Everything a go for L.O.?

All signs point to Lamar Odom making his season debut Friday night against the Timberwolves at Staples. Rather than ease him back in with minutes as a reserve, though, Odom will go ahead and start (makes sense- if he can play, he can play). He's likely to slide into Luke Walton's small forward spot, leaving a much-improved Ronny Turiaf to start at the four. This would be great news for Turiaf, but Ronny will tell you he's not surprised by his play, even if others are. Dude's more than simply an "energy guy." On the injury front, Mo Evans likely won't play on Friday, while Kwame Brown received treatment at practice Wednesday, and is still day to day.
The Lakers would like to get Phil Jackson wrapped up with an extension, but PJ is still holding out. Could be to see how all the 24 business shakes out, could be to see how competitive this team might be. Could be to see if his hip holds up, too. Or likely a combination of all three.
The souring of the Kobe/Dr. Buss relationship isn't just having an effect on the Lakers, but the Bulls as well. And while it's still early, every Chicago loss will just raise the volume of the Kobe whispers even more. In the meantime, Bryant's supporting cast, who have been reasonably so thus far, need to see themselves as something bigger.
Interesting breakdown today on TrueHoop about the Summer of Kobe, and how the process of reporting has worked.
For those of you who would like to re-live Tuesday's loss... For others who relish in the slow decline of Shaq... For others still who dream of landing major, blue chip lottery types next spring...

Luke coming off the bench now is huge.
I just hope that it is nothing seriuos with evans. We need his defense in certain sitaution.
Turaif is the man that hits that little mid range jumper that keeps the defense honest.
LO can now play point and let Fisher and Kobe roam.
Kwame and Bynum now have help on the boards becuase we are now the biggest front line in the NBA which will cause alot of matchup problems.
Teams are not going to know how to defend us.
What we have to worry about is defending the other team.
Crit is going to have to play at least 9 min a game so that point guards like Paul don't go nuts like that. Crit won't let that happen without making Paul play defense in the post like Cassel did last night.
I am so happy that LO is back now that Turaif has taken that power foward spot.
Kwame and Evans have to stay health so that Mihms, Cook and Karl can inactive.

Jorema:
Thanks for posting the article previously about Kobe's hurt feelings. To tell the truth, this is the closest I think to hitting the nail on the head than any other article out there. It's also what I've posted before, that this isn't about being surrounded by talent or winning, it's about being disrespected.
Of course, you hand me $22 million, and I'll let you disrespect me all you want. Because deep down, I know who I am. I think maybe Kobe doesn't...
Anyway, let's please let Kevin McHale know what we think about him stonewalling us on the KG trade. Let's win big.
And if not, well, let's win.

AK;
Slow decline of Shaq? How about the swift decline of the Lakers? You're mentioning Shaq when the Lakers are what - a 500 team? Silly gradeschool stuff. Probably feels great to Kobe lovers, though, and that is all there is to the Lakers. Kobe does so much for the Lakers - he keeps them in the news and at 2 and 2. Wow - fantastic! Unbelievable! Undeniably transcendent! I should buy courtside for this team, I mean - they are just electrifying in their pursuit of average results. Can any of you imagine Chick in all of this? Good thing about Chick is that he had no patience for bull - that was important to all of the Laker championships. Think of him when you look at these Lakers - you folks think that Chick would be on the 55-win bandwagon, or KOBE for MVP bandwagon? Chick would've been disgusted - as I am - as you should be.

i take it back...
Turiaf should be our Starting P.F.!!
-->Fish/Kobe/Odom/Turiaf/Bynum = Starting Line-Up
...i still think Bynum should be our starting center, experience is the only thing that will teach him to stay away from picking up them silly fouls + he is becoming more efficient game by game.
then would u look at our main bench rotation:
-->Vlad Rad/Walton/Evans/Farmar/Brown
yes sir... DADDY LIKE!!!

AK/BK,
That Neiman article is probably the best that I've seen on this whole Kobe-Lakers squad. Just another good piece on your new site, good job.
I think this team has some guys that believe that they deserve to be out there with Kobe. Hopefully as time goes on they get the stones to even call Kobe out when he does wrong and they know it. There was an article I read about the Shaq-Wade relationship where D-Wade said how shocked he was the first time he called Shaq out on the court for messing up, how Shaq responded positively to it, and it led them to building the rapport they needed to win the championship.
I've noticed in the few games this season that Andrew Bynum seems to have a bit more of an "attitude". Even Kobe commented on it. If he can keep developing that, LO can get a bit of a "give me my respect" chip on his shoulder and Ronny can keep trying to prove he's more than Dancing Barry v2.0 this team is going to surprise. I think the work and energy we're seeing on the floor, even if execution is lacking at times, is indicative of the mental approach and growth their showing.
Could be a fun ON COURT season for Laker fans.

