Want to know what rehab looks like?

Lots of exercising, weights, anti-gravity running, and such. It's also good to know that even in his limited state, Andrew Bynum can keep members of the Lakers training staff off the low block.
(Thanks to Botsoy for the link.)
BK

Here's hoping to a joyous fourth quarter populated by "MmmTacos" Mbenga and "Guacamole" Coby Karl.

For your enjoyment LakerTom, I will now toot my own horn.
and I quote:
"Hey Mamba,
I think it's time for my first official bandwagon request. I'd like to start the "Andrew Bynum will be referred to as simply THE BEAST from now on" bandwagon. Maybe I'll get some hangers on. Maybe not. That's what I'm calling him from now on.
He is a Beast. I can't wait to get him back, and oh man . . . next season is really gonna be fun.
Pig"
He is. He is.
I can't take credit for the video, but it is incidentally titled "the making of A beast" not THE BEAST.
"You are THE ONE Andrew. You only need to believe it."
Posted by: "Pig" Miller | March 28, 2008 at 02:37 PM
LakerTom,
Mamba24 should definitely put "Making of the beast" at the top of the roll call. It's required viewing for all Lakers' fan.
Drew's had a lot of great moments since that day against the Heat was the greatest moment of his career thus far.
As for the Bruins versus the Tarheels, I've got to say that I definitely like Love a lot more than Hansbrough. But UNC has looked so dominant it's hard to pick against them. I'm definitely rooting for the Bruins since my Gators didn't make the tourney (though we're making a serious run at being the first two-time champ to follow that up with an NIT title. A dubious honor, I know).
I've liked the Bruins team each of the last two seasons and I commend their program for being able to reload despite losing Farmar and Afflalo in back to back seasons. I'm definitely pulling for you.

He is a strong kid and def only getting stronger....

Dwight Howard is now Superman. Since he laced that cape on at the dunk contest. no one can call him anything else.
Drew is THE BEAST.

I understand how hard it is... but my list is an ideal world kind of scenario even if Kobe doesn't do any of these things he will still retire top 5 ever but the bar was set so high by Jordan that i think this is the only way for him to be called the best ever by the media
The title that Kobe does have already is the most exciting basketball player ever to watch. People might think that Jordan is better but no one in their right mind will say that Jordans game was as artistic and fun to look at
Posted by: shneurson | March 28, 2008 at 02:51 PM
shneurson,
“Kobe is propably thinking i can retire in 7 years with more titles tnan anybody not named bill russel”
Actually 7 more titles in 7 years would tie the Los Angeles Lakers with the Celtics for 16 titles and put them ahead counting the Minneapolis Lakers 5 titles for a total of 21.
Individually, 7 more rings would give Kobe 10 total, leaving him tied for second place with Sam Jones.
In any event, 7 titles in a row would cement Kobe as the greatest player ever and this Los Angeles Lakers team as the greatest team ever.
A little GHF, even for me, but totally enjoyable to imagine, especially if you were lucky enough like me to see all 9 previous Lakers championships.
Good post and I will bet Kobe knows all of the following numbers by heart:
TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
-------------------
Boston Celtics 16
Los Angeles Lakers 9
Minneapolis Lakers 5
Chicago Bulls 6
San Antonio Spurs 4
Detroit Pistons 3
(From YahooAnswers)
PLAYER RINGS:
----------------
Bill Russell 11
Sam Jones 10
Tom Heinsohn 8
KC Jones 8
Satch Sanders 8
John Havlicek 8
Frank Ramsey 7
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 6
Bob Cousy 6
Michael Jordan 6
Scottie Pippen 6
Robert Horry 6

There are 3 things that Kobe needs to do
win more championships than Jordan
average double figure assists(maybe leading the league was a little to much to ask)
shoot 50% from the field those are the arguments that are not in Kobes favor now
I would love a defensive player of the year award also i actually think that if it where not for injuries that slowed him down a little this year he could of had the mvp and the defensive player of the year this year

I agree that 7 in a row will do it but i was hoping that he can win 4 in that period
also i think Jordan was more effiicient while Kobe is more explosive

Okay before anyone starts, I freely admit that I have too much free time today, or not really, but I am choosing to act as if I do. I just can't let this Mavs thing go just yet. Here are a couple of examples of "fans" here in Dallas...

