Live from Staples- Lakers vs. Grizzlies
Just one K Brother tonight. Be nice to me.
BK
Kobe, Walton, Drew, Odom, Fish starting for LA, Gay, Gasol, Darko, Conley, Miller for Memphis.
10:45- LO misses an open layup- something that's been a problem for him lately, but it's followed up with a Walton jumper to get the Lakers on the board. Memphis hot early, though, and the Grizz are up 6-2 early.
7:13- Not a lot of whistles so far. Lakers down 11-8, as Memphis started the game hot, and with some easy looks at the basket. Mike Miller already has seven points on 3-3 shooting. Kobe's going to have to pay closer attention to him if he's going to stick him tonight. He can score in bunches. Offensively, the Lakers haven't really found much rhythm moving the ball. Most of the points have come in one form or another off the break- a dunk for Kobe, a putback for Fish, a jumper for Walton. That sort of thing.
6:30- Memphis 13, Lakers 10. Miller again gets to the hoop, though, but the Lakers get the ball back on the offensive foul. On the next possession, Walton takes the entry, makes a quick dribble, then goes up with the left hand for the bucket. Now that he's using the left more often, his options in the post are opening up considerably.
Walton cuts to the basket on the next trip for another easy bucket. Now they're starting to get some better looks.
4:25- Kobe knifes to the basket for and and-one. The Lakers are on a 12-5 run, and are officially taking control of the game. The're getting inside, either through dribble penetration or the post up, which has helpe dthe percentage. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies are doing the same, and are also geting a lot of clean looks. Miller has been particularly effective against Kobe, and Gasol and Darko have also done a good job inside. But the penetration has been too easy for Memphis.
3:24- Kobe hits a pair of FTs, 25-22 LAL.
2:42- Timeout on the floor. Fair to say this hasn't been a defensive battle. Lakers up by one, 27, 26. Miller has done most of the damage, with 13 for Memphis. If LA can get some stops, they'll be fine. Ariza and Farmar into the lineup after the TO.
Ariza will now guard Miller, Kobe takes Navarro.
END OF THE FIRST- Lakers 31, Memphis 29. This has been a rough showing on the defensive end for LA thus far, in part because Miller has been lighting them up, taking advantage of a sick Kobe. Pau Gasol found some space in the middle for six points, and it's generally been hard for LA to stop the sort of penetration that can lead to easy looks for the opposition. On the other end, they're taking care of the ball (2 TOs), and are shooting 45%... not much has to change there. Eight dimes on 12 FGs indicates some good ball movement, too.
SECOND QUARTER:
Farmar, Ariza, Kwame, Ariza... and Coby Karl start the second quarter. I'm wondering if Critter's poor performance Friday has hurt him a little.
9:11- Kwame makes a nice move on Gasol, but misses the layup. Lakers could have used those points, as Memphis has gone on a run to take a lead. Miller has hit a couple threes, and continues to just torch them.
Ariza hits a three from the corner to stop the run a little, then Kwame makes up for the miss with a layup on Gasol. Lakers up 38-37.
7:12- Tiemout on the floor, the Lakers have taken the lead back, 40-37. Kobe, Walton, Turiaf in coming out of the TO, and Ronny hits his first jumper. Happy birthday indeed. Farmar follows with a finger roll at the hoop off a Memphis turnover. 11-0 run for LA. 44-37 LAL.
5:58: Farmar hits a three, and the run goes to 14-0, and the pressure goes up defensively as the Lakers force another turnover.
4:51- Timeout on the floor. Lakers on a 16-0 run have taken a 12 point lead. Good work by the seconds/combination of the first/seconds to build the lead. The defensive pressure has gone up as well, as the Lakers have forced four TOs in the quarter. Memphis has made only three FGs in the quarter, two by Miller who is now back in the game.
Kobe picks him up again. He looks like the intensity level is up on that end, too. I think the first go round ticked him off.
:45.8- 61, 51 LAL. Drew has made some nice plays offensively, showing off some good moves and a little handle in the lane. With eight boards, he's having a nice night there, too. Not his most effective as an interior defender, as the motion Memphis is using has forced him (and his teammates) into some late rotations. But the Lakers have taken control of the game with a 13-20 quarter from the floor.
That's how the half ends, 61-51 LA. Not necessarily their best effort (the defense has been spotty) but they're up by 10 at the half against a bad team. That's about what you'd want and expect. Another solid half, and they'll take the game.
More to come.
THIRD QUARTER:
9:44- Lakers up 66-53 and haven't given an inch to start the second half. They've avoided letting Memphis come out of the gate with the sort of run that would have brought them back into the game.
8:52- Drew down, holding his knee (looks from here like his left, but it's hard to tell...) The entire bench has cleared out to go attend to him. Hopefully he's okay...
