Live from Staples- Lakers vs. Celtics

Lots of energy in the building tonight.  As much as any regular season game they've played in a long time.  Maybe the first Christmas day game when Shaq came back was buzzier, but other than that?  I can't think of one.  Very cool Celtics/Lakers montage shown on the big white curtain thing they hang from the scoreboard before games.

Nice that this rivalry means something again.  Lakers starters: Drew, LO, Ariza, Kobe, Fish.  Boston, without Rajon Rondo goes with: Tony Allen, Ray Allen, KG, Pierce, Perkins.

They're holding off on taking their tearaways off as long as possible... can't wait for the unveil!

BK

FIRST QUARTER:

Wow.  They all look like they have wedgies.  That look hasn't aged well.

No early action to the hole yet for the Lakers.  They don't want to get trapped taking too many jumpers early.  Attack, folks.  Boston is a better defensive team than Utah, but they still have to try to get the ball inside one way or another.

9:05- Fish takes it the length of the floor to pick up a foul, but misses the first.  That doesn't happen much.  Makes the second, and it's 6-3 Boston.  You can see why the Celtics are such a good team defensively.  Very active, and they give away very little space on that end.  Garnett's length really makes a difference in that regard.

8:26- Bad early foul on Drew.  Good call, as he got him coming up on the arm, but he can't let that happen.  If Perkins wants to take jumpers on the baseline, let him.  That's not where he wants to foul. They certainly don't want to see Drew end up in foul trouble tonight.

Wow.  Fish misses another FT, after a defensive three on Boston.  Two misses in his last three.  Must be the shorts.

7:31- Boston 11, Lakers 5.  Other than the one shot from Fish on the break, I don't think the Lakers have taken a shot in the paint yet.  They're living around the perimeter, and that's not where they want to be.  LA is having trouble generating clean looks in the first five minutes.  Defensively, they're doing a decent job in the initial shot, but are not cleaning up on the boards.  Boston outrebounding LA 6-1, including three offensive.

BTW, they just showed Rambis on the big screen.  He's got his old school frames on, to go with the stache he's growing back.  Very cool.

5:19- Nice play by Ariza, taking the feed from Drew and getting the ball to the hole.  A little give and go.  That's what they need to do if they're going to open up some space on the floor.  They do the same thing on the next trip, with Fish getting a ball cutting off the pass from Drew in the post.  Player movement.  Fish missed the layup, but the movement is what they need.  They'll fall eventually.

Odom called for shoving KG in the back, which on the replay looked like a good call.  Garnett goes to the line, makes two, and it's 18-11 with four and a half left in the quarter...

4:31- Big play for L.A. Kobe hits the turnaround jumper off the glass- that's old school in it's own right- but more importantly, draws the second foul on Ray Allen, who will have to sit.  That's a big deal for L.A.  Boston by five.

2:54- Timeout on the floor.  Lakers down 24-19, after Kobe hits a FT on a Perkins T.  There have been some breakdowns defensively, but overall, they're making Boston work for good looks.  Garnett has made a couple great buckets, including a sick on on Drew where after going up on the initial move, he moved the ball from his left to right hand (or the other way around) to make the shot.  Very sweet looking stuff.  This is a good team, folks, but the Lakers are slowly getting into a rhythm.  The offense has been much better over the last few minutes.  They're getting some penetration with the ball, playing more of an inside out game.

Farmar into the lineup for Fish coming out out of the timeout.

1:08- Kobe picks up his second, then a T after both yapping at the official and not giving him the ball back.  The call was reasonably questionable (drawing contact like that is a Kobe specialty, though, so he might have seen it coming), but still, give up the rock, 24.

Kobe responds with a layup on the other end, driving and converting.  He stays on the floor with two fouls, something of a calculated risk.

:28.4- LO picks up his second, too, as Pierce drives to the hoop.  Lamar got him at the top of the key.  So two on Kobe, two on LO.  Hopefully nobody picks up a third early, or it could be trouble.

END OF THE FIRST: Boston 32, Lakers 23.  Could have been more, though, had Ronny not swatted away a Pierce layup at the buzzer.  That was some serious hustle coming behind the play.  After a quarter of play, it's clear that the Lakers have their work cut out for them tonight.  Boston looks a little like an Eastern Conference San Antonio, in that they don't make many mistakes, and force the opposition to work for everything.  No freebies, and nothing comes easy defensively, either.

Plus, Tony Allen is doing a decent job on Kobe.  The Lakers have to figure out a way to find some offensive flow- and make easy layups.  They've missed some chippies, for sure, but at least they've managed to get the ball inside over the second six minutes of the first quarter.  Early, everything was on the perimeter.   Now they're doing a better job of working the ball and themselves in and out.  Defensively, they need to get stops without fouling.  Eight PFs in the first.  Too many.

AK will have the second.

SECOND QUARTER:

11:23 - Kwame takes the dump off from LO and immediately goes up with the shot.  It's a no go after getting fouled, but I like seeing 54 confident o the offensive end.  No indeicsion.  No hesitation.   One freebie outta two goes down.

9:33 - Great hustle play by Ariza, who breaks up Paul Pierce's dribble, dives on the loose ball, then shuttles it to a streaking Farmar for the layup.  When a player remains in perpetual motion like Trevor tends to, good things are likely to happen.  I can see why fans are taking a shine to him.

