Real time game thread- Lakers at Hawks
February 6, 2008 | 4:06
pm
It's the second go round for Pau Gasol as a Laker, and a potential trap game for his new team. The Hawks are all bouncy and young, and run around a lot. They've also just capped off a 4-11 January. Still, they've won two straight, and are 14-9 at home. All in all, it's a game the Lakers should win, but they need to pay attention.
Remember, KCAL viewers, stay away from this one. And the Internet in general, until 5:30.

SHADES OF RICK FOX!!!
You know, I'm not as big a critic of Luke Walton as some on this blog. HOWEVER...
I also don't think that him trying to create shots of the dribble is his game, and that's NOT what I want to see from him.
I just watched him try a behind-the-back dribble into the lane, which nearly resulted in a turnover, and instead -- PAU!! -- he got bailed out by Gasol.
Then, the next time he touched the ball, he dribbled into traffic and botched the play miserably.
It reminds me of Rick Fox, once he the arrival of Kobe moved him to the bench. He used to try and do more than he was able to, trying to measure up or something. It was horrible to watch.
Luke... same body type, same physical/athletic limitations, even the same flippy, curly hair... I could have sworn I was watching Rick Fox just now!
I was NOT loving it...

can we pry marion for odom?

Guys, it looks like Showtime's back.
Wow.
Super-good.
GO LAKERS!

i'm a fan of kobe.... but i admit that LB is more gifted than Kobe... but it doesn't mean that LB is better than Kobe...
LB has a big body.... and he moves like Kobe...he will be unstoppable... but who Kobe is makes him a the better player hi is his tenacity... his will... couple by his god-given talents and skills... mixed it up with unquestionable work ethic and dedication to the game...
we all know the his past... some would have cowered in shame... but he fought it and guess what... he had the kids chant his name again...
until LB could fight odds as heavy as Kobe did... i would consider LB better than Kobe...
Posted by: sque | February 06, 2008 at 04:58 PM
fisher is filling it up
we are 7/11 in the three point line
simply amazing

LE BALL MOVEMENT is B-E-A-yoo-tiful!
Bynum's return is going to cut down the Opposing FG% a few notches.
The Lakers look like Phoenix, except without one guy (Nash) dominating the ball. So nice. So nice.
Posted by: Amazing_Happens | February 06, 2008 at 04:59 PM
Childress looks like a clown !
Posted by: Ando | February 06, 2008 at 05:00 PM
A little late but wassup Laker peoples.
Sasha's finally getting back into his groove. I don't care if he misses, he has to keep jacking them up.
Posted by: Bynumite | February 06, 2008 at 05:00 PM
Rick was our defensive enforcer though. And he made himself proficient with the 3 ball.

Show-Pau!
Posted by: Faith | February 06, 2008 at 05:04 PM
Wow. The shooters are looking wide open...
Good for us.

da Fish!
Posted by: Faith | February 06, 2008 at 05:05 PM
Luke is DEFINITELY NOT like Rick Fox. Rick could shoot the ball from long range and was a good defender.
Posted by: Tsiry | February 06, 2008 at 05:08 PM
Lots of Laker fans in Atlanta.
Did Kobe just say B****? after he missed his Freethrow?
Posted by: Bynumite | February 06, 2008 at 05:08 PM
K, so I just saw a close-up of Walton... and I take back what I said about the curly, floppy hair.
Whatever... he still looked like Rick Fox...
UGH.... **SHUDDERS**

Phil came up with a lineup of guys who can all knock down threes : Fisher - Vujacic - Kobe - Radman - Pau

YOU EVER NOTICE
Is it just me or....
After watching the news conference about the Shaq trade... and listening and obseving the facial expressions of the interviews with DAntoni and Nash...
Seems to me that's there's not alot of conviction there.
Posted by: YOU EVER NOTICE | February 06, 2008 at 05:13 PM
I'm thinking we need a nickname for this era of Lakers.
We had Showtime.
We had the Shaq-Kobe era (which never received a proper moniker).
Now we have the Kobe-Kung-Pau-Bynum-Great Second Unit Lakers.
They need a collective moniker.
I'm thinking "The GOTIME Lakers!" What do you guys think?
GO LAKERS!