Paulie,
Calm down. You are unfairly assuming that anyone who supports Kobe is not a Shaq fan. I will always remember Shaq's contributions to this franchise and will always root for him. We Kobe "lovers" support Kobe, and are Jim Buss haters, not Shaq haters. Don't get that confused. Shaq is also a Buss hater, so we are all in the same (sinking?) boat.

I agree, that is why we go with the starting line of
Kwame - defense at C (keep guys of the block, rebounding)
Ronny - defense at PF ( hustle , rebounding)
Lamar - defense at SF ( taller than virtually all SF , athletic , tough to shoot over huge rebounder)
Kobe - defense SG ( stealing and the 2008 version even blocking)
Fisher - defense at the PG ( smarts, veteran , toughness, stays at bay and doesnt go for to many crazy steal , yet knows knows when to get his.
This is our best DEFENSIVE Line- up , So if we can improve in DEFENSE we will be great. We definately have the players for it.

Its about time the role players say "Kobe doesn't think I'm any good? F that isht. Watch me prove you wrong." That's the attitude anyone should have when someone speaks ill of them.

I agree with you lineups. I feel PJ though is gonna still Start Kwame/Mihm at Center and have Bynum off the bench. Whether if it is the warm up ankle issues, or he just prefers the older players to start (in the center position in this case.)
But I'm definitely in agreement with the lineups you proposed.

While you're looking at potential lottery picks, consider that Marc Gasol is currently
considered to be the MVP of his league in Spain. There's a link to an article on
sport.es on hoopshype talking about how well he's doing.
Next season if Mihm and Cakeboy both want to get a big payday and won't sign for what
they're actually worth, the Lakers should bring in Gasol on a 3 or 4 year contract and they'd
be set at center for a few years without breaking the bank.

Andrew Z - I think the year could be fun, up until Kobe gets traded, and we have new players to integrate into the offence. I'm just saying that because I haven't seen or heard anything indication Kobe's changed his mind on that. Kind of makes it hard to get too excited about anything I see on the court, although some of the youngster's play is nice to see.

Michael A,
I think Buss is going to make Kobe stay unless he gets just a killer deal from someone else. I applaud him for that. I still don't think Kobe will ever opt out, he'd be leaving way too much money on the table. All the media guys said Kobe would sit out camp and he showed up (too much money on the table) and I think the same will happen when his opt out comes up. He'll back off enough publicly, say the right things, but in the end cash the big check.

AK/BK,
It's no secret that some athletes are adorned by the media and some are crucified, whether justly or unjustly. It is also no surprise that some shock-jocks, like T.J. Simmers, produce only biased works.
What I have had difficulty understanding is the media's inherent love for Shaq. He may be a friendly guy, and it's not doubt that in his prime he was one of the greatest (i personally loved watching him go to work down low), but he has also been very arrogant publicly over the years.
From his self-proclaimed nick-names, to his calling out teammates for not getting him the ball, hes been doing it for years. It's again apparent in the article you posted. Although, Stein and the article speaks to his declining skills, no one speaks to his derogatory and arrogant response to reporters.
"I'm still the baddest [expletive] in the world," Shaq said. "Yeah, I'm getting older, but Kareem got older. Hakeem got older. I don't need earthlings' respect. When it's all said and done, my name will be there and it will be mentioned ... unless you earthlings try to erase it."
You mean to tell me if Kobe said some stuff like this it wouldn't be all over the news? Come on now. He would be called the most arrogant sports figure ever. Calling the media earthlings and presupposing he's a god. Moreover, although I don't think this should ever be something of issue, the details of his divorce have been quiet. Other players would have garnered more attention, even details MJ's divorce got spilled out into the media.
So my question is: are members of the sports media just afraid to call out Shaq, or is it because his sound-bytes over the years have sold papers?

>>>K Bros via nowlive.com it doesn't count against the cap. Though I do validate the
>>>fact that we shouldn't pay alot of money for those two.
Well, yes and no. Everything counts against the cap. I think what you're trying to say
is that the Lakers own their Bird rights so we can offer them any amount of money,
regardless of the fact that the Lakers are over the cap.
The problem is that Mihm and Kwame are both big men. 7 footers generally get paid
more than their worth in the NBA, so I'd say there's a 90% chance that there are at
least a few teams in the league willing to pay Mihm or Kwame at LEAST the MLE.
I wouldn't pay that much to keep Kwame, and I'd only pay that much to keep Mihm if
he shows significant progress from where he is at this point.
If either would come back for 3 years at 3 million a year, or something reasonable like
that, then they'd probably be worth it.
>>>If Marc Gasol is being considered for Spain's MVP, that's absoulutely great
>>>news! If we have a front line of 4-5's of Bynum, Turiaf, Mihm, Kwame and Gasol
>>we would have the Tree's!!!! (SF's Would be LAmar, Vlade, and Luke...)
Like I said, if Kwame and Mihm are coming back for 3 million each, I'm down with that.
If either of them gets an offer of 7 million a year from some other team, I'd let them walk,
though.
>>>That's great news regarding Gasol and thanks for passing that on!
Let's hope Sun Yue makes as much progress. :-)