9:11 - The mo off the Ariza-Farmar connection is immediately stunted after Tony Allen connects from 27-feet out.  That's good for three points and bumps the Celtic lead to 13.  Time out.  The Celts have scored 9 points since the first period ended, so the Lakers need to figure out a way to get some clamps going.

8:40 - Comingo out of the timout, little in the way of ball movement creates little in the way of a quality posession.  It winds down with Farmar taking a desperate three and not even hitting rim.  I have to hope it's not how Phil drew things up.

6:23 - LO with the airball.  You L.A. Lakers have gone awfully cold this quarter, the Shooting percentage having dropped from an already paltry 38% first frame to a now sickly 33%.  On one hand, perhaps the Lakers are pacing themselves and trying to avoid peaking early.  On the other, more sensible hand, it might not be an awful thing to start putting the ball in the bucket.  Boston's playing good D, but the Lakers are also missing some open shots.

5:35 - Cmingout of the timeout, a T on Doc Rivers is announced.  For those keeping score, that's #5 and counting between the two squads.

5:28 - Know those shots where after the ball goes down the cylinder you think, "Nobody else but Kobe Byrant could make that?"  Well, that's basically the size of the shot Kobe made after facing a swarm of Cletics defenders while just outside the paint.  Arms twisting, pump fake on.  Pretty amazing stuff.

4:43 - Kobe goes up and draws Tony Allen's third foul.  That's very big.  It means Eddie House will come in to guard #24, and House ain't much in the way of locking dudes down.  With Tony joining Ray (no relation) on the bench for the remainder this half, the Lakers are looking at a real window of opportunity.  They need to capitalize.

3:20 - And now KG is in the locker room getting a cut handled.  Again, more chances the Lakers need to convert into gold.

3:13 - Drew gets hosed blocking Perkins.  All ball, and according to the ref, apparently all foul.  For a dude who's turned into a legit shot blocking threat, Bynum's having trouble lately getting much love from the officials.  The game against Utah on Friday saw Andrew getting jobbed on nearly back-to-back clean swats.

2:45 - Fish loses his footing shadowing Eddie House, leaving Mike Bibby's brother-in-law (for real) with a very clean look that goes down.

2:16 - Luke Walton (who might be as surprised as I am to see himself on the court, since he said pregame the odds were pretty iffy) misses a layup.  The next possession sees LO's three ball rattle in and out.  The best thing that could happen to the Lakers might just be switching ends of the court. This is clearly not their bucket.

1:17 - Having just canned a 9-footer along the baseline, Drew picks up his third whistle.  That'll sit him for the half.  Kwame's in to close things out.  His first trip on the court features a shot from Kobe that... wait for it... goes in and out.  I'm tellin ya's.  This rim HATES the Los Angeles Lakers.

THIRD QUARTER-

I was hoping the Lakers would push the envelope and come out in even shorter shorts after the half, or go the other direction and break out some Capri pants.

Celtics open the half strong, but an Ariza bucket gets the Lakers back to within 10, 60-50.  Still not a lot of flow offensively for the Lakers. Lots of possessions deep into the shot clock, not a lot of results.  Too litte off ball movement.

7:42- LO goes strong to the hoop for two.  It's been a tough night for Odom, who has missed a few easy layups, but on the other hand, he's gone strong to the rack a lot, and is shooting decisively.  IT just hasn't been his night in a lot of ways.  But at least he's not settling for jumpers entirely.

7:32- Drew picks up his fourth foul, preventing Paul Pierce from getting to the hole.  That'll be all for him for a while.  Kwame comes in.

Too much one on one from Kobe early in the clock.  Not good.  Kobe's struggling with his shot, and isn't getting much within the flow of the O.  Of course, there really hasn't been any flow to the O.  So to some extent it becomes a chicken adn egg thing.

Kwame picks up a T, making him the 28th person in the building to record one this evening.

LO responds on the other end with another drive to the hole.  That's what they need.

4:53- Boston 70, LA 61.  Honestly, I can't really figure out how the game is this close.   Boston has controlled the flow on both ends.  The Lakers are still struggling to find any offense, and the Celtics have had an easier time getting their shots.  One reason, perhaps, is that the Lakers are doing a good job taking care of the ball.  Only five TOs, which has minimized easy opportunities for the Celtics.  But the Lakers are shooting under 40%, Kobe is 5-19, Drew has four fouls, 24 3, and down the line.

4:33- Kobe draws the fourth foul on Ray Allen.  That's a big one.

3:16- Fish hits a three, and the Lakers are within 6.  Timeout Celtics.  In a lot of ways, this is a testiment to how the Lakers are doing this season.  If you watched this game without a scoreboard, you'd probably think the Celtics were ahead by more.  But the Lakers have cranked up the D when they've needed it, and have found enough ways to put the ball in the hole to keep it competitive.  TI hasn't looked good by any stretch, but here we are near the end of the third, and it's a ball game.

1:30-  Wow.  Tough call on Kwame.  On the replay, it looked like he slid a little into contact, but it was pretty close.  But despite the faact it was very questionable, it was still a better call than the one Kobe absorbed on the other end, picking up his fourth on a terrible charge call on Pierce.

Overall, the officiating has been pretty awful tonight.

Celtics on an 8-0 run, as the Lakers can't get a clean look.