...yep, it's his left, but he's still not on his feet yet. Now he's up, and being helped significantly. He can't walk on the thing. He's trying, but he's not able to put weight on it, and now is being helped by Ronny and Kwame off the floor. He's not putting any weight at all on the leg. In a nice gesture from Lakers fans, as he goes into the tunnel, a "Bynum, Bynum!" chant goes up.
Sometimes these things look a lot worse than they are, but down through the tunnel he was putting no pressure at all on the leg.
5:38- To say the energy has gone out of the building a little would be an understatement, but at least the lead hasn't gone anywhere. Lakers still up 72-59. Kwame to the line, misses the first, and the second. Still a 13 point lead.
3:08- Lakers still up by 9, as Gasol hits a shot off the glass. They've clearly lost a litle bit of energy and rhythm offensively, as they've gone almost exclusively with jump shots since Drew went out of the game. The ball still has to move, players still have to move. They can't live on the perimeter, just because Drew isn't there. Attack the rack.
2:30- Memphis on a 6-1 run, closing the game to six. Lakers need to put the biscuit in the basket. They've been stuck in the 70s for a while now.
1:09- Ronny takes a give and go from Ariza, and gets fouled going to the hoop. He makes one of two, but fari to say this has been a lousy quarter fro the Lakers offensively. Fortunately, Memphis can't hit a shot, either, and the D has been reasonably good.
Farmar hits a HUGE triple to end the quarter and push the lead back to 10, 80-70. That was a huge, huge shot.
FOURTH QUARTER:
The Lakers have to go inside. They can't be content to sit out and launch jumpers all night. Meanwhile, in the big picture, they have a serious issue with frontcourt depth if Drew is out for a while. Mihm isn't coming back anytime soon. Vlad is hurt. That leaves Ronny to what, back up both LO and Kwame? Yikes. Or they go reeeeeeeeeal small.
10:54- Credit the Lakers with getting very, very aggressive defensively. Critter combined with a bunch of teammates to force a steal, then convert a tear drop after pressuring the Grizzlies after a 54 miss, then forced another TO on the other end. This after Ariza nearly forced a steal a couple possessions before. Points have been a struggle over the last 15 minutes, but they're making up for it.
7:05- This game has gone the way of molasses. The Lakers have put in 26 points in the half, and Memphis 27. They've played some nice defense, in terms of pressuring the ball, etc., but things are starting to go Memphis' way as the Lakers are having less success putting the ball in the hole.
And as I was thinking, you dan't leave LO and Kobe on the bench much longer, they both come back in at the 6:03 mark.
5:47- Timeout on the floor, as Kobe just got T'd up. Honestly, I coudln't tell what he was upset about, adn nobody sitting around me picked it up, either. Memphis is on an 11-0 run, with a FT to come. They've brought the lead down to two, and have started to take any and all momentum away from the Lakers who haven't had a clean look in a long time. With Kobe back in the game, that should improve, but I have a feeling they're going to stay very Kobe-centric for the rest of the game. Hopefully he can get them through.
The Lakers haven't had a FG in four minutes, I think.
5:00- Ronny in for Kwame coming out of the TO- Not sure why it took so long for PJ to get LO and Kobe back in the game. That'll be one he'll likely be asked after the game...
2:54- Lakers tied up at 91, but will get two FTs from Lamar coming out of the timeout. Overall, they've only scored 30 points in the second half, and Memphis is currently riding a 17-4 run.
2:11- Kobe to the line with a chance to give LA the lead back after Juan Carlos Navarro gives the Grizz a lead with a triple. Second chance points there for Memphis, who got the long rebound off a missed jumper.
Kobe makes two, but Hakim Warrick gets fouled by Kwame and will go to the line. He makes the first. Tied at 95. The Grizzlies are really working the high screen, and are finding some good looks. Though generally they've been jumpers. Warrick makes the second, and Memphis is back up by one.
1:19- Terrible foul from Kwame, jumping the screen and fouling Navarro about 35 feet from the basket. Lakers get lucky when he misses both. Still a one point Grizzlies lead. Wow, that was a bad foul.
38.9- Lakers up by three after a great Kobe layup off a steal. Good thing Kobe got a hand on the pass from Memphis, because they had Gasol wide open down low off the pick and roll. But Kobe got a piece of Miller's pass, and the break was on. Memphis calls timeout, get the ball in to Gasol int he post- the ball rotates over to Gay, who hits the triple.
Fans on their feet.
Good ball movement on the possession, as Luke drops the ball into Kwame, who is fouled on the way up- hit in the eye, it looks like. He'll go to the line with a chance to put the Lakers up. Gay picks up his sixth in the process.
Kwame misses the second, and the Lakers get a tough break as Walton tracked the rebound, but was on the line before he could call timeout.
GAME SET MATCH: Contact on the last play, but Kwame does a nice job contesting the shot, and the lay in falls short. Nice play by 54. Lakers win by 1.
More to come....

