Game Thread - Lakers vs. Bucks

November 21, 2007 |  5:01 pm

I'm in St. Louis right now and believe it or not, the Bucks don't merit televised coverage out here.  Go figure.  So take extra care to be my eyes and ears.

oh god white castle is beyond gross

Should've had this game tonight. Oh well, on to Boston and then back home for a three game stand. I believe our Lakers will continue to play well. Go Lakers!!!

This is a game to show that Lakers can jump to the next level, they're not ready yet. KObe and Larmar did not played well, i don't blame Bynum, Fisher,Vlad Phil called time out too late when Lakers behind 8 points, remember the game against Houston after Lakers lead 15 points. Bynum should not a starter he should save his energy for the 4th quarter, right now i knew Lakers have to put him in the starting line up. If Lakers will give Phil extension, i will stop to watch Lakers, i want to see a coach with active mind, energy, with desire to win. When i read newspaper and found out Milwaukee has 2 seven footer guys, i knew Milwaukee is not easy team to beat.

Great answer Mike! Idont feel like explaining it? Come on. You really contridict yourself. I mean in your post you mentioned how we were lucky the Pacers were missing all of those 3's last game, like it was a bad thing. Mike they were taking all of the outside shots because Andrew was doing HIS job inside!! It was a GOOD thing that they were forced outside. But somehow thats suppose to prove that Andrew isnt Physical enough? The Boston game is the one we will really miss Kwame, it will be a tough test for Andrew. But the last 2 or 3 if you count Chicago, since Kwame went down early, he has done his job defensively and done it well. Andrew is improving quickly and as a Laker Fan I am really happy about it.

MH

Laker Lover, you're right. Lamar Odom should've seen the schedule, marked this game as a 30pt night. Yi and Villanueva? He should've taken those guys inside and dominated them. Instead, he loafed and disappeared. He should've been dominating inside and setting up Vlad 3's all night long with Bynum waiting for putbacks.

Mike T,

PLEASE READ THIS AND TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO PONDER ITS WISDOM.

Your love obsession with Kwame is fatuous (that means idiotic for the less educated). Everyone knows Kwame is a pretty good one on one big man defender and that has some value. WE GET THAT.

BUT YOU ARE TAKING THIS WAY TOO FAR. Kwame is a poor help defender, doesn't block shots, and is a terrible rebounder. You say a team will pay Kwame $10 million per year as a defensive specialist even though HE DOESN'T REBOUD THE BASKETBALL. That is insane—please adjust your meds. Rodman and Wallace were defensive specialists but they blocked shots and rebounded the basketball. Kwame does neither—he never has and he never will.

NEWS FLASH TO MIKE T: Kwame is an offensive LIABILITY.

Do you understand what that "liability" means? It means he does more harm that good, significantly so.

Andrew Bynum is 10 TIMES the player Kwame is. Bynum blocks shots and rebounds. He will only get better defensively. Bynum will become twice the defensive player Kwame is.

Bynum is not an offensive or defensive liability. In fact, he is the opposite--Bynum is an offensive force and pretty good defender. The facts I have just stated are obvious to everyone in the world but YOU.

YOUR LOVE AFFAIR WITH KWAME BLINDS YOU FROM THE TRUTH.

Kwame does not work hard to improve, and he is notoriously injury prone. Those are FACTS. Andrew Bynum works hard to improve, and he is becoming a warrior.

Bynum's + - differential is far and away the best on the team because he is becoming a dominant center that directly impacts the game.

BYNUM WILL NEVER COME OFF THE LAKERS BENCH AGAIN--AND RIGHTFULLY SO. KWAME BROWN WILL BE RIDING THE PINE ELSEWHERE NEXT SEASON AND YOU WILL HAVE TO FIND A NEW PLAYER TO OBSESS OVER.

WAKE UP AND FACE THE REALITY THAT IS BYNUM'S COMINIG OUT PARTY……….cheers.

okay when LO's gone, then who's next? walton and vlad and their soft d? ronny getting in foul trouble all the time? sasha and his hair cut? phil's cane?
see its the same thing with you guys. instead of saying "you know, the lakers lost that one. we'll get them next time", you all play the blame game. if he didnt even play, would you guys really expect the same outcome? if you said to put in someone else, you guys are really stupid because you guys wanted everyone to be traded so you must not think to highly of them either! im not condoning LO's weak game, but single handedly blaming him for the loss is really stupid. he could use bench time to sort out his game, i agree with that. this guy averaged a double double in last years playoffs and you people that says he has no game should really be quiet. you dont know what your talking about. LO is NOT kobe. get it though your thick skulls. besides this new season, he hasnt played since those playoffs. even playing in the season last year he wasnt this bad. inconsistant, arguably. bad, no. get over it. if your going to criticize his game, fine. just dont blame losses on anyone because this is a team game. until the lakers trade him, just shut up.

this is a person who makes sense. good post! read up haters.

The odd thing is that in the end...Andrew Bynum is a good watcher of Kobe Bryant.

Bryant got called for the techical foul in the 3rd and then Bynum got called for one in the 4th...both arguing to the refs for not getting any calls. It was obvious that Bynum followed Kobe's lead.

If anything Kobe is like a parent who needs to watch what he says and does in front of his kids.

Bad loss tonight just because it was ours for the taking. The bench mob never came in tho because you could tell that Bynum and Farmar had trouble playing with Lamar and Kobe. That is probably are most talented line up but since they dont play with each other, they have chemistry issues.

But clearly..it seemed as though the two guys that I wanted to see have the ball was not Kobe and Lamar but Bynum and Kobe.

We lost this game because of Sasha, he only took one shoot, haha!

If we had Lamar in this game we win.

Did PJ declare him inactive before the game?

