T Watch, '08!
Kobe Bryant left the Lakers' training facility in El Segundo on Thursday before speaking with reporters about his ejection from Wednesday night's game (or anything else, for that matter). But that doesn't mean it's not on everyone's mind. 24 is one stink-eyed whistle away from his 16th T of the season, which would cost him a game per league rules. And while PJ said he didn't think there was any malice behind the little soccer kick that got Kobe tossed against the Bobcats, he acknowledged that another infraction "isn't the furthest thing from your imagination." Maybe the Lakers should just petition the league to let him sit one game now, so he can pick up another T later? Tonight's game against the Grizzlies (7:30 pm, FSN) is one in which the team ought to be able to get by without him, especially with Wednesday's loss fresh in everyone's mind. After all, Memphis is 5-30 on the road, and pretty crappy at home, too.
It was, though, supposed to be a big game for Pau Gasol, facing his old team and all. Unfortunately, his ankle will prevent him from playing Friday night. But the good news is that with a solid workout at practice on Thursday, Gasol believes there's a chance he could play Sunday. Maybe, maybe not, but assuming he responds well today to yesterday's work, it'll be reasonable to say he's coming around. Chris Mihm also practiced on Thursday, and could be very close to a return.
Gasol can still talk, though, and made it clear to the Memphis Commercial Appeal that he's happy to be in L.A.: "I feel appreciated. I always felt wanted and respected in Memphis. Some people appreciated the job I did. Not everybody. But I've been a pretty consistent player for my career and in tough situations. I know that, and I'm proud of that. Nobody is going to be able to take that away from me. But people here have been thrilled and excited since Day One. Obviously, that's nice. It feels good to be in this situation. It's fun."
Mark Cuban has been instructed to allow properly credentialed media into the Mavs locker room, and isn't happy about it.
Congratulations to Nene, who was back on the court last night in Denver, his first action since being diagnosed with and undergoing treatment for testicular cancer.
OJ Mayo may be declaring, but according to this report, Davon Jefferson says he'll stay at SC.

every Laker blogger must do their own personal Roll Call. They must
Call The Roll on their dedication to the team. They must Call The Roll
on their negative emotions and replace them with positive ones. They
must Call The Roll on any & every behavior which would be a detriment
to The FORCE & replace it with positive energy. On April 19TH the
day of Playoff Game 1, Roll Call will return. When the Roll is Called let
the Laker Nation come together as 1 SINGLE UNIFIED ENTITY,

AK,
Now that you're allowed to enter the Dallas locker room, what is in there that you want to know about the Mavericks? Can u stand the odor there right now emanating from pressure steamers from their butt heads. Avery J. is bugging every player and conducting conference in the showers. lol!

Mamba, I am present and accounted for and standing tall.
Charles, good morning.
AK/BK, congrats on the victory over Cuban. What an ass that guy continues to be!
Also, I am making my first request from you guys. Watching that WKU/UCLA game last night (what a contest! Is there any question Tyrone Brazelton is gonna be a long-time pro?) I was struck by how exactly opposite the timeout strategies are for Ben Howland and Phil Jackson.
As we know, Phil is loath to call a TO and prefers that the professional players on the court learn to deal with adversity themselves and find ways around it.
Howland, on the other hand, is the world's quickest on the TO trigger. He doesn't even wait for an opposing run but calls TOs after his own team's made baskets to set his D so a run, hopefully, can't even happen.
(Of course, we almost saw the worst case scenario for Ben's club that last night, where not only did WKU make a run, but UCLA was left in a situation where they almost gave up the lead, which would have left them in a position of having to come back without their starting PG or any timeouts).
Anyway, my question is this:
For Jordan Farmar, what has the transition been like to play at the college level for a coach who regulates the game so closely and then transition to a pro coach who gives him so much rope?
I wonder if some of his struggles last year are attributable to that transition and if his newfound comfort level this season has something to do with being more used to Phil's appoach (and, perhaps, subsequently more aware of his own capabilities in tough situations).
Thanks, guys, again for the honor the other day and for this awesome forum, which -- it may have been noted -- I love.

On the subject of Newble, I bet he is pissed he isn't playing..He came to the Lakers with the thinking he wouldnt get buried on the bench like he would've been had he resigned with Cleveland and yet he is indeed, buried on the bench..Down to what 5 days on a 10-day contract?? That blows..
Anyway, we need a win tonite any kinda way, everyone on Sportscenter to NBA TV is riding CP3's and Nawlins' bandwagon..Dayum, I cannot wait til these hurtin' mofos on our team can Play..this is getting crazy! Sorry, I am just losing my patience..I want to see what we can be with them all on the court, dat's all...

Once more unto the court, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our NBA dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of play blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of Magic J.;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest Lakers.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Abdul-Jabbars,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in Staples, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Tacos, Lakers, and Chick Hearn!'