Play some D Kobe.
Mike Miller is roaming free.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 06:47 PM
Kobe is settling for too many long jumpers early. Baby can really get off his feet quickly as he did on that follow dunk. Grizz off to a good start.

GO LAKERS!!!

The feed on FSN West was delayed on League Pass for almost 5 mins. I almost had a fit!!! Lakers have got to dig in defensively. Too many easy jumpers and shots at the rim for the Grizz.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 06:52 PM
Hey Tom -
I'm in San Jose as well. Nice to meet another Lakers fan in the Bay Area.
GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: Stephen Ward | January 13, 2008 at 06:54 PM
Drew is really becoming a force in the middle. Those spin moves and his footwork are a thing of beauty.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 06:54 PM
Where's the D?
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 06:54 PM
Fish for threeeeeee!!!!
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 06:56 PM
Good rotation there...but still too easy.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 06:57 PM
That's the Kobe I love...the one who opens up wounds by slashing to the basket before putting the finishing touches with his jumper. Great drive for the And One!!!
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 06:58 PM
Woo Hoo! Nice 3 from Fish & Kobe with a 3 the hard way.
GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: Stephen Ward | January 13, 2008 at 06:58 PM
Kobe needs to pay more attention to Mike Miller.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:00 PM
Stop Mike Miller!
Funnel him if you have to, but stop his free roam!
It's too freakin easy.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:01 PM
i know he has two fouls but is it just me or is darko not the biggest scrub people once made him out to be?
he ain't bad, really... or maybe i'm forced to say that b/c darko may violate my italian mother and kid daughter
(creepy joke, but you had to have seen that video)
Posted by: CBuck | January 13, 2008 at 07:04 PM
Hmmm, Kobe doesn't seem to be putting up much D right now. Is it because he's still ill? Is he saving himself for offense or something?
Man, Mike Miller is just doing whatever he wants against the Lakers. Where's the D on him? They can't let a sharp shooter like him go off.
Man, Lindsey Soto is hot!
GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: Stephen Ward | January 13, 2008 at 07:05 PM
Mike Miller seems to be auditioning for a spot on the Lakers tonight. The bright lights of Hollywood bring out the best in a lot of players. That being said, Kobe doesn't seem to have the defensive energy he needs tonight. He's got to step it up.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:05 PM
The Defense went to church or something...to pray for their lives.
Coz it's not in the game!
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:07 PM
First team to play some defense wins.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:08 PM
GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Jr. | January 13, 2008 at 07:10 PM
Good offense, poor defense for The Show so far. I hope they're not taking the Grizz too lightly.
Happy 25th birthday to Ronny Turiaf!!!
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:12 PM
I agree with what you guys have been saying... Kobe just doesn't seem to
have the energy tonight to keep up with Miller. Maybe we should put Ariza
on him.
After I type that it looks like that might be the matchup now.
C'mon Bench Mob!
Posted by: Bzar | January 13, 2008 at 07:12 PM
Java just lost his spot I think.
First off the bench for Kobe is Karl.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:12 PM
Stay with the shooters. Sheesh!
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:13 PM
farmar's starting on my fantasy team tonight... he's really screwing me on FG % with all his misses
AND SOMEBODY CLOTHESLINE MIKE MILLER! this is peja revisted

AARRRHHHHHH! Stop with the long links that break the site already!!!
Posted by: mikecase00 | January 13, 2008 at 07:17 PM
Jordan and Kwame combine on a nice give and go. Jordan misses Coby Karl on the break...too late with the pass resulting in a poor opportunity for Coby to finish. Kwame misses one and then makes one. Same old Kwame!!!
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:18 PM
The birthday boy with a sweet jumper!!!
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:20 PM

16-0 run!

