Farmer Farmar

February 29, 2008 |  9:41 am

Jordan_farmar_dribbles_against_miam Cultivating career games, Jordan Farmar is, while the Lakers harvest win after win.

Farmar, fresh off a 21 point game in Tuesday's win against Portland came back Thursday night with a career high 24, as the Lakers rolled over the Heat 106-88 at Staples.  The second year PG's efforts were just part of yet another true group effort for the L.A., who led wire to wire for their tenth straight win. Kobe scored a little, at least by his standards (21 points), and distributed a lot (seven dimes), and his block of a Shawn Marion dunk attempt to end the third was one of the better highlights the Lakers have had this season, which is saying something since times are pretty rosy.  But, as the box shows, the Lakers had contributions up and down the lineup.  A quiet 13/11 for Pau Gasol.  13/11/6 for L.O.  9/11/4 for Luke Walton, and 12 points off the bench for Sasha.  No wonder the Lakers are quickly becoming an aspirational model for the league's downtrodden

The Lakers have, and continue to, refuse to put a date on Andrew Bynum's return, but that doesn't mean folks can't look ahead to what Gasol's adjustment to taking over the four might look like.  While the Lakers aren't doing a lot of formal work to prepare him for the position change, some of their routines will help Gasol make the switch.

The Lakers will look to make it 11 straight tonight in Portland, where things are never easy.  L.A. has lost four straight at the Rose Garden, but on the other hand, it's been a while since they brought a team this good into the building.  Portland All Star Brandon Roy is likely to miss Friday's game (as he did Tuesday's) with an ankle sprain, thought the Blazers could have sharpshooter James Jones back in the lineup.  Here are some handy little numbers to tuck in your pocket regarding the scrap.

Avery Johnson's decision to keep J. Kidd on the bench for the final seconds of Dallas' loss to S.A. last night raised some eyebrows

Gordon Giricek could soon be a Sun.  That likely depends on what Brent Barry decides to do.  Phoenix could be fun, but the Spurs are still a strong player

An interesting story about the power of blogs these days.  We give it a month before it's a Law and Order storyline.

SEA MINERAL WATER ANYONE?

hmmmm.. I am wondering if it is the sea mineral water that makes Lakers so awesome? Wonder who can answer this question.

LAKERS are awesome and will rule the NBA for next decade with Kobe at the helm and first mate Pau and Bynum as a deck hand...!!

And do not forget the best management team that Lakers have, simply the best organization, class act!!

Last but not least the Laker FANS are very knowledgeable, except they slice and dice with their knives at the drop off their hat when it comes to Luke and Odom. Luckily for us Laker observers/fans the Laker staff/coaches have a different opinion/view when it comes to Luke & Odom. In PJ’s own word Luke is a very valuable member and I concur with the maestro. However, I understand Fans wear their emotions in their sleeves and are entitled to hack and chop at will.

LAKERS RULE SUPREME!!

THIS IS HOW I HEARD CHRIS MIHM THE OTHER DAY:

Mihm was singin like:

This is why I’m hot
This is why uh
This is why I’m hot (uh)
This is why I’m hot whoo
This is why
This is why I’m hot

I’m hot coz I’m lasy(easy)
You ain’t coz you’re not (mihm)
This is why
This is why I’m hot

This is why I’m hot
I dont gotta play
I can get a mill not doing nothing on the court
I represent the Lakers
I got it on my Chest
And they say that we lost it
So I’mma bring it back
I love the injury injury
Coz players show me no love
The fans start to bounce
As soon as I hit the court
But in the WC (West conference)
They love to take it hard
So when I hit the C
I watch you leavin the floor (arena)
And if you needed hyphy
I take it to the bay
Frisco to San Antonio town
They do it eryday
Coppin a Hollywood
As soon as I hit LA
I’m in that low low
I do it the Kwame Brown way
And when I hit ATL
People say that I’m fly
They like the way I lay they like (they like my) my attire
move fans from side to side
They ask me how I do it and simply I reply

This is why I’m hot
Catch me on the block
Every other day
Another fan another drop
31 bars, 24 pop one million fans gimme what you got
I’m in there getting rebounds
Push them off the paint
I’m into shutting players down so I can play
If you need a prove I can get it when I get back
Tell me what you need you know I get ‘em by the ....
I call my hommie Brown meet me on the bench
I hit wash heights with the money in the bag
we into big injuries
See my coach never complain
Find me with different injuries that you fans never had
For those who say they know me know I’m focused on my check
Playa you come between you’d better focus on the bean (Bryant)
I keep it so feen the way you see me lean
And when I say I’m hot my fans this is what I mean

This is why I’m hot!

