying.
I'm cool with the idea of 20 being the minimum entrance level age for the NBA. I think it's better for the NBA and better for college basketball. Still, the idea of 22 is kind of ridiculous.

And while I'm posting, here's another opinion that may be controversial, but I believe it to my soul. LET SASHA GO! We don't need his Euro jack-up-3's-and-suck-at-defense skills. We have POTENT offensive players at the 2(!),3, 4, and 5 spots when everyone is healthy. What we need off the bench is DEFENSE.
Plus with Lamar moving to the 3 and Trevor the defensive stopper right behind him (not to mention Vlad and Luke), all we need out of a backup 2 guard is 5-10 minutes a game to spell Kobe. No way all those minutes with Sasha playing the 2 with Kobe at the 3 fits into our future plans. And Coby Karl by next season will be a fine 5-to-10 minute back up for #24. Hell, that boy shoots 3's better than Sasha already and more importantly knows when NOT to shoot them.
Plus when we slide Kobe to the 3 it makes the Spur's job much easier - they just put Bowen on him. If Lamar is at the 3 and Kobe at the 2, Genobli needs to switch and guard Lamar to put Bowen on Kobe - and that's a mismatch made in heaven.
So I say relegate Sacha to 5-10 minutes a game when Kobe is resting, then let his ass go this summer so he can get a nice deal and jack up 3's for Seattle or Miami or some other losing team. Defense wins titles. Unleash the Beast-Trevor-Mamba-DFish D-fense combo and we will WIN!

Hope Bynum's check up goes well. Like I said yesterday, Bynum's return will be a huge morale boost to the team giving us more energy and confidence. I just pray the 20 year old golden child can get it together and comes back in old form, I'm sure he will.
Anyways, I'm expecting a blow out tonight and anything else would get me a little worried. Lakers need a statement game on national tv for their sake and Kobe's sake. NO MVP NO PEACE.

Why doesn't Bshaw take Farmar under his wing and explain the importance of, demand, beat into him, whatever, just how important it is for someone to become a lock down point guard defender for the Lakers? He is one of the most gifted athletes on the team, a young still developing player...all he needs to do his develop a mind set that says I will work at being an all defensive team performer. Not only will it help the Lakers tremendously, but it's gotta help him when new contract time comes around.
I've been a Laker fan sinces the West/Chamberlain era, but if there's one criticism I will make, it has to be the current staff's obsession with the triangle being the end all as far as sucess of the the team. You can't tell me that Kwame Brown, with all of his flaws, could not have been the next Ben Wallace if someone had gotten in his ear and explained how valuable he would have been. Someone needs to step up and sell these young guys on the importance of the other side of the court.

Good morning Charles, MAMBA24, Toad, Jon K., and a hearty congrats to LAKER MAN 420!
With tonight's game, we should really try to focus on holding the clips to less than 40 points for the first half - Kaman's not playing, PG for the clips has been a revolving door (due to injuries and what-not), and the only rebounding threat that is present is Elton.
Thorton and Corey will be making the attempt to throw their athletic bodies towards the rim, and Brand will be able to muscle up a bit. If we can limit good looks for Cat, then I think it's possible. I don't believe that they have Richie Frahm to stretch out the defense with his 3-point shooting anymore.
I suggest, along with the occasional half court pressure, that we play a quarter-court 3-2 zone every now and then (especially when Brand is in) - that'll help to collapse when he gets the ball in the post.
Another big thing would be to remember to rotate rapidly to force the 3rd pass - as far as I can remember from watching clipper games this year, they usually swing the first pass, sometimes the second, and rarely the third. If all holds, and the third pass is made, then by the time the shot goes up, there should be less than 5 seconds on the shot clock. If we collapse, and send 3 to the glass (one outlet and a streaker, or 2 outlets), the transition game should be potent. Especially with Jordan and the Machine in the game - those guys can get up and down!
Tenacity, active hands, and a bit better hedging efforts by forwards/centers will be key. If at all possible, they should get to the hedge side before the guard is ready to execute; the delay will give enough time for the on-the-ball defender to funnel the offensive player away from the basket.
I'm looking forward to a strong defensive game tonight - we need to get those habits ready for the playoffs!

Yes, Lakers Nation. Today's the day to start the run toward glory. Close out the season strong and get back into true defensive form.
When this Lakers team plays good, quality, tenacious defense, it's a beautiful thing to watch. I'm glad that B. Shaw had some things to say to the guards... it's hard to watch them getting washed out on weak screens, ducking under when they should be fighting over the top. I'm incredibly happy to have tickets to tomorrow's game against the Hornets. Living up here on the beautiful central coast, it's hard to make it down to too many games, but I'm excited about tomorrow's important match-up.
As Phil often says, basketball is a game of energy and momentum. Anyone who plays ball knows that this is true. Momentum breeds momentum: the basket looks larger, the defense seems easier, and the lanes all seem so simple. Tonight's the night for the Lakers to build that momentum. Time to send the Clipper Ship sailing into the sunset. The Lakers are poised to swashbuckle the the crap out of them after that BShaw come to Jesus meeting.
I just hope we don't have to dismantle EB in the process, cause all things considered I do like the guy. Who knows, he opt's out this summer and the Lakers don't re-up Odom, we could end up with him you just never know. At 6 8 it is somewhat conceivable for him to slide into the SF position.
That said, LO is starting to put up better than Brand numbers as the 3rd option. We need to get Socks back to see how we function with Lamar as a SF himself.
Could be crazy.
So let's win out the season and be rolling for the first round so we can dominate whoever we draw and not look back!!!!

One of the handicaps we have to endure is that Kobe's defense is not 100%, he avoid using his right hand as much as possible because of that pinkie. So when his guard goes left, he just let it go. I think they should have a second defense when they pass Kobe. Another observation with Sasha and Farmar, they imitate Smush by trying to steal and pass their man, leaving him free to roam in the post, that's when Pau or LO leave their guards and it becomes an p & r play. You really don't have to steal so often, just stop them from penetrating or touch the ball that will distract him from what he's about to execute. Sasha was successful with that scheme and altered many plays. From time to time we need that "banging" that Odom did on Roy not intentionally but on the ball. That's where MBenga and Newble were hired for that purpose. It is a stern warning, if you want to fly high, then you're ready to dive straight to the floor endangering your limbs or possible your life as well. They will remember that rule when playing with the Lakers - "No Fly Act".

Is it just me? Don't you guys find this news about B. Shaw talking about defense strange?
We have been discussing about Laker Defense in this Blog for at least 6 weeks, and we are now learning that B Shaw is finally putting his foot down on the guards to play defense?
This is the clearest signal to date that Lakers coaching staff no longer want to play to lose. Seedings no longer matter because AB will be back for the 1st round!!!!

I actually have hope of closing it out now... call out the players for lackluster effort on defense.
They could have had this chat 75 games ago, but it's never too late to DO THE RIGHT THING.
Speaking of that, David Stern is just as bad as the Bennett group.
To lie to us all about the Sonics. It's deplorable what has happened in Seattle... it makes me want to vomit just knowing that David Stern has a part in this... he's like the grinch stealing christmas, except they're stealing basketball from a major US city.

Don't get me wrong I am a Laker fan, have always been since the Kareem and Magic era. I use to have a love him/hate him regarding Kobe Bryant. I understand why he acts the way he does sometime all for the good of the team because he wants to win so badly. I hope he doesn't get the MVP. I feel if he doesn't get it he will step it up in the playoffs which will lead the team to the finals.
