Shouldn't she have given Kobe a Coke? No, wait, that was for a jersey

March 4, 2008 | 12:16 pm

No doubt it was an accident, but that doesn't make this Kobe Bryant towel toss any less entertaining.

And, to follow up on yesterday's discussion of bias vs. difference of opinion- I thought some of the responses were really interesting on a subject important to both fans who watch/read and people like me who write/talk- it's worth posting Kelly Dwyer's follow up post on the Ball Don't Lie blog at Yahoo!.  Again, the point isn't to start a LeBron vs. Kobe debate (I think it's pretty clear where most of this site's readers fall on the issue), but to think about how people like Dwyer (and by extension people like me, AK, and other writers) go about their business.

I will fully admit, this guy sees more games than I do.  I think I see enough, and probably more than many writers, but no doubt his batting average is higher.

AK/BK - quick question - did the league review the Dirk fouls and suspend him for a game (or 2 or 3....)? I guess they weren't unnatural basketball moves, right? Hmmm.....

GO LAKERS!

The BEAN for MVP or NO PEACE!!

LakerTom,

KFOG?

You're in the bay area?

i don't understand why anyone would want to read that guy's drivel. i read 1 paragraph and no matter how much he tried to color his lebron glasses rosy, or preface his arguments with 'oh, i think kobe is awesome, BUT.....lebron is so sexy!' -- when you're wrong, you're WRONG. he may have watched a ton of games, but that doesn't mean he isn't watching them with biased bifocals on. sorry to say but he's just not objective. his whole argument is flawed and contradictory.

BK-

I read the whole thing. FIVE times. Actually I've been reading for three years. And don't tell me you think much of Kobe. That's fine it's your opinion. But this is KOBE ONE KENOBE's house, just trying to remind you that. Sorry to say, but becasue of too much Kobe hating you're still FIRED.

I hope that Berry Sanders and Adrian Peterson thing helped you out though.

What I'm saying is if you say LeBron is better than Kobe, you're either SLOW, don't know the history of the game and the MAMBA (and havn't heard names like Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, T-Mac, DWade, and most recently Kyle Korver (your boy BDL went out on that one), or you're bias. It has nothing to do with opinion. I don't know if rayray bashing on you is much but I'm doing my part to BALANCE THE FORCE.

exholurderor:

I've been trying some diet Coke does that help? Sorry I don't understand that word you used. Too much for my bad side of the town education.

Gueco:

I wasn't really proud of the post. Therefore no CAPS. BK does alot for us. But somebody had to let him know this is Kobe's town.

Stu Jackson is a tool. Dirk should have been suspended for the Kirilenko incident and Steve Blake for his Mamba choking.

Hobbitmage, thanks for the post about greatest players ever. There have been so many great ones over the years and people forget the old and remember the new. A few months back I heard a national talk show host that I love talking about Kareem being a "terrible" defensive player. Thankfully someone brought up his being all defensive NBA like ten times. Again, thanks for the reminders.

Mark

LakerTom,
" Lamar is the ultimate warrior under the boards, fighting and scratching for position, and using his great length and reach to grab boards."

He does put forth a lot of effort in that area, but I think he relies too much on his length and athleticism, and not on technique. Note the put back by Aldridge the other night - he went right around Lamar, who made no attempt to block him out. (It appeared to me that he wasn't paying attention to the possibility of someone coming in.)

Rose,
"but I got to hand it to you guys, you are all a bunch of smart and positive folk."

The smart ones are all me using different names.

30 minutes til the cow bells ring.

GO LAKERS!!

AK: how was the press food? And more importantly, where are your seats?

rayray-

You're right. I've called him the best player in the NBA, complimented him for elevating his on and off court game, and written repeatedly that I'd vote for him for this year's MVP. I hope he can recover from such biting criticism.

Like I said, you might want to actually read the words on the screen.

BK

Exhelodrvr,
Well you are definitely one of my favorites (no offense to anyone) being that you orginally hail from Montebello.. wink wink!!

rayray report card:

1) Spurs: The most important thing for this team is being 100% healthy. The Spurs have a style to win games. They know it by heart and are the best team in executing thier style and forcing it into their opponents.

2) Celtics: Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and KG can each carry a frenchise by themselves. Well the situation is they are in the same team and they just added the most dangerous scoring PG to their roster.

3) Lakers: Odom is never going to shoot the ball well and Sasha, Jordan and Rad are a little too important to the success of the team. the answer to can they handle it, doesn't leave any questions about the Lakers being able to win this year.

4) CAVS: LeBron James can only make you look, it's up to Varejo, Gibson, Z, Wallace, Zerbiak (please don't expect me to spell his last name correct. C'Mon now), to play great even with LeBron having to dominate the ball so much.

5) Rockets: Please go back to my preseason power ranking and see what I said about Rick Adelman and the Rockets. Rick is done it with Portland, then Sacto and now Houston. the Rockets are palying with a plan and a good one.

6) Pistons: Like San Antonio they are able to execute a certain style to perfection. The problem is their coach does not know the style they are so good at to the perfection. Kinda like a fastest race car with a crappy driver.