Classic

If King Kong is sent to the bench, I would take " The Machines over our starters...

Farmar, Sasha, Ariza, Turiaf, Bynum

vs

Kobe, Fish, Luke, Pau, Odom.

Next year the starters come off the bench...Our bench is better than most teams in the NBA. Sick!!

BD

AK/BK, I posted this before in a different blog entry, but I don't recall receiving a reply.

On the TNT show, there is a likeness of a ball player that very much resembles KOBE in a basketall move. I am almost 100% certain it's him, though I cannot recall what game that likeness was taken. If you know what I am referring to, (DEF not the LOGO pic but the only OTHER basketball likeness picture they use)

Thanks!!

Charles,

This response was brilliant...

"Blingbling,
I love you back!"

That's the way to treat a baiting troll. If you give them the reaction they want....they win.

But we all know you are the winner!

Good Afternoon Blog Family!!!

No great achievement in knocking off Miami, but the style and hard work are to be commended.

The most interesting thing for me last night was the extended minutes with Lamar, Ronny and Pau on the floor. This was the first look I think we've had at our "Three Towers" alignment. Clearly, we can't play that line up against teams like Portland and Phoenix (when Shaq is on the bench) or we'll get run off the floor, but it is likely to be very effective against the Spurs and Dallas and their more traditional lineups. And it seemed to work well...Ronny was the enforcer, allowing Pau to play his speed and finesse game. A nice natural fit.

Bynum definitely needs to come off the bench for the playoffs unless we want to start with this Three Tower lineup against a specific team. And he won't have a problem as a sub....Remember his impatience before was because he had to play behind KWAME, and that surely was a slap to his confidence/ego. Playing behind Pau will not bother him at all, especially after watching the team play so well, he'll just be eager to contribute in any way he can.

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

I think Lakers will be better prepared today to play Portland, and first of all, they already played this team, they know what to expect.

My only concern is a back to back and Kobe played last night 40 min. I hope Fish going to find his touch, because I noticed last night when ball is not falling for him he started to rush things, like going against entire defense and ultimately causing 2 TO in the span of 1 minute.

Oh Wow!

I was just on ESPN reading Adande's responses to MVP questions. Unbelievable, Adande basically says he's going with Lebron because the Cavs lost 6 straight games without him. He's more valuable to his team than Kobe, cause Kobe has Bynum and now Gasol. Huh???

Are you kidding me. Steve Nash had Shawn Marion, Amare, barbosa, Dirk had Howard, Stackhouse, Terry, etc. and they still won MVP.

Man what a bunch of crap!

They don't want to give Kobe an MVP, and regardless of how he meets all the standards for the award they will not acknowledge that he's been the MVP for several seasons not just this one. I'll give the baseball writers their due. They hated Bonds but it didn't stop them from acknowledging his greatest (even if it was roid assisted).

Troy and Laker Lover

Regarding Luke, you say "now Luke has had a good game, injuries aren't an excuse" - or something like that...

That's missing the point. Luke's play has been improved since the All-Star Break, when he had 5 days off to sit and get treatment 24 hours a day (TNT was talking about this, PJ has mentioned it), so he is feeling somewhat better now, which PROVES the point that his injuries are holding him back. But with every game, he will not get healthier, he will wear down more, because injuries that are not allowed to completely heal get worse with wear and tear. (This is why they want to give Andrew more time than he might actually need, so he is better than 100% when he returns.)

Especially ankle injuries. I badly sprained my ankle in league a year and a half ago and it has only completely healed recently. I would play for awhile, then have to rest it for a few weeks because while it was healing, it was also causing swelling and discomfort to play on it. It affected my defense and my shot, because I could not plant and jump the same why I was accustomed to my whole life. It's very frustrating.

