And that's why Troy Hudson is known as the NBA's 'King of Clutch'

October 10, 2007 |  7:58 am

(UPDATE, 10.11: We're in the air this morning, so you'll have to discuss the news amongst yourselves... hopefully comments will get pushed through reasonably fast.)

Actually, Hudson's mostly been known of late as an oft-injured dude with a contract Minnesota deemed quite regrettable (and a rap CD the consumer deemed quite forgettable).  But he did can a jumper with a tick on the clock, supplying the Golden State Warriors a 111-110 win over the Lakers in the purple and gold's preseason kickoff.  Kinks were exposed on both sides of the ball (and Kobe's still getting used to his new role as "Kid Facilitator"), but it's also early and the box score listed a "DNP" next to Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom and Luke Walton's names.  At any rate, a preseason loss is certainly not as big an issue as those keeping Jeannie Buss sleepless during the off-season, so that's certainly comforting.  Besides, y'all need to maintain some smiles, because someone needs to cheer up The Critter.

There's a lot of optimism surrounding the return of Derek Fisher, a role-playing winner throughout his solid career.  And according to the man himself, "winner" is what Kobe Bryant looks for on the resume of a potential co-worker.

"Of course KL crucified me. My point was, it wasn't about wins and losses, but attitude. We KNOW Kobe has it. We KNOW Javaris has it. And we KNOW FIsh has it."

i'm insulted with your remark. i actually hold you in high regard because, unlike most bloggers here, you actually play the sport.

i wouldn't crucify you.

I disagree with you on kobe being a "winner". kobe has not demonstrated that trait since the 2002 season. "winners" always act gracefully and not "hate" on others...

you notice how kobe was acting like a kbiatch when the scrubs made the 12-0 run? that's the behavior of a "loser" hating on other's success.

lesson learned: success breeds success.

KL,
"This is what happens when you try and transform a ballhog into a playmaker....it mixes as well as oil and water."

AND I GUARANTEE YOU WHEN KOBIATCH GETS TIRED OF THIS TRANSFORMATION, KOBE BALL WILL COME BACK. HE'LL CALL OUT PJ FOR RUNNING THIS STYLE. HE'LL BE UPSET ABOUT OTHER PLAYERS LIKE CRITTER AND VLAD OUTSHINING HIM.

MARK MY WORDS.

ZAKEE,
"Same goes for a black quarter back. Can't win in football with a black quarter back. "

I KNOW NOW YOU ARE A YOUNG WHIPPER SNIPPER. LET ME BRUSH YOU UP ON HISTORY.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS WON A SUPERBOWL WITH DOUG WILLIAMS AS THE QB.

DO A HARI-YAHOO SEARCH FOR THE NAME DOUG WILLIAMS #17 FOR WASHINGTON REDSKINS AND A QB OUT OF GRAMBLING STATE COLLEGE.

YOU'LL RESCIND THAT STATEMENT.

JOREMA,
"Go ahead, brothers and sisters...enjoy and dream happily with bubbles of soap, stars of fugacity and those false oasis in the dessert. "

THIS IS A STRAIGHT UP KOBE APOLOGISTS. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A LAKERS FAN. JOREMA WILL BE GONE AS SOON AS KOBIATCH IS GONE.

TAOS,
"I'm not bagging on Kobe at all, it just seemed EVERYBODY knew he wasn't going to shoot, he was so intent on passing the ball so that let the Golden State players drop off him and swarm the others, like Bynum on one play"

WHEN YOU'RE A GREAT FACILITATOR (COUGH, COUGH, LEBRON JAMES) YOU'LL GO OUT THERE AND DO THINGS IN RHYTHM. I'M PRETTY SURE PJ DIDN'T TELL KOBE TO GO OUT THERE AND JUST PASS, PASS, PASS. BUT THAT'S LIKE THE KOBE OF OLD AS YOU REMEMBER BACK IN 2002 OR 2003 IN THAT KINGS GAME WHERE HE QUIT SHOOTING AND JUST PASS THE BALL AROUND TO PROVE A POINT.

T ZEB,

Please, man. Please. Do not encourage them.

This chihuahua sure does bark A LOT! Someone, please, give it a “gordita” already! hahaha

My...

Kwame says, when asked if he'll play tuesday:

"Everything's possible. It's possible we won't wake up."

