And that's why we don't play the "Warrior way"
Golden State oddball roundball, what with its fast pace and shoot until you drop mentality, can often seduce an opponent to imitate. And in the case of last night's 115-111 loss to the Warriors, imitation may have been a sincere form of flattery, but it wasn't a particularly effective one. The first half of his contest saw the Lakers taking the always tempting bait and the results were rarely pretty. 14 turnovers leading to 25 Warrior points. Fast, loose and typically ill-advised long jumpers. A Laker D constantly positioned on its heels while trying ineffectively to cover in transition. The boo birds let their Purple and Gold hear as they headed into the locker room. Upon commencing the third quarter, however, the Lakers played like... well, the Lakers. Moving the ball inside, outside, and all around before putting it up. Taking advantages of mismatches. Playing something along the lines of defense.
And before you knew it, they were right back in the mix going nose to nose with their opponent. Unfortunately, that poor first half prevented them from ever pulling way ahead, which created a situation where Stephen Jackson's back-to-back three balls in the last minute would keep his boys on top. Another cap in the feather for Jax, who's been a model of stability (believe it or not) this season. As for the Lakers, they'll have an immediate chance to create a more pleasing box score against these same Warriors this evening at 7:30 pm PST.
As evidenced yesterday, the Lakers occasionally struggle attempting to lock a foe down. To some degree, that's the result of Andrew Bynum's absence, him being their best shot blocker, rebounder and general paint monitor. Throw in the fact that Pau Gasol and Chris Mihm, neither necessarily great post defenders but certainly providers of swat, and it's clear the Laker bigs on the mend would be more than welcome back on the court. They've had enough of the whole "injury bug" thing, thank you very much. Let the Mavs see how the other half has often lived.
Shock of all shocks, Brent Barry is a Spur again.
Rajon Rondo: The NBA's Olivia Newton-John?

Thats right, we have to play our game...

Another loss that can be blamed on the scheduling and the refs.
Not really worth worrying about, if they're actually given a chance to have a shoot around and can avoid getting shafted by the officials in the final 2 minutes again, we should be fine tonight.

Good Morning Mamba24, Charles, Blog Fam,
Another glorious day in LA LA LAND!!!
Remember, it is not the loss, it's how the team RESPONDS to the loss that defines a CHAMPION. In a hostile environment, against a quality opponent that schooled us the night before, let's see how we come back.
Jordan - what's up man? Should we sign another point guard in the off-season just to keep you motivated and in line? Buddy, your ish stinks just like the rest of us.
Sasha - that was some serious "down in the mouth" looks yesterday, what's up man? Moping like your dog died or something. WAKE UP!!!
Ronny - DUNK THAT BALL MAN!!! YOU ARE TWO FEET FROM THE BASKET!!!
As the pressure rises, our younger players are feeling the heat. This is how champions are defined. They learn from their mistakes and improve every game. Let's hope our guys have the mettle to grow and not crumble.
BELIEVE IT!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

No letdowns tonight.
Blowout win for the Lakers, who'll assert themselves as rightful owners of the NBA's Western Conference.
I think the Funs are going down the next two games also, which could help seal the deal for the Laker in the Pacific Division. Provided the Lakers win tonight and beat Charlotte on Wednesday, they'll have 2 1/2 games on the Funs with a much easier shedule in the last 10 games.
How about a "Return of THE BEAST" Countdown?
I think video highlights of his early season escapades are in order for the next 13 days. We'll count 'em down up to the best of the year on the day of the Sacto game.
Today's BEAST special
Highlight reel set to terrible music. BEAST feel to the music though.

Hey Guys,
Any insight on the Farmar Turiaf spat? I appreciate your input!
Didn't catch the whole game...
Posted by: Charles | March 24, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Random Observations:
-Lamar is turning me into a believer....again.
-Regarding Ronnie's overpassing, I'm not worried about it whatsoever. He knows what he did wrong, and will make adjustments going foward. It's an easy fix.
-However, there are no adjustments that can be made to fix Luke's game, aside from a 6 million dollar bionic body transplant and a brain transpant.
-Luke is this generation's Mark McNamara, except Luke actually gets minutes.
-Farmar was getting abused by Monte Ellis, and made the game personal. Simliar to the time Farmar STOLE the ball from his teammate, Sasha, for the easy layup, he was selfishly ignoring the game plan, as well as his teammates.
-Farmar might've come close to breaking Luke's all-time Laker record for most shots blocked in a game last night.
-If Chris Webber was on the floor for the Warriors in the last few minutes, I have not doubt the Lakers woud've won.