What you are seeing is a glimpse of what a healthy, confident Luke can offer, but he cannot get completely healthy until next year unless he doesn't play at all. The Lakers need him right now, so that's not happening. He is a WARRIOR for us right now, not a superstar, and that's a vital component to any championship team.

Anyway, that's my Luke Defense for the day...LOL.

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

Regarding Fish...

Remember early in the season how high his shot was arcing, it was almost ridiculous the splash down....that is all gone now and his shot is suffering because of it. Is he injured? Tired? Not sure, but he is not getting the same lift.

Still, he is an unquestioned leader and incredibly important piece to the chemistry of this team, so the calls for Farmar to start are premature. Patience grasshopper.

KOBE FOR MVP!!!

BD,

If you look at the "machines," it's sort of like a poor man's San Antonio:
Bynum = poor man's Duncan
Sasha = poor man's Ginobli
Farmar= poor man's Parker

Obviously "poor man's" does not mean equal to, it means similar in style but inferior. Still, to have a poor man's San Antonio for your bench is quite impressive.

Elle,

I want to go on record as saying I think DFish is one of the main reasons this squad has come together so nicely. He is a class guy and great in the locker room.

But at the risk of being flamed like you did to Orange, I too have been thinking about swapping Fish and Farmar in the starting lineup for a couple of weeks.

My thinking is:
Fish is older.....would be fresher in the playoffs playing 20 minutes a game.

Fish is somewhat inconsistant. Less minutes might help this.

Farmar is young and blossoming. Why not give him some more time?

Fish came off the bench last year for Utah, and did very well.

The only down side I can see is "Messing with the current chemistry."
I don't really think this would be a problem though.

What's everyone think?

Fan of the Mamba,

I agree with you wholeheartedly. But... realize there's 24 more games. By that time, it may become even MORE obvious about who the MVP really is.

Nash & Garnett = the only MVPs in the history of the game to NEVER visit the NBA finals.

What has happened to this award? Does it mean anything anymore? If yes, then it's time for the writer's to ATONE for their sins.

I don't know if BK or AK will confirm this but Adande and Shaq were BFFs back in the day. Before and since Shaq left, Adande has always had a stick up his a$$ about Kobe.

"Oh Wow!

I was just on ESPN reading Adande's responses to MVP questions. Unbelievable, Adande basically says he's going with Lebron because the Cavs lost 6 straight games without him. He's more valuable to his team than Kobe, cause Kobe has Bynum and now Gasol. Huh???

So my girlfriend and I were watching the game last night....

She was rockin' the Farmar jersey I bought her for Christmas...

Then two things really significant happened......

1) She saw that Kobe-Luke-Lamar play and was just completely blown away. For the first time ever she really saw how amazing basketball can be and the magic of SHOWTIME!!!!

2) She retracted all her negative statements about Kobe not being a team player and being her least favorite player on the team. When I said Kobe is "God's gift to basketball", she politely nodded her head.

The only real things I care about in this world are my family, my friends, my spirituality, my music, world peace, the environment, and The Los Angeles Lakers!!!!!!!!

Avery Johnson...

Maybe not the best X's and O's guy, huh?

He is certainly intense and a good "floor general", but he is the anti-Phil Jackson.

- He's a control freak who does nothing to teach his players how to succeed on their own.

- He got OWNED by Nellie in the playoffs last year, especially considering how easily Utah took care of business in the next round (4-1)

- He keeps Jason Kidd out of the game at the end after they mortgaged their future to get him? WHA????? He's supposed to be their hope? I wish I was a fly on the wall when Cuban talked to him after the game...
"Cuban: Uh Avery, I just ate another $10 million to make that trade, plus I'm gonna have to give him an extension, AND YOU USE KIDD AS A CHEERLEADER!!!!"

- Dirk is a great player, but he has not progressed at all under Avery - maybe Dirk';s fault, maybe not, but Avery does not INSPIRE CONFIDENCE in his players.

Mavs fans must be in shock after the way that game ended.

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

I like the idea of referring to the second unit collectively as "THE MACHINE!"

Ronny could be "The Terminator"

Farmar could be "The Transformer" (transforms the game).

