Knockout punch a-comin'?
The Lakers have a quartet of chances remaining to put the Nuggets out of their literal misery, the first of which presents itself this evening (7:30 pm PST TNT). The opportunity to put this baby to bed on their first try is a notion appealing to the visiting squad, although it's debatable whether the Nuggets themselves wouldn't prefer that even more. Anyway you slice it, the Pepsi Center representatives have lost their collective composure and regrouping feels like a long shot. Inspirational weight room decorations haven't done bupkis to drop temperatures back to "simmer." Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony has been held in serious check by a Vlad Radmanovic/Luke Walton-led group effort, although the forward's own emotions may be doing more to negate his scoring than any hand in the kisser.
When not watching his shots clang the rim, he's accusing teammates -- who deny it -- and coaches of quitting, a statement the Lakers have to treat with a grain of salt (even when plainly obvious as fact). Nugget Land frustrations have grown so palpable that Coby Karl has thought better of dishing the usual good natured teasing with his pops. Even a rook can understand the notion of "time and place." Safe to say, the elder Karl would kill for a squad oozing with the selflessness on display right now by the Lakers. At least he can take pride in knowing that a fellow Chapel Hill alum is now reaping the rewards of patience during this crew's construction.
Are The Big Bridge Burner and Ason on the verge of a vacation because they play for the inferior team or karma biting them in the buttocks? Whatever the reason for either squad's struggles, the latter could be part of Mark Cuban's blow up mission in Big D.

Good Morning, Laker Nation!
Nice choice of photo, K Brothers. Appropriate.
You should Photoshop Muhammad Ali's head and replace it with a fierce Kobe Bryant.
Game Day! No let up! Time to stomp on Denver's neck and put them out of their misery.
GO LAKERS!

Kobe's had a monster game.
Pau has had a monster game.
Luke has stepped up his play.
Fisher has played pretty well.
The bench mob has shined.
Sasha has provoked two players into attacking him.
This series is done. Close it out tonight and move on.

A report indicated that we will get Ariza back, maybe in the second round. That will be good since he can body up Kirelenko for the second round of the playoffs. He is a tad bit shorter but he will do a good job keeping this guy off the paint. GO Lakers!!!!
By the way good morning all.

Good morning, Charles, Mamba24, Faith, Edwin, and the rest of this epic Lakers Nation!
Game day!
The Nuggets will come out incredibly aggressive tonight. They're playing for pride. Also, there is a dangerous looseness that comes when you have nothing to lose. The Lakers will have to bring their A game tonight. Iverson might go off big, but if the Lakers can do a better job on the boards (seriously!), they should pull away by the middle of the third quarter and put this series to rest. Let AI go off, but stop everyone else. No layups. No alley-oop dunks. No problem.
Go Lake Show!
Posted by: The Outlaw | April 28, 2008 at 09:22 AM
GAME DAY!!!!!!!
I'm going to the game again and I can't wait to see all the Nugget fans leave Pepsi Center with their heads all low all depressed wondering what went wrong this series?
I would be really surprised if the Lakers lost this game. I think the Nuggets are going to come out really flat and while I don't see the Lakers coming out with game 7 intensity I think Kobe and Co. will make sure that the job gets done. This rest could be very important. I just hope that Houston can win one more game. Anyways...
GO LAKERS

A close out would be so great for this young team:

- rid themselves of last two years one and out
- give Pau some good mojo and
- allow Trevor some practice meaningful & careful practice time with the team....ok so I am stretching it a little

"Put Diawara on him, - and try to injured him. You’re thinking I’m insane but just look at how Spurs are capitalizing on Shaq’s poor freebies shooting. Diawara gets suspended for the rest of this series and Kobe gets injured!"

It feels like i'm in a dream!!!
lakers is the only team without a playoff loss.
I still cannot believe it. What a turn around!
But i pray that the veterans help Our squad to keep their feet on earth. I mean, they should continue the effort. Like it was just a warm up for them and the real hustle is yet to start. Tomorrow is the game 4, most of us are damn sure that we'll win easily, but i think it would measure the ratio of determination to carelessness. If they put the effort like it was a finals game, then i would be sure and satisfied that our team would make it to the finals. Champs? I'd feel it better to predict this when we reach to the finals! Every day is a good day now!
Go lakers go!!!

to sweep the Nuggets would be a bold statement, especially considering Boston won't even sweep the Hawks (I will grant that the Hawks played an amazing game Saturday night - so it may not be a due comparison).
we got the Pau Monster Game.... and The Kobe Machine Game.
I would very much like to see the LO7 Double-Decker Game tonight.

Reason # 16 why the bloggers know more about basketball than LA Times writers:
In his latest column: "It’s Quitting Time for the Nuggets," Bill Plaschke tries to take a contrarian perspective on the Nuggets downfall, which focuses on the shortfalls of the Nuggets as a reason for their overwhelming ineptitude. Mr. Plaschke supports his position with cute analogies, such as: "But you can't praise the ability of a lawn mower without denoting the length of the grass. And the Denver Nuggets are playing like dirt." I’m assuming the Lakers are the lawnmower, and the Nuggets are the aforementioned grass.
Like I said, cute. But pointless. The entire column is based on unsupported conjecture. At this point in the NBA season, you are what you are, and only history is a guide of what that is. History has established that the Nuggets are 50 game winners, have scored 9 points per game better than their playoff average, have had the same internal issues for two years between Melo and Karl, have two all-star caliber starters, have one of the best offenses in the league ... and on and on.
Therefore, making statements that are unsupported by the above history are pure guesswork. Speculation at the "cause and effect" relationship without isolating variables only leads to more questions, and not answers. Plaschke is paid to write opinions, but opinions that are devoid of historical perspective, lack analysis, and don’t get closer to those answers.
History tells us that the Nuggets are a very good offensive team that has won 50 games and the team has had internal problems for years. So why are they ripping apart now? The only variable Plaschke has not taken into account is the Lakers game plan and execution. That’s the only educated answer. Everything else is mere speculation.