how about just ship his a## out?!
if there is a ballhog on this team is farmar. it was a 4-5 minute period in the first when he missed 2 3pts, go to the rack and missed free throws and had 2 turnovers, without even making a pass to nobody else. i'm sure he thinks that if kobe can do it, he can too.
also in the back of his mind thinks that once kobe gone (?!), he will be the MAN with bynum and now gasol.
in a fast break down the court, 3-1, he was not in the middle, he was dribbling the ball on the same side with one of the guys running down the court, just makes it difficult to have to open pass. shouldn't a point guard learn that in college?!
later on a different fast break, 3-2, he just backed up and had a 3, missed?!
with him playing in the first, in those minutes, at the pace of the warriors, change all the momentum of the game.when he entered, the lakers were down 30-31, he left open his man for a 3, 34-30 and it was all over.
did i mention that his defense SUCKS. actually he does not play defense at all.
and always has some cheap faults at the middle of the court?! and puts the other team at the line with 6-7 minutes remaining in the quarter?! and after each call he turns his back to the referee like FU attitude.
he does not pass to kobe, not to sasha, (actually i never seen him passing to lamar either, gasol?!).
all he cares is himself and how to raise to the level of the article on nba.com.
and lately as soon as PJ takes him out, for all of the above reasons, he pouts on the bench like smush.
it is sad that all this developed or is coming out now at the end of the season.
i really have the feeling that he will be done over the summer.
i will ask coyrights from Zakee:
FARMAR SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: PsychedLakerGirl | March 24, 2008 at 11:46 AM
by the way, i'm not surprised ronny screamed at farmar, because he left his guard open all the time and ronny picked up 2 faults on those penetrations. and one by lamar.
when u don't have enough big bodies, that is a bigger mistake!!!!!!!!!
FARMAR SUCKSSSSSSSSSS
Posted by: ZIn Master | March 24, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Great game by Lamar and probably the 1st time i have ever seen Lamar and Kobe dominant in the same game.
I don't know what we were thinking on those Jackson back to back 3's. Why collapse in the paint when the defender is playing solid 1 on 1 defense.
The 1st play we had good D on Ellis, yet we still collapsed. The next play Lamar was there to help out on Baron Davis, but Fisher still sags inside the paint and doesnt just stay on Jackson.
Posted by: kelly | March 24, 2008 at 11:48 AM
one more thing.
in the same period, ronny had a big rebound, and all the players run in transition for the lay up.
who's role is to take the ball and bring it up the court?!
ronny had a long pass that was out of bounce. and the game out of reach. the warriors were up like 15. (first quarter)

Lakers proved in the 2nd half they can D up. It's all about effort. 1st half they didnt put forth the effort to play any defense. Farmar needs to focus more on the defensive end with the 2nd unit. Whats up wth his D lately?
Posted by: kelly | March 24, 2008 at 12:02 PM
I think it's pretty safe to say when you have Farmar/Dfish, Walton, and Vrad in the same line-up with no big's petroling the paint, your going to get scroed on rather easily... Especially, when your facing the Warriors...
I think LO played his best game with the exception of shooting % ( however he got put backs on most of his misses).. KB24 played a great 2nd half and a really bad 1st half... I look for the Lakers to win tonight, but it wont be a blow out......

Farmar may not be perfect, but can we let off him a bit?
Here's a guy who has serious heart and everyone just tears him down.
Yeah, he got blocked (and fouled) on a dunk attempt. You can then see him getting mad at himself and you can see him motion that he should have thrown it down two hands.
Next time down the court, he takes it to the rack with both hands looking for a monster dunk... again, he's hit in mid air and the foul is called.
The Ronnie thing... don't know anything about it.
The Sasha thing... don't know anything about it.
The Kobe thing... don't know anything about it.
But yet, everyone is so quick to talk smack about one of our hardest working guys out there.
He's not perfect. He's no saint. But he's damn good. Behind Boobie, he was this year's sophmore top of class on all-star weekend... he made Brandon Roy look like a chump.
Criticism is okay, but hating and bashing is sort of... pointless.