Sasha could be "The Cuisinar" (he slices, he dices).

What do you guys think?

GO LAKERS!

MVP- the give it to anyone but Kobe award.

MVP-the make any excuses so that Kobe doesn't get it award.

Eric M,

I think Fish should stay in the starting lineup, but his minutes should be cut a bit.

The second unit (aka "The Machine") play to a different rhythm when lead by Farmar. I don't want to break up that chemistry.

GO LAKERS!

Fan of the Mamba,

It really sucks the way KB is disrespected by many people. They will think of anything to not award his greatness.

First he had a bad team and scored 30-50 every night and was the only reason we won 40 games rather than 20, so they said, "He doesn't make his team better. Also, He isn't on a good team. My MVP has to be on a winning team." (ex. Nash)

Now he is on the best team in the west and it's changed to "He has a great team, Kobe isn't doing that much."

He can't win. I just think there are a lot of people who regardless of innocence, still think of Colorado. I think there are people who will never forget this.

Also, the Shaq/Kobe breakup, and the off season "Trade me" demand pissed off a lot of people.

We'll just have to hope that someday he does get his due respect.

Eric M,

Interesting argument, but I think it could be seen the other way...

Fisher is older..and more experienced. Those 3 RINGS will mean the most in the playoffs when the PRESSURE RISES. Fish still leads the team in assist/turnover ratio, the most important stat for a point guard.

Farmar is young and blossoming...and so you keep him in that role. PJ has no problem with Farmar being the guy on the court at the end of games if he's the hot hand, but Fish is your starter and leader.

Fish came off the bench behind Deron Williams....I love Farmar but right now he is no Deron, and probably never will be. It's POSSIBLE now, which is a testament to how far he's come in one season, but history says that's an awfully big leap to make...

Chemistry is hard to come by. Fish is a big reason why. Again, Farmar was itching to start last year because he was stuck behind Smush...Fisher is Jordan's mentor, they sit together on the plane, talk about life, investments, marriage, etc. No problem backing up Fish. It's actually giving him confidence and a role he knows. Don't mess with it.

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

Eric M, I wonder about Farmar starting right now, I don't think he is quite yet ready. He has been willing to make the contributions off the bench without hesitation that's for sure. To me, Jordan has more of a shoot-first mentality, same with Sasha, though Sasha seems to be more of a willing passing/playmaker than Jordan. Jordan seems more interested in getting himself off, and not really looking to make plays for others unless its Andrew. I don't recall ever seeing him get the ball into Pau. And if cannot make a play, he sometimes forces his shot Overall, I think his playmaking will get better over time.

Faith,

SOOOOOOOOO TRUE!

2006 - "His team isn't good enough!"
2007 - "He doesn't make his teammates better!" (smush, kwame, cook, etc)
2008 - "His team's too good!"

WHAT A JOKE!!!

I don't think the award should be given on reputation, but since it has been done that way for AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, how about giving it to the player everyone acknowledges is the BEST IN THE GAME!!! Should NBA history really reflect 0 MVPs for Kobe after 2 for Nash. OMG I just made myself sick typing that.

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

Tim 4 Show, Faith, Adande Spy and Eric M,

That's why it pays to have laker family. They feel your pain and they're the smartest damn people on the planet!

Go Lakers!
Go Kobe!

Adande Spy you are so right. I forgot how bad Adande dissed Kobe after the Kobe/Shaq break-up.

It's a shame. The best player in the game will end his career probably without a single MVP.

Shame on the NBA and the media/voters.

Kobe needs 44 points tonight to set the ALL-TIME RECORD for points scored on LEAP DAY. Another RECORD BOOK entry for Kobe????

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

Looking forward to seeing this linuep:

Bynum

The Lakers version of "small ball".

Posted by: hobbitmage | February 29, 2008 at 10:21 AM

i will call that the lakers version of "Big Small Ball"

AN 1,

>>>Kobe brushed back the net, which could have easily
>>>effected the ball going through, even though in this
>>>case it didn't.

Technically, touching the net, the rim, or the backboard once
the shot is on its way down is goaltending. So really it doesn't
matter if Kobe knocked the ball out of the rim or not. Just the
act of touching the net while the ball was in the cylinder
made it goaltending.