Tom has a point about Javaris playing. It was the the second of a back to back. He never plays. Hence he would have a lot of vented energy to unleash on defense. Not a good decision to sit him tonight.

Laker Truth,

Farmar was caught, but he wasn't as quick as he was last night either. That match-up really is a wash because they weren't all at their best.

Guys whose games depend on quickness tend to suffer most in back-to-back situations. It's just human nature. If you watched the game, the D just got worse and worse, little by little, as the game wore on. We still would have had them if they didn't decide to get white hot all of a sudden to begin the fourth.

Was Kobe the only one playing D at the end of the game? Only his dude didn't score during that stretch. It seems like absolutely every one else did, including some of the fans.

Laker Lover,

Bogut postiing up Bynum 2 feet from the basket is exactly the problem. The center's game is denying position before the play is set up. There's a difference between getting the ball 2 feet from the basket and between 5-7 feet from the basket.

It changes the whole defensive look of the game.

mike

I believe Mike T still is missing the point.

Of course it is a physical game. And of course the center's play is a huge factor.
But Bynum is playing really good. It is not great yet, but it's getting bettter and better by the time. And he is really young and have only few years in the league.
What frustrates us the most is a guy like Odom who is a 9-yr veteran and doesn't play up to his experience and paycheck.
If he had played just an OK game, then what Bynum gave us last night at center would have been more than enough to get the victory.

I know that Odom is still out of shape due to injuries.
But it is even worse blaming a young guy who is playing very goog like Bynum because some of his veteran teammates aren't playing as near good as they were supposed to.

Give Bynum a break man. He is developing really well and is on course to become a star in this league.
It is not fair to expect him to play like one of the most dominant centers of the league this soon.

Wow, Peter Vescey said on NBATV that "Le Bron is a legit franchise player, unlike someone else who claimed that he is but he can't do it...take it right to the top, Kobe Bryant. He thought that he could carry the team by himself but he really can't." Does this guy have a history of hating the Lakers?

" Lamar is, and has been, an overpaid player, but he is what he is - ....
This is not a new thing so get over it."

Why get over it? It's November and the FO is open for business.
Is LO the best fit for the present team? Sometimes. Is that enough?

Watch him throw a triple double at Boston.

Go Lakers

Wolf,
Kobe defended Redd very welll, he gave a lot of energy on defense to keep the Lakers on top. Red got away a couple of times with the screen and roll because the bigs could not turn Redd away after the screen. That was Kwame's MO on defense. Kobe had to take the shots on offense. When Bynum was in, the pass goes to Bynum for easy lay ups. Mihn was a disappointment and Lamar was MIA. The bucks played great defense and they also adjusted well to Farmer's speed. The game was lost because Mihn was in the game for longer than necessary and Lamar MIA. By the time Bynum came back the harm was already done and the Bucks had the momentum.....difficult for the Lakers to stop. Kwame would have been a big help with his hustle on defense. I sure hope that Bynum can learn that from Kwame and he will be able to take over from Kwame.....

Happy Thanksgiving Lakerblog

Last night was the first real test for Bynum against a true center not named Yao. You can't argue with 16/13, and getting the opposing center in foul trouble off the bat. A very good start, but it looked like Bynum wore down a little bit there. Kwame would have came in real handy in the 4th when Bogut was back and fresh after missing pretty much the whole game in foul trouble. Bogut can be a beast when he's healthy and foul safe. But he's got some of the slowest feet I've seen since Gheorghe Muresan.

We can't win all of them. We need to come back on Friday and play a good game against the Celtics. You can probably chalk that one up as a loss, but I'll be happy if we play hard and keep it close at the very least. I'm expecting a big night from Kobe. If there's a game that we'll see Kobe-ball, this will be it. I hope he does well while keeping things within the team concept.

Mike T,

You wrote: HE BREAKDOWN:

You saw it! Andrew Bogut scored 8-points in the 4th quarter. But it was the last 6-points that I want to bring out. ANDREW BOGUT was posting Bynum! ANDREW BOGUT!

When Bogut scored his 2nd basket of the quarter that gave the Bucks an 86-83 lead with 7:31 left in the quarter. By the time Bogut scored his last point the score was 99-90 with 3:16 left in the quarter.

What caught my eye was how Bogut was calling for the ball. What does that say? Reputation! Bynum doesn’t put fear into the low post players and Andrew Bogut isn’t what I would call a big offensive low post threat.

I told you that Bynum would get the big numbers but that in the end the physicality of the game is going to come in and bite him. And Andrew Bogut isn’t even a physical player.

Look at the scoring by quarters for the Bucks. There was 17 in the first, 29 in the second, 29 in the second, and 35 in the fourth. That equals 110-points. What did I tell you that the Lakers would give up per game? And the Lakers didn’t play a bad defensive game. The physicality of the game just took its toll within the structure of the Bucks’ offense and the Lakers’ defense.

It’s subtle, man! Those 6 little points Bogut scored in the lane in the 4th quarter weren’t based on Bogut’s physical nature. It was based on Bynum not being a true physical defensive presence in the middle.

Before Bogut scored at 7:31 the Lakers were only down by 1-point. And like I mentioned when it was all said and done, by the time Bogut finished the lead was 9-points.

In the long run it’s going to get worse. The game is all about physicality and don’t you forget that!

My Response:

I actually stopped by to see what you were going to say. I had been
thinking about Bynum starting instead of Kwami and what that
would mean in terms of defense and in terms of the chemistry of
the 2nd unit.

If I have understood you right, every game that Bynum starts I
can expect the point total per quarter to increase
[ 15, 18, 20, 25 for example ] for the opposing team?

hobbitmage,

Yes! But all we have to do is just watch and see for ourselves.
