Today's "Big Comment Award" goes to...
Lakersblog mainstay "Exhelodrvr," with this gem of a response to BK, who had recently explained to another reader that considering Andrew Bynum is just now able to jog in a swimming pool, the odds heavily favor him not being ready for NBA action quite yet.
"What if they let the home team pick the surface, like in Davis Cup tennis? Like the story of a height-disadvantaged Congressman who, after a heated debate, challenged Congressman Abe Lincoln to a duel. Lincoln didn't want to fight, so (as the challengee) when he picked the weapons, selected sledge hammers in 6 feet of water. The two ended up becoming good friends."
I don't think it needs to be explained why that's sheer, unbridled genius.
AK

Congrats, Exhelodrvr.
And a great choice, AK.

EX:
Question: Is that a true story about good ol' Honest Abe? I've never heard it before. Regardless, that was funny as hell.
Sledgehammers in 6 feet of water. Genius.

Exhelodrvr,
Congratulations.
AK/BK,
I think you're going to have to start keeping records. So, at the end of the year we can have an official "Blogger of the Year."
You've won, this time! Exhelodrvr! But YOU WATCH YOUR BACK!

THIS IS HOW I HEARD CHRIS MIHM THE OTHER DAY:
Mihm was singin like:
This is why I’m hot
This is why uh
This is why I’m hot (uh)
This is why I’m hot whoo
This is why
This is why I’m hot
I’m hot coz I’m lasy(easy)
You ain’t coz you’re not (mihm)
This is why
This is why I’m hot
This is why I’m hot
I dont gotta play
I can get a mill not doing nothing on the court
I represent the Lakers
I got it on my Chest
And they say that we lost it
So I’mma bring it back
I love the injury injury
Coz players show me no love
The fans start to bounce
As soon as I hit the court
But in the WC (West conference)
They love to take it hard
So when I hit the C
I watch you leavin the floor (arena)
And if you needed hyphy
I take it to the bay
Frisco to San Antonio town
They do it eryday
Coppin a Hollywood
As soon as I hit LA
I’m in that low low
I do it the Kwame Brown way
And when I hit ATL
People say that I’m fly
They like the way I lay they like (they like my) my attire
move fans from side to side
They ask me how I do it and simply I reply
This is why I’m hot
Catch me on the block
Every other day
Another fan another drop
31 bars, 24 pop one million fans gimme what you got
I’m in there getting rebounds
Push them off the paint
I’m into shutting players down so I can play
If you need a prove I can get it when I get back
Tell me what you need you know I get ‘em by the ....
I call my hommie Brown meet me on the bench
I hit wash heights with the money in the bag
we into big injuries
See my coach never complain
Find me with different injuries that you fans never had
For those who say they know me know I’m focused on my check
Playa you come between you’d better focus on the bean (Bryant)
I keep it so feen the way you see me lean
And when I say I’m hot my fans this is what I mean
This is why I’m hot!

It is much better for Bynum to start he will feel much better coming from a pre game warm up and play, second half warm up and play. Coming off the bench stiff is not going to help him..

New Jersey can rise in the East with Devin Harris and Diop helping them.
(Devin Harris/Williams) 25/21 yr old
Vince Carter/Hassel
Rcihard Jefferson/Nachbar (Lebron James) 23 yr old
(Sean Williamns/Kristic) 21/24 yr old
(Josh Boone/Diop) 23/26 yr old
I like the combination of Devin Harris and Sean Williams.
This could be Lebron James future teammates. Cavs had lost two games in a row with Big Ben. If they can keep ths team together minus Carter and Jefferson and wait for Lebron to join them, this team is young and talented to play with King James!
In three years Detroit and Boston have aged tremendously...
Nets, Hawks and Raptors can start to rise. These will be the teams in the EAST the Lakers will be competing for NBA FInals in the next ten years.

"Question: Is that a true story about good ol' Honest Abe? I've never heard it before. "
Supposedly it is.

AK,
Thanks, and as many others have noted previously, you and BK have created a very enjoyable site here.

If we did play a game in a pool, I bet Shaq would benefit as much as anyone. Of course, he'd ask to be called "The Big Shamu," as if people didn't already start calling him that as far back as 2005
Posted by: The D | February 29, 2008 at 01:52 PM
Changing the subject here....
Those TNT announcers are annoying. I've somehow always, always given them chances by turning on the volume, but it never fails. I always end up turning the volume off and put on Joel and Stu from the radio. Btw, great job Joel and Stu!
Those TNT guys sound like a couple of guys seated in the row behind me blabbing too loud about nothing I don't already know, or just plain wrong. They're just distracting my focus on the game. Does TNT pay them to call games, or do they pay TNT? Dang! I always cringe when I see a Lakers game will be on TNT.
Posted by: Jamesol | February 29, 2008 at 01:53 PM
Okay, so it's not haiku or and only bears a passing resemblance to iambic pentameter ....... but it's a start.
We clutched our hearts and almost died, Kobe it seemed was saying goodbye,
But the Doc and Kupchak said hold on son, give us one more chance to prove you wrong.
Now aren’t we glad they didn’t shuffle the deck, when Kobe got mad and was upset,
Sure they heard his song but stood up strong, and all’s right now in Laker land.
to be continued ...
Posted by: Glenn | February 29, 2008 at 01:58 PM
The Lakers knew 4 weeks ago Bynum would be out longer. The Lakers are good at hiding it. They played it well...I wouldn't be surprised at all if he misses the whole season.