But it made up for the fact that the called questionable
fouls on two blocks by Ronny.

Eric M, if these media PHUKKAZ are still holding Colorado over KB24's head, then screw them. That is just an excuse to have an excuse to EXCUSE themselves from giving Kobe his propers! That only motivates him to play the best, and be the best and at the end of the day. I feel that when Kobe is done with the game, if HE will be able to look in the mirror and be satisfied with way in which he played and approached the game, and that he was a champion and never cheated basketball, then I think he will be happy. He plays for championships, not MVPs. Some people take offense to someone who aspires to be great at what they do because they cannot fathom the same for themselves as they lack the wherewithall to do so. They are jealous and envious individuals and people like that never appreciate the greatness in anyone. They are too busy focusing their energies on something negative. Because regardless of what Kobe does on the court, they will always seek to find any reason to despise him for being so truly gifted.

Korey,

“So I guess the "Bynum off the Bench" faction was right on this one.
Until Bynum gets back to full strength, we will bring him in slowly.”

How Hillary of you, Korey. LOL. Create your little victories whenever and wherever you can. It’s all OK. None of us wants to throw Andrew into the starting lineup until he is fully recovered and ready to go, although there are a few misguided souls out there who think that Pau is a better and more valuable player at center than Andrew. It might be different if the team were not playing so well but there’s no reason to rush Andrew at this point. But bottom line, Andrew will start at center as soon as he is healthy.

The “Start Bynum” faction, as you have apparently designated those of us who recognize that, despite how great Pau has been playing, Andrew Bynum is still the key to the Lakers winning the championship, have always contended that Bynum should return to the starting lineup as soon as he is fully recovered and ready to go, which is really exactly what Phil himself is saying. I believe that is what you are saying. You’re actually part of the ”Start Bynum” faction but you just didn’t realize it. JK. Andrew brings the rebounding and defense that we have been lacking with just Pau at center.

------------------

“I think Phil also realizes that we can't stunt Odom's growth by changing his position and then all of a sudden depend on a injured player for pre-injury production.”

With all due respect, that may have crossed Phil’s mind but I doubt that it is a factor. We traded for Pau to play the 4 along side Drew, not to replace him in the starting lineup. As soon as Drew is healthy, he takes over center because he is a better defender and rebounder and can only play that position. At that point, Pau becomes our starting power forward and first backup of Drew at center. And Lamar becomes the starting 3, even though he will also play a lot of 4.

As for worries about Lamar being able to play small forward, I think Phil and the staff are becoming less and less concerned about that as Lamar’s play has improved. While he is still primarily playing power forward, the plays Lamar is making are the same plays that he will be able to make playing small forward – diving and driving hard to the rim and posting up smaller defenders who are trying to guard him. Add in the factor that Lamar will still be playing major time at power forward backing up Pau when he goes to the bench or takes over the center position.

Anyway, that’s my take on the Drew/Pau/Lamar front line. It will become a reality and a dominating force in the league. It still contend, though, that our secret weapon will be our 3-guard set with Kobe moving up to the 3 to enable Farmar and Sasha to play the 1 and 2. The firepower that this lineup has displayed tells me we will see a lot more of this in every game from now on. We have so many different looks to throw at other teams that we could spend months debating the variations and implications. And that’s all we are doing right now. And to think, 6 months ago…

Tom

Kobe is on his way to winning it..Dont worry, the media will be pressured to make him the MVP if the Lakers remain 1st in the west..It's between him and Garnett.

Perfect scenario...Kobe gets snubbed for the MVP by one of the Leastern Conference favorites (KG OR Lebron)...

Lakers get to the Final's against the winner of the MVP awards team and the Lakers win the chip with Kobe walking away with Finals MVP!!!

Priceless!!

Frank Rizzo et al.....

Of course, if the doctor says he cannot play then he won't play but don't treat a 20 year old a baby! It is mind over matter. If you can run around the swimming pool then you can do some running on the court.