Ando,
To me Childress reminds me of one of the Cosby Kids,
you know Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids... was it Rudy?
or maybe Old Weird Harold?
Go Lakers!
Posted by: Bzar | February 06, 2008 at 05:15 PM
We are now a rock band- Lamar Odom
They are probably being mobbed at every arena they go. I think Fish said "Yeah, we are getting there". In fact Odom said they are now like the Beatles of the NBA!
We love you yeah, yeah, yeah
We love you yeah, yeah yeah
With a team like that, we know we shoooouuulllld
be gald, yeah, yeah yeah.

Pau calling Kobe a great leader in an interview w KLAC.
Posted by: mel | February 06, 2008 at 05:21 PM
tall-time?
We are playing tall ball.
Posted by: Faith | February 06, 2008 at 05:21 PM
I'm trying to imagine Gunner's frustration. Kobe's had 0 turnovers in spite of taped fingers that definitely seem to be bothering his shot (including free throws).
What's the matter with the Kobe? He owes it to the blog to turn the ball over at least five times per half. It's too quiet here without the repetitive ravings of the local drunk.
Com'on Kobe, show us your true colors in the second half!
Posted by: Tsphere | February 06, 2008 at 05:22 PM
GoTime Lakers... ain't bad.. hehehe... GoTime may be good
Posted by: sque | February 06, 2008 at 05:22 PM
Lamar finally feeling a little bit of what Marion felt.
No one paying attention to you, and you're dominating.
Posted by: Faith | February 06, 2008 at 05:28 PM
Well...
Preliminary results on Odom as 3rd-4th option is…
Sherry and giggles!
He's found a home.

Gasol's weakness may be a Laker boon.
Not being a traditional center, having a nice jumper, being mobile and agile and able to slash and pass and run makes me think he'll fit nicely beside Bynum...
Wes

Is it just me or they seem sluggish. I knoiw it is a b2b but if Fish is not producing, we might be in a bind. Kobe seems to be missing his js.
Come on guys. Time to pull away. Go go go.
Posted by: Lakergurl | February 06, 2008 at 05:41 PM
there's a pass for all the luke fans
Posted by: phred | February 06, 2008 at 05:44 PM
When Bynum gets back we're going to give teams fits. Three players who require the double team surrounded by players who can shoot or go hard to the basket. Wow.
Get well Socks!
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: Jon K. | February 06, 2008 at 05:44 PM
Did the Hawks just double team Walton? Luke Walton???
Posted by: Tsiry | February 06, 2008 at 05:44 PM
Why to finish the quarter strong. No worse for the wear.
Posted by: mel | February 06, 2008 at 05:45 PM
Way to finish the quarter.
Posted by: mel | February 06, 2008 at 05:45 PM
LO is ballin with his new found teammate/helpmate
10 bucks sez LO is gonna shave that silly star in the back of his head
Posted by: CBuck | February 06, 2008 at 05:45 PM
Yeah, the defense could be better, but I'll take what we have if it means our shooters keep getting wide, wide, WIDE open looks.

KOBIATCH
3 FOR 11 SHOOTING
THERE'S NOTHING ELSE NEEDED TO BE SAID!
HE'S DEFINITELY NOT MVP MATERIAL. BUT THANKS TO GASOL, KOBE HAS FOUND HIS PLACE AGAIN.
ON THE COAT TAILS OF GASOL!!!
Posted by: Gunner | February 06, 2008 at 05:47 PM
Luke Walton's +12 right now.
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: Jon K. | February 06, 2008 at 05:47 PM
Kobe's got nine assists and no turnover.
Posted by: Tsiry | February 06, 2008 at 05:48 PM
LAKER PHAT GURL,
"Kobe seems to be missing his js."
WHAT GAME HAVE YOU BEEN WATCHING? KOBE BEEN MISSING HIS JS FOR 2 GAMES NOW!!!
DROP THE BOTTLE.
Posted by: Gunner | February 06, 2008 at 05:49 PM
Mel,
"Fish is saving their you know whats right now."
And maybe Lamar too. This is when Kobe is struggling. (maybe because of that finger injury).
Now that is you call depth. Look how balance the scoring is.
This is a TEAM.
Go LAKERS!
