A day of major, major scoops!
So large that I can't tell if I'm Woodward or Bernstein.
First, Kwame Brown will suit up tonight. Second, Luke Walton won't. Third, Lamar Odom's head star is gone. He's planning on bringing it back, but the vagaries of trick barbering were apparently screwing with his look. It wasn't growing in correctly. Odom told AK that he was curious if anyone would notice that it was gone. Are you kidding? We live to notice this sort of thing around here.
With Kwame, don't expect big minutes, but PJ seemed happy to have him back, another body to bang with Boozer down low. Kwame, for his part, was happy to be healthy enough to play ("There will be a Kwame sighting, thank God," he joked) and said he thought this matchup would be better for him than it would have been had he been on the floor against Phoenix. Less up and down, less high screen and roll, more doing what he does best- bodying up to a guy on the block. No talk yet from anyone on how his return will impact the rotation in the long run. It'll certainly be interesting to see how it plays out (call it a hunch, I think it'll be a topic of conversation on the site...).

MIKE T. WOULD BE VERY VERY HAPPY WITH THIS NEWS....

OK, just got to clarify some things.
I don't have anything personal against Kwame, he seems like a nice enough kid and I'm happy for him that he's a millionaire and has had to do relatively little for it. Normally, I'm all for sticking it to the Man, and you'd have to say that KB does that on a daily basis.
The thing is, you have to ask yourself, how can this guy most help the team? I was a fan of Mo Evans, but when push come to shove there was a point at which the best way he could help the team was to be traded away for Trevor Ariza. Got nothing but love for him, wish him the best, would even support re-acquiring him at some point. But business is business, and the truth is that the best way Kwame can help this team is to be traded to another team so we can bring in someone who will be more productive.
I totally agree, if Kwame were contributing all those things he is capable of contributing, I would be happy to keep him and re-sign him. But he's not. Dude has taken a month and a half to come back from a sprain. He's taking resources from this team that could be better used. If we can parlay Kwame's over-bloated contract into a player who has an impact on this team, I say do it.
On the other hand, if it can't happen, I'm not going to complain. If Kwame gets healthy and starts contributing again, that will be great. If he will re-sign with us after this season for a reasonable amount, fine. But right now, at this point in the season, his contract is way out of proportion to the impact that he is having on this team, which means he has tremendous trade value - since better players tend to make more money, we can trade him for a good player who is playing for a team that isn't going anywhere, anyway and wants to dump salary WITHOUT giving up too much impact. That is a tremendous opportunity, and I guarantee you all that Mitch is paying attention to every possible scenario.
The opinion that Kwame is somehow vital to a championship run is completely ludicrous. The simple fact is, the Lakers defense has IMPROVED this year, with Kwame playing in FEWER games. So, even if you think the Lakers need to improve their defense, it's pretty clear that Kwame Brown isn't the answer.

wow! seriously suprised

In regards to Mr. Brown, there are a few things I’d like to add. I think most of us here are die hard Laker fans, if you are a Laker we want to cheer you on; we want you to do your best every time you step on the court and we will respect you and cheer for you every night even if you are not scoring 30 points per game. The problem with Kwame is that he doesn’t try, it’s like he has this great body but absolutely no motivation, also as it has already been pointed he is injured often and it takes him forever to heal. Those two things are bad enough but what makes it even worse is the obscene amount of money he makes to sit on the bench.
Here’s another thing that deeply bothered me about him, he said something along the lines of “This is my contract year so I have to bring ‘it’”, I wanted to hurt him when I read that. Why doesn’t he bring ‘it” every night? Don’t the Lakers and the fans deserve his best effort every night? How many of you have been to a game recently? How much did it cost you? Going to games is not cheap, the least Kwame could do is put some work and effort into his game because unlike him most fans don’t earn millions of dollars.
I think one of the reasons so many fans love Fisher is because he always tries, some nights he can’t buy a basket but there’s never any doubt about his effort, he is not an all star, he does not always have 20 point games but he always tries, Kwame could learn a lot from him. Unfortunately this might be a case of “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” and he might meet the same fate as Smush. It’s really sad when you think about it because he could be great, he certainly has the body but mentally he is just not there, I mean why would he even try to get better if he still gets paid even when all he does is sit on the bench?
As you can see I was bored at work, my boss must be so proud.
*ahem, shall we start taking bets about how many times Kwame will turn the ball over?

