A hard road
The Lakers kick off what is set up to be a brutal four game roadie that could help determine their playoff future tonight against the Hornets in New Orleans (5:00 pm, KCAL). The last time LA visited the Big Easy, the game was just that, as the Lakers walked away with a 29 point win. That team, though, had a healthy Andrew Bynum, a healthy Trevor Ariza, and no Pau Gasol, so it might be tough to make comparisons, and New Orleans is coming off a 25 point home win over the Spurs Wednesday night. Fair to say they're confident and looking for some revenge. They'll look to be more aggressive, and try to take the game to the Lakers. And like most teams the Lakers face, they'll likely look to exploit the Lakers with the pick and roll, something the Hornets do very well, led by Chris Paul (perhaps you remember him slicing and dicing his way to 21 assists when the teams met in L.A. earlier in the season, many coming off the P'n'R).
With all the MVP talk around Kobe and chatter regarding Gasol, it's easy to overlook the contributions Derek Fisher has made to the team this year. Don't, writes Jack McCallum. He's part of what has become a big ol' happy family.
In Houston, Shane Battier isn't crowing over the Rockets and their 20 game win streak, which they'll look to push to 21 tonight against the Bobcats. I'm sure the ABC folk hope it happens (by the way, Sunday's game is now a 12:30 start PST, if you didn't already hear the news). And with all the Kobe/LeBron MVP talk, someone has to make a case for T-Mac, right?

For Basketball supremacy the game was billed
My money was on Kobe and his unbeatable skill
Now don’t get me wrong Tmac does have game
But a plowhorse and a thoroughbed just aint the same.
The Rockets came in feeling they could not be beat
And 20 wins in a row is indeed an amazing feat.
But I was confident that the Freakin Lakers would win
Why? because of no Kwame and no Smush my friend
Addition by subtraction is a phrase tossed lightly around
But D@mn its true when it comes to Smush and Kwame Brown
So the game began and that Tmac he was blazing
And what did Kobe do, He made some passes that were amazing
The first half ended, TMACS team was ahead and inspired
In the second half Kobe came out and d@mn was he on fire
TMAC came out confident and taunted Kobe now that’s a cardinal sin
Man Kobe shut Tmac down, TMac couldn’t get one shot to go in
Every time the ball went to Kobe there were 2 or 3 defenders around
So Kobe passed to Lamar or Pau who viciously jammed the rock down
The game ended and Tmac said to Kobe, I don’t understand
Kobe said “Tmac that’s what happens when a child plays against a man
While you were concentrating on looking pretty and outdueling me
My eyes were on the prize which is why the Lakers got the Victory”
TMac tried a comeback line but man it was pitiful and weak
Kobe said one more thing the lakers got, We got your winning streak
So the morale of the story is boy better listen to your Mama

Good morning, my Blog family. Tension is high. Anticipation is unbearable. I don't know about
y'all, but I can't wait for tonight's game!!!
I think I stated this last month when this road trip was just a blip on the radar, but I'm so thankful
that this roadtrip has no back-to-backs. That really woulda sucked. Getting in at 3-4AM the
morning of such a big game (bad enough that the network moved up the Sunday Rockets game).
For tonight's game,
- I'm hoping that Pau can be as effective as Drew in neutralizing Chandler.
- I'm hoping that Peja will have a bad shooting night.
- I'm hoping that the Lakers make CP3 a scorer and hold him to under 10 dimes.
- I'm hoping that Lamar continues to play solidly and effectively
- I'm hoping that Kobe gets a triple-double
- I'm hoping that Pau is our leading scorer
For the road trip,

This was Pau Gasol's stats when he was still with Memphis agains the Hornets (0-3) , 18ppg, 8.7rpg, 3.3asts, .66blk in three games this year as compared to Andrew Bynum against the Hornets, 12.5ppg, 11rpg, 2.5ast, 2.5blk. in 2 games this year. basically, Gasol needs to assert more effort in the rebounding department and defense.

I don't know who you've been watching the past 12 years but everyone else knows what Kobe's going to bring on a night to night basis. What was Kobe doing from 1999-2004? What was he doing the first half of last season before we were devastated by injuries? What's he been doing this season? Playing great all-around basketball.

I love Chris Paul, and David West is really good..Who knew?? One thing for certain is, we like playing away games and we perform well under harsh environments so I expect our Lakers to come out on top.
Wonder how Andrew did on his 2nd day of back-to-backs on the 75K treadmill...

I just finished reading Luke Walton's take on the Lakers current road trip and quite frankly! I am very concerned, not so much with the road trip. But with the fact that someone asked Luke Walton" Of all the players to get a pulse for what it takes to win on this road trip you ask the weakest player on this current team to share his thoughts! I am as nervous with Luke talking to the media as I am with him in the game shooting a wide open jumper. The only thing I want to hear from Luke is that he has been working on hitting open shots in the game that he frequently misses. Just a fact!

Key's to a Lakers victory:
Containing Stojoakavic (Walton did a great job the last game they faces NO) I look forward for him along with Vrad ( hopefully takes this matchup seriously) to do the same
Neutrilizing David West: This guy might be the most underatted player in the game at his position... LO has to show us that his a great defender ( something that I doubt he is)....
Containing the penetration and the kick out for 3's... The exterior defenders of the Lakers have to make sure to stay with their man, even when they need to semi rotate....
If the Lakers accomplish this, it will be a succesfull game....

