Friday night sound

March 29, 2008 |  1:40 pm

Not that reliving Friday night's loss to the Grizzlies at Staples- even typing that seems unfortunate- is a lot of fun, but here's some audio from after the game.  PJ talking about what went wrong, and some good copy from Fish both on how the Lakers need to respond to these losses, and why the zone continues to give them so much trouble.  Lord knows they'll continue to see it.  Also some sound from Chris Mihm, who was understandably happy to be back on the floor, though he didn't think he'd actually see time Friday night.

holy!

On a boston or spurs team or any team with PHIL not coaching(if thats what you guys call it)

P.J- wouldn't of got an extension

FISHER- wouldn't start

LAMAR- limited minutes at first, but during the course of the season with all his disappearing acts and bone head plays, most likely end up as a bench player.

VLAD- used more with a smart coach who knows how to use his players( what did he make a pass at jeanie)

SASHA, WALTON- garbage time players eventually getting waived

MIHM- released along time ago

RONNY- used off the bench, but minutes would probably increase b/c the dude can play, has heart and wouldn't have phil or kobe breathing down his neck which in turn play more relaxed.

MBENGA- used for 6 fouls and garbage time

KARL- used the same, maybe for another year or so.

FARMAR- used in 3point plays only, but not to run the offense.

IRA- Defensive focused player would definitely get SOME pt.

Leaving only three players deserving of a championship, well 4 if you throw in Ronny.

Your coach is the problem, oh and the teams you guys keep playing too are the problem. Their coach and players feel/ smell your coaches and players weaknesses. I feel bad for Kobe he's under P. Jackson's spell

This has been hard to watch,.But at least being #1 in the West this season really means nothing more to us than Kobe's M.V.P. Truthfully.

Securing some kind of homecourt advantage would help us out less than I'd like. The Staples Cednter crowd seems to do little for the Lakers and at this point, I'd put more money on them when they're out on the road.

Bottom line...
We just need to make the playoffs and get Andrew and Pao back!!

.dtm

WE NEED TO LETS 3 PLAYERS GO FOR PLAYOFFS 1 LUKE 2 SASHA AND 3 FARMER WE WILL BE CHAPMS WITH OUT THIS THREE CLOWNS

BK/AK -

Will the LA Times offer this blog at some point in braille? After the past two losses I gauged out my eyes with my television remote because of the horrible defense I was forced to watch.

Two really disappointing losses in a row and at home. Two great chances to seal home court for a few playoff series.

Come on guys..... now is not the time to start playing poorly....

I don't care where we end up in the standings, as long as we don't have to play Golden State or the Phoenix Suns 1st round.

Let me tell you something, the Suns would kick the hell out of the Lakers 1st round, Pau/Bynum or not.

can someones tell me why whenever Lamar misses a shot a freethrow makes a bad play a bad foul a foolish move during the critical moments or the last seconds of the game ,he SMILES ? WHF this is disgusting !

LAKER NATION...... I CARRIED THE TEAM ON MY BACK .......TO THE FINALS........... WHO ON THIS CURRENT TEAM ............. COULD DO THAT?...................EXACTLY........................NO ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PHIL JACKSON SUCKS BANDWAGON

01. Fire32 (unbiased driver)
02. Troll Man (PJ's a joke)

I'm recovered enough to read and blog.

I don't understand Phil. He let's Sasha shoot 3's at the end, and Kobe stops his offence.

Also, if DFish is hurting so much what good is he going to be for us?

Kobe averages 51% and the whole team ends up at 39% (or less)?

No doom and gloom; I'll be alright tomorow. And so will be our Lakers.

Let's rock; Go Lakers

Baywood

I guess two more wins and we make the playoffsf!!!!!!
I guess I got to get more positive. Help

Home-court advantage in this year's W.C. playoffs mean very little, unless a series gets to a game 7. However, I think any team would prefer to play on their home court in a game 7.

Besides, assuming Golden State ends up with the 8th seed, how many team's do you know really want to play the Warriors in round 1? I don't think the Lakers or Suns do, if the truth be told. I'll take any seed if my team can matchup with the Houston Rockets.