END OF THE THIRD: Pierce hits a runner in the lane as the Celtics have pulled away, now with a 10-0 run.  82-66 Boston.  LA's shooting woes continued in the quarter (they're still under 40% for the night), and when I tell you they're standing around too much, you'd think the place was populated with statues.  On the other end, Boston is starting to get better looks at the bucket.  They managed to put more on the lead, despite resting two of the big three.  Lakers need a run to start the fourth, which hopefully AK can bring.

FOURTH QUARTER:

10:49 - Vlad actually plays some pretty decent D on Allen, Ray around the top of the key.  No matter.  The shot goes down, making it an even 20 point Celtic advantage.

10:33 - As Drew shoots a pair, Kobe checks in for Vlad, leaving The Critter on the floor to play the 2 spot.  Either Phil is counting on biting Doc Rivers not having a scouting report on Javaris or he's not thrilled with Vlad Rad's play.  I'm guessing it's the latter.

9:36 - Just as I was about to type that Phil is obviously not sweating Bynum picking up a 6th foul this early in the fourth, Drew picks up said 6th.  And it was an iffy one at that.  Loose ball whistle involving a scrum.  Not sure why it would be Drew's fault, but then again, why not another bad call against the Lakers.  I'm normally not one to bitch about the officials, but they've really been  penalizing the Lakers in a pretty dicey fashion.  I can think of at least 5 fouls off the top of my head that were sketchy on their best day. Ronny's in to play center.

8:51 - LO misses a leaner over Paul Pierce, around the third or so of that particular shot he's attempted that hasn't worked out.  But as BK noted, Lamar's one of the few Lakers actually looking to attack the rack on a regular basis tonight, so it's hard to get too mad at him.

6:29 - The Critter shakes and bakes Paul Pierce just inside the arc, drawing a few "oohs" from the crowd... until he loses the handle.  That would be his second turnover in about a minute.  I'm sure he's both amped to play and anxious to show off what he can do, but I think Javaris is trying a little too hard during these minutes.

5:11 - Kobe's basket is waived off Posey is ruled having drawn the charge under the basket.  I don't know if Kobe thought it was a legit call or he's just too tired to argue.  Either way, that's five on Bryant.

2:57 - Wow.  Flagrant foul against Lamar, but I have no clue how he didn't get ejected.  He basically just tackled Ray Allen into the Celtic bench.  I can't even begin to say where that came from (maybe some chatter on the floor I'm not privvy to, but seriously, what's that about?).  Not to root against LO, but that should be an early shower, for sure.  But again, this is a horribly reffed game, so they ain't getting much of anything right.

Out of the timeout following the min-fracas, you've got Luke, Farmar, Turiaf, The Critter and Ariza for the Lakers and... The Big Three for Boston.  Are you kidding me?  Seriously, why on Earth are KG, Jesus Shuttlesworth and the Truth on the floor right now?  I guess all Boston coaches like to keep their stars on the floor for no particular reason.  Bill Belichick, ye are a trend setter.

1:20 - The Critter goes to the line to put up a pair on a legit foul call, but can't the refs just let them play and get us out of here?  Man, even when they do it right, this crew does it wrong.

16.0 - Leon Poew fouls Turiaf's dunk.  That guy takes any opportunity to yell, "Not in my house!"

Powe also likes to dribble out the final seconds.  110-91 Celtics.  Yikes.  About as pretty as it looks.  They're gonna kick us out of our seats because they film Joel and Stu's postsgame where we sit, but thanks for dropping by.  More to come later.

Overrated!

AK or BK, my kingdom for an overrated chant...come on do it for Lakerville!

D Fish - not lookin good in those shorts

lol!

Best looking short short wearer...issss

Two refs I don't like...Salvatore and Leon Wood.

Beat LA!!!

Odom and the boys should file a grievance with the player's union for having to wear those shorts.

Hope to not only beat you tonight, but in the NBA championship too...let's go Celtics.

Kobe needs a basket to loosen up the team. He's got to give them some confidence. The Lakers are a little tight.

okay, so we were stunned looking at those shorts

and so the lakers came out playing stunned ...

okay, good gag. short shorts. ha ha. very cute

NOW START PLAYING SOME BASKETBALL!

I never ever ever ever... 100x ever want to see the Lakers in these shorts again!

It's too distracting!

Where is are movement? We are just watchin...this is not our lakers!

eww to these shorts....they're way too distracting

Ray Allen misses a free throw...a good omen!

It's getting testy...

C'mon Lakers!

Would somebody send me a link so I can listen to this game online?

I'm getting a little tired of KG and this "intensity" BS. He's spitting and cursing all over the court. More like poor sportsmanship to me.

Can someone put the refs whistle's away?? Too many calls in the first 6 minutes!!

Ray Allen still sucks.

Way to play D dude. Keep it up.

Two fouls on Allen... that's gonna help.

I AM FEELING NERVOUS, REALLY REALLY NERVOUS.... OR JUST TOO EXCITED.... WHICH EVER...
====================================================
GO LAKERS!

There's Kobe for his first basket. And 1! Then he misses the free throws. The Lakers are just too hyper. They need to settle down.

Sasha!

Man those are some white legs.

Let's go Lakers! Let's go!

Clap! Clap!

Oh, Celtic hatred is back in full force. Perkins with his BS, KG trying to bogart the whole league....this version of the Celts is easy to dislike.