Kobe in 12 point lead.

Man, Farmar is bringing it tonight. UCLA, baby!

farmar three mins three steals seven points.

Posted by: andand | January 13, 2008 at 07:23 PM
Jordan is the difference maker as the Lakers push the lead to 12. Steals, points and a couple of nice assists. These refs suck. Kobe runs over Kyle Lowery then feeds Farmar for the 3 right in front of the ref. I'll take it!!! LOL!!!
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:23 PM
I guess Kobe's decided Mike's had enough for tonight.
Posted by: Vman | January 13, 2008 at 07:25 PM

good Lord that's man's jumper is so beautiful

Good footwork Drew!
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:28 PM
That was pretty good by Andrew. Got caught under the the basket again...but this time he knows what to do.
Meanwhile where's the freakin D? Trading baskets right now.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:30 PM
oh wow andrew!
i'm so impressed with that kid.
how he got SO good, SO fast is a testament to his once-questionable work ethic. good job, bynum!
Posted by: CBuck | January 13, 2008 at 07:30 PM
We've gotta step the D up in the second half.
Posted by: Xodus | January 13, 2008 at 07:31 PM
Kobe is really chasing MM now!!! Then he hits back to back threes!! What a great player. Baby cannot be guarded by just one player. He makes two superb moves and finishes both.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:31 PM
Unless we play much better defense in the 2nd half, there won't be any
tacos tonight.
Bynum's a BEAST!
Posted by: Bzar | January 13, 2008 at 07:31 PM
Sweet move & dunk by Bynum.
2 consecutive 3's by Kobe.
Nice ball-handling & footwork by Bynum.
1st unit is looking great.
GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: Stephen Ward | January 13, 2008 at 07:32 PM
Hey looks like Kobe's out of breath. I hope we get to read an insightful 1,200 word post on how Kobe's lack of conditioning is sure to mean he will fade as the season wears on...
Posted by: tajluck | January 13, 2008 at 07:32 PM
The Grizz are so helpless defensively this should be a bigger lead. Had WE only played D.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:32 PM
I would be nice to have Trevor chase Mike Miller so the guy with the upper respiratory condition doesn't have to.
Posted by: Vman | January 13, 2008 at 07:33 PM
did i say farmar was killing my fantasy stats?
sorry jordan.
Posted by: CBuck | January 13, 2008 at 07:35 PM
Cant wait to hear Mike T.'s latest criticism: "I didn't like how one of Bynum's socks was slightly higher than the other. Start Kwame with his nice juicy calves!"
Posted by: golal | January 13, 2008 at 07:36 PM
Vman, indeed.
Unfortunately Phil is missing the boat. Luke Walton in instead.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 07:36 PM
LOL! Hey, tajluck. Yeah, I'm waiting for Mike T's description on how Kobe's going to fade as the season goes on because he's sucking wind. Hahaha!
GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: Stephen Ward | January 13, 2008 at 07:39 PM
I told you that these refs suck. Kobe gets fouled, no call, to end the half. He yells at the ref which is not the right thing to do but the ref FOLLOWS him looking for a confrontation. Kobe has really showed a lot more restraint this year about arguing calls. I don't like the way the ref handled that little incident. Lakers up 10 after a much better 2nd Q. in which they only allowed 22 points. I hope they seal the deal early!! GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 07:39 PM
The Knicks played really structured ball today; that's how they were able to beat Detroit.

Okay, this is my first time with the online TV thing. I'm an LA native/die-hard Laker's fan stuck in Saint Louis and can usually only catch nationally televised games. Tushar - THANK YOU.
Posted by: Stephen Lee | January 13, 2008 at 07:50 PM
This first half was perfect for describing the difference in philosophies.
The Lakers started by going into the middle and operating their offense correctly. The Lakers had no problem scoring from executing their offense.
Andrew Bynum show some serious stuff in the post. No garbage points. The points were typical low post points from a legitimate big man. He created his shot on a number of occassions.
The structure of the Lakers defense, the first units, gave up 29 points in the first quarter. This is what I wanted to see. I wanted to see what happens when the Lakers play a structured game on offense, that allows the opponent to play structured ball in return. The Grizzlies scored pretty decently.
The 2nd unit started out the same as the 1st unit with an entry pass into the middle. They executed the offense. The got a few buckets that way but the 2nd units defense was far better than the first units and created a number of points off it. The transitions baskets allowed the Lakers to turn a 2 point 1st unit lead into a 12 point lead.
The 2nd unit's defense play is the philosophy I'm referrning to. Strong rotations and stability in the middle will lead to transitions baskets. The problem is that it was against the Grizzlies 2nd unit, too.
The 2nd unit allowed only 8 points in the 2nd quarter, while scoreing 18 points. That's what a defensive philosophy will do. It will create points.
Lets see what happens in the 2nd half.