I know Laker fans may not want to here this, but the one team that scares me as we approach playoff time are the Phoenix Suns. Why, you ask?
We see that Shaq gives the Suns more options, both offensively and defensively. They are scoring more fastbreak points than ever and are putting up more points than before the trade. Bottomline is this, does anyone know what the upside is to this team? Shaq is looking better every game it seems. And the Suns offense is gaining more and more confidence. I haven't even mentioned Amare Stoudemire.
We know what you get with every other team in the West. Team's are what they are at this point of the season, right? Are the Suns today what they will be in a month? I'm not so sure.

I guess last night's game vs. Memphis did nothing to bolster one's confidence in the Lakers.

Don't you mean drumroll.... dumb dumb.

Fire32,

I know you have a right to read and post on whatever blog you want, but we really don't care what you think . I don't understand why fans from other teams feel the need to post on an opposing team's blog. I hate the Suns as much as anyone, but I've never posted on a team blog that wasn't the Lakers.

The AZCentral has a blog why don't you post on there? It's one thing when a Laker "fan" like Laker Lover who seems to genuinely dislike every player on the team posts on here, but Suns fans posting on here makes no sense.

KOBE IS THE PROBLEM!

DON'T NEED TO LISTEN TO SOUND BYTES. IF A PLAYER DON'T PASS THE BALL, IT'S SIMPLE...TEAMMATES ARE NOT GOING TO PLAY DEFENSE.

JUST FOCUS ON THE SHOT ATTEMPTS.

This is the Kobe of last season. Only difference is he's going have the MVP Title instead of the scoring title.

ANOTHER SEASON GOING BY AND THIS GUY STILL DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE HOW TO PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL.

D.Fisher G - (2-7)
K.Bryant G - (19-37)
L.Odom F (1-7)
V.Radmanovic F (3-8)
R.Turiaf C - (3-10)

BYNUM, GASOL, ARIZA. DOESN'T MATTER. THIS GUY HAS LOST THE PLOT FOR 5 YEARS IN NOW RUNNING.

THERE IS NO WAY ONE PLAYER SHOULD TRIPLE THE AMOUNT OF SHOT ATTEMPTS OF THE REST OF THE TEAM UNLESS YOU ARE BALL HOGGING AND HAVE LOST TOTAL DISREGARDS FOR THE CONCEPT OF LEADERSHIP AND PLAYING TEAM BASKETBALL.

Absolutely, DISGUSTING!

THEN WE LOSE TO MEMPHIS. LOL!!!!

Hats off to UCLA. What a way to command a ball game. Amazing athleticism. Impressive execution. What an antidote to what we saw last night at Staples. Go, Bruins!

TELL ME, WOULD YOU HAVE THIS GUY LEADING YOUR TEAM?

http://www.nba.com/media/lakers/av_080328postgame.jpg

THE FACE OF A BALL HOG!

JUST TOTALLY DUMBFOUNDED. DON'T HAVE THE MINDSET OF A LEADER AND QUITE FRANKLY HE DON'T SEEM TO EVEN CARE.

WE BRING OVER HELP AND IT DOES NOTHING. HE STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO BE A LEADER.

STATEMENT FROM KOBE
"I WAS OPEN SO, I'M GOING TO SHOOT IT" ALL ABOUT "I". IT'S ALL ABOUT ME. HEY IDIOT YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. CAN'T YOU FIGURE THAT OUT!

ANOTHER COMMENT FROM OUR SO-CALLED LEADER
"STAYING IN FRONT OF THE BALL HAS BEEN A BIG PROBLEM FOR US" I'M ASSUMING YOU ARE INCLUDING YOURSELF KOBE. AM I RIGHT? ARE YOU ADMITTING THE THE SUICIDE REACHING POOR DEFENSIVE ATTEMPTS YOU HAVE BEEN DOING LATELY?

KOBE SUCKS!

Let's don't get this LALAKERLOVER ( The Original) mixed up with the other. We'll be just fine peeps. No panic. I'd really like to hear some comments from FAITH ! GO LAKERS !

Fire32,

The Phoenix Suns will not win the NBA championship this year. Stop dreaming!

For some reason you have this sick disdain for Kobe that I just don't understand. If you would spend more time analyzing PJ and Luke Walton you will see the Laker problem straight in the face.

Let me make this clear! Stop with the Kobe bashing and your biased opinion every time the Lakers lose a game because PJ and Luke have conspired to throw another game so that PJ can appear to be a genuis.

