Not that it matters anymore, but...
Upon further review, Stu Jackson believes the refs missed the call at the end of Monday's win in Golden State. From the Contra Costa Times (via TrueHoop):
With four seconds left in overtime, Delaney called an offensive foul on the Warriors' Monta Ellis, who collided with the Lakers' Derek Fisher and fell to the floor before the ball was in-bounded. Kobe Bryant, who was intentionally fouled on the ensuing Lakers possession, then knocked down two free throws in a 123-119 Los Angeles victory.
Many, especially Warriors fans, thought if there was a foul at all, it was committed by Fisher. Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president of basketball operations, agreed.
"We did review," Jackson said. "The call was incorrect. After looking at the play, the foul was on Fisher and not Ellis. It appeared that Fisher pulled Ellis down."
Jackson said the league informed the Warriors of its analysis. Delaney also was informed, though Jackson kept the discussions with the respected referee confidential.
Here's the highlight, for those of you interested in reliving history. Personally, I'd have swallowed my whistle (how do you call anything in that dog pile at that point in the game?). But the complaint heard , well, everywhere in the Golden State camp that Fish yanked Ellis down has been vindicated, though the victory is completely hollow at this point. In the end, every team has moments like this throughout a season, where they benefit/lose out on a call. In the end, though, it likely all evens out.
BK

What I don't get:
According to Stu Jackson, why was Fisher falling in the first place? Ellis steamrolled him and Fisher no doubt grabbed him on the way down.
Doesn't change the fact that Ellis fouled first, causing the pileup.

Yeah, ISH happens.....refs miss calls all the time...NEXT game please
Posted by: lakersrydeordie | March 28, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Tough Luck, Odom and Kobe were fouled with no calls throughout the game. I almost thought that Fish was stepped on and lost his balance then pulled Monta. whatever...game over. If there is a single person in the NBA who is nothing but class and hustle along with being a great role model it is Derek Fisher. Let it be.
Damn the Lakers need to get in Kobe and the rest of the teams head that getting T's are as bad as missing free throws. Kobe just plain hates to lose. His temper is out of control and most great athletes have this same focus. Always a notch above the others. I would have thought by now some of Phil would rub off on him.
The schedule is one of the most favorable in the NBA and I sure hope we can go on a tear with all the lackadaisical play and no-intensity D we have been showing early in games. The kill button needs to be get pushed early in the 1st quarter so we can learn to dominate and boost our confidence. The drawback to playing teams you should beat is the mental edge that can become overconfidence, and at this time of year there are no teams that cant play well enough to beat another on any given night - maybe not the Knicks.
Anyway, I sure hope we see the bench start to explode and get our starters some rest. It sure would be nice to win easy and not have to play the legs off Kobe, Lamar and Fish. Luke and Rad man should be playing for their jobs, so inconsistent and off at times, there is no excuse.
Of course, we might get a huge boost from Pau and Bynum but injuries again have weakened our top billing to win it all. The inside game both defensively and offensively need to tighten up.
Keep the Faith bloggers, this could be a great year with a little luck.

The NBA is a joke when it comes to officiating. Fish did what he was supposed to do by staying in front of his man. He certainly didn't commit the first foul on that play, and it was at best a no call. Not a foul on Derek.
Stu Jackson is a pompous _____ who makes bad calls left and right as it pertains to suspensions and any other reviewable violation. He's a jack___.
Go Lakers!

Man I must be a Laker Homer, cause I still don't see a foul on Fisher. Maybe a no call, but not on Fisher.....
Stay classy LA, stay classy.... What do I mean?.....No Kwame booing at Staples tonight, dude sucks, but he is gone and he doesn't need another reason to jump off the bridge......Simi, that means you too...=)

Where the heck did this come from? Now Stu Jackson decides to just make random statements about calls in games?
Well, since he's setting the precedent, I look forward to his explanation of lots of missed calls. How do I get a hold of Mr. Jackson?
And all this really proves?
Fish is a cagey clutch vet. Smush would've never gotten that call.
Posted by: J.W. Weatherman | March 28, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Blah blah blah. You win some you loose some. The game before at our home floor had some bad calls both ways.
With my homeristic vision; I believe Monta and Fish were in a physical tangle, Derek being the wily veteran took advantage of the momentum Ellis was forcing in running the play. Fish did his best for the call to go our way.
What are they going to do; remove the wily move of throwing the ball at someone's body for an out of bounds advantage?
Blazay blazay...
Posted by: Charles | March 28, 2008 at 11:14 AM
so this is the call that finally gets Stu Jackson off his a** to issue a statement? this one?!?!? a borderline no-call/could have gone either way call? it's really unbelievable how inconsistent the nba is. there are 10 calls a night that are worse than this one. i could have seen it going against Fish or against Ellis or nothing at all, and they officially correct this one? why? I mean the league reviews calls all the time and send refs tapes of ones they missed and it's never discussed. why this one? how about they review Kobe's Ts and rescind one of those?
Posted by: drewpaukobe | March 28, 2008 at 11:15 AM
how about Ellis pushing off the game before? gonna review that one Mr. Jackson? f-ing absurd.

And as a final thought,
This whole stupid thing only reinforces my opinion on the amount to which the NBA and it's officials suck major arse. It's one of the most painful sports to watch due to the large number of a) blown calls and b) referees who think the game is about them.
Time for a major overhaul. Hard to trust the outcome of ANY game the way the league is currently run.
Posted by: J.W. Weatherman | March 28, 2008 at 11:20 AM
Sorry BK I know you don't like bad calls against Laker opponents. But I guess your Warriors have to take this one :)
(The game gainst the Bobcats was full of awful calls but you know that happens)
Again sorry the Lakers had to win that game in Oakland BK I knmow you hurt every time that happens.