I so look forward to Kwame's return in the same level of giddiness as Pat Riley had in recalling Smush Parker. As in "do we have to?"

Another thing -
It's not any surprise to anyone who is familiar with Mike T that he doesn't actually read the writings of his fellow bloggers. He's made it clear on several occasions that he doesn't view this blog as a place to exchange ideas with others. Rather, he sees it as a place to launch his career as a journalist. In his twisted view, the world just needs to see him in order to acknowledge his genius. He's like the karaoke singer who brings their own CD to Amagi's and dresses in costume because they just know there will be a record exec there to give them a contract. The best way to make Mike T go away is to IGNORE him - the more you try to argue with him, the more important he thinks he is, and the more he writes.

Say...wait a minute....on the earlier thread Mike suddenly had to leave and now Kwame's suiting up? Nobody's ever seen Clark Kent and Superman together, either. Hmm...
In other developments, DWade has 48 points for Miami in the last minute of OT, but the Magic are going to win. Welcome to the world that Kobe inhabited the last 2 years, Dwyane.

After an impressive road trip, it's big-game week at STAPLES Center. The Suns, Jazz and Celtics all visit the Lakers over the next seven days.

Oh-oh, the Star on Odom's head is gone, that's the guide of the three wise men. lol!
Super Kwame is back,,,,watch for the game plan - one step forward and two steps backward.

MAN, WHAT A REVERSAL OF FORTUNE!
I CAN'T IMAGINE MIAMI LOOKING THIS LOUSY! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE "15 MAN STRONG"??? AND WHAT HAPPENED TO "D-WADE ABLE TO CARRY THE TEAM"??? - ALL OF THE SUDDEN, HE IS WEAKER THAN EVERYBODY THOUGHT... 8-22 IS JUST PATHETIC... IF KOBE HAVE BEEN IN HIS PLACE RIGHT NOW... ALL THE WORLD WOULD HAVE BEEN SHOUTING HOW HE CAN'T DO THIS, AND CAN'T DO THAT... BUT THIS DWADE GETS A PASS...!!!!
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING TO THE MEDIA?

MIAMI IS LOSING IT. ..

This whole Kwame/Bynum thing is ridiculous. Entertaining, but ridiculous.
Uncle Mike is predicting the Lakers won't win a championship with "this kind" of basketball - basically Bynum first basketball.
We didn't win a championship the last 2 years either - hell, we didn't even get out of the first round. You can make all the excuses you want, dig into all the stats and whatever, but we didn't get it done. And that was with Kwame.
I'm all for whatever rotations work to get it done at center. Anyone who is dismissing either guy as a solid contributor is just off-base. That's the problem Mike - you've painted yourself in a corner and can't even give the Bynum kid his due, when it's obvious he's a tremendous talent. One-on-one defense? Kwame gets the experience edge, sure.
So what. If we need bodies up front, PJ should go for it. It's not rocket science to figure that out.
But everyone who dismisses Kwame makes a similar mistake. I think Bynum's growth is great for Kwame - it might just allow him to remove the pressure of having to be "the guy" and focus on his strengths. Maybe the competition will spur him on too.
They could be a two-headed monster that will dominate the center position. Revel in it. This whole endless debate is just becoming mind-numbing in its obvious origins - the ego of proving a point.
Let's just enjoy some dominant Lakers basketball!!

I'm glad Kwame is back now the Lakers can have 2 solid Centers, for anybody that think the Lakers don't need 2 GOOD big men to win a championship from the west, Look at the Spurs. They had Duncan when he was you, and Robinson who was a GREAT player but did not have it all, they needed a boost, and that is what Kwame and Bynam are a Boost, they HELP each other last longer.....
Good Lakers.... Lets stop hated Kwame and appreciate him. He's a free agent next year, and what would happen if he goes the the Suns?? Now who on the Lakers can stop him if they let him score? We forgot Kwame can score, but when his game is going other are not...
It's only 1 ball to score with.....