I now recall hearing Red Aurbach former Celtic coach and team President correct a interviewer for NBA TV when he made a statement about PJ playing carreer. The reporter said that PJ was a great NBA player and now a great coach on the brink of winning possibly another championship Red abruptly interruppted the guy and said Phil Jackson was not a great player, and that he was a subtitute player at best and not a great one at that!

I put this out for one main reason. PJ appears to be attempting to live his former non steller NBA playing days through Luke Walton a player whom PJ thinks he can duplicate himself through.

Phil and Luke are the Red Holzman and Phil J of the 21st Century!! P.S Jerry Buss Get Rid of Both these CLOWNS!!

Well, what do you think?
Oh BTW you put a space between Fire and the #32, nice try though.

Are you all kidding me? Kobe had to take the scoring load last night. Lamar had an upper resp. issue. I know Kobe did earlier in the year and still played reasonably well but let's not even try comparing the two. On top of that, D-Fish has a foot issue which should sideline him.. Everyone is talking about homecourt advantage? It seems like this team plays better on the road than at home. We can't use not having Bynum/Pau as an excuse cuz we beat up on the warriors and the jazz at their home court.. let's all relax.. don't get me wrong, i am frustrated that the team doesnt show up against the cellar-dwellers..

I have always maintained that the only untradable guys are Kobe, Bynum and Pau.. (Fish too cuz of the reason why he came back).. I love the rest of the guys but if we traded anyone else on the roster for a legit return, than I see no problem.. just like letting Maurice Evans go for Ariza.

Lose to a 6-28 road team. Lose to a 5-30 road team (1-20 Western Conference).

Where is the MVP when you need him? 2 points in the 4th quarter. Took his own teammates out of rhythm by taking so many shots in the beginning. If Kobe’s going to do that, then he has to make sure that he follows through since it was apparent his teammates were deferring to him because of his propensity to shoot during the early stages of the game.

I noted after the loss to the Bobcats. What exactly can Kobe do these days to affect the outcome of the game other than scoring? He doesn’t play defense particularly well anymore and the Lakers were actually fortunate that Bryant’s shots were falling; considering most of them were jump shots.

The leader sets the tone for the team. Kobe started to shoot a lot of 3’s. Guess what the rest of the team does. Follow suit.

Bryant’s game is beginning to resemble Jordan’s stint on the Wizards. Nothing but jumpshots. Can’t blow by anybody. Rarely creates open looks for teammates. Either his legs are really hurting but I do hope the Lakers don’t give Kobe the maximum.

He’s clearly on the decline. The decline of a player is usually evident in his shot selection. Kobe’s game is relegated to being a volume jump shooter. Remember, he couldn’t even get enough lift and had his jumpshot blocked twice.

If the Lakers really do have the “best player in the league”, why are the Lakers losing to two of the worst of the worst road teams in the league? If Kobe is truly #1 out of 300+ players, why isn’t this fact showing up more in the W-L column? Instead, the Lakers are only a .500 team with Gasol out of the lineup.

It’s excuses after excuses for Bryant pundits. W-L is the bottom line. Where is the “MVP” when the team needs him? Isn’t it during these tough times that the MVP should rise up and carry the team? Yeah, you might argue that he scored 53 points.

Obviously that’s not the formula for winning with this roster. From what I remember, Bryant’s scored 40+ this season around 5-6 (possibly even 4) times. The Lakers have obviously done well without needing him to score in bunches. What this roster needs is somebody to lead by example by PLAYING THE RIGHT WAY. Team ball offense predicated on solid defense.

If the team sees it’s leader, having made up his mind before the game to jack up shots, then the teammates are not going to commit themselves on the defensive end since their leader isn’t leading by example. He talks the talk (barks a lot) but rarely walks the walk (doesn’t bite).

As alluded to in previous entry, Bryant’s decision making process is obviously skewed. Since Bryant was still fuming about the technicals, what does he decide to do?
Bingo. You guessed correctly if you said that Bryant was going to come out and be very very aggressive on the offensive end. It’s like he’s trying to “show” up nonexistent entities. Is that how he psyches himself up before a game? It was downhill once Bryant jacks up 3 consecutive shots on the Lakers first 3 possessions.
MVP? Seriously? The best of the best losing to 6-28 and 5-30 road teams? Honestly? Bryant’s teammates are at fault? So when the Lakers win, Bryant’s the MVP. But when the Lakers lose, the onus is on the team?