Gino,I feel you but I think with AB being out and the amount of time they initially guesstimated, we ended up getting Pau so they could really take their time with gettining his knee right. It seems that swelling took longer to dissipate. You never can tell with these things. Plus, they want Andrew to be a part of the future so no reason to chance a speedy return just for time sakes when we are currently seeded #1 without him. The Lakers could maybe risk him reaggravating the injury or something worse. Trust, they are handling this with extreme caution for a reason I am sure you know and I think it only helps us going forward. Yeah, we can use him NOW but we have faired well considering it could've been an entire difference scenario. With that being said, I think we can deal.
Besides, the Lakers have their eyez on the prize....So if that means giving Andrew a couple extra weeks, I think I like our chances.

Yes Mamba... you can put "4" down for 4-0, because they're all needed.
There's no better preperation for the playoffs than this tight western conference. Our guys will be tried by fire by the time the first round begins. There will be no surprises in the playoffs.
As for LBJ's Vogue... like I said this morning, the haterism has caused most of us to become LeBron haters. Just relax... time may just cure our ills. We've seen many "heir apparents" fall on their faces. The only one who is still standing is KB24. It's too early for the new challenger, anything can happen. For now, we have the Jason Bourne-like assassin on our team.

I know Kobe "says" these next four games are just games, but does anyone seriously believe him?
There's no way you can tell me that Kobe will let the Lakers lose more than 2 of these... and he's thinking about it right this very second, he NEEDS all four.
We've seen what Kobe does when he thinks he's in a do or die situation.
Kobe will probably average 37+ pts in the next 4, and the Lakers will be competitive in every one of them, if not winning all 4.
This is why "4-Show" is now "4-0".

I was just sitting here at my desk, and it just became apparent how truly truly deep we are when we get all our guns back and ready to buck shots.Not like I didn't know already, hell I spoke about it, we all speak about it. The media speaks about it..But you know what, I mean, its crazy, yall feel me?? Who will the opposition defend? Can't double Kobe, he will hit Fish or Sasha or Pau or Lamar cutting back door, or Trevor doing the same, or Ronny and Pau, just plain WOW! Our team is crazy. It's a beautiful thing..The funny thing is, I could see this all last season and then yall know the rest. I just want to say, it will be in the NBAs best interest to go ahead now and hand that trophy over to us, cuz we basically gonna take it anyway!

My Gosh, Mamba24, we are the No. 1 and the Hornets are favorites. Wow, no respect to our 8-2 wins. That's a good motivation for Mamba-Catalan to put the Hornets where they belong i.e. under the Lakers. I don't care who they are, the name of the game is dominate. Rather than thinking of Paul, West, Peja, Tyson - the Hornets should be worried with Kobe/Pau/LO, nobody could guard these three if they just be aggressive. Then we have the machine, the rainbow, the farmer, the Congolian beef, the son of the coach, the son of supestar, and finally the Fish, not to be forgotten the SOB!!!! Lakers bloggers who could not make up their mindS on the KOB, if you doubt the Kob don't worry we have another Cob!

Hmm cant wait for this game. I think that the Lakers have difficulty getting up to play the lousy games..and so hopefully today when they play NO, they'll get fired up and come out swinging.
What I expect is that Chandler will try to use his size on Pau. They match each other in height, but Chandler has those long arms to block shots. Pau will need to step up the mid range and make the easy buckets.
Somebody...Luke..has to guard Peja. I am concerned because Peja is a mismatch. When Andrew was playing, Lamar I believe played some SF and put a hand up in the face of Peja. Trevor Ariza also was a factor. In the first game Luke got torched because he's too slow to get back to cover a taller perimter shooter. Lamar will have his hands full with West, so somebody has to key on Peja.
Chris Paul is a monster and will put up big numbers. But we have to make sure that he goes for 35 and that Peja or West dont go for 25 either. They need to expose that bench.
I think this game will come down to the wire, but the Lakers can pull this out because Kobe will come out and hit some buckets since theres nobody on that team who can guard him. They'll probably try to throw Julian Wright (a rookie) old and slow Bonzi Wells, or Peterson on him, but they wont match up.

I've got to agree with his take. I like college ball as well, but there's nothing like the level of play you get at the NBA level day in, day out. And with my Gators being NIT bound this year, I have even less reason to watch. :(

From my analysis in the previous thread, the Lakers should only
have to win 1 of these 4 games to stay in the top 3 seeds in the
West.
So let's win tonight and lock that down right from the start.
Then any wins in the other three games will just be gravy.

no surprise but the key to tonights game is defense. we will be able to score easily. the outcome of the game will depend on how we defend, mainly against cp3. fish and mostly farmar have been getting burned by lesser point guards. i will be very curious as to how well they defend one of the best pg in the game. i think if fish comes out hot on the offensive side that could really help with his overall game tonight.
also, i think it could be a long night tonight inside and on the glass. i know we through around pau is "soft" alot on this blog but tonight will be a big test to see how he fairs against a very strong center in chandler.
im hoping the lakers can pull one out and play some defense.

i said the same, 2-2 the worst case scenario will do it especially if the wins r against NO and HOU.
that will give them the tiebreaker with both teams. we play HOU only 3 times. we have NO and DAL at staples soon. and at the end SA ....

ps. i was really wondering if they will suspend KoBe after his flagrant. based on how easily "suspend-able" he was in the past season, stern love…
