Tried to make him go to Jersey, he said "No, no, no."
You could combine all the cheers Devean George got in seven seasons as a Laker and I doubt they'd add up to the big ups he's getting from the Nation right now. In an effort to protect his Bird rights (which he'd lose if he gets moved- man alive, the CBA is complicated), George has put the kibosh on this blockbuster.
Granted, I imagine the trade will happen with somebody else in his place. But still, way to bleed purple and gold (or at least not not blue, red and silver), Mr George. No Christmas card from Bruce Springsteen for you.
AK

In fairness, wouldn't you protest if someone sent you to work in New Jersey?

He figures he owes the Lakers based on all the money he didn't earn while wearing the purple and gold.

Deavon was always a huge disappointment as a Laker. How happy does he think Mark Cuban will be with him now? Sorry, Deavon's a loser.

Wait. So gutting Dallas is a bad thing?
Posted by: mel | February 13, 2008 at 06:18 PM
Well done, Devean George! This Laker nepotism from Jerry West and yourself may not be real, but it sure does feel like it. Eat that, Boston!

Once a Laker, always a Laker

Keith Van Horn and his contract to the grizz for Mike Miller...Pop is going to go crazy if that deal gets done
Posted by: Thirty2 | February 13, 2008 at 06:23 PM
according to the salaries listed on hoopshype, it seems like eddie jones is the next closest to Devean's salary. I wonder if they'll substitute the deal with him.
Posted by: Lakers Legacy | February 13, 2008 at 06:28 PM
one last laker assist for devean george
Posted by: sixonezero | February 13, 2008 at 06:40 PM
Didn't they sign eddie jones to league min after he was bought out by someone?
Also, GS is currently beating the Suns (still early).
Go Warriors!

WOWWW Devean George is 0-6 in 17 minutes at Dallas. I can only imagine the treatement he's getting from the fans right now...making the Kwame Brown "boo-gate" look like childs play
Posted by: bobie | February 13, 2008 at 06:54 PM
Its official, KIDD in the Big D now...

this is getting ridicolous, is every east best player going to come to the west?

Devean is Mitch's Secret Agent Man ...
Posted by: Amazing_Happens | February 13, 2008 at 07:29 PM
Meh, as a Lakers fan I don't really care either way. With Jason Kidd, Dallas would become even thinner up front. Plus they'd be closing their window earlier than later.
Is there anybody with less talent who has been involved in questionable transactions than Kwame Brown. A number one draft pick, two All-Stars, and two questionable panic trades is pretty awesome for a resume.
It's like the Gasol trade made every GM and owner in the West throw caution into the wind. I think the thought of Kwame Brown being traded for an All-Star was just too much for them to handle.
I for one like it.
Posted by: AndrewT | February 13, 2008 at 07:31 PM
For the trade to go through, it has to leave Devean in Dallas, however one of the reason why Rod Thorn agreed with it, to save cap space on Stackhouse and George. Haha! Good, remember what Rod Thorn did to the Lakers last year, what goes around, comes around. This time Devean made a sweet revenge: "don't include me with your self-interests, I prefer my contract to expire in Dallas."
Is the Cuban graceful exit? This guy became billionaire because of shrewd deals, I think Kidd stays where he is. They might just make the decision at the end of the season when more F/A are available in the market. There are just too many players involve for a 35 year old PG who cannot guarantee to beat the lakers and SA with that change.

suns, spurs and mavs are desperate with their trades. lakers will be there in the next 5 years. i don't know if other teams can sustain that.

Someone should hire a babysitter for Vlad Rad this weekend...haha
Posted by: bobie | February 13, 2008 at 07:38 PM
I would hate to read tomorow that Devean reconsidered and decided to go to Jersey after all. Dallas was able to suit up its entire team tonight. If the trade had went through, they would have been extremely short handed. I hope they are not having their cake and eating it too. The NBA...where conspiracy theories abound.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | February 13, 2008 at 07:43 PM
Every team in the West are getting scared of what Lakers line-up this season.. No one sees the coming of Gasol. Though those top teams are very successful with their current line-up but they still can't imagine the destruction it brings once the A-Bomb(Bynum) is coming back.. They're preparing for the worst nightmare that they may faced..
Posted by: trio | February 13, 2008 at 07:45 PM
George doing his best to show why the Mavericks might want to keep him:
0-11 from the field and 0-2 from the line.
Posted by: wausroamer | February 13, 2008 at 07:48 PM
This is hilarious. I love Devean.
Posted by: Gabe | February 13, 2008 at 08:02 PM
Man, Golden State does play some exciting basketball. Baron is one of the best scorers in the league for sure, he's one of a kind.
Posted by: Ben Goldberg | February 13, 2008 at 08:08 PM
Wait a minute folks, the Kidd trade to Dallas would be great for us - giving up Harris, Stackhouse and Djop for Kidd makes them a very shallow team. I consider Harris for Kidd a straight up deal in terms of talent- so in essence, the Mavs lose Stack and Djop. Sweet. Now, if only San Antonio could make a stupid deal...
Posted by: Lincoln Laker | February 13, 2008 at 08:08 PM
Hey, for $1M. I will take Devean doe Luke or Mihm.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | February 13, 2008 at 08:10 PM
Amazing_Happens - great reference! Mav fans might embrace the lyrics to that song as well... "odds are you won't live to see tomorrow..." haha!