Boston better get a double digit lead cause if we stick close as lackluster as we are now....we are going to hand them there asses when we get some energy

I AM FEELING NERVOUS, REALLY REALLY NERVOUS.... OR JUST TOO EXCITED.... WHICH EVER...
====================================================
GO LAKERS!

Game getting a little testy... niiiice!

KG as the intensity, heart champ of the league = overrated

They are so utterly wrong for making the Lakers wear those shorts on a night when they need such extreme focus. How can they focus with those shorts on...lol...Did anyone see Rick Fox taking pics on his cellphone and laughing at the players in those shorts...

Lakers have missed at least 3 layups already. That's the difference in the game.

I hope the shorts arent getting in the way of the game...they are really off. Theyve missed at least 5 layups...watch the game on the Prime Ticket...much better angle.

The refs are calling the dumbest fouls already too.

Our energy is there... we're just not catching any breaks yet.

thatz a B.S. foul on Kobe.

Kobe doesnt go for the up and under AND STILL gets the foul.BOGUS!

these refs suck!

not a shot to be made...

early foul trouble....

what a long night.

these refs suck!

not a shot to be made...

early foul trouble....

what a long night.

I'm like irrationally pissed that they made the Lakers wear these shorts. I know that it shouldn't matter, but it's just a distraction that is not needed, all so that the FO and the league can make a big production out of this game.

The Lakers need to hunker down and ride this quarter out. The C's got them in early foul trouble and capitalized.

Stop pressing. We'll be all right.

haha Rick Fox was dying...thats pretty funny..

By the way..the REFS ARE TERRIBLE. Watch the game on prime ticket and you and see the horrific foul calls. Not a good start. The refs have taken the Lakers out of the game already. Bynum is a non-factor because the refs arent letting anybody make body contact so hes staying away from blocking shots or fighting for position.

lakers need to start running. the celts setting up their defense is causing problems.

Safe bet...Kobe doesn't go 1 for 7 in the 2nd quarter. Don't worry, the Celts will wear down by the 4th. I just wish we didn't have to rely on that...

Lakers are nervous...and Celts are getting confident.
Smells trouble for Lakers..

Mr. Logo is in the house....good vibrations from Jerry West himself!

HEY!!!

Is that Javaris Crittendon on the floor!?!??!?!?!

Come on guys, it's not the shorts...we're pressing on our own.

Great hustle from Trevor!!!

This game is a disaster!!

If Kwame + Lamar are going to be in the game, they have to challenge all lay-ups.

Down by 13....now's the time!

Oh SNAP. Crit comes in the game for Sasha....that was a quick trigger. I guess Sasha isnt 100 percent. Whomever said Java gets more time if Sasha was out was absolutely right.

Also, Mike T. would love this. Kwame comes in and his handling the pounding better than Bynum did earlier. But offensively he is a liability.

The key to this game is the Celtics D and the Refs. The Lakers got called for dumb fouls and that takes away their edge.

Meanwhile the Celtics are doubling up on the post every single time. Odom is shooting layups but they arent good shots. They are all rolling out or missing strong. Bynum and Kwame cant get shots off.

The way the Lakers are going to get back in this game is through jump shots. Someone has to make shots other than Kobe from the perimter. Only thing is, Sasha is a shooter, not Crittenton. This is a game where Luke Walton would be useful. Vlad, where is he?

Bring back showtime, run on these fools.

Come on Andrew! Bring on the Skyhook!

not looking good boys and girls...

WHERE'S THE ENERGY?????

We are getting killed on their back-to-back games!!!!!

The refs are making this game so boring and the commentators on NBA TV are even worse. Hopefully the Lakers can find some sort of momentum because right now they are playing like they played last night instead of the Celtics.

I can't really see any team that is better or even comes close to Boston in the NBA. Can you see the way they're playing on a back to back...wow

The aren't running their offense....too much one on one.

Why are they missikng so many layups? This is insane.

Lakers are losing their cool. They are way too high for this game.

Kwame Brown is so bad on the offensive end, I almost wouldnt mind him gone from the team.

The way he plays is just not good basketball to watch.

Hey, who's that big fat guy? Did we pick up Elton Brown with our leftover slot?

Holy crap, it's Kwame. He must be pushing 310-320! Wow!

This time he ate the cake!

We are going to be pounded tonight

The 3 star power is wearing on us.
Kobe is 2 for 9 and no need to mention Lamar.
What the hell is up with Bynum???

FARMAR looks lost and has looked off for about 10 days

When the Walberg boys are in the house...good luck for the boys in green. BEAT LA! BEAT LA!!!

odom SUCKS

LOL...all of this and we are still going to win! GUARANTEE!!!!

Brian Scalabrine should be charged with a technical foul for trying to flop like that on Lamar. Lamar could've been seriously injured on that play.

Players like Scalabrine have no place in the league if they play like that.

This is basektball not soccer.

No acting please!

The effort on the offensive end is there for the Lakers, just not the results. They've got to step it up on defense.

When is Lamar going to develop that RIGHT HAND.?
He could have used it a few times tonight as he swoops in.

Crittenton looked shocked to be on the floor.
You can't blame him for that with Phil's rotation.

this is exactly the type of game where a mid range guy is greatly needed.

I hope the SUNS will beat the hated Celtics

Its a good reality check right now. Andrew needs (and will) to learn some moves , Odom is absolutely useless .

hey Ks...

where's Jack?

DETROIT WON IN BOSTON and used their depth to easily handle the big 3 stars.