Crap! Bynum hurt on the floor holding his left knee. Not a good thing.
We've got only one real center in Kwame since Mihm is out for a while. Turiaf can play some center, though.
Man, Bynum can't even put any weight on it. I hope it's not severe. Cross our fingers!
GO LAKERS!!!

Kobe's playing some D now.
From running around chasing Mike Miller to make it harder for everyone in his midst.
There's some positives.
Posted by: Faith | January 13, 2008 at 08:06 PM
NOOOOOO!!!!
Damn you Mike T.
You got your wish, I guess.
And now this injury might put away any chance that we trade f...ing dumbass Kwame Brown.
Can't believe what I just saw.
Posted by: Allan | January 13, 2008 at 08:07 PM
kwame sucks..man does he suck..seriously.
i can play better than him.
Posted by: Lakers4realz | January 13, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Man that looked bad when they were helping Drew into the training room. I hope Stu was right when he said it might be somewhat fear related and he recovers quicly. Lord please help this young man get well SOOOOOON

If he's really hurt, it's over this season for the Lakers. Sorry 55 win bandwagoners.
It's sad because AB was going to take us to the next level
Posted by: zen | January 13, 2008 at 08:09 PM
Kobe has 100 million dollars, he's defending his butt off with a respiratory infection in an unimportant home game in mid January.
WARRIOR
Posted by: Vman | January 13, 2008 at 08:09 PM
Don't panic guys!
The Lakers are good enough & deep enough to win this game. Kwame is not the offensive force that Bynum is, but he 's got strong D & he's a big body.
Besides, we have one of the greatest players in NBA history in Kobe on the team. He will not allow this team to lose.
GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: Stephen Ward | January 13, 2008 at 08:09 PM
I can't take another year of Kwame Brown as the starter. Please get well, soon...Baby B.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 08:09 PM
Dear Mike,
Your wish came true. And now we can all watch Kwame fumble his catches, miss his free throws, and not get back to guard Gasol. Lets just hope he doesn't go out tonight for Ronny's birthday, as I should remind you Cake-Throwing Gate happened a year ago today.
Posted by: bobie | January 13, 2008 at 08:09 PM
I will never watch another game online again.
Posted by: Stephen lee | January 13, 2008 at 08:09 PM
Come on everyone, Mike T does not want Drew hurt.
Posted by: Laker Kev | January 13, 2008 at 08:10 PM
Did Bynum land on his knee (floor to knee) or did he land on his feet and twist the knee?
Can't see the game...listening from Houston
Posted by: NOOOO | January 13, 2008 at 08:11 PM
Damned Kobe is destroying the offensive flow. Every time he touches it he shoots. No ball movement, nothing. No one else is involved, thanks to Kobe.
Posted by: troy | January 13, 2008 at 08:11 PM
with mihm in street clothes (and sucking either way if he plays) and kwame just now rounding back into his unreliable shape ... this is a bad moment.
this season was too good to be true. i hate to start the death kneel but my man! if bynum's out then we got two weak spots in our lineup...
we were doing so well
Posted by: CBuck | January 13, 2008 at 08:11 PM
fear related? I don't think so. The beginning of it didn't look bad but then he really twisted it at the end. Im amazed that more players dont get knee injuries. There must be a safe guard technique that players use. How did Jordan never get a knee injury his whole career?
All the life has been sucked out of the crowd. I guarantee the Lakers will downplay it for tonight. Tomorrow or the next day will be the major announcement
Posted by: zen | January 13, 2008 at 08:12 PM
I dont know folks.....
Lord please help Baby bynum...the kid works hard..he is a rising star....
give him back to us quick..
best case scenario it's a sprain and he is out a couple weeks...hopefully it is ok and he comes back!..

