None of his suggestions include Kurt Thomas
Which works out well, since he just got dealt to the Spurs for Brent Barry and Francisco "Weirdo" Elson. Thus, all of Bill Simmons' proposed "11th Hour" NBA deals could still come to fruition. The Sports Guy doesn't throw out any swaps involving your Los Angeles Lakers (which should end up mirroring reality, since I'm pretty convinced they'll stand pat post-Pau), but his trades would shape many of the teams the Purple and Gold will face come playoff time. At any rate, Simmons is always entertaining and this can help you kill the next 40 or so minutes before the big showdown.
Enjoy.

Relax...Do not worry, suns run on solar power, not Disel. The Lakers run on Water Power and will quench the suns tonight and forever more.

so obvious they got him to help defend against Pau and Bynum.

GO LAKERS!!!! Where's the game thread??? Where's FLEA?? Are you ready to rumble?
God Bless Shaq for all he did for the Lakers. But lets run him dry. Gasol can eaaaasily out run him down the floor, get position, shoot and SCORE!!!!
GO LAKERS!!!!

Love these trades. All these teams are at their peak this year and declining. Lakers haven't even tapped their maximum potentiial. What Lakers have is a dynasty for the next 10 years.

There's a Lunar Eclipse tonight at 7 ish Pacific Time. It's almost a perfect metaphor for the Lakes to eclipse the Suns. Too bad it's not a solar eclipse. Then the metaphor would have been perfect!

I expected the Spurs to make a move. They are in trouble as many of their key contributors are aging rapidly. Horry and Bowen are not what they were. Even Duncan is showing less and less lift on his shots.
One of the Spurs" most consistent strategies has always been to pair Duncan with another big. Robinson, Nesterovic, Elson, and now Thomas. They have always given Tim someone to do the dirty work and have been able to limit Duncan's minutes during the regular season.
Before Bynum's injury and the acquisition of Pau, trading Kwame Brown for Kurt Thomas was discussed heavily on this blog. I thought that it was a great idea at the time. Fortunately, the fates conspired to give The Show Senor Gasol instead.
Good move for the Spurs. But I don't think it makes them better than a Laker team at full strength.
GO LAKERS!!!!

Mob W,
So there will be no moon, and no Suns, but the Lakers stars will still shine.

I am so glad this trade was made because it means the rumored Barry/Elson package for Artest isn't happening.
The thought of Artest on the Spurs made me curl up in the fetal position and whimper. Kurt Thomas doesn't have the same effect on me.
Let's get them Suns!!!

I've got to admit Shaq looks slim. Let's see if he can move on D, though.

Kurt Thomas to San Antonio is the one deal I feared........for the Lakers
An excellent acquisition for the Spurs..........this may put them on par with the Lakers to reach the finals
I wished the Lakers could have picked up Thomas

Pfunk,
This would mark the rare occasion we're in total agreement. I would have loved the Lakers to have picked up Thomas. Unfortunately, the only real chip they could have offered would have been Kwame's expiring contract, which went for Pau (and in the long run, clearly helps the Lakers more). I don't think the Lakers could have swung another deal for Kurt. Too bad, because I agree, he could really help SA.

Great deal for SA. Perfect player for them.

There is absolutely no reason for Luke Walton to be in this game.........Phil Jackson and his love for Walton will destroy this team

Andrew Z,
I had the exact same sigh of relief that the Spurs didn't trade for Artest but Thomas will help them. Nobody is going to stop the Lakers this year.
Finally, Welcome to the Lakers 2008 Championship Bandwagon. I think by default we are now signing up the entire blog community. Let the few fools who don't want to ride sign up to have their names removed. Otherwise, the list would get too damn big. LOL.

The trade ofr Kurt Thomas by the Spurs is another repercussion of the Spanish Acquisition, a desperate move by a rival conference team.