You are not alone, my friend. In fact, one of my roommates is a Laker fan. Of course, he's from Israel, so he wasn't born and raised on the Purple & Gold, but I don't hold that against him. Which part of town do you live in? Tim-4-Show used to live up here - West Seattle, to be exact. I just moved into this swanky house over in Madison Valley (just a few blocks east of Capitol Hill). Great part of town. So easy just to hop on a bus and go out to get hammered at any number of close bars.
So, it looks like my other comment got erased, but here goes: Did anyone notice in the Hornets game that Chris Paul was rolling the ball up the court before picking it up so the 24 second clock wouldn't start? Isn't that kinda bull? I mean, obviously it's allowed since the officials noticed it, but that should change. It gave him extra time to set up the offense.

Long Time Laker Fan,
HERE IS YOUR HEADACHE OF A TRANSLATION:
The progression of Marc Gasol does not have limits and the career of the now center of the Akasvayu Girona is being meteoric. In 1996 'it exploited' with the Spanish selection that conquered the World one of Japan and its disembarkation in the Akasvayu was the recognition that needed. Private of minutes of quality to grow like the player in the Barça, the team of Girona has permitted him to give the leap of quality that caused sensed its play. The excellent sensations offered in their first campaign in the club of Fontajau are being expanded amply at first of this exercise. The numbers are there and they do not lie: in six days disputed of the League ACB, Marc Gasol already is the better player valued of the competition by in front of consecrated names in our league. The center of 2,15 and 22 years accredits an average of 23,7 points ACB what serves him to head this ranking.
Already it was elected better national player of the month of October and in two of those six days disputed up to now has managed to be the MVP. In the second, before the Vivemenorca, Marc to put an end to 27 points, 7 repercussions and 38 points of appraisal, what supposed a new private stop. Besides, the medium one of the Gasol achieved thus to surpass the best appraisal of its brother Pau during its epoch ACB that was of 37 points, achieved in its last party in our competition before giving the leap to the NBA.
The second reward arrived this past day in the trail of the Polaris Murcia. In that party the center noted 21 points, he captured 14 repercussions and he received 8 lacks for a final appraisal ACB of 37.
The impact of Marc Gasol in our competition is, pués, undeniable. Various statistical data vouch for this affirmation. Thus, besides heading the ranking of appraisal, is the second maximum scorer of the League (17,8 points of average), the second player that more shots of two and more free shots throws and the third that more you lack receives of all the tournament.
To level of the Akasvayu Girona, the prominence of the medium one of the Gasol is evident in the plans of Pedro Martínez. It is the player that more minutes is in trail (31), the maximum scorer (17,8) and rebounder (5.8), the better second to block (0.5), the one that more you lack receives (5,8) and, of long, the best valued with those already acquaintances 23,7 points of average by encounter.
This player formed in the quarry of the AXA FC Barcelona is showing with facts that deserves an important role in our league and nonexclusive by carrying the surname Gasol. It debuted in the League ACB in the 2003 with the joint one blaugrana but is being in these two last seasons where is 'exploiting' as the player and showing all its qualities. Still with 22 years (the 23 January will comply them 29, 2008) its margin of improvement in all the facets of the play is still evident. But, for the time being, already we have there commanding the ranking ACB, that classification that reflects to the perfection the performance of a player. And, for the time being, the arguments of Marc Gasol are many and various.
In June expires its link with the Barça The next one 30 of June expires the contract that joins with Marc Gasol with the AXA Barça. Marc was yielded by the club blaugrana Al Akasvayu in the 2006 for two years. This summer, the Barcelona had the option of repescarle paying a quantity but the center preferred to continue a season more in Girona since in the Barça barely had counted in its day for Dusko Ivanovic. The next one 30 of June, therefore, Marc will be in disposition to decide its future. If it opts for continuing in the ACB, the AXA Barça will have option to exercise the right of estimate before any offering that arrive him Al center, although is very probable that the club blaugrana do him an offering of renewal Al player. Al margin of proposals that other clubs of Europe arrive from him, another alternative is to test the adventure of the NBA. Los Angeles Lakers have the right after electing it in second round of the past draft (number 48). What course will take the career of Marc?