GS is going to beat phoenix tonight!
laker brothers..who would have thought we would be have the third best record in the western conference at this point?!?!
I love this....
Posted by: Lakers4Realz | February 13, 2008 at 08:12 PM
I'd just like to say that I'm really disgusted with the way the league is taking in the Gasol deal. No one has any positive words about it. Players and coaches alike are taking potshots at the GMs.
I think about what Kobe would say to the media if he were questioned about a similar deal for another team. He would say "yeah they're a much stronger team now, but we'll be ready to battle them in the playoffs". Kobe is just so far above anyone in this league except LBJ. His attitude is great
Posted by: Justin N | February 13, 2008 at 08:13 PM
Devon did the Lakers a dis-service. He kept a potent Dallas team intact. Stackhouse has hurt the Lakers in the past, and Devin, as other quick guards, always proves fatal for the Lakers. Kidd is much easier to contain.
Nothing funny about Devon voiding this trade, as it would have weakened one of our main western conference competitors.

i reiterate..bonehead move by dallas..i hope it gets done..getting in a guy who is 35 to run the point?
seriously though.....who else is going to compete with GASOL AND BYNUM?
certainly not kidd.
bonehead trade....almost as bad as the shaq thing.
Anybody else get tired of hearing

we will be able to heal up some of our banged up troops.

BYNUM GET BACK SOON!
Posted by: Lakers4Realz | February 13, 2008 at 08:17 PM
Phoenix is such a blaaaah team!
They are going to have a tough time in the West as they have NO defensive players now save for Bell.
Every time can be in a close game with these guys.
If Don Nelson stupid self stops trying to guard Amare with Stephen Jackson they might be winning!
On another note, With GAsol playing like this and Odom settling into a nice 3rd role, I think I might prefer Bynum off the bench. I cant say for sure for sure it's a good idea but just a thought. That way, he can KILL the 2nd unit players on the other team or sub for Gasol when he gets that 1st foul. I worry about Odom's role changing too much because he has shown to be ineffective when asked to do too much.

This GS-Phoenix game is just really entertaining to watch. Everyone on GS can bust the three. Keep it up GS, D'Antoni is about to blow a blood vessel!
Posted by: Ben Goldberg | February 13, 2008 at 08:26 PM
Mike D'Antoni is a joke as an NBA coach. I can't wait until the Lakers come to town next week. I hope Shaq plays, so I can watch the Lakers run circles around him in person. Never have seen him play. I moved away from LA before he came to the Lakers and when I did try to see him play, he was injured. Typical.
GO LAKERS!

Devean is just showing that Laker love never dies. Van Gundy is being a homer by stating that Houston may be the best team in the West right now during the telecast of the GS/PHX game on ESPN. I think that's a very funny statement from Van Gundy. Sure, the Rockets are on an 8 game win streak, but every team in the West has made a run so far this season(Jazz, Blazers, Lakers, Hornets, Spurs, Suns, Mavs, Warriors)for which they were labeled either the hottest or best team in the West.
Right now the Warriors are giving the Suns all they can handle right now late in the fourth. C'mon Warriors, beat the hated Suns.

smug remark regarding Jersey, BK - falls into some sort of arrogant perception...Don't the Nets play 10 minutes from Manhattan?......
Posted by: 10milliondollarzen | February 13, 2008 at 08:30 PM
LOL, Lakers4Realz, we said almost the exact same thing about D'Antoni. Anyways, Baron is still doing his thing, what a fun game!
Posted by: Ben Goldberg | February 13, 2008 at 08:30 PM
It doesn't matter who gets who in the west because this laker team is reminding me of SHOWTIME LAKER teams and they are all together. I can't beleive it but even Lamar has become better.
SHAQ is WACK and who cares about KID
