All quiet on the Southwestern front

Just got a text from BK. He may have a formal practice report coming, but as far as the item everyone's most wondering about, nothing new on Pau Gasol as of yet. More to come as it develops, but wanted to keep everyone in the loop (unchanged a loop as it may be).
As you were (likely nervous, I'm guessing).
AK

i read on espn.com that gasol's gonna miss the rest of the road trip, so 3 games at houston, dallas, and utah

Sigh.
The dreaded injury bug continues....

Good afternoon, Lakers Family.
AK/BK, any word on whether the Lakers are still pursuing Newble? That could be a key defensive acquisition.
The Lakers will be okay. They've been tested more than most teams this season. I think that some of us forget just how pivotal Bynum's role was in the beginning of the season, and the Lakers have stayed on top without him. When Socks comes back, this team will be dominating the boards.
Someone from the other thread posted that Pau has had foot injuries and implied that management should have seen this coming... that is totally ridiculous. Anyone who plays basketball knows that ankle injuries happen frequently, and they have nothing to do with foot issues. If you roll your ankle, you roll your ankle.
I think that the Lakers will surprise Houston tomorrow. And by surprise, I mean beat them badly.
Go Lakers!

Kory..just cause someone doenst agree with you stop with the rude comments......TO all Laker fans.....Stop complaining about the refs and injuries..it happens..Boston won without Garnett and Houston is winning without Yao..If Kobe is the greatest then there is nothing to worry about......

The injury really doens't look serious. I might be wrong, but from what I saw, it looks like he wasn't even jumping when he stepped of Radmanovic's foot. He didn't even come down hard on it or anything and then he just started limping a little bit, not holding it a lot as if he were in that much pain. Hopefully I'm right.

Well, at least it's going to be a historical first in the game versus Houston.
Two seven foot centers from the Congo going at it!!!!
Mbenga versus Mutombo!
Can't wait.

Wow, I hate to see Pau go down. I want you guys to be at full strength when the Suns take you down again this year.

We are going to beat Houston and Utah and go 2-2 on this killer road trip (without Gasol). That will steady the ship. This is not the end of the world folks. We will be fine. Odom, Vujacic, Radmonovic and Turiaf need to step up big time.

Disappointing...but, we can still finish with one of the top seeds and get healthy by playoff time. Although this road trip will leave us with a lot of catching up to do, I like our schedule after this.
So, if we assume that we may not get the first seed now (which, of course, we may although it is less likely), two things happen:
1. We don't get home court in the third round of the playoffs. Tough. San Antonio as the likely opponent looks bad, but, we just have to get healthy by then and play our butts off.
2. Kobe does not win MVP. Extremely disappointing, and really hurts his chances of ever winning it, although you never know...we could be genuinely great next year and he could win it for being the best player on the best team.
One can only hope that should he not win, he takes it very, very personally and doesn't actually not care, as some have stipulated.
I think he really doesn't care inasmuch as it relates to winning a championship (that is, not at all). But I do think that his ego is huge enough that he believes he should win it, and will get pissed off if he doesn't. At least I hope he gets pissed off...really, really pissed off.
Anyway...
Go Lakers!

this injury is disappointing for sure, but not the end of the world, yet. i think we'll survive it.
thanks AK/BK for keeping us "in the loop"!

No offense to anyone, but if all these guys could "step up" they wouldn't have been and continue to be bench players. The last thing in the world anyone needs to do is tell Lamar Odom to try to do more, he is so awful at dealing with pressure as it is.
Sorry, folks, but there just isn't anything good to say. Another devastating injury at the exact worst moment possible. Not even three minutes into the toughest road trip in 35 years and the biggest road trip since 2004. Unbelievable.
I think it's a copout to use the line, "Maybe it isn't meant to be", but I am struggling big time to think of something logical here.
What if Kobe opted for surgery, as management suggested? If he had, we would have the makings a potential NBA championship team on Injured Reserve (Kobe, Ariza, Mihm, Bynum & Gasol).