Lets hope Andrew is okay. This is why we have Kwame in case something like this happened. We have to believe that we can still play well because Kwame's experienced in our system and has been a starter. My major concern is that Kobe may feel like he needs to score more to make up for Andrew's absence and LO seemed more comfortable being the third option. I'm cheering my Lakers regardless of who's playing. Do well Kwame and step up. Go Lakers!!!
Posted by: Nemaia Faletogo | January 13, 2008 at 08:13 PM
Please God... let it not be anything serious.
Lakers need to keep their heads in this game and not think too far ahead.
Posted by: Bzar | January 13, 2008 at 08:14 PM
The good news is that he's a center and not a guard..So the impact is not as high.
Kareem gets a vacation for a while..
There is no life in the Lakers at all...This shows you how much confidence AB gave the Lakers this season.
Posted by: zen | January 13, 2008 at 08:14 PM

so... if Andrew is going to be out for awhile, does Kobe issue his trade demand immediatley after the game or does he wait for tomorrow?

It appears the Lakers have forgotten that you can shoot from inside the painted area. If they manage to maintain the lead, it will only be through Memphis's ineptitude.

He came down awkwardly with his foot tangled with someone else's foot, and his knee buckled under him as he collapsed.
Looks like Mike T's voodoo doll of Baby finally worked. Oh wait, I hear your computer Mike. It says..."You've Got Bail"...

anybody who cant see that is BLIND.
Posted by: Lakers4realz | January 13, 2008 at 08:24 PM
Lakers need to take one thing at a time and win this game. First things first. Losing Baby will be even worse if they lose their focus and lose this game. Kobe locked down MM in the 3rd. Mike is still at 19 points. That's the difference between a shooter and a scorer...shooters like Miller can be stopped. Scorers like Kobe find a way to get it done.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 08:25 PM
Locker room reports just a sprain by xray, MRI tomorrow morning. Lets hope all is well.

Posted by: Xodus | January 13, 2008 at 08:26 PM

xrays negative?..where did you see this?!?!

So there goes the mid season tests with SA and Phoenix. The games are still winnable.
Kwame and Lamar are going to have to earn their $22 million portion of the salary cap
Posted by: Vman | January 13, 2008 at 08:27 PM
According to Stu and Joel, X-rays on Baby's knee were negative and he's scheduled for an MRI tomorrow. He's reportedly in a great deal of pain. Team officials and medical staff are hoping that it is just a sprain. I hope so too.

We have to remember that as much as Andrew has helped us we are better NOT just because of him but Fisher, Farmar, Crit and Ariza. We all need to chill and see what's up after this game!

It's useless to tell people the XRAY is negative for a knee injury. Wait for the MRI results!

Posted by: golal | January 13, 2008 at 08:37 PM
That was the worst carry I've seen in my years of watching the nba...and NO CALL!
Posted by: Laker Kev | January 13, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Looks like we're going to have another Kobe ball finish. Man, this looks disturbingly like deja vu all over again.
Memphis is playing with much more confidence now that Baby is out.
Posted by: CornerJ | January 13, 2008 at 08:38 PM
kwame plays with 7 seconds of intensity..then
1) turns his back to the play..
2) doesnt even challenge a lot of shots
3) looks lost on defense.
we are screwed.
Why cant they do an MRI right now?...they should take him now..
Posted by: Lakers4realz | January 13, 2008 at 08:38 PM

GO LAKERS!!!!
Posted by: Stephen Ward | January 13, 2008 at 08:40 PM
OMG refs blowing call on Miller, I guess they are still betting on games. Then to compound errror they T up Kobe. That really sucks. They should have a an independant review of refs calls and set up point system. When ref gets so many bad calls they are banned from playoff games and also subject to retraining.

Kwame with a bonehead play trying for a steal thirty feet from the basket. Luckily a good free throw shooter misses both. Kobe with a strong drive to get to the line where he makes both for a 1 point lead. Lakers up by 3 after Kobe makes a wondrous shot after Kwame redeems himslef with a steal. Just Win Baby!!!

Lakers need to just get one defensive stop and they'll be good. They keep saying that Memphis always gives us a tough time but that was until Andrew became our starting Center. We were on our way to blowing them out again until Andrew got hurt. Guys just need to step up and get the job done. Our team will be fine after the initial shock of Andrew going down. The game is definitely different without Andrew in there, but we can still win.

Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 13, 2008 at 08:56 PM
bronxlakerfan, I agree that PJ jeopardized this game with his mondo bizarro substitutions. Every now and then, he likes to play his "I so Zen Master I'll just sit here pretending to be calm as we lose our 12-pt lead out there" game. Really, really infuriating.
Posted by: CornerJ | January 13, 2008 at 08:56 PM

Grizz executed well resulting in a Rudy Gay 3. Gay is clutch and a nice player. Of course Kwame misses the second free throw short. He looked scared. Why am I not surprised.