REPOST
Frank Rizzo et al.....
Of course, if the doctor says Bynum cannot play then he won't play but don't treat a 20 year old as a baby! It is mind over matter. If you can run around the swimming pool then you can do some running on the court.
If you are the doctors of Bynum, with all your pronostications and preventions, he will still be in bed after the Olympics....."don't do this, don't do that,.....you're weak...my baby, Socks". Have you not heard of Willis Reed of the Knicks 1969-70 or Isiah Thomas 1988-89 Detroit Pistons? I'm not saying Socks will play in that manner but STOP treating him as a baby. The more you motivate him to play, the more that injury heals faster. It's mind over matter. I kept on reading here in this blog, "oh we don't have to play Bynum, Pau & Kobe can handle it." NO! they are just forcing themselves to handle the precarious situation. They too are playing hurt but they just keep on playing. Have you not heard of Pau Gasol injuries after the FIBA games and he was unavailable early this year? Have you not heard of Kobe's ribs and that torn ligament that many of you want it to have surgically repaired just few weeks ago? Is he complaining? NO, he makes the best deal out of the situation. The purpose of my post is TO WAKE UP EVERYONE, there is an objective on hand, get up and work! Don't depend of Kobe-Pau combo deal.
Lakers is a prized possession of Los Angeles, we have the best hospitals in town from Centinela Clinic, to UCLA, USC, Cedar Sinai, the best orthopedic surgeons and rehab specialists are all available. If our objective is Championship, you can't just rely on Gary Vitti, there are tons of hospitals around you ready to assist. The problem with you guys, you are acting as if you live in small town, taking care a Hossier's high school team .... We are the Lakers, get the best treatment in this metropolitan city because we are at WAR!.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | February 29, 2008 at 02:06 PM
I don't know if anybody has posted about Avery Johnson sitting Jason Kidd but that's pretty much what I expect out of Avery Johnson. I would hate to play for a guy like that, a total control freak who convieniently forgets that he ever made a mistake as a player and sucks all the joy out of the game whether you win or lose.
I'd be shocked if Avery Johnson is still the coach of Dallas next year, it seemed like his tactics were wearing thin long before this, then he pulls the mother of all ego moves, sitting Kidd through several timeouts at the end of a close game. Wow.
Posted by: TaosHum | February 29, 2008 at 02:10 PM
IT CAN'T BE SEA MINERAL WATER!!
Lakers are the team to beat. The best team for the next decade to come. Kobe could become the first player to surpass Bill Russel's NBA tiltle wins granted they all stay healthy and of course much depends on Bynum's development. All NBA players have talent but what makes a player great is that "fire" within and be aware of ides of March as I have see that fire in Bynum. Kobe, Magic, Cap, Jordan, Bird all had that "fire" within.
Does Bymum need Sea Mineral water ?

GET RID OF AVERY JOHNSON!!
what a nincompoop!!
Posted by: DallasFAN | February 29, 2008 at 02:17 PM
You know why the 2nd unit of:
Bynum
Turiaf
Ariza
Sasha
Farmar
vs
Pau
Odom
Luke
Kobe
Fish
would win everytime???
Sasha!!! About as long as it takes to say Sasha, Kobe would have 2 Ts and tossed out. For some reason this guy gets under there skin. Seems like a nice guy???
The Machines over the Starters!!!
If they get this game tonight I have a feeling this streak is going to be in the 20s...
Go Lakers!!

Edwin,
"If you can run around the swimming pool then you can do some running on the court. "
He's not running around the pool, he is running in the water, where the majority of his weight is supported by the weight of the water, thus minimizing the impact on the joints. It allows him to safely work on the muscles that his activity requires.
The absolute WORST thing to do would be to come back too soon from an injury like this; he'll end up compensating for it, and developing chronic problems.
Posted by: exhelodrvr | February 29, 2008 at 02:31 PM
You get Kidd and then you sit him at crunch time??
Avery, talk about over coaching...Geez..
This blog would blow up if Phil did that..amazing..

Oh and about the Abe Lincoln thing. 6 ft of water? Their seconds got in the way at the last minute and the duel was cancelled, that's the story.

Anyway, I got your point, I just want to rally the troops who are having fun with winning.
With apologies to Sir Winston Churchill:
"We shall fight in Portland, we shall fight in Dallas. With or without Andrew, Vlad and Trevor, we will continue the fight to San Antonio. We shall fight in May and extend the fight all the way to Boston in June. We are the freaking Lakers. We shall never surrender. I have nothing to offer but my nine fingers, our laker blood, toil, sweat and tears."

Opposite extremes - Avery vs Phil:
Avery is short, Phil is tall
Avery is loud, Phil is soft spoken
Avery is criticized for over-coaching, Phil is criticized for not coaching
Avery preaches like a pastor, Phil preaches like a monk
Avery is nervous, Phil is relaxed
Avery is a control freak, Phil is a controlled freak
Avery is inexperienced, Phil has nine rings
Avery sits Kidd in crunch time, Phil plays Smush and Luke in crunch time
Next up: Opposite extremes - Dirk vs Kobe

Is Fire32 that vapid? I don't think he understood that he was getting insulted by that comment. Typical Suns fan. I think the reason being the fan of the best and most historically great team in your sport is so great, is that most of the fans of those teams are knowledgable and intelligent. Suns fan is not usually that. I live amongst them. Trust me.
Posted by: "Pig" Miller | February 29, 2008 at 03:31 PM
Fire32,
Good to have you aboard. Here's a question... how much do you think Grant Hill can make up for in losing the Matrix?
I know without Grant Hill, the Suns would REALLY be hurting after this trade, but Hill makes the medicine go down a little easier. What's your opinion?