If you are the doctors of Bynum, with all your pronostications and preventions, he will still be in bed after the Olympics....."don't do this, don't do that,.....you're weak...my baby, Socks". Have you not heard of Willis Reed of the Knicks 1969-70 or Isiah Thomas 1988-89 Detroit Pistons? I'm not saying Socks will play in that manner but STOP treating him as a baby. The more you motivate him to play, the more that injury heals faster. It's mind over matter. I kept on reading here in this blog, "oh we don't have to play Bynum, Pau & Kobe can handle it." NO! they are just forcing themselves to handle the precarious situation. They too are playing hurt but they just keep on playing. Have you not heard of Pau Gasol injuries after the FIBA games and he was unavailable early this year? Have you not heard of Kobe's ribs and that torn ligament that many of you want it to have surgically repaired just few weeks ago? Is he complaining? NO, he makes the best deal out of the situation. The purpose of my post is TO WAKE UP EVERYONE, there is an objective on hand, get up and work! Don't depend of Kobe-Pau combo deal.

Lakers is a prized possession of Los Angeles, we have the best hospitals in town from Centinela Clinic, to UCLA, USC, Cedar Sinai, the best orthopedic surgeons and rehab specialists are all available. If our objective is Championship, you can't just rely on Gary Vitti, there are tons of hospitals around you ready to assist. The problem with you guys, you are acting as if you live in small town, taking care a Hossier's high school team .... We are the Lakers, get the best treatment in this metropolitan city because we are at WAR!.

DrewPauKobe,

"This response was brilliant..."
Thank you and I wasn't in blog debate mood too.

I honestly feel that most of the other fans refutes were poorly done. I couldn't quantify or validate their reasons.

I don't know if you have seen my last post to them or him/her, but I closed my door.

About Fisher. I am more concerned about minute management; over who is starting. Just like the earlier debates in November, I don't mind Drew starting or coming off the bench. Same goes for #4. I believe it's all about the closing unit playing the best ball for that game.

By the way, the DrewPauKobe name suggests that you maybe a new poster. Did you post under another name?

Regards

AK/BK,

Have you had many complaints about not being able to connect to the site or getting a lots of unable to connect errors when you try to return to the site? It got so bad with me that I now right mouse click and open link in new page so I don’t get kicked out of blog. I have seen this kind of problem from other sites in my business whose servers cannot keep up with the requests. Anyway, just thought you might want to let your IT guys know.

And you definitely are going to need to hire a reader to help you stay on top of the posts as we near and go into the playoffs. Most of us are already so hyped that we have already found and read all of the posts in Extra Extra by the time you post it. Not complaining there, because you do get the stuff up very fast but we need quicker and more frequent updating of the posts. You need to hire a helper, maybe somebody like Charles who is independently wealthy and available 24/7. jk, Charles.

Anyway, seriously, this thing is getting too big right now for the blog not to have a full-time monitor. Charles, do you need a job?

Tom

JustaLakerFan,

Thanks for the response.

You really think the socks are for support? They don't look like 'leggings' or 'sleeves' that would offer support, just socks. I think it's just a fashion thing, as someone else said, maybe a way to draw attention to the new sneakers.

No I am not sure. He has used them before and the look I got yesterday was a pc link Janernation or something like that an the graphics were really bad. So I will take a better look tonight as the game is going to be telecast locally on KCAL Channel 9. I will let you all know what I see then. Very possible I am wrong.

Bzar,

thanks for that info! pretty interesting!

i agree. farmar is a little bit hectic .... and he still wants to prove himself

LakerTom,

There has definately been a problem with the site stability today. I've had to kill my browser twice today to be able to connect.

Regarding the need for the blog to have a "Helper" for the times AK/BK are busy or driving or whatever, that doesn't seem to be an option. I have seen many others request this including myself and I have never seen AK/BK respond to this issue.

Nothing KILLS a blog faster than 3 hours of dead time between refreshing.

START-FARMAR BANDWAGON?

Not this year. Fish will rebound from his slump but Farmar will get equal minutes and whoever is hot will close out the game. Never dis Fish! Never!

This from the Founder of the Start Farmar Bandwagon.

Next year, however, all bets are off and Farmar will really challenge Fish to start.

Go, Lakers. Let's match that 11-game streak.