That sure makes sense.

"This game is so big, fans who swore off the Lakers in February for good will make an exception to the rule" AK

All sarcasm aside, the line reminds me of sentiments expressed by Crocodile Dundee. Having left the very familiar and primitive surroundings of the remote Australian Outback for the first time in his life, Dundee found himself checked into a 5 star New York City hotel.

Strolling around his room, he was struck with astonished bemusement at the opulence and modernity of its offerings, even pausing to ponder the usefulness of the bidet in his water closet. Chuckling to himself, he could only imagine how it could be used. Apparently, along with a Peppermint Patty, Dundee had not yet discovered the complete operational guide; "Bidets for Advanced Dummies" which had thoughtfully been left on his pillow by Miss Piggy Miller.

Of all the things Dundee could recall having learned about the civilized world, one item in the room looked all too familiar. It was a television set. He had watched one once as a youngster. Dundee switched it on. It was loud and stupid. On the screen was a silly girl who was hogging all of the attention and behaving like a clown. After no more than 5 seconds of this nonsense, he abruptly switched it off. "Yep, seen that before", he said. Nothing had changed. He still didn't love Lucy.

Fans who swore off of the Man-child must be kicking themselves for tuning back in.

Gunner,

Same post different words for years now. Man, don't you get bored? Why the obsession?

Kobe's winning the MVP this year. If that doesn't shut you up, nothing will.

NO MVP? NO PEACE!

Fire32,

I know you have a right to read and post on whatever blog you want, but we really don't care what you think .

See thats part of the problem, alot of you here dont care about anybody but yourselves. Acting like everyone in the basketball world owes you something b/c your team has history, acting like everyone should bow down to you guys b/c your team has championships.
Sorry buddy, but your team has hole ( that you guys refuse to acknowledge) and goes through the same sruggles and after the same thing, that every team does.

So you guys go ahead and bash, make jokes, put down, talk trash about every team out there, Oh yeah and keep acting like we owe you respect b/c the lakers are greatest team ever. Ha, I'm sure that you guys thought that the grizz and the bobcats respected the lakers enough to just lay down on you guys right.

we'll be fine.

I'd rather play the Spurs 1st round than the Suns or Warriors.

Man I love you guys (AK/BK), but the slow updates are killing the flow of info........

=)

On not playing Newble

BK's excuse from Phil is that he doesn't know the Triangle offense, does anyone on this team know it? It just seems to me that we are just running and gunning most of the game anyway. We don't pick and roll. We don't isolate mismatches, We don't do dodo.
So how in the world can you use the Triangle excuse for Newble when the team doesn't run it anyway.

I have never seen such a poorly coached team in all aspects of the game. We have no fundamentals, no team concept, no defense, no nothing.

This team is a reflection of its _______

Fire32,

I didn't mention anything about championships. I try and follow the NBA as a whole not just the Lakers (I'm a college journalist whose dream job is to cover the NBA). The point I'm making which you obviously missed is I don't see the point in posting on other boards. I READ other teams boards all the time, but I don't post on them because those fans have no interest in what I'm saying as a Laker fan, just like we have no interest in what you're saying as a Suns fan.

You're not starting intellectual discussions of basketball when you come on here. All you do is post about how the team has whole and we won't be winning the title. Something you could say about every team in the West right now. You bring nothing insightful and expect people to respect your predictions of fire and brimstone for the Lakers then ridicule us when we say the same thing in response. It's pointless.

sonny,

So are you saying that the Lakers need to watch less TV? I don't understand!

I got it, but I think you guys need the few trolls that roam around in here. I'm not saying your one of these people, but there are those here that act all high and mighty and get high off what they say about their own team. You guys need us here to bring you back down to earth and let you guys know that your team isn't perfect.
So only laker fans have the right to say things about the lakers?
yes, I know this is a laker blog. So I don't post tid bits about my team like Sonny has, I don't get that and I know you guys don't care.

I have said things about fisher, lamar, phil, sasha before. I have said things about the lack of defense before, but b/c I,m from the dark side you guys don't care and say I'm bashing. Alot of you are pretty much saying the same things now though.

BYNUM IS GOING ON THE ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who's the dumb one here? You can't even tell that those posts come from other laker fans, but I see you took the space out of the name.

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE,
"I have never seen such a poorly coached team in all aspects of the game. We have no fundamentals, no team concept, no defense, no nothing."

