You won't C-Webb on the court anymore

March 25, 2008 |  4:12 pm

Apparently, the vet's about to end his comeback bid with the Warriors and call it a career.  And a pretty good one at that.

For those fans clamoring for Mitch to bring 1/5 of the Fab Five into the fold (say that five times fast), be sure to send him a thank you note for dodging that anti-climactic bullet.

My name is Long Time Laker F, and I hate the Celtics.

I hate Red Auerbach and his stupid cigars. I hope Phil
eventually DOUBLES his number of coaching championships.

I've hated McHale from before he clotheslined Kurt Rambis
until after he gave Kevin Garnett to the Celtics for one good
player and a pile of horse droppings. Nowadays, they'd
have suspended McHale a week for a play like that. In
those days, it was just "a hard foul".

It's hard to hate slower-than-molasses, porn-mustache-wearing,
smack-talking Larry Bird, but I do. He's one of the few
Celtic players that I respect, but I hate his leprechaun-lovin
ass just the same.

We always used to call Robert Parrish "Lurch", as he
looks like the character by that name from the Adams
Family TV show. Hate him. Can't stand him.

I now hate Kevin Garnett for choosing the evil men in
green over the noble purple and gold. And of course,
hating Pierce and Allen goes without saying.

I even hate the Celtics commentator, Johnny Most, and
if I have to hear him whine "Havlicek stole the ball."
one more time on a replay, I'm going to hork every meal
I've eaten since 1965 when he originally made that call.
He's not worthy of shining Chick Hearn's shoes, and I
hate him.

But the Celtic I hated the most (and still hate) is Danny
Ainge. He was like the Sasha Vujacic of the Celtics teams
the Lakers faced in the finals - a pesky pain in the ass
who got under people's skin. Sasha even inherited "the
face" from Ainge. He always had a look on his face like
somebody just shot his dog. I hope that Sasha manages
to gain the level of prosperity (or notoriety) that Ainge did. And some day Boston and Phoenix fans will hate
Sasha.

In fact, I hate the Celtics so much that I hope the Lakers
make the NBA finals this year and the Celtics don't. After
poaching Garnett from where he should have gone (to the
Lakers), the Celtics should have 2 or 3 seasons of regular
season success, after which one of the "Boston three-party"
should have their injuries catch up to them and put the Celtics
back into the draft lottery for another 20 years.

All I want to hear about the Celtics in the finals this year
is when Kobe wistfully remarks that it could only have
been better if they had beaten the Celtics instead of the
Pistons after the Lakers win the finals. No. I take it back.
I don't want any mention of the Celtics to creep in like a
fart to spoil the sweetness of a Lakers championship.

I hate the Celtics.

Long Time,

"I don't have memories of sitting on the sofa cheering
West or Chamberlain as a child, or anything like that."

That was me on the couch occasionally but usually sitting in the kitchen with a beer listening to Chick during the 33 game winning streak.

I have seen a lot of championship Lakers teams evolve and I think this one is going to be the best.

1 generation, decade, year, month, or day. Just so you bleed purple and gold. Keep up the fine posts, LTLF. Go, Lakers.

Tom

LakerTom,

>>>I have seen a lot of championship Lakers teams evolve
>>>and I think this one is going to be the best.

It'd be hard to top the Showtime Lakers in my mind, but I
definitely agree that I can see the potential for the current
core of players to get to that level.

Go Lakers!

Long Time Laker,
How much do you hate the twel-waving M.L. Carr?

LLTL--
I won't copy the long rant about the GreenieWeenies, but I swear, some of those comments could have been taken from my thoughts. I don't go as far back as the string of championships Boston put up in the sixties. I started rooting for the Purple/Gold when West/Chamberlain/Goodridge/Baylor were Lakers in the early seventies.
I'm glad you did mention respect, because as much as I hate that team, I also had respect for some of the old players. Larry Nerd and DJ come to mind first. Hated them but respected them. Just never admitted that to my friends who were Celtic fans.
Johnny Most. What else is there to say except, I always used to say his voice was so gravely it sounded like he was talking out of his a$$, which, if you listened to his drivel as I had to (living in New England), it sure seemed it.
Nothing, save for a Laker championship, would make me any happier than to see that team return to the dregs of the league and post Miami-esque records for the next several decades.

Every one listed except for no name has a passion for the Lakers and to criticise that is insane.

They give their opinion and that does not mean they are full of themselves. Props for their passion whether you agree with them or not.

LTLF

Personally, I think if you took Sasha off this team at the
start of the season and gave his minutes to Critter or
Coby, then the Lakers have 5 to 7 more losses. Same
thing for Farmar. Don't underestimate the value of the
bench players to this squad.

[You had me until the last paragraph. I agreed with you until that]. The rest was excellent imo but not the last. I do agree that Sasha brings more to the table than he is credited for.