Tom

Laker Tom,

Laker Tom,

I actually work 8-5 as a Marketing Manger for a Communications Vendor in Sherman Oaks, Host a Radio Show on Saturdays on Sirius, and Do Voice over work for affiliate stations K-Abc. Not to mention I ran my own indie label www.concretegrooves.com and go to Physical Therapy from 6-7 pm 4 times during the work week.

I will say this, I find that comment of me being "independently wealthy and available 24/7" a little obtuse. I may not be wealthy but I do have astronomical Medical Bills, hence leading me to have three sources of income.

You post just as much if not more than I do. (And so do other senior bloggers) I understand that you are one of the elder bloggers here and you are retired? Maybe you can be the sidekick since you have to right mouse click and open link in new page so you don’t get kicked out of the blog.

Charles,

I have been reading the blog for a couple years now. Been a Laker fan since I was a kid but grew up in Cincinnati...had no NBA team there, but I loved the Lakers from the start of my b-ball days. Also of course I was an MJ fan, then moved to Chicago in '88 and got to watch that happen first hand. I was tortured by the 91 Finals. But it was a good torture. :) Then I moved to NYC in 98, and here to LA in 2000, just in time to follow PJ here for his 3rd 3-peat...I honestly believe there's some fate in my fandom, what with my first favorite player Magic handing off the reigns to my second favorite player MIchael in 91, then Michael retiring and Kobe taking over as his heir...and now it seems to be happening all over again...I am on cloud 9 (basketball-wise) right now.

I have posted in the past - mralex was the handle I used. I use the new handle because it matches with the blog I'm starting (like everyone and their mother) for fun. I am a writer but never done the blog format so I'm breaking myself in gently...lol...by posting here and getting in the flow.

That was my very long answer to a short question!! Sorry!!

KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!
KOBE FOR MVP!!!

Can I get some love for first suggesting that Drew may (need to, or just will) come off the bench? lol.

Regarding that last sentence you wrote about that Japanese man and his blog. Funny that you mention about being a Law and Order storyline....because it already was in 2004. This was quite a well-known case in Japan. It was equivalent to the O.J. Simpson case for that country. BTW....GO LAKERS!!!

lakersrydeordie,

The bright side is even if KB never gets his due, he will retire with about 5 or 6 rings and a couple of finals MVPs.

I bet if forced to chose, KB would take the half a dozen rings.

Not fair, but at least some consolation.

Edwin,

I guess we just trust the Lakers staff and their assessment over enthusiastic fans' opinions...

When they say he's ready, he's ready. If he's not, he's not. What's the point in second guessing this?

Also, this is a KNEE injury. You cannot mess with that as a big man. He'll be back, just be patient.

{An Insight Into East Coast Bias}

So, last night I watched the first half of the game at a local bar in my personal purgatory of suburban Northeast Ohio. (Yes, there is 14 inches of snow on the ground and I haven't seen the sun since I was in Los Angeles in early December. Not easy for a California native.)

And I'm watching the game listening to the dialogue of the sparsely populated bar.

"They're not that good."

"I can't believe people thing Kobe's that great. He's nothing compared to LeBron."

"It's going to be the Cavs and Phoenix in the Finals now that they've got Shaq."

"The Cavs are way better than this team."

"Who's this guy?" (Lamar had the ball.)

People out East are DELUDED about the NBA. They really think the West is no big deal and that Kobe's a hack. It's just crazy.

If Kobe doesn't win MVP, the population of Los Angeles better riot... somewhere in the East.

NO MVP? NO PEACE!

GO LAKERS!

DrewPauKobe,

I appreciate your posts. It is evident that you are a writer, because you post as a seasoned vet.

Re Kobe's pull-up socks:
I have noticed since the season started that Ronny was using the same shoes as Kobe. Ronny has always played with pull-up socks. So maybe this is Kobe's nod to Ronny by wearing his socks the same way Ronny wears his. Kind of like "I've got my Ronny on right here"... Ronny being a hard worker and all.

Happy Gilmore,
Loved your Top Gun reference... "Yeeha! Jester's dead!"
LOL

Seriously though, Jester, I hope you do get that Kobe for MVP chant going at the Rose Garden.

Go Lakers!

I really liked Farmar's block in the wanning moments of the game--that speakes volumes...

GO LAKERS!!!