The seasoning Detroit has will make them give Boston fits.
We're young but we better grow up REAL QUICK.
Our time is now!

Kwame has been eating a lot of fried chicken I can tell

Fisher didn't get the memo that spandex was allowed under the shorts...horrible. We whipped you purple and gold bums the day after thanksgiving, and we'll do it again.

Refs are pretty whistle-happy tonight.

Kobe with a heck of a move!!! Isn't that a foul in this league anymore?

When Crittendon brought the ball up, over the halfcourt line I was wondering why he didn't pass it. Then he dribbled the clock out and took an awkward shot. Now I'm wondering if he'll be cleaning out his locker at halftime.

They hack Kobe on EVERY jumpshot. They know that the refs won't call them all.

Thank you management. My sport idols look like a bunch of whores

boston implosion

must take advantage

I'm starting to feel the rivalry again...

the celts is just clogging the paint. too bad nobody hitting j's.

Kobe may just make me look like a liar by going 1 for 7 in this quarter...I don't remember seeing him shoot this bad for a while.

Garnett is staring to wear down! He just got rapped in the face and is probably going in for stitches. What goes around comes around.

Looks like butterflies on stomach is what the Lakers have.
Must be the short shorties..
Having problems with my Celtics.
C'mon Celts...

say it with me.

Overrated!

It seems like big games against the East Coast teams, Kobe shoots like CRAP.

Bad shooting against Detroit
Bad shooting against Cleveland
Bad shooting against Boston
Previously bad shooting more often than not against Miami

Is he too charged up or more charged up than he lets on as he
always downplays the mano mano matchups??

To his defense, the tight stingy defense seems to take the rest of the team out of their offensive mode.
Guys aren't getting good shots other than the few missed layups

Lamar is really getting hosed each time to the basket. Its trying to lay up against two big guys.

And funny to say, but I think Kwame has been our third best player tonight after Kobe, Trevor Ariza. Trevor has been hustling all night, Kobe is working on offense (but missing free throws) but Kwame has been battling for rebounds. We need production from Bynum. Hes letting Perkins get into his head. He cant think about Perkins shoving him around. He needs to just go up for the lobs.

By the way, Kevin Garnett is dripping blood on his face...Bynum went up for the lob and i guess garnett got clocked. Hes whining for a foul....you know as much as people like KG...Ive never been a fan. I think hes terribly overrated, sort of like Tracy McGrady. Big stat filler, but will never win a big game on his own...

And as I finish this post....the worst call of the game on Andrew Bynum's clean block of Perkins. No way thats a foul.

Bynum needs to earn Phil's trust and not pickup a 4th foul!

45-38 boston....

Let's go lakers... pound these guys to the ground!

Lakers on an innocent climb...cutting it down to 7. Kobe misses a floater that hits EVERY part of the rim. Bad luck!

albert stop crying.

how was that a foul on bynum? he had the ball!

somebody needs to tell stern to put his refs in check cuz this is stupid.

Kobe needs to pass every now and than..this is why Kobe is NOT a winner.

Odom is nowhere to be found. He will cave in as usual.
Andrew is getting hot , lets keep on pressing.

The saddest thing bout this game is that we could be on top right now...our shots are just not falling...I say this cant happen all nite...the tide is gonna turn in the second half...as poorly as our shot pct is we are still rite in this game.

Groovy shorts.

I still think we can win this game. Lakers need to wake up. I'm not too impressed with the Celtics. A win for the Lakers is within reach.

Colorado loves the Lakers!

i should say not pick up his 3rd foul.

also, crittendon probably was shocked to play. That's PJs way of saying "STAY READY!".

What other coach would do that in this "big" game?

neil,
I think Kobe has already won 3 times in a row, so he's already a winner.

check yourself homie.

Another HUGE game when Kobe's 2nd star is NON EXISTANT.

We knew Lamar would not show up and make the impact but this is when Bynum needs to make his presence felt.

It looks like Kendrick Perkins is the same presence in the middle as Bynum from a finishing strong standpoint.

Bynum has to outshine that guy and challenge GARNETT.

Big job but we need a #2 star and he's the guy for SURE!!

Barkley is completely right that the NBA is a joke. What the hell does david "the despot" stern think, that we enjoy watching freaking referees blowing out a whistle every 5 seconds??

AK,

can you describe who is guarding who ?

Ak, can you tell us who is guarding who ?

Good play by Andrew. We need a strong finish this half.

Can't believe we're only down by 5 and shooting 32%. Ugly basketball.

The Lake Show, etc. (K.G. overrated club),
I've also never really liked K.G. as a "winner" because to me he never did what it takes for HIS team to win.

Winners are flexible to their teams needs.

In Minnesota, his team didnt need him to score 20 and 10. His team needed 35 and 7 yet he refused to put his WILL on games and dominate the scoring.

Now, it takes K.G. to come to a team with 2 big-time scorers to win.

I respect K.G.s game, but he will never be high on my all-time list because of that fatal flaw.

they need to come back in the 2nd half w/o the shorts too.

Lakers cut it to 5 on that Baby B. turnaround. Baby B. over Big Baby! Ha Ha! All things considered, the Lakers are pretty lucky to only be down 5.

at least the celtics is gonna have that bad luck rim in the 2nd. switch!

It has to be the shorts making these guys so self-conscious...this is some poor shooting.

Now we got momentum.

Do it!