I AGREE POORLY COACHED = PJ
POORLY LED = KOBE.

BOTH OF THESE INDIVIDUALS NEED TO LEAVE THIS TEAM AFTER THIS SEASON.

PJ WANTS TO GIVE LUKE WALTON MINUTES AND WATCH A BALL HOG KOBE JACK UP BRICKS AFTER BRICKS.

KOBE = THE BIG IRRELEVANT

MEANS NOTHING TO US BUT SCORING TITLES AND POSSIBLE MVP AWARDS. WE HAVE ENOUGH OF THOSE AWARDS.

RICK FRIEDMAN,
"Hats off to UCLA. What a way to command a ball game. Amazing athleticism. Impressive execution. What an antidote to what we saw last night at Staples. Go, Bruins!"

I JUST HOPE THE BUSS CLAN WAS WATCHING THAT GAME BECAUSE THAT'S A COACH WHO PUTS DEFENSE FIRST. AND HE IS SOMEONE WE NEED TO BE GOING AFTER NEXT YEAR WHEN WE GIVE PJUNK THE BOOT ALONG WITH HIS BALL HOG DISCIPLE, KOBE.

Statement at halftime from Jim Clemmons
"kobe had a great half but we need to incorporate the whole team"

CLEARLY THIS IDIOT KOBE BRYANT ISN'T LISTENING TO HIS COACHES. BASICALLY IS UNCOACHABLE.

HIS OWN COACHES ARE EXPRESSING WHAT HE MUST DO AND THIS IDIOT STILL CONTINUES TO BALL HOG ALL THE TIME.

KOBE, YOU SUCK!

Fire32,

I see what you're saying as far as "trolls serving a purpose." I'm not one of the guys on here that think the Lakers are destined to win a title. I've been worried about our play ever since we played you guys after the all-star break. I think that when healthy and hitting on all cylinders we're one of the two or three best teams in the league. But we also have guys that make silly mistakes and we don't know just how Andrew Bynum will respond in his first games back from a major injury. And I don't think we can win it all w/o Bynum at full strength.

But when you say things like the "Lakers are trouble" all the time it puts you in a position where your only purpose on this blog is arguing with Laker fans about whether or not you're trolling. And I just don't see the point. Especially when you dismiss the fact that we've probably been the most injured team among the championship contenders and survived it with among the best records in the league. The injury bug is catching up to us now, and it's a fact. Not homerism.

have been a longtime lurker...finally decided to join the discussion. was at the game last night and noticed many things that others have said many times.

simply pathetic defense the last three games. players showing little effort to beat somebody to the spot, harass, deny, intimidate, etc. heartless performances

the lakers have noboby on their team capable of beating someone off the dribble and creating opportunites for others. kobe can do this sometimes, but this isn't the kobe of 2000, dunking over rick smits, while at the same time elbowing reggie miller in the face. he has slowed down. that being said, he's still amazing

big, long athletic players simply kill the lakers. rudy gay looked like larry nance last night. and was simply toying with walton, rad, etc. same with hakim warrick.
embarassing. constantly going up and over people for dunks and layups. lakers also looked this way against portland. bad matchup

why is it that every point guard turns into an all-star when they play the lakers? earl watson, lowry, tj ford, have all burned the lakers in recent weeks. farmar and fisher have no chance. they cant stay in front of anybody. the lakers haven't had somebody that could stay with a point guard since ty lue. wasn't watson available this past summer? man, he would have been a great pick-up. andre miller next year?

not to beat a dead horse....but why is walton in the game in the fourth quarter? he is no threat and bigger physical players just punish him. at least vlad can shoot.
on offense....the only thing sasha can do is spot up and shoot. no penetration. when his shot is not falling, he's useless.

why is it that when there is a timeout, phil nevers talks to his players? he stands out on the court and talks with rambis. however, last night ivaroni is in his players faces, giving instructions, advice, encouragement. in fact, most other coaches also do the same. what is that about? no energy, motivation, nada. have the players tuned him out?

dont want to be negative, hope we can right the ship and make a run. good to talk to all of you

AS FAR AS STEVE NASH GOES..................I ELBOWED HIM IN THE MOUTH SO HARD HE WENT CRYING INTO THE LOCKER ROOM. I WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT. CALL ME PHIL...................................................