Ira will get some run in the blowout games (of which tonight should be one), and if he plaays well he will get into the lineup more. It cracks me up how much second guessing of Phil goes on. He's been doing this fairly successfully for a while now people.
Remember meanwhile that he is practicing with the team and learning the triangle. It's not like when Pau got here - the center position is a bit easier to learn.

GO LAKERS!
Posted by: justanothermambafan | March 28, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Mamba24,
You are the king of motivational speeches! Hell yeah!
And you're right: the Lakers are going to lose some games, but we're doing a lot more winning than we have in the recent past. Let's not forget that. At the beginning of the season, no one was projecting us to be one of the top four seeds. After Bynum went down, the vultures began circling. And still we've hovered in or at the top of the Western Conference for week after week. I'm proud of how these Lakers have handled adversity, injury, naysayers and the like.
Now Kobe... it's time to bite your tongue. Every time a ref misses a blatant call, you need to dunk on the opponent. Get mad, but let it manifest in your game, not in your words.
I believe in this Lakers team.
Go Lake Show!

Man, I watched the clip four times because it was so good. I can't believe how high the ball was in Drew's hand right before he slammed it down. Drew's elbow was above the rim. Thanks for the link.
Mamba,
You need to add a drew dunk YouTube to the roll call every morning to wake us up. How can a Laker fan post a negative comment after watching Drew dunk?

OK so the 60 bandwagon got a flat and had to be sidelined...so what. It must have been a bad taco or something. Let's kick some Memphis @$$ and forget about it. We all know we are going to be in the playoffs, positioning would be great, but wherever we land, I'm pretty sure we are going to be fine. Do you not remember how well Bynum was playing? Gasol is back soon and so is Mihm. Ariza is on the horizon too and we will be at full strength right before the playoffs. What more can we ask for?
PSLAKERLOVER - SIMPLY PUT...YOU ROCK!!! The man gives away tickets to see the Lakers and asks for nothing in return. All I can offer is to Invite you and your family down for some playoff basketball at my place. We will be watching on my 144" projection tv in HD no less. Halftime can be spent in the pool or the hot tub if you prefer. If you drink too much, I have a spare room. If you smoke too much, the same applies. ;-)

Ira on 10 days contract, only like 5 days passed, do you guys honestly believe he would know where he suppose to be on the floor when they are getting into triangle sets? About him sitting on the bench, I'm damn sure he was aware what kind of ofense they are running, it's not like Lakers making big secret of it, and if his playing wing position of SF it's not something can be mastered in 10 days. Simplest posion is at 5 and I'm pretty sure Phil is not planning to use him as our Center #4 :)

Ok guys, it is time to call Phil Jackson’s stubbornness and dictator like behavior into question. Here are my observations:
1- Phil wants the players to figure out the rotation on their own. heaven forbid that he should come down from his thrown and tell them where to stand on defense; noooo they are better off falling on each others' legs until they learn! he has lost so far gasol, Bynum, ariza and mihm in the same exact way; falling on your teammate leg. This is not acceptable from phil. he should get over himself and his outdated style of play.
2- he wants to make sure they can play well in Kobe’s absence. Fine put Kobe on the bench and let them try to figure it out. noooo, he wants to keep Kobe on the court yet instruct him to sit near the post and do nothing waiting for the other 4 to figure it out on their own. first, it is too late in the season for that and second it is frustrating the life out of Kobe. as competitive as he is, Kobe finds himself choking trying to comply with his coach. Excuse me but this is bs. I was on hand when he got tossed out for the first time against Seattle last month. I was able to see the body language. Kobe is frustrated about Phil’s crazy game plan and it is killing him.
PHIL CASTRO, get over yourself and give Kobe some leeway or he is going to get into trouble before the playoffs and I don't mean more technicals. I mean risk of injury increases with frustration as we have already seen.

This is in response to Pau's interview: Pau is a man with enormous talent without the enormous ego. He was a quiet hero albeit fighting a losing battle with the grizzlies. He said he feels priviledged joining the greatest team in the NBA, the LA Lakers, and i belileve the LA Lakers feel just as priviledged having him as part of the team. He was a little displeased with where the grizzlies were heading and yet when he was informed he's being traded to the Lakers, he felt rejected and abadoned. The Lakers aren't only getting a highly intelligent man in Pau, they're also getting a man who's totally committed and loyal to the bone. Here's to the Lakers and Pau.

Greg Oden is as dumb as a box of hammers...
From msn.foxsports.com:
"Injured center Greg Oden was reprimanded by the Portland Trail Blazers for playing in a pickup
game at a neighborhood gym."
I'd just like to take this moment to say...
DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

don't understand why those two big guys arn't healing as fast as kobe's injuries. and why there arn't any sense of urgencies on jackson's part.
let's get those guys in and cut the nonsense of "they aren't ready to play" that's B.S.
play those big guys!
