Real time game thread- Lakers at Hawks
February 6, 2008 | 4:06
pm
It's the second go round for Pau Gasol as a Laker, and a potential trap game for his new team. The Hawks are all bouncy and young, and run around a lot. They've also just capped off a 4-11 January. Still, they've won two straight, and are 14-9 at home. All in all, it's a game the Lakers should win, but they need to pay attention.
Remember, KCAL viewers, stay away from this one. And the Internet in general, until 5:30.

Fish preparing for the Oscars!
But dang - make that 2nd FT next time.

Kobe's definitely not on scoring mode tonight. The double-double is not bad though
Posted by: Ando | February 06, 2008 at 06:16 PM
Suppose Gunner! Kobe should not have gone for that lay-up
You are not for real! You are just a replica!!!

considering that the lakes played last night in jersey THEN had to fly down to atlanta for a back to back...we don't look fresh but this is still a winnable game
( the NBA schedule-makers weren't kind...even NJ is playing in orlando tonight)
Posted by: CBuck | February 06, 2008 at 06:17 PM
You have got to be kidding me with that call.
Posted by: Jesterguru | February 06, 2008 at 06:17 PM

Down two with the ball...
Kobe time? I'm not really sure about this...
Posted by: KB8th Wonder | February 06, 2008 at 06:18 PM
Bad overall team effort.
Even if we win, this 4th quarter sucked.
Plugh!

PUT COBY KARL IN DAMNIT!
GO LAKERS!

Please, don't give the final shot to Odom....
Posted by: Ando | February 06, 2008 at 06:19 PM
Win or lose this game the Lakers have too much talent for any team in the NBA. Kobe is playing smart ball and he has so much talent around him that its going to be easy once the Lakers get to know how gasol plays.
Posted by: jon | February 06, 2008 at 06:19 PM
I'm seeing a pattern with Fish getting jobbed on calls at the end of games lately. At best that's a no-call.
And here will come snarky gunner.
Posted by: Jesterguru | February 06, 2008 at 06:19 PM
Those missed freethrows.
Come on guys.
Posted by: rondiel | February 06, 2008 at 06:20 PM
Urgh.
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: Jon K. | February 06, 2008 at 06:20 PM

Kob's 1st T.O. and what a time for it to come. Huhuhu
Posted by: rondiel | February 06, 2008 at 06:21 PM
The SUns will be sorry for trading for Shaq. As a Laker fan I have much respect for the guy who helped the lakers dominate but he just isn't any good any more.
Posted by: jon | February 06, 2008 at 06:21 PM
Yeah,
I see snarky too.

What the hell was Sasha thinking?
GO LAKERS!

Sucks.
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: Jon K. | February 06, 2008 at 06:26 PM
This is what happens when you sleepwalk through the game.
We can play better than this.
Go Lakers!
Posted by: Faith | February 06, 2008 at 06:26 PM
So much for my Fish prediction. Dangit, he tried though. Blame it on the Jester. I jinxed us.
Still good things in store.
Posted by: Jesterguru | February 06, 2008 at 06:27 PM
Ugly, ugly, ugly.
Someone called this win, citing the Hawks youth and athleticism. That person was right. Good call.
Wes
Posted by: wesjoenixon | February 06, 2008 at 06:27 PM
Free Throws ruined the game for us.
Posted by: never | February 06, 2008 at 06:27 PM
Wow, I'm so happy for Goony! His wish that the Lakers will lose came true. Very, very happy now KL? Ha ha ha,
Posted by: Lakergurl | February 06, 2008 at 06:27 PM
Kobey should take a couple fo games off his shot is not even close
A back to back road game the lakers just didn't have it tonite
Posted by: shneurson | February 06, 2008 at 06:28 PM
This loss is on Kobe. He mismanaged the game. I can understand getting everyone involved but kobe has to balace out getting others involved and keeping himself involved. The lakers seem to be coasting throughout the game and thought they could turn it on when they wanted and look what they got. This need to be a lesson. The Hawks had no business beating the lakers.
Posted by: 70slakerfan | February 06, 2008 at 06:28 PM
nahhh,, whatever....
Posted by: darkhangelsk | February 06, 2008 at 06:28 PM
Sasha wasn't thinking. This loss was on him.
I believe in you Sasha, but if you want to play the last 2 minutes of the game, like you've said you do...you need to be mentally in it.
Posted by: Faith | February 06, 2008 at 06:28 PM
That's ok. We were tired.
Posted by: Tsiry | February 06, 2008 at 06:28 PM
I think we ran out of gas.
Ok guys. Forget it and move on. We'll see these Hawks again at Staples.
Go LAKERS!
Posted by: rondiel | February 06, 2008 at 06:28 PM
6 guys in double figure
and the result?!

I just loved this loss!!! The lakers were playing all night long like the Hawks were gonna give to them the victory! They did not deserve to win this game! When a team is the underdog, they play their a** off! The Lakers were like... we have control of this! then at the end.... they got knocked out! just the way they should
Posted by: Laker critic | February 06, 2008 at 06:29 PM
Oh, well. Back to backs are always tough.
Let's hope that Milwaukee and New Orleans help us out.
Posted by: mel | February 06, 2008 at 06:30 PM
Odom played great
Gasol looketd tired
Kobey 2 horrible games in a row
other than that lakers looked ok on a back to back on the road the legs seemed to go in the forth quater
Posted by: shneurson | February 06, 2008 at 06:30 PM
Win as a team, lose as a team. Things are still looking up. Kobe's not gonna have a gimpy finger forever. His shot is falling, this game isn't close.
Posted by: Jesterguru | February 06, 2008 at 06:31 PM
Kobe had 2 excellent games and now he just finished his 2 really poor game in a row...and the end of the game...oh well ,life's a bitch you know.Hope to see major improvement though;)
Posted by: | February 06, 2008 at 06:31 PM
WTF was that??? We should not be losing to teams like Atlanta...we looked a step slow tonight...
Posted by: acjunglist702 | February 06, 2008 at 06:31 PM
What the heck kind of 4th was that.. Kobe had a bad game -- o well.. we'll get the next one.
GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: David Whang | February 06, 2008 at 06:31 PM
this game sucked. probably good overall. brought us back down to earth. pau had a very mediocre game. kobe was way off(but ill blame it on his hand), sasha had a mental breakdown. only bright spot really was vlads 1st quarter shooting (dont think the announcers said his name in the second half) and lamar had another solid effort. cant get too mad over the non offensive foul call on joe johnson cause we got the ball on a bad play a minute before.
kobe deperately needs his hand to be ok, with out kobe as a threat and without bynum were not looking too good. hopefully kobe will be somewhat back to normal by friday.
GO LAKERS

I'm a firm believer that you learn more from losses than wins.
Well this is as they say, an encyclopedia of knowledge.
First lesson, DON"T LET UP! We let up, we let Ty Lue look like Jordan for crying out loud. And, we lagged on rebounds and transition D. Disappointing but not disconcerning.
We can bounce back, provided we learn from this.
Go Lakers!
Posted by: Faith | February 06, 2008 at 06:31 PM
Tyron frickin Lue.
Posted by: Amazing_Happens | February 06, 2008 at 06:32 PM
No, don't be so hard on Sasha Faith. I blame the overall effort of the team for this loss...
I'm real happy with Sasha this year.