xodus- every other player at any level expects a foul called when they are fouled. My point has been consistent for 3 years, Kobe is not showing to be a leader when things dont go his way. Thats why I respect Odom and Fisher more as leaders, they act more professional and mature in adversity. That doesnt mean Kobe is not a great player, but my take on his leadership.
To be fair, Lebron was acting the fool the other night yelling at his temamates during the 4th quarter of a loss to NO. After the game, however, he admitted he let his emotions get the best of him. Kobe on the other hand wont even talk about his technical situation.
The difference between kobe and other players as AK pointed out is Kobe expects a foul when he either isnt fouled or is just shooting ( trying to draw fouls)
and
how he goes about complaining on every call or non-call waving his hand and not getting back on defense ( frequency)
Rambis mentioned it yesterday on pms without naming names, that the lakers need to adjust to the ways the refs are calling the game and control what they can- like getting back on defense, rebounding. In short playing the game
Clearly the coaching staff cannot get it into Kobes head to keep his cool and just play. Too bad it could hurt his chances to win MVP, which I care less about, but also the Lakers team if he gets one more and that game, if a loss, results in the lakers not getting home court in the 1st round.

I'm sure Superman Shaq would find a way to insult Howard and then come off as "just joking" later on.
Posted by: "Pig" Miller | March 28, 2008 at 03:10 PM
The Beast is only half the story.
Andrew's a prodigy of KAJ and as such, strikes a more cerebral posture befitting Cap's tutelage. The Beast doesn't tell his story.
Howard's all brawn. Andrew's a zen balance of grace, intelligence and Charlie Parker soul.
Pointless, perhaps, since in the history of the blog there's yet to be a player nickname that's made it out of the virtual world. Andrew's hasn't happened yet and may not till he's "Cap".

That was a very encouraging workout video on Drew. He seems to be in pretty good shape and looks stronger and bigger(muscle mass). Just imagine the psychological boost the team will get once he returns because he's been out for so long. It's exciting to know that Pau and Andrew will be back on the floor real soon. Thanks KBros for the encouraging update.
Laker Tom,
The "Beast" is perfect for Andrew as long as no one puts "KL" in front of it, LOL. Have a great day. Go Lakers!!!

Pig,
How bad are the Lakers hated out there? Are there any other teams Phoenix dislikes?
Posted by: Charles | March 28, 2008 at 03:33 PM
VMan,
I like the use of Zen balance to describe Drew, but I;m not sure he has it yet. I think now, in his youth, THE BEAST fits him well, because he is around the hoop a lot, and uses his size to flush with regularity. With Kareem's help, Drew can grow to be more than just the brawn and fire he is right now. One day, we can hopefully see him get out the skyhook we are all so desperately waiting to see, and then he will become more. Then he will realize he is The One. He only has to believe it.
If THE BEAST fits, post it.

Andrew Bynum,
If by some crazy chance you read this board, or if any of your peeps read this board etc. I just want to say thank you.
Thank you Andrew for becoming so mature so quickly.
Thank you Andrew for responding well to Kobe's anger this summer.
Thank you for training so very hard to be the best.
Thank you Andrew for your fire...I worried last year, this year you've put to rest our doubts.
Thank you for work so very hard not just to play but to dominate.
Thank you Andrew for being a laker and for working so hard to get back to us.
Thank you Andrew for renewing the faith of the laker nation in one of our darkest and most worrisome hours.
I'm proud of you Andrew.
Proud.
And I miss you. Get back healthy, but get back soon.
Don't stop, don't ever stop. Greatness is within your reach. The laker nation is behind you.

If you go to ESPN's daily dime 3 columnists have Chris Paul over Kobe for the mvp now. 2 of them (Ford and Legler) don't have him in the top 2.
The Charlotte game was a disaster. Giving NOH a 2 game lead in the loss column could cost Kobe the mvp, to say nothing about how it effects our seeding or what happens if Kobe gets suspended.
If we come out flat again tonight, I'm going to seriously question whether we have the heart to get past the second round, maybe the first if our seeding sinks far enough.

Charles,
The Funs fans especially hate the Spurs. Mavs as of late also. They love to hate the Lakers most of all. The last three years were really tough being a Lakers fan here because people couldn't wait to blast them. Local talk radio guys lambasted the team for a while. We shut them up this year though ;o)
Funs fans are great, because they really like to make up cute little nicknames for the other teams. They call the Spurs the "Sterns" because they think the whole thing is a fix. I've also never heard so much complaining about officiating in my life. You'd really think this place is still only a city with 1 million people, like the market is still small. There are 7 million people in the Valley, and Phoenix is the fourth largest city in America, but they haven't figured out how to act like it yet.
I like the city, but man, I love to hate the Suns.

