why is Kobe shooting so much?
Coz of the turnovers.
Posted by: Faith | January 14, 2008 at 08:32 PM
I enjoy Mike T.'s posts. But I really think he's wrong about Kwame Brown. Kwame is horrible.
Posted by: troy | January 14, 2008 at 08:32 PM
Kwame is personally responsible for three turnovers in the last 3 minutes. I'm better at Basketball than Kwame Brown.
Posted by: PhxLkrFan | January 14, 2008 at 08:32 PM
I think Kwame Brown is the first player in NBA history ever to bounce the ball off his own knee. And without the ball reaching the ground no less!
Posted by: Xodus | January 14, 2008 at 08:32 PM
Right now it's all Kobe to start the third
Posted by: Nemaia Faletogo | January 14, 2008 at 08:33 PM
See Luke?
Would you really rather he shoot or Kobe?
Posted by: | January 14, 2008 at 08:33 PM
What is Kwame contributing? No offense, no rebounds, no defense. What?
Posted by: troy | January 14, 2008 at 08:35 PM
The most disturbing thing about this game is that the Lakers are actually being out rebounded.
And the Sonics aren't even a terribly physical or good team.
Posted by: AndrewT | January 14, 2008 at 08:35 PM
Luke is giving us nothing so far tonight. Kobe still at it though
Posted by: Nemaia Faletogo | January 14, 2008 at 08:35 PM
Faith,
You mean because Kwame doesn't realize he can't stand in the lane all day and can't dribble the ball or successfully finish at the basket when he does manage to get the ball back to his hands on dribbles. .
Posted by: Xodus | January 14, 2008 at 08:35 PM
Xodus,
"I think Kwame Brown is the first player in NBA history ever to bounce the ball off his own knee. And without the ball reaching the ground no less!"
That may be true (I don't have the stats in front of me. haha). But it's still not as unintentionally hilarious as Von Wafer turning the ball over attempting to call time out during an '06 SPL game. With a double dribble, no less. That's the all-time classic in my book.

Wow. It's amazing how much confidence Bynum's presence gave to Kobe in his teammates. Without Bynum there, he feels like he needs to score 38 for us to win. Interesting.
Secondary scorers really need to step up.
We always win when five Lakers score in double figures.
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: Jon K. | January 14, 2008 at 08:36 PM
If Kwame could just get double figure rebounds, I'd be happy.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 14, 2008 at 08:36 PM
I HATE YOU KWAME BROWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: PhxLkrFan | January 14, 2008 at 08:37 PM
This is one of those nights where the Bench Mob is actually playing better
than the first unit.
C'mon Lakers! Play some D
Posted by: Bzar | January 14, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Jon K.,
i agree with you that it's Mike T's fault that Bynum is hurt!...lol.. you can't be wishing injuries on your own players... you just can't... that's wrong.
also, I have to disagree with you on the Bynum 2nd best player thing.
I think without a doubt he is our #2 player. He shoots a great FG% and leads the team in blocks and rebounds. Look at Hollinger's PER ... He's the 2nd
most efficient player on our team too.
With Bynum we can throttle the Suns or at least compete. Without Bynum, the beat us up in the 1st round.
AGAIN!
Posted by: Korey | January 14, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Must suck for Mike T to see his life's work (the Kwame Brown Effect) go up in flames.
Posted by: sixonezero | January 14, 2008 at 08:39 PM
I guess its safe to say what we should not expect too much out of Lamar on the offense.
Posted by: albert | January 14, 2008 at 08:39 PM
K Brothers,
You guys would be so much happier if Von Wafer was still a Laker.
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: Jon K. | January 14, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Man the defense has really picked up now that Kwame is getting his chance!!!
:(
Posted by: pslakerfan | January 14, 2008 at 08:40 PM
STOP. THE. FREAKIN. BALL.
Posted by: Faith | January 14, 2008 at 08:40 PM
If the Lakers re-sign Kwame Brown, I am quitting as a Laker fan.
Posted by: PhxLkrFan | January 14, 2008 at 08:40 PM
cause our starting frontcourt is trash right now. Kwame, Odom and Luke have all mailed it in
Posted by: DTC | January 14, 2008 at 08:40 PM
Bzar,
The bench mob is actually moving the ball and doesn't have Kwame holding them down.
Posted by: Xodus | January 14, 2008 at 08:41 PM
What the hell Kwame!
You miss a 2 inch layup!!!
Posted by: troy | January 14, 2008 at 08:41 PM
{Deep breath}
This is a bigger game than we realize.
Let's go. Do this.
GO LAKERS!
Posted by: Jon K. | January 14, 2008 at 08:42 PM
Kwame misses more point blank shots than any player I've ever seen. With other players you know they'll make those close ones, but not Kwame.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 14, 2008 at 08:42 PM
I really don't like when Kobe shoots too much because it hurts the others. When he does pass to them they wont be able to finish because they aren't in a rythym. Kobe always speaks about getting himself into a rythym which is fine but how can others play at a high level if only Kobe is taking shots and getting into a rythym. Kobe has to pass and make plays for others to get easy shots. Not sure if that is Kobe at his best but it would be helpful to his teammates if he did paSS. Alot of players can score in this league with the new rules you got guys like Gerald Wallace putting up 40 pts tonight. Kobe has not shown he is capable of playing a team game unless their is another great player around him. Not what I had in mind for this game. Of course his long shots lead to long rebounds and easy opps for the opposing team as well
Posted by: jon | January 14, 2008 at 08:42 PM
More than likely, this will be the start of a Kobe Bean Bryant 40+ point streak.
Kobe is probably thinking if he can keep us at .500 then we'll be fine and we can go back to being great when Bynum gets back.
Posted by: Korey | January 14, 2008 at 08:43 PM
The thing that's getting lost in all of this is how bad the Sonics are this year. The Sonics are terrible. If we win, enjoy it fellas. Not gonna happen a lot in the next few
weeks.
Posted by: PhxLkrFan | January 14, 2008 at 08:44 PM
Kobe backing off of Wally on that 3 - dude... that's Wally, not Robert Swift
Posted by: DTC | January 14, 2008 at 08:44 PM
We need defense.
We need energy.
We need effort.
I have faith, but I can only believe enough...you have to do the work! Go Lakers!
Posted by: Faith | January 14, 2008 at 08:44 PM
Kwame has the worst offensive game I have personally ever seen. I have never seen worse. Add in his bsketball IQ and his physical disabilities (small arms, smaller hands) and we may actually be better without him. He may be the Smush factor waiting to happen.
Wes
Posted by: | January 14, 2008 at 08:44 PM
Kobe is having to expand a lot of energy in this game. I hope it doesn't come back to haunt the team in the 4th Q.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 14, 2008 at 08:45 PM
stupid KB54 and luke4.
Posted by: xk | January 14, 2008 at 08:45 PM
Jon K,
"K Brothers, You guys would be so much happier if Von Wafer was still a Laker."
Absolutely. Were I Mitch Kupchak, I'd have locked up Von with a cheap, long term contract. 12 yrs/12 mil (similar to the 12 yrs/24 mil I'd have given Slava). When they happen to play well, fantastic. When they don't (which will be often), the A+ unintentional comedy they provide on a regular basis more than pays for itself.

