Well, here you go. All the highlights from Kobe's big Wednesday, including the dimes (way to put in the dimes!). I'm always amazed at how quickly people put this stuff together.

That's great, except why is the Lamar dunk down the lane in there? Great play, but it wasn't an assist for Kobe.

With all the easy to use editing software these days, I expect people to start outsourcing their highlight reels to Bangalore, India fairly soon. Did I mention how much I love Youtube? Cool stuff.
It seems to me that the only people who failed to vote Kobe for MVP are the ones who either irrationally hate him or only watch the highlights and never the actual games. Last night was a perfect example of why I equate Kobe with MJ; in my memory, there are only a handful of players who have been capable of a performance like last night's, and KB24 is obviously one of them. I lived in Chicago during the 72 win season, and the stuff I see from Mamba is on MJs level during that era. My dad and I watched the game, and he commented that it's easy to take Kobe for granted. My response was, "Not me. I watch every game knowing that I have to cherish this period in Lakers history. Someday, when Kobe is gone, I'll look back wistfully at this era. As many games as I've watched, I still say 'Oh My God' at least once in any game that Kobe is playing."
My initial prediction was the Lakers in five, but I'm revising it to a sweep. AI's got the 100 yard stare, and the rest of the team is melting down emotionally. Poor George can only stand by and watch helplessly as his team turns into the NBA equivalent of an out of control toddler in a grocery store who was just told he can only have a box of Fruity Pebbles or Crunch Berries but not both.

Here are the significant stats after last night's game:
Kobe gets 10 dimes in 42 minutes on the floor while the entire team of the Noggets (no get dimes) made 12 - two more than Kobe - in 240 minutes on the floor (5 x 48).
Iverson picks up his 3rd T in two games. The rule for the playoffs is 6 T's before a suspension. I guess AI figures he only has two more games to play anyway!

Oh, and the greatest thing in comedy right now isn't 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' or 'How I Met Your Mother'. It's Skip Bayless on Espn2's First Take the day after a Laker victory; you can almost see the cogs in his head about to melt down as he tries to come up with yet another convoluted reason why Kobe isn't MVP, why Tim Duncan is, and how the Nuggets will find a way to win those four games he predicted prior to this series. It truly is 'Must See TV".

Kobe just OBLITERATED the Denver Nuggets!
He is UNSTOPPABLE!
You know you hate him 'coz "HE IS JUST...

Thanks Tully!

I found this very interesting (considering we have the most "selfish" player on the planet). He also happens to be averaging 40.5 ppg in the series.
Total assists in the 2 games so far for each team.
1. Lakers 66
2. Cavs 51
2. N.O. 51
4. Celtics 45
4. Toronto 45
6. Detroit 42
7. Utah 41
8. Dallas 40
8. Phoenix 40
8. Orlando 40
11. Wash. 32
11. S.A. 32
11. Denver 32
14. Houston 30
15. Philly 28
16. Atlanta 26
So let's recap, 40.5 ppg, and team has most assists in two games by a whopping 15 assist margin. Can you say MVP??????

YEAH YEAH YEAH GREAT VIDEO BUT.... don't let me be a stick in the mud here..this video is great but if the Laker's DO NOT win the championship then who cares if Kobe scores 100 points and razzles/dazzles us all.
WHAT DID THE WISE MAN SAY WHEN HE WAS TAKING A LEAK FACING THE SUN? ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD!!

Tully Moxness,
I noticed the same thing! Iverson and couple other Lakers had that 1000 yard stare before even tip-off. It was like, "I don't even want to be here. I hope we don't get embarrassed."
I almost wish I felt bad for them, but I don't.
GO LAKERS!

Great stuff!
I am one of the few here who has not gotten all charged up about Kobe for regular season MVP, only because it is a popularity contest more than a factual reflection of the player's value to his team. I expect Kobe wants a ring more than the season MVP trophy, but he's making one dayum good case already for Playoffs MVP!

Dear mamba 24,
Put me on the 5th Dynasty Begins Bandwagon
as Fond Forum Memories Historian.
I like all the outpouring of support for the Hated Upon Luke Walton. People question his basketball IQ, his physicallity, his jump shot, his rebounding, his family name, everything but his new dog Gus.
But now they see the error of their ways, oh yes, they see now. Like Keanu Reeves taking the Red Pill in the Matrix...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=te6qG4yn-Ps
...will he play like this all series? Who knows, he was our second most consistent player in the 2004 NBA Finals, behind Kobe, and played great last year until bad ankles (the only thing he inherited from his dad), but he's coming on at the right time. Hopefully, he can keep it rolling like a rock down a hill. Except, don't roll downhill, more like rolling on...like waves crashing on the beach...er, well, maybe like a sweet Phish Jam
http://youtube.com/watch?v=H-HAux8wUxg
Yeah...that's better (exhale) waaaay better.
Posted by: Jamie Sweet | April 24, 2008 at 01:16 PM
Mamba24 - please put me on the "Fourth Dynasty" bandwagon - you can decide on my job description, sir!
I have no doubt in my mind that this team is going to be THE nightmare match-up the rest of the league will have to contend with for years to come. I see many more banners flying high at Staples! I see many more MVP's going to our man Mamba! I even see co-MVP's with Bynum - how's that for vision?!! Ok....maybe I could tone it down a bit.....but hey! It's a great time to be a (rabid) Laker fan!!!!!!
I originally predicted Lakers in 5, and I think I'll stick with that, but I have to tell you - we could be smelling a sweep and MAN - IT SMELLS GOOD!!! It's been too long since we've experienced this much euphoria in LakerLand and I for one am drinking the Kool-Aid!!!!
GO LAKERS!