Last I checked it was Easter for both teams, and a hall of fame coach shouldnt use that lame excuse for the lakers getting outplayed in the 1st half. After all he is the COACH and can change personnel anytime he wants.
Fans should be questioning booster boys coaching, I have said it for 3 years, Phil can only coach a team with great players and win a championship. When he actually has to COACH and make decisions, he plays Luke Walton, Kwame Brown and Smush Parker when he has OTHER options. Remember this season booster boy was starting Kwame over Bynum and he continues to play Luke over Vlad and other players.
And once again, after another loss, he takes NO personal responbility for making good decisions or getting the lakers ready to play.
And if Kobe wants to be the MVP he needs to set the tone on defense not offense. Where was that in the 1st half?

mamba24,
OK, but you're on double-secret probation!!

Criticism is okay, but hating and bashing is sort of... pointless.
Posted by: Tim-4-Show | March 24, 2008 at 12:09 PM
i consider that i pointed out most of his plays in the 1st q. when actually no one was involved offensively till his a## got back on the bench pouting. and his NO DEFENSE needed attitude.
there is no hate. he is doing it for a while. more exactly after the ALL STAR break. obviously he played different to SHINE in the eyes of the world.
sooner or later, he will be put on the spot by the team. obviously not passing to sasha will not do it yet because sasha also does not have to much weight.
FARMAR SUCKKKKKKKKKKKS

EXHELODRVR:"OK, but you're on double-secret probation!!"
D@mn you Ex. D@mn you!! I'd rather face flames of hell
and the journals of MIKE T. than to be forced to face such
a horrible fate. Do you know grown men have been reduced
to whimpering babies under the pressure of
double secret probation. I may as well begin writting
my last will and testament now. OH THE HORROR!

Top 10 reasons for Lakers losing, by Laker Lover.
1. Kobe is a rapist.
2. Kobe is a ball hog.
3. Kobe is not a good teammate.
4. Kobe does not play defense.
5. LeBron has better commercials.
6. Steve Nash has better hair than Kobe.
7. Dirk is a way better 4 letter name than Kobe.
8. No great b-baller ever spoke fluent Italian.
9. Kobe is bringing Luke down by constantly passing to him.
10. Mr grandma could get 36/14/8 against the Warriors.

Oops that's my grandma not Mr. grandma. Even sarcasm has it's typos.... :)

Some of it is just commentary with regards Jordan Farmar, some plain observation and finally some of it is DISPLEASURE..As fans, we are going to want to discuss certain habits about our players, Kobe is the one who ALWAYS gets blame for everything, Luke is a distant second, with Lamar and Farmar tied at the 3rd spot and here lately, DFish in 4th slot..
They are still LAKERS at the end of the day and for me, I love them all even through the SCHIT they go through..

it's WAY too early to give up on Farmar. he's just young and plays immature from time to time. on the other hand, there have been times when he's turned the game around by himself by being a sparkplug when the vets were lagging.
the thing that impressed me the most last night was lamar, who absolutely owned the backboard--20 rebounds and 4 blocks. that's awesome.
i think last night was mostly about a) coming off a really tough road-trip that they did better than they expected on; b) short-handed; c) no legitimate post player to slow down penetration; d) that old laker bugaboo of not taking an opponent seriously (remember last year?). let's see what happens tonight. in the meantime, is anybody else hoping for a dallas matchup instead of golden state?

Laker Lover,
It's a lot easier to play on Easter away from home. You don't have to do the whole family thing all morning, instead you're with your teammates doing a shoot around and practicing and getting focused on the game. The home team on the other hand is extremely distracted and didn't get to practice at all before the game.
So far, both recent games where the Lakers weren't able to hold a real practice before hand have resulted in big deficits to their opponents in the 1st half... first the Rockets and then the Warriors.

...or you can talk about how Jordan was the only one attacking the basket. He may have missed a foul shot but he stopped the clock when we were already down big. Weren't you watching when he ran the court with Kobe and threw the lob for an easy dunk? Looked a little like a point guard move.
At least someone was attacking and not passing out from under the basket. It's one game so don't crucify the guy. Former MVP Smush Parker has already signed with the Clips so we can't get him back.