Lakers will be back in first place by Sunday night. All these analysts can flip flop all they like about who's best in the West and the MVP, but when the smoke clears, the truth will be forced from their reluctant and unwilling lips when the Lakers end up on top of the WC. Everyone continues to talk about the Hornets rise and rightfully so, but no team other than maybe Houston has had to deal with what we've had to deal with and still be at or near the top of the West. It seems like all these analysts wait until a team other than the Lakers are in the top spot before they start speaking about accolades in a bias manner. The Lakers will settle these arguments and questions on the court. Go Lakers!!!

Here we are again talking of 7 Championships when Lakers just recently lost to the measly GS & Bobcats. Win first against Kwame's team tonight. lol
Got to win the playoffs in the Western Conference first, before making it to NBA Championship.
Beat the most hated Celtics who are favored to win it all due to best record. Once we cross those barriers then we can declare the Champion for this year. I have got to enjoy first the parade at Figueroa before thinking the future struggles of Vlad, Sasha, Fisher, Turiaf, Farmar and Luke who could hardly keep up with the faster, younger, taller, stronger players that are coming to the league annually.
And to consider the other 3 more Championship for Kobe at this time, he has to be healthy and wise. There are issues of money contracts, issues of other players greed, owners adventures, a dynamic coach post PJ era, therefore, the additional 4 more rings for Kobe will depend on the cornucopia of fruitful events or the alignment of the stars.

Nemaia,
LOL. I never even thought of KLBeast, although he was truly a beast. Much nicer place without him. The Beast nickname is great because of all of the different connections that can be made, e.g. feed the beast, uncage the beast, beauty and the beast, etc.
Mostly though, the Beast captures the beautiful raw power and coordination that Andrew unleashes above the rim. Really, all the Lakers guards have to do is throw the ball up whenever they see Drew in position. He goes after lobs and rebounds better than any player in the league. The way he was vacuuming up every rebound before he was hurt was very intimidating. Drew was grabbing the ball way above the rim and other players.
I just finished watching a compilation of Dwight Howard dunks that was pretty awesome but the moves that Howard made to get to the rim were nothing like the grace and coordination shown by Drew before his injury. While DH may be quicker, he does not have the all-around offensive game that Bynum has. Drew probably has the best hands AND footwork of any center in the NBA right now.
The most amazing story of the year may be how Kareem related how Drew suddenly understood exactly what he was trying to teach him about defensive spacing and angles so he could block shots without drawing fouls. The result? In a period of around 3 days, there were suddenly no more easy shots inside as Drew was rejecting everything.
Thanks, Nemaia. More AB17. Uncage the Beast! Go, Lakers. Let’s get win #50.

The Lake Show,
Interesting theory, but I dont think so! If Bynum could come back now he would..He doesn't need a mid-season conditioning program! lol
The sole purpose is to strengthen the knee before he comes back..By the looks of the video, Bynum will be back before the playoffs.. He looks ready now...
What I don't understand is if he can't run with full body weight, how is he able to do Squats with weights?
Doesnt Squats put way more pressure on the knee?

Laker Tom,
All I can say is wow!!! No writer in the world could've put it better than you just did. I just love the way AB snags everything even bad passes out of the air. You can tell that he was getting it on both ends of the floor before he got injured which shows that he's also an intelligent player that's willing to listen and learn. I remember that he stated in an interview earlier this season that he wanted to be a combination of Shaq and Tim Duncan which is downright scary. That's like the incredible Hulk with the mind of Professor X. I sure am happy that we didn't trade him for KG, JKidd or Jermaine O'Neal.
You should be a sportswriter for the LA Times because you got skills. Have a great night. Go Lakers!!!

Benjamin,
thanks for making some order on the blog as long as i had an acupuncture session.
most of the doctors practicing "western" medicine smile or are totally against "easter" medicine. because of that and because of the pharmaceutical industry's power especially in US, there r very few studies regarding interaction of herbs and western pills. and side effects can be sometimes fatal.
also the concept and the approach between the 2 ways of thinking and approach are totally opposite; while "eastern" is preventive and maintenance, wester is an after "fix". they will suggest surgery even if can be done with some hydrogen peroxide. insurance has to make some money in the process.
Bynum had a difficult injury, close to a surgery, so i'm sure that his rehabilitation requested a complex approach, especially that at his return he will be expected to be the "flying beast".