OK what is Kobe now, 3 for 19 and he continues to try to shoot himself out of this.

Again, against the BEASTS of the EAST, this is the shooting you get out of Kobe.

I know Ray Allen is laughing. The big 3 can really frustrate Kobe because they have each other and Kobe has a maturing group but he has to wonder if he has the star FIRE power that the big 3 has.

I feel like they're ganging up on the guy and he's trying to shoot them down with way too many FGA's. He's on pace for 35 shots.

The BIG 3 can bait Kobe into trying to match all 3 of them and shooting TOO much.
It's just a fact.

I wish he was making 50% of them but it's not even close.

I can't believe it. Kobe did shoot 1 for 7 in the 2nd just like in the 1st. So much for my safe bets. Awesome shot Fish!!!

That 6-0 run by Pierce to close the Q was huge. Luckily, Fish hits a prayer to cut it to 8. Lakers have to regroup at halftime, calm down and come back out and play THEIR game.

wolf
Stop crying about refs .
They have nothing to do with the score. Boston is a better team because KB has no help from no-show Lamar (the useless 7 footer, well... almost).

bake,

LO has 8/6. his layups isn't falling, but refs aren't calling fouls either. you need to see everyone, no one hitting their shots. find another target.

28 fouls in the first half?? At least it's even 14-14... I expect the refs to swallow their whistles in the 2nd half.

And can the Lakers please put on their regular shorts for the 2nd???

Thank you for that Korey. Agree completely. That team is full of non-winners. Collectively these guys have shown nothing. For all their years, the closest they've been is the WCF (I believe). Over-rated!

The Lakers are barely holding on at halftime.

By the way I keep seeing the Laker girls..and I miss the the 07 look thanks. I like to see more skin. Unless they brought Paula Abdul back than its ok (id still love to see the 07 Paula).

But to the game...the Lakers are lucky to be down by just 8 points. But obviously this wont cut it in the second half. Fisher needs to knock down open shots. Bynum has to go up for some lobs. If anything he needs to get them in foul trouble.

The Lakers lucky to be in this game because Kevin Garnett was out for the end of the quarter, as was Paul Pierce. But we are getting beat to the basket on fast breaks, rebouns, and everything else.

Lakers really need to step up. good thing is that they are showing flashes that they are over their star-struckness.

For those who have sopcast check this link to watch the game:
sop://broker.sopcast.com:3912/23597

Kobe needs to pass the Ball...This is what can KILL the Lakers...Ball hoging by Kobe. This the Kobe that makes him not even in the top 5 players this season...If Kobe was a leader he would make sure Bynum has more than 2 shots all half.If Kobe didnt have his teammates in this game they would be down by even more...Kobe play the game the RIGHT way!!!!

Can someone explain why we don't drive the lane when they are out of fouls at something like the 6 minute mark???????????????????????

Why are we settling for jump shots...AGAIN?????????????????

Why does Boston look like they've been rested for a couple of days?????????

Where's the energy????????? Where's the pride?????

The poor shooting tonight I blame to retro jersey they're wearing. They're seem bothered that their a$$ get exposed, just kidding..

you can't drain enough blood from KG to contain him. This is ON!!!

It's the half. We're not going to continue shooting so badly The Celitcs aren't going to continue shooting FT so badly.

We need to do a little more take what they give us. Set screens and get open jumpers. Run the offense for Fish and Radman. Let Kobe take the really open looks too and drive some to keep them honest.

Keep the Celtics in foul trouble and we might be able to win this one.

When I think about it, I still like KG, but it's very easy to dislike him in this uniform. He's a hypercompetitive freak like Kobe, he just talks more. It's like mixing Sam Cassell with Kenyon Martin with Kobe. Same beast.

Go Lakers!

Lakers will catch up in the second. They did not have a good half but still down by only 8. Boston is close to 45% shooting , so its not so rosy for them either .

Oh yes, I think the game's being called tightly enough.

Can we cut the calls in half or so please? This is painful.

Yeah, I saw Drew tugging on his shorts while waiting for Allen to take some free throws. Dude needs to get some love from the officials too because those are some clean blocks.

At least D-fish is doing a good job getting the Celtics in foul trouble. That minus 1 second three-point shot to keep things close brings back pleasant memories.

Lets hope that bad luck rim stays that way for the second half.

They MUST lose the short shorts at Halftime. It's working against them right now. Bad move by the PR department.

And Fish is a stud. He's a big reason for the success we're seeing this season.

We need to stop the one-on-one crap and start passing the ball. This game is a big heat check for the Lakes. A win would to wonders for their confidence.

If it isn't to kobe, the game may end up not that close in the first half of the game.

the night where they needed full concentration, somebody from the Lakers organization aproves this distraction, somebody should get fire

The Lakers came out sky high trying to prove their mettle against the team with best record in the NBA. At this point, the Celtics are playing with house money: even if they lose, they are still going home 3-1. They are playing free and easy.

Say what you want about Kobe, he still has 16 points. He's the engine that's keeping the team close, finding a way to score by getting to the line. The last time I checked, it's who has the most points at the end of the game, not who shoots the best pct.

Have faith!