"passionate Lakers fan",
It's Mr. Nemaia Faletogo. My beef with you is not in regards to certain trends or bad habits that continue to show in the Lakers play, but your constant negative rants whenever they lose. That the Lakers remain at the top or near it in the ultra competitive West is a testament to how far this team has come. I'm not turning a blind eye to the fact that the Lakers have flaws, but show me any other WC team that doesn't have any flaws or is a clearcut favorite to win it all.
The reason I'm not concerned at all about the Warriors is because historically small ball doesn't work in the playoffs. Even a writer from the San Jose Mercury News pointed out in article after the Warriors beat the Lakers that the Warriors barely won against a Lakers team forced to play small ball because of injuries to Pau, Andrew and Chris. He also pointed out that when the Lakers are at full strength the Warriors are no match and that PJ has nine rings to prove that his system works while Nelson has no rings utilizing his rinky dink style of basketball. The Lakers are in a proven championship system while the Warriors are an aberration along with their fellow smallball brethren. Does anyone really give the Warriors a chance to win three series on the road in the playoffs?!! The fact that the Lakers still find a way to win with an undersized Turiaf at Center is remarkable. If the Lakers were as bad as you and Troy make them out to be, they have no business being one of the top seeds and yet here they stand behind the Hornets by percentage points for the top spot in the West. Is there still room for improvement and growth? Sure there is, but at least give them a little credit for not falling apart. I can't believe how people argue about how bad things are when these Lakers have exceeded expectations and continue to fight for the top spot in the West. I stick by my prediction that the Lakers will win the West and beat the Pistons in 6 in the NBA finals. Go Lakers!!!

Change of Subject:
Is it me, or does anyone ELSE on here look at the way Dirk Nowitski falls yesterday and think "Andrew Bynum" all over again??? Actually it also brought memories of Shaun Livingston but Shaun's injury was the WORST thing I have seen on TV since then college football player Willis McGahee tore up his knee in that Miami game! I think TV needs to have a "SKITTISH or CRINGE warning" b4 showing that kinda stuff!! LOL No seriously tho. Either way, I can't see Dirk coming back in two weeks..Dallas got issues...
But yeah just a thought..
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: lakersrydeordie | March 24, 2008 at 12:52 PM
CORRECTION to my POST, I said "SKITTISH" I meant SQUIRMISH! I am at work so forgive me cuz I have the tendency to have TYPOs and all kinda errors when I blog when I am supposed to be working!! LOL

BTW, I meant 2 comment on Lamar's rebounding lately. He is TRULY going after the ball with authority and I love the desire he has been playing with lately. I always knew he had "HEART", glad to see it translate to his on the court game. Being healthy def helps!
Keep it UP Lamar!

Here come the trolls . . . dum dum da dum
After the win over the Jazz it seemed like the trolls would be held at bay. Yet with another Laker loss, the troll population grows.
There are many types of trolls that infest our usually cordial board here at LATimes.com. A short profile of each is perhaps in order. I'd like to start with an examination of the so called "Laker Fan" troll.
These trolls are the most prevalent of our troll population. The "Laker Fan" troll likes to tell you that they're a fan of the Lakers. They'll tell you that they cheer just as hard for the Lakers as you do, but that they are holding the Lakers to a different standard. They are always critical of the Lakers, even in wins. They say things like "Fans should be questioning booster boys coaching, I have said it for 3 years, Phil can only coach a team with great players and win a championship." and they point out only mistakes made by players. They hardly deliver praise when it's due, and rarely show their faces after Laker wins. Let's do our part to rid the board of the troll scourge by not responding to them after losses when they try to ruin the board with hateful vitriol.
I support the presence of different opinions here and think that things are quite boring without them. On that same note. it's one thing to come here and provide equally intelligent arguments that are supported by logic and reason. It's another to simply yell out your case and lambaste the team only when they lose.
For me, the bottom line is whether or not you come here through good times and bad, and support the Lakers and the board with thoughtful commentary. I'm all for criticism if it's constructive.
I like the Lakers enough to give them credit when it's due.
Do you?
Snort
