That the swelling was through the roof. That the ankle would require amputation and a transplant. But fear not, purple and gold bleeders. Gasol went through Thursday's practice like a dude ready to rock and roll and will be available for action during tonight's brouhaha against the Mavs (7:30 pm PST, ESPN). Also with plans to suit up? One Dirk Nowitzki, who made a rather speedy recovery from ankle (and knee) problems of his own. This could be a problem for the Lakers. Dallas' problems, however, have been more about Jason Kidd, to a large degree. He isn't playing badly, but his presence hasn't exactly translated to a run of wins. Certainly not in the fashion felt by the Lakers' upon Pau's arrival. Win or lose tonight, stat guru John Hollinger figures the Lakers to finish as a three seed, but doesn't rule out a higher outcome. But can they go all the way? That's heavily dependent on the successful reintegration of Gasol and Andrew Bynum into the mix.
Kobe came in a scant ten technicals too high to be the Pacific's nominee.

Can the reporters and media people of the world stop giving Shaq a pass for being such an arrogant jerk, just because he conjures a few chuckles every now and then? I'm officially sick and tired of this guy. In this morning's AZ Republic, the local columnist wrote a kushy piece about how great of a guy Shaq is and how much he means to the Suns now. What a joke. The Suns are no better than they were before the Marion trade. They haven't improved on the defensive end against good teams. Denver lit them up two nights in a row, and if it weren't for an amazing shooting night, they would've lost both games. Shaq will ruin a relationship on the Suns just like he's ruined relationships on every other team he has been on. No problem on any team has ever been Shaq's fault. It's always coaches and other players. I've never heard him say that something was his fault. What a jerk.

I'm not sure which of you started this blog topic..but I would like to comment on something you said! You said Dirk will be a problem for the Lakers..and though I may agree with that statement..but its alil odd being that everytime we played Dallas Dirk was present..as a matter of fact..we beat Dallas short handed last game..so shouldn't that statement read "Pau Gasol is playing and that may cause problems for the Mavs?"
Also..after watching BSPN (which was my 1st mistake) its funny to hear them say how the Lakers beat a shorthanded Blazer team! As if were not shorthanded. Take the Top 6 teams in the West and count how many starters that are missing:
1. NO: none
2. SA: none
3. LA: Bynum, Ariza
4. Jazz: None
5. Phx: none..uhh well maybe that one guy I can't remember his name..but he been injured the last 4yrs
6. Hou: Yao
We haven't had a full squad since Mid Jan and yet other than the fact that I feel as if were still playing top caliber basketball..were being crucified for losing to a short handed team..but top teams are not being extended the same crucifixion when we beat them. I can't wait till we get all our weapons back. The word around the league is teams would rather play us in the 1st round instead of the 2nd or West Finals..because they feel we will be beatable trying to incorporate Bynum and Pau together s by the 2nd round we should be clicking on all cylinders!

I think its telling to compare Shaq's tirade against his former teammates like Chris Quin to Kobe talking about Kwame after the Memphis game. On the Lakers.com postgame feed from that game, right at the end, Kobe is baited into talking some sort of smack about Kwame, but he takes the high road and doesn't throw him under the bus. Considering that Kwame is less effective than Quinn and basically took up 20 times the cap space for 2 years, Kobe had 50 times the reason to cap on Kwame. But he still sees no need to.
I don't understand what Shaq thinks he's doing. He's done this after every destination he's left. I wouldn't be surprised if he does it again to Phoenix in 2 years even if they win a championship.

-I hope we face the Suns in the WC Finals so Bynum will have ample time to regain his form and to deal with a rejuvenated Shaq.
-If we face the Suns in the first round, Bynum could be in trouble.
-The WC Finals against the Suns might be the highest rated (non-final) playoff series of all time.
-Vlade Divac owes the Lakers a favor for barely playing in those two years after signing a contract. The team should ask Divac to teach Gasol, Mihm and Mbenga how to effectively flop against Shaq. (Bynum does not need to flop).
-The three toughest teams for the Lakers are the Spurs, Suns and Hornets. If the Spurs and Hornets end up with the 2 and 3 seeds, and the Suns end up with a 6 seed, the Lakers will have to beat just ONE of these three teams to get to the finals. (That's assuming the Lakers get the #1 seed).
-I would be willing to trade a #1 pick, Gary Vitti, Joel Myers and Luke in exchange for the Suns' entire medical/training staff.

Good Morning Charles---Good Morning everyone....
It still is too early to start thnking play off match ups and brackets etc., but I am sitting here thinking about the potential opponents.....
I don't know if this is dependent on Bynum's return (and how effective he will be ) or not....
My gut says I think we will do well against Denver and Dallas ....and for some strange reason I have a good feeling about San Antonio...maybe that will change after the game at the end of the season....
Since we each had blow outs against each other New Orleans and Utah will be dog fights going to 7 games.....
I feel a little nervous about Houston, as we don't seem to match up too well against them....
I refuse to underestimate a motivated Shaq---the Suns seem to playing pretty well and are getting used to winning etc.....of all the teams in the play offs, this is the one team I don't want ot lose to (in the West anyway---there would be nothing worse than losing to the frickin' Celtics in the finals)
Golden State is a real wild card for me---with a healthy Bynum we should prevail---but it does seem that they may not make the play offs etc. ...
I still don't know whether I would rather see us go to the finals and lose to Boston, or not make it to the finals at all, if you know what I mean...
Of course there is the great hope that Bynum comes back, and is effective, and we all jell and play some amazing basketball and beat everybody, especially the Suns and the Celtics--it wouldn't get much better than that as they say....
Hoping for a solid game (and a victory) tonight--Lakers need to play focused, motivated, and aggressive on offense AND DEFENSE! No shirt Sherlock!

Thanks, but you'll have to excuse me if I'm a bit skeptical about who you really are. The reason I say this is b/c I feel there is a few laker fans here that post as trolls.
Anyways if you are who you say you are, then lets do this, it's about to get real fun with the playoffs so close.
BTW Fire1, this blog does have good people on it, who do know their Chit, keep that in mind.
Make no mistake about it though, you do have your hot heads here too, Jon. K who if you don't agree with his post will call you a moron, will want to hit you ( he's always threatening other bloggers esp when lakers are losing). You have Pig miller who has alot of hate inside of him and is always talking about bbqing for some reason. Oh Pig also ends his post with a OINK OINK or a SNORT SNORT which I find a little weird b/c after all this is an adult posting this stuff ( I think), so anyways these 2 along with a few others will do nothing but attack you even if you post a reasonable question, but for the most part the rest of them here are pretty cool people.

Uh oh! I hope that your failure to mention two games remaining on your schedule against the Sacramento Kings of Basketball (including your very last of the regular season) is merely an oversight. Although, I'm almost certain it isn't.
Granted, we'll have had a hard fought battle on Saturday evening before we face you on Sunday, and our youngsters will be carrying most of the load. Even so, slapping down fan bases who over rate their teams is something we've done all year, as you are already painfully aware..

Andrew Z, Wizo, Cbuck, Roger (the voice of reason) and all the others you mentioned... even have to admit that I miss the master of insanity (very clever how Sonny B worked him into his bit on the Jeannie/Princess thread).