Good morning Laker family around the Globe,
It's so inspiring to see the posts coming in from France, Spain, Brazil, and beyond. Laker Nation is more expansive than any empire in history!
I'm still holding onto my euphoria. Our team hasn't won anything, yet. The Spurs and the Celtics have already exhibited the folly of drinking from the cup too soon.
The Thuggets will be inspired by the play of the Suns and the Hawks. The Thuggets will come out swinging.
I'd like to see the Lakers go for the kill early. Not just to put _enver out of its misery. But also the let the Spurs and Celtics know that they're going down, too. After all, this is our time. Go Lakers!

Photo Comment:
In that fight (pictured) Cassius Clay (not yet Ali) is motioning to Sonny Liston to "get up and fight!" (After being knocked to the canvas by a quick right hand by Clay--- a punch not caught on film.)
I don't think the Lakers will be motioning to the Nuggets to get up and fight tonight. Although the punches applied by Kobe and partners will be visible to everyone.
In the end, like that night Howard Cossell called the Clay (Ali)-Liston fight, Mychal Thomspons will surely proclaim the the Lakers "the Greatest ! "
Cheers

I'm with you on that one. The Nuggets have lost their composure in every game so far and I've always said that they could injure someone badly especially during those periods of time. Let's hope the refs watch it carefully and don't allow it to get out of hand.
Our players can take some good hits. As history shows, we tend to injure our own players, so we shouldn't worry about them injuring us.

Good morning Mamba24, good morning Charles & the rest of this fabulous Laker Nation!
I do believe it's GAME DAY and SWEEP DAY all rolled into one - what a great time to be a Lakers fan!
Glad to see we've left the in-fighting behind & are welcoming more elders back into the fold. The peace & unity of Laker Nation must triumph if we are to send the positive vibes of the force to the boys in purple & gold so they can WIN OUT over the lowly Thugs of Enver. Then, and only then, can they carry the flags & banners of Lakerland forward, ever forward, defeating & conquering our enemies until finally - the hated Leprechauns will be our sights before their final destruction. ON TO VICTORY!!!!!!!!
Let's send the McMuggets home tonight early, so they can get a jump on their fishing plans. On second thought, it's more likely they need to make those appointments for the tattoo parlors - I hear they book up fast in Enver.
GO LAKERS!!
The BEAN for MVP and FINALS MVP or NO PEACE!

You will see Tim-4-Show at the game tonight
I was there on Saturday, but I was up the nose bleed. I did happen to see Hugo and family, but they didn't see me...
Tonight will be a little different. I will be seated in row AA behind the Lakers (first half) basket. I will wear a gold long sleeved shirt, no logos. I will be sitting about 6 seats over (same row) as Craig Sager, so if any blogger happens to be at the game tonight, you will know how to find me.
Does anyone have any GOOD ideas for a sign? Only good ideas will be considered.
Thank you in advance!
Posted by: Tim-4-Show | April 28, 2008 at 10:12 AM
Damn, HmrHed. You just laid down the TRUTH.
Plaschke changes his tune about three times each week. One day, the Lakers are falling apart. The next, he sees them on the road to victory. Some of the talking heads seem more like talking mouths... not relying on their logic or reason to see them through their columns.
We're lucky to have AK/BK. Journalism with integrity and consistency.
Thanks for sounding Plaschke on his empty rhetoric, HmrHed.

Long Time Laker Fan,
I've noticed that Sasha does a great job of pissing opposing players off. I wonder how much of that is the fact that he plays the opposition very close and how much of it is inspired by Sasha's lack of intimidating physical stature. It's easy to play the tough guy when you're pushing around a svelte Slovenian.
Anyhow, I hope Sasha keeps it up.

"But you can't praise the ability of a lawn mower without denoting the length of the grass"
Bill Plaschke
actually, and I'm no gardener, but the lenght of the grass has nothing to do with the lawnmower's performance. it's the width that matters: i can cut a 100 foot tall blade of grass with a pair of scissors, but I may have a problem cutting down a tree stump with a chainsaw.

Will anyone else be supremely disappointed if the Lakers fail to clinch today? I mean we've beaten them by at least 14 points in three straight games. Do the law of averages come into play? Or is there a point in the game when they just realize that....resistance is futile. Bwahahaha!
Posted by: mel | April 28, 2008 at 10:41 AM
When we win tonight many of us will naturally look towards the next round. I will starrt thinking about our second three-peat.
But lets take a moment to appreciate getting out of the first round. Remember that we hate the Suns because they've knocked us out in the first round the last two seasons. Before that, we only had ourselves to blame. Getting out of the first round is a milestone. In a sense, GO LAKERS has been fulfilled.