I HATE THE FACT THAT RONNY T ONLY PLAYED 1 MIN...............WHEN THE WHOLE TEAM CAME OUT FLAT...........We needed his energy out there why take him out after that block to end the 1st...........lamar is trash to me how many (LAY-UPS) this clown going to miss...........PJ is a fluccing clown for leaveing him out there for that long.
Kwame is on lamar level they dont need to be here...... point blank period.........those guy's combine make 23-24 million WOW!!!!!!!!!!..........You know what star player we can get for that type of money..........WASTED MONEY..........

looking at the score, i was worried...
but after looking at the complete boxscore - I AM NOT WORRIED

because the lakers are matching up with celtics on every stats (except FG %, we are even blocks their shots 4 times vs ZERO blocks from celts)
I guess it's just a matter of taking those shots.

GO LAKERS

And just what I thought would happen. The Lakers obviosly distracted by the shorts went into the locker room and changed. This is too funny, but in such an important game...sort of dumb. I dunno the shorts look funny as well..but its an obvious distraction.

And really it is because it just feels different when you go up for a shot and so forth. It really does make a difference. Now lets see if it translates to their game.

Oh and the Laker girls are back to the new century!

Kobe maybe try passing first, just a thought!!

What a shot by Trevor!!!

It must have been the short shorts!
Change your shorts will you!

This is a travesty of officiating...but the Lakers have got to leave the refs alone.

Our guys can't play defense. refs what's up?

hey albert watch the game. the refs are acting really stupid this game.

Unfortunately, Kwame wasn't throwing the cakes while he was hurt.

Bynum needs to learn from this game. This is what is going to happen when teams with capable players start to pay more attention to him. Drivers will try to draw fouls instead of complete shots. Big men will try to box him out an do more.

Expect a little lull in Bynum's progress and he figures this out. Doesn't mean he's lost it, just means he is still young.

Also, Kwame is just Kwame. arrrgghhh wow! weeak!

Kevin Garnett, I hate to say it but he's showing us what we missed in not getting him.
He's a BIG GAME player.
Yes he is not a 1 man show but he is a star that carries his weight.
Ray and Paul do to.
That's what our supporters of Kobe have to do next, be ready in BIG GAMES.
That's the next level and that's what gets us into the 2nd round, the West Final, and the NBA Finals.

What a DUNK by GARNETT, nasty!

We still might sneak and pull this one out.

compton,

LO is the second leading scorer. stop hatin.

My god, Kobe is 5 for 19. This is unreal.
Back to the stroke he had before the Knick game breakout.
I don't know what's up.
We can't afford for him to shoot himself back into form though.

They should force feed Bynum and see what he's got tonight.

Ok... I was wrong about the refs swallowing their whistles... at this rate
all 10 starters are going to foul out.

Haha, what a game! This is incredible, what is it - 6 technicals?

For real, I truly love Ariza's hustle!

Kinda afraid of what Kobe will say after the game, though.

Kris from norway (time is 0600)

The funny thing is that, win or lose the SHORTS will be blamed...hahahaha...lol

A pro. team should be more mature than to concentrate on "short shorts" but this team is young ...

I can already see the ESPN guys talking about it...

"Lakers get down big because of short shorts!..."

"Lakers change shorts and mount a comeback!..."

"Hopefully next time they wont wear those shorts!"

That Fish 3 was just what the doctor ordered. Down to 6. Walk 'em down, L.A.!!!
.

Let's play some D and give ourselves a chance.

Back to back assist, thank you Kobe. Thank you!!

bad, bad refs. this is foolish.

Unaccepetable officiating. You call that block a charge on Kobe? Wow. The refs are complete morons.

This tight shorts castastrophy i put on the laker front office and P.R. department what a disaster, laker players look real tight and unorthodox subconsciously i know they hate the lame ass uniforms.Come on Jimmy Buss and wake up boy!!!!

THESE calls on the LAKERS home court???

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm........ I think I understand now why Boston is 25-3

Refs are making up for call both sides now... funny

Refs took us out of the game. Nothin left to be said.

Kobe needs to play the rest of this game. Lakers don't play again until Friday.
I can't blieve the refs in this game. That charge call on Kobe, and then Pierce gets away a charge. I know I'm not the most objective person in the world, but....

No home-court officiating advantage for the Lakes tonight.

Luke Walton can't be in the game playing like that.

That's just sad.

I can't believe the bullsh*t calls in the last couple of minutes. First Pierce
tackles Kobe and they call it a charge on Kobe. Then Pierce runs over Kwame
and they call it a block. The refs are trying their hardest to give this game to
the Lakers, as if the Lakers aren't playing bad enough themselves.

three turnovers to end the quarter, luke resonsible for two of them

ugly...ugly...ugly

TRADE F...G LUKE, HE IS AN IDIOT

Terrible finish to the 3 quarter. Kobe's shooting is so bad; it's killing us. Man.

I'm trying not to be a homer, but the refs have totally taken the Lakers out of
any kind of rhythm with all these calls.

the wolf
watch the game
Boston is way better team , this is they are up by 16

TRADE F..G LUKE

Once again, it's the Celtics that close the Q. strong. The Lakers just look out of sorts tonight.

This game was wrecked by the officiating. Has to be the worst I've seen all season.

This sucks. Kobe, how do you feel being totally outplayed on your homecourt by Paul Pierce?

why did phil jackson put all the bench on the floor during the worst stretch of the game??

This is ugly WE SUCK, THE WHOLE TEAM!!!!!!!!! I think all that hype had us really believing it, this is embarassing, we are definately not as good as we thought.