how bad is our defense?
55% bad.
UNFREAKINACCEPTABLE!
Why didn't you just stay home then? Sheesh!
Posted by: Faith | January 14, 2008 at 08:46 PM
we look really bad tonight.
Posted by: PhxLkrFan | January 14, 2008 at 08:46 PM
We need to get Roni back in there, and give him starters minutes.
Posted by: troy | January 14, 2008 at 08:46 PM
the commentators just said theyd rather kobe shoot over kwame? i guess thats what theyre paid for..insightful comments like that.
must say im happy with 1 of 2 at the line for kwame..

THE BALL HOG IS BACK. The guy just doesn't seem to have any conscience. Imagine what Gilbert would say about Kobe.
Posted by: jon | January 14, 2008 at 08:47 PM
sixonezero,
Mike will never admit he's wrong. He'll find some way to pass the poor defense off on someone else.
Posted by: Xodus | January 14, 2008 at 08:47 PM
This is the worst defense I have seen them play all year, absolutely PATHETIC. No awareness of where their men are in transition, and cheating by trying to slap the ball away from behind rather than staying in front of their men. They kind of deserve to lose this game to be honest
Posted by: DTC | January 14, 2008 at 08:47 PM
Kobe has to be Superman just for us to stay in the game tonight. Look at the boxscore and you'll see the huge disparity for us as far as scoring goes. Sonics are scoring with ease right now.
Posted by: Nemaia Faletogo | January 14, 2008 at 08:48 PM
why would you pass to someone if you knew they were going to miss it. Notice that Bynum got a lot of touches from teammates. Notice that Brown hardly ever touches the ball.
Posted by: champion | January 14, 2008 at 08:48 PM
So....for the next 2 weeks i think we will have to outscore our opponents because we can't stop anyone...granted the sonics always score bunches against us.
Posted by: Bonez | January 14, 2008 at 08:48 PM
How bout this lineup to close out the game...
Farmar, Crit, Kobe, Ariza and Turiaf... at least then we'd get some movement
Posted by: Bzar | January 14, 2008 at 08:48 PM
The team (Luke, Fish and Lamar) are hesitant to throw the ball to Kwame. He hasn't earned heir trust. If Kwame could excel at one thing like rebounding, it would be a big help.
Posted by: bronxlakerfan | January 14, 2008 at 08:49 PM
DTC,
Kobe has his unathletic white guys mixed up.
Posted by: Xodus | January 14, 2008 at 08:49 PM
Second unit in to save us! Thank God!
GO LAKERS!