6) MAVS: We have not seen how good the MAVS will be. The only problem is Avery may not be the ideal coach for what the MAVS have become.

7) Hornets: CP3 and the company are missing one very imoprtant element, EXPEIENCE. Byron Scott, like his most influential mentor Rick Adelman, has a way of getting the best out of his players but they need some time to learn how to beat the good team. Beating the bad team? they have that down.

8) Jazz: It's either the way refs call the games in Utah, or the way fans cheer, or the players like thier own beds in Utah. Casue the Jazz are unbeatable at home but look more like BK's Clippers on the road. (It's the way refs call the games)

9) Magic: No it's not Super man, it's their three point shooting. remeber how you used to live by the three and die by the three? Nowdays you better shoot the three or you'll be out scored bad. Magic hit their threes amongst the best of them.

10) Warriors: they are small but you better be ready when you're dealing with Baron, Jack, Monta and all those excellent small forwards they are loaded with.

11) Suns: Nash is too old, Shaq is way too old, Amare is still a baby, and Bell, Hill and Barbosa are lost. Help somebody.

12) Nuggets: I cnsider George Karl, the luckiest man alive because the Naggets injury vows covers the stink that is Geroge Karl coaching Carmelo Anthony.

13)Blazers, 14) Raptors, 15)Kings: need one more year
16) Sixers: Watch out.
17) Wolves, 18) Sonics: Need two more years

Everybody else either missing key components or should be or are rebuilding

Rose,

Lakers Legacy and I were at the same Hawks game!

BK-

I give you that. Maybe I'm not reading the words on the screen but actually too much into the words.

By the way I love LeBron James and I wish Bk was ther to give him some chill pill on this video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=DkL8mSCO0b8

But I love LeBron James and BK loves Kobe. and please read the words on the screen and trust them.

JonK.,

"So, if I have immaturely attacked the K Brothers and disruped the unity of this blog, I apologize."

C'mon Jon, there are lot of games to be played. We're not yet in playoffs and there are already flames. I know you can handle any kind of criticisms. We were one of the first bloggers that started this blog, so let's keep it working. We have now new members more active than us, more knowledgeable and cooler heads as well. I know you are a bigger person who can forgive and forget those delete 200 posts (whenever I want to send an angry four-letter words against AK/BK, I post it on Word, read it several times and imagine as though it was printed on the blog, they can't delete that post) and then move on to the next thread. To compound further your problem, Boooo on Kwame. Haha!

Rose, are you from that area?

exhelodrvr,

You better believe it! Born & raised. Oiler class of 94!

What part of the city did you live in?

Ex,
I grew up (although some would disagree) off of Whittier blvd. near MHS. I am actually still in the area near Bev. blvd. How about you?

By Lincoln; I'm very familiar with the area where you're from. One of my best friends lived across the street from Montebello Park. Of course, when I lived there, there were still operating oil wells in the hills!

hobbitmage,

Mill Valley. How about you?

Tom

ex,

Can't disagree about Lamar not blocking out Aldridge. Maybe it's a big guys thing, you know. We smaller players always had to block out or we would never get a rebound. LOL.

Kermit Washington was another great rebounder who knew how to block out. And the best might have been Elgin Baylor. Sorry to admit, by Charles Barkley was another superb rebounder who used his body great. A near lost art.

What's funny is that on most rebounds all of the players are just standing around with their faces turned to the sky as if they expect Superman to appear. LOL. And sometimes he does in the form of an athletic jumper like Kobe getting a running start from the top of the arc to flush one down. If the 4's and 5's don't block out, why should the guards do it.

Tom

Ex,
Daaaam, what a game! I think I popped a blood vessel yelling at the tv...
Just so you know, there are still oil wells in the hills. I don't know if they are drilling oil but they are still there.
Don't know how long it has been for you, but the city has not changed drastically... with a few exceptions.

can someone call out kelly dwyer for his logic? he claims that the best player in the nba should win the nba mvp. and in his latest response article he "claims" that kobe was the best player in the league two years ago. YET, in this article

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/kelly_dwyer/
04/24/champs.chumps/

he said that lebron was the best player and that lebron was the mvp...his response article has no credibility, and neither does his thought process when it comes to mvp, because he's just making things up

Rose,
My parents moved back to the midwest while I was in college (1977); I've been back to Montebello maybe 5 times since then for short visits. Been in San Diego the last 15 years.

LakerTom,
"What's funny is that on most rebounds all of the players are just standing around with their faces turned to the sky as if they expect Superman to appear."

Just another example of the general lack of fundamentals.

Lakers have games handed to them simply becaue they are the biggest market, leave it to a jew to determine basketball seasons financially. Dont believe me, look at the free throw differential to whatever team you play any given night. You will shoot twice as many freethrows despite not having a single person who can drive to the basket(Kobe being by far your best yet he is a pretty stricr jumpshooter. And before pao no dominant big men (bynum is good but not dominent Duncan, Garnett that is dominent) Then look at the spurs with timmy one of the best paint player in the games history, and parker/ ginobli the best pair of driving to the basket in the leage. yet every time they play lakers shoot 2 to 3 times as many freethrows. Hey kobe cheating coward much