This Game isn't what we expected.. Refs control the game. Our guys can't get their shooting and the refs won't let us play defense. What the heck!!

Wow this game has been destroyed by the refs. It began with bad fouls on Bynum and Kobe. Now its non calls on the Celtics. Are you joking me? HORRIFIC officiating. Salvatorre is a terrible referee.

Also JOEL MYERS is a complete idiot too. the Lakers are getting ripped by the refs and they act as though nothing is happening.

This tight shorts castastrophy i put on the laker front office and P.R. department what a disaster, laker players look real tight and unorthodox subconsciously i know they hate the lame ass uniforms.Come on Jimmy Buss and wake up boy!!!!

Did I miss something? Why is Ronny not logging any minutes tonight?

why do we use a bum called Luke....
2 turnovers in 1 min span...against paul pierce ...that is ridiculous...
Kwame one more ...beautiful...3.15 sec we have 6 pt diff and now we have 16...f..k

Kwame, Sasha, Walton gave away shots from 6 points spread suddenly balooned to 16. What a pathetic contribution? This is a bad lineup for the Lakers. Where is Turiaf or Vlad in the bench mob?

I dont want Radmanovic on this team anymore.

Package him w/Kwame and good riddens!

This one goes to the Coach. How can you take out all your starters against the Celtics. The lead has balooned to 18 now.

GAME OVER... DON'T BOTHER WITH THE 4TH QUARTER!!

It looks like we played on a back-to-back night!!!!

Horrible effort by the Lakes!

Why is Kobe on the bench? What is point to save him now, why Phil is waiting

We just need to play...stop sulking and player laker basketball! PUSH THE DAMN BALL!

We are getting better but still teams like San Antonio , Dallas , Boston , Detroit and even Phoenix are better. I dont care who we beat and when , we are not the elite team . This is VERY GOOD , because we need change.
I was pretty annoyed by listening to all of the stupid myopic fans about Lakers being ready to win it all.
I like em this year , however this is not the finished product.

I can't believe I'm watching a bad game..

We're losing guys... looking at it in the bright side, the lakers shows weakness despite the wins they got from teams like Pheonix, Denver, Utah..etc.

They have to learn from this if they want to compete against the celts or detriot in the finals...

needs more improvement!

This is getting embarrsassing... getting smoked in your own house.
Lakers are still looking nervous thats why.
Lakers have to wake up and just play... and stop whining

I rarely questions phil jacksons coaching but the lineup he had in there towards the end of the 3rd quarter and the beginning of the 4th is very questionable

So with Kwame playing, the Lakers is now 1- 1.
I told you so...
Ship Kwame!!

Well, the Lakers need to file this one away. A frustrating, ugly beatdown by the C's. There'll be another day.

kobe has a bad shooting night and we can't compete agains an elite team...

We needed Kobe tonite and he did not come through...This is a growing experince for the Lakers...Celtics 3 veteran superstars, that team is not over-hype,they could very well be the best in the NBA.

Do we have a run in us?

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

th elakers jsut suck after watching this game, we no they are going to lose!!!
i thought they finally had momentum and shit. an the LAKERS suck like hell

lakers down by ten. luke checks in. lakers down by twenty two. luke checks out

Allright, Phil. It's about time to make a "strategic withdrawl" (i.e. retreat), empty the bench, and use some zen technique to somehow turn this unmitigated blood bath into positive motivation. You have disappointed us Lakers, getting your ass handed to you, on your home court, by the Celtics, on their 4th game in 5 nights on a West Coast road trip. Heaven help us.

I blame this loss on those short shorts. This Boston team totally schooled us tonight. I didn't see enough passing like the last games. I blame this loss on Phil. If he would have coached them right they would have started believing in themselves. I didn't see any energy and Kobe reverted to last year. What the hell. The Lakers have been wining this whole year by everyone contributing and looking for open men equally. This was selfish basketball. They totally played selfish especially Kobe. Hopefully they can learn from this frigging loss. Fisher and Kobe distributing the ball gives the team energy. There was none of it tonight. I hated this game because I know what they are capable when they try to CREATE PLAYS.....Even the comentators Stu and the other guy hardly spoke during the game.

Lakers need to close the game strong and get back to what is making them successful. Lamar wipes out Pollard almost intentionally....no call....These refs need to be sanctioned.

are they trying to showcase J-Critt for an upcoming trade?...packaged with Kwame?......and Luke?......hahahahahahahahahaha

I'm glad I don't get this game today on TV. Down 93-73 in our own building? WHAT IS GOING ON?

When Crit learns to play a little bit more controlled he will be all-star... u can just see it!

phil is a GENIOUS HE TOOK ALL THE STARTERS OUT IN THE THIRD KUARTER WHEN THE GAME WAS MORE OR LESS CLOSE AND THE LAKERS WERE STILL COMPETING SUCH THAT THEY COULD STAGE THE GREATEST COMEBACK IN NBA HISTORY MIDWAY THROUGH THE 4TH.

Phil doesnt play Critteron when we blow teams out. But he puts him in during important moments in big games. I/E This game and the knick game during the knicks run.

We let the refs take us out of the game. But hey some of those calls were terrible

And the Lakers officially got psyched out of this game.

But one great thing happened tonight. I am not old enough to appreciate the Lakers-Celtics rivalry. My memories of Larry Bird and Magic is Magic and the Lakers getting dominated by Jordan and Bird with an ailing back.