Good day Laker Nation!
My sickness is abating, so even though I don't feel well, I think I can still suit up against Memphis tonight if the team needs me!
I expect a big game from The Critter tonight to show how much we're going to miss him. And I expect an odd reaction from the crowd if Kwame plays tonight.
Finally, after our befuddling loss to the Bobcats [sounds like a girls softball team], I'll be disappointed by anything less than a 20 point victory and tacos.
GO LAKERS!

That wasn't a foul on fisher, it should have been a NO-CALL by the ref's. If anything the foul is on the dumb ref's for making a stupid call like that on a last possession.
PLUS, the refs gave GS the game prior to this game by calling a bogus call against LA that ended up costing us the game. Sweet justice was served, so everyone is even now. MOVING ON.....
Posted by: blaze1bx | March 28, 2008 at 11:28 AM
ehhh... that's odd. Stu must have been looking at multiple angles, because from that one, fisher's left arm is not locked on ellis or anything.
Anyways, I feel kind of bad beating the grizzlies after we stole their best player. that being said, we better beat the grizzlies.
make it hurt. keep up the all-star play, Odom. Let's try to get some "Coby" chants early-on.

Stu Jackson has to issue a statement bc/ of the whole Donaghy thing.
The NBA - where covering your a$$ amidst scandals happens!
On another not, what do the writers expect an MVP to be?
Lebron has sick numbers but his team is not winning consistently, not to mention he plays in the east.
Kobe has better numbers than Paul except in assists and has no other all stars on his team. He is also leading the Lakers with 2 starters out.
They say that Kobe is the best player in the game. Why can't he be the MVP as well?
I remember Magic, Bird and Jordan being both the best and the MVP. Its crazy how these journalists talk out of both sides of their mouths when it come to Kobe winning the MVP.
Posted by: MJCMAN32 | March 28, 2008 at 11:39 AM
The NBA powers that be make no sense sometimes. That was a pretty dumb move issuing a statement regarding that call, because if GS happens to miss the playoffs by a game, all it does is give them some kind of reason, or excuse, or gripe to blame a admitted "incorrect" call on a game that could've have cost them their season. I seriously question the decision making in the NBA at times.
Posted by: wondahbap | March 28, 2008 at 11:41 AM
BK,
what is with this thing that the calls even out. Sometimes you try to be so natural that it makes absolutely nosense. All lakers complain about the ref, not just Kobe. It would be Kobe's fault if Kobe was the only one, but our team complains because the refs just plain suck. I do agree that they need to stop, but I wont be so blind either that the players do have a reason to complain.
Coming out with this statement even makes this week irratating for us laker fan. We lost to a bad team, our bigs are not back, kobe is ejected in a game, one game away from a suspension, we beat Goldenstate (but we don't deserve the victory because of one marginal call , whereas there were blown calls against the lakers all game) and they beat us. Can the rollercoster stop for us?
CP3 and the hornets deserve the praise they are getting, but they will see us one more time before the season is over. Our dominant players are injured, which includes Kobe with his ankle and a pinkie that needs surgery. I don't even think anyone of us understand how he is dealing with the pain, and playing ball.

Review one, review them all.
From a video, there's absolutely no way to know if Fisher's arm pulled him down and Ellis hit him between the numbers.
If they didn't review the phantom fouls that lead to a DWade free throw record and ring, why this?

All fans, players, and coaches complain about the officiating. Check out any other blog or postgame interview from coaches and players- they're always negative on the officiating. Often with very good reasons, it's worth noting- but the point is that it's not like the Lakers are this island where they're the only team that thinks they're not getting calls. When people complain on live blogs that the officials are screwing the Lakers, there's another live blog going on somewhere with the opposting team... and their fans complaining that the Lakers get all the calls.
It's just part of the game.

All the more reason why Kobe shouldn't beatch so much. While he was losing his cool and his MVP and the team was losing to a creampuff, CP3 was winning the MVP with his second 20-assist game of the season. And get this, Mamba24, the Hornets beat LBJ and his Cavs on CP3's last assist to the 17-foot Assassin with .6 seconds left.
There have been some tremendous NBA guards who never got a 20-assist game in their careers. This kid is just 22, and he has two in one season to go along with his 24.5 PPG in March.
So, button up, Kobster, and play the game like only you can. If someone needs to beatch, that's what Whiskers is for. I'm only saying this because I AM a Lakers fan and not so much a Hornets fan. But I gotta call 'em the way I see 'em.

Stu Jackson's public proclamation of the controversial call in the Golden State-LA game the other day will elevate the level of scrutiny on one, D-Fish. Not to sound like Gordon Summers or anything, but every move Fish makes, they'll be watching him. It does not bode well for Fish and perhaps other renowned thespians and floppers out there such as Ginibili, Raja Bell, Sascha Vujicic et al. Whatever happened to playing honest and good defense rather than relying on method acting lessons from the Vlade Divac Academy of Fine Flopping.

lotecq,
Dude dont you think that Kobe knows that already. If there is anything that Kobe does best is raising his intensity and game that transends to his team during this strecth run to the postseason. I don expect Kobe to have anymore bad games for this season, and have his team come out lackadascical like they did. And I for once Know Kobe will not get a technical anymore (season and post season). Its like you guys keep telling a guy what he already knows, Kobe is not one of those people you need to say it over and over again, nobody gets it more than him.
Before his last two techs, he had actually been doing better. That Bodcats game was as bad of a lost as it could get, its better they can lose their emotions now, and have a chance to redeem the purple and gold.
That Bynum video lit some fire under me too, and I cant wait till we have our real team. If we do, I don't think a single team has a chance against us. With the way we have survived, its speaks to how good this team really is.