The questionable dynasty wouldn't be the Mikan Lakers, butthe West/Baylor/Chamerlain Lakers. They only won onechampionship, so it might be a stretch to call them a dynasty. It'd almost be like calling the Phoenix Suns a dynasty for thelast few. You've gotta get the rings (more than one of them)
to be a dynasty.
************************
NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A DYNASTY
There is no way that 1 championship equals a dynasty.
thats just homer talk and really pathetic.
Give props to the 33 game winning streak, but I remember at the end of that season we lost quite a few games and how disappointed I was personally that we didn't win at least 70 games. We blew what could have been considered the greatest season ever.
69-70 Lost to Knicks in Finals
70-71 Lost in Conference Finals
71-72 won Championship
72-73 Lost to Knicks in Finals
Stop the Homer talk, it makes us look foolish.

If we can't have AB17, hope we can at least get Trevor back for later in the 2nd round coming off the bench. That would be a great defensive add especially ag. UT.

I can't believe the following quote by D'Antoni:
"You know what? I understand it. I'm ready to jump out, too. I'm on the ledge with them, but I'm not going. I'm gong to crawl back in. We're going to play (Game 3 at US Airways Center) Friday, and we're going to bust them. That's our mindset. We still don't have any doubt we can win this series."
I really don't get it. When was the last time you heard PJ or Pop come out with something like that? Do the Spurs need extra motivation? I just don't get it. And apparently D'Antoni does not get it either.

I guess the 60's-early 70's Lakers were a dynasty, if you consider the 80s-90s Atlanta Braves a dynasty. One title and a bunch of deep runs in the playoffs is not my definition of dynasty, though. Maybe you should check with Joan Collins to get her opinon.
BTW, 33 games means nothing when it comes to discussions of a "dynasty." It is legal to use it in the context of a "greatest season" or "greatest team for a single season" discussion.
Posted by: exhelodrvr | April 24, 2008 at 03:00 PM
-BRAVO KOBE! ...and he is just getting started folks. He will prove in these playoffs that a Kobe with REAL options around him is the most lethal force the league has ever seen. The GMs, players and coaches have known this for years. Slowly but surely the media and their Kobe-hating clones will have to face and accept it. It's time we stop nit-picking on Kobe's game and just appreciate and savor the abilities of this amazingly special player.
-Where are the Kobe-hating sheep today? I guess since Kobe's performance was nearly perfect, the haters are hiding in the shadows, stalking his every move, just waiting to pounce on him the second his shot is off, or if he makes a mistake, or IF the Lakers lose. It's time to stop the hate and realize what is happening right in front of our eyes - the redemption of Kobe Bryant as he leads us into the next Laker Dynasty. Let's just sit back and enjoy ride folks.
-I will not apologize for dissing Luke the past few years, because aside from the two months at the start of last season, Luke has been consistently awful for the past 5 years. BUT, if Luke can continue to play at this level (or even close to this level) throughout the playoffs, he will have earned his salary, and I will never say LUKE SUCKS again, I promise. Keep it up Luke!
-Did anyone else notice that George Karl was holding back tears when his son entered the game? It was a very touching moment. If George wants to see Coby play more often, he should continue to have Najara defend Kobe on the perimeter.

OK . . . Let me catch my breath.
I just got back from the hotel where the Spurs are supposedly staying, and it's really a dump. I really hate the Ginobli clown, so I haven't gone yet today cause I was saving it to wipe with that bastards pillowcase. I got to the hotel and they wouldn't tell me what room that joker was in, I pleaded and pleaded, but no luck. So I thought about it and how maybe I could get the guy anyways.
I decided to take the newspaper from the lobby into the can with me and wipe with it. I left it in the hotel elevator and sprinted out. Do you guys think he'll find it?
I also tried to spit on Oberto as he was walking by, but I missed.

Posted by: Kobesbad | April 24, 2008 at 03:14 PM
coolhair,
Kobe's pinkie is really just hanging by the skin and muscle surrounding it. He has found a way to shoot without the aid of the pinkie.
I have enlarged some of the still shots of his shooting hand with the ball, and it confirmed my theory that he no longer uses his pinkie when shooting. However, dribbling a ball is a different matter, this explains why he has on many ocassions had the ball stolen from him. He is truly a courageous athlete and deserves the MVP award!