There is so much wrong with this statement, I wouldn't know where to start.

Brown is so glib about preparing himself, the Lakers should show him the same dedication:

"it's possible we wont re-sign you"

Or maybe:

"It's possible we'll trade you somewhare like Canada or Utah or Mississippi or Guam."

Looser.

Wes

i hope that VLAD's J is here to stay.
i hope that Sasha keeps that intensity that he always has in preseason
i hope that j crit develops into a chris paul type player

just a short wish list after 1 exhibition game. peace.

Gunner

"AND I GUARANTEE YOU WHEN KOBIATCH GETS TIRED OF THIS TRANSFORMATION, KOBE BALL WILL COME BACK. HE'LL CALL OUT PJ FOR RUNNING THIS STYLE. HE'LL BE UPSET ABOUT OTHER PLAYERS LIKE CRITTER AND VLAD OUTSHINING HIM."

i hope this won't happen, but i wouldn't hold my breath. I'm really curious to see if kobe starts acting like more of a kbiatch or be a professional and eat his humble pie like a man. i suspect kobe'll act like a kbiatch. at this point, i wouldn't mind trading kobe away if we can get the right deal, but i think kobe's stock has fallen considerably and i wouldn't bet on kobe to be the missing link to win a title if i have to gut my team to get kobe....check out Chicago.

I think kobe'll end up leaving in free agency or realize that a 31-year-old isn't worth as much to a team looking to rebuild. kobe'll end up like Charles Barkley/Clyde Drextler/Scottie Pippen in Houston for one last chance to win a title assuming you find real players (don't give this Maion and JO crap...2nd tier all-stars if you ask me) willing to trust their last 2-3 seasons with The Malcontent.

you think a Ray Allen or Paul Pierce will want kobe as part of the Big Three? i think no. kobe's too selfish. All i hear coming out of Boston from the Big Three is how "unselfish" everybody is acting. i'd like to see KG win a title eventhough i can't stand Boston Fans...

Oh and memo to bynum..... a couple of guys that come in to mind who made a name for themselves in the league who didn't necessarily need to score; Rodman...Ben Wallace...Marcus Camby...and recently Tyson Chandler...and some dude named William Felton Russell. He might have played for some team in Boston...well u get the idea....

for the most part those guys had the hunger to grab every ball that clanked off the hoop and also to swat whatever was coming at them in the lane...

just a thought. no big whoop.

well, I'm sure this post will appear 3 hours from now, the LAT being so efficient and all but I didn't want that tiny part of my post used to bash Kobe. It just seemed Kobe came out to try and "facilitate" and in doing so, completely turned off his shooting drive and Golden State was either prepared for this or noticed it immediately. So that's just something they'll probably look at the tape and work on. I really didn't see any big deal with being blown out in the first quarter when you have Mihm being torched, Fisher getting abused and Golden State making just about every shot they took and then... we brought in Cook... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! IT'S A DUNKFEST! Man! I've never see such lead feet on a person! You would think he's out there wearing thigh high leather boots. LOL!

I don't see Mihm starting or even backing up when the real season begins, he can stay under the grandstands keeping his ankle warm until we really need his big 6 minutes of play, mid-way through the 2nd quarter.

Last night’s episode:
I would have to agree with a few of you on last nights recap

Mihm: did not have much elevation or explosion on his jump I will give him the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up with rust, I will say this he didn’t look like he was 100% confidant on that ankle he had his shot blocked and he wasn’t able to grab rebounds in traffic.

Cook: need I say more, again lost on defense fouled players out of frustration it’s almost like he wants to be traded.

Bynum: looked ok, but got lost on offense at times. Didn’t get a lot of touches, I think he did a good job working in the paint with out the ball but like someone posted early could not seal him man and when he did we did not get him the ball. Rebounded well though

Radman: looked great shooting, got lost on defensive assignment at times but not as much as last year I think he will improve on that and tried to rebound better than last year.

Ronny: looked well on both end of the floor I still not convinced that he should start I was excited about the idea but I need to see more.

Critter: looked great I hope he can keep it up all season.

Fish: it’s good to have veteran leadership at point guard. He did look a step slow and blew a few lay-ups as usual, but ill take that over I have no emotion, I’m from New York, and have a smushscalde any day.

Coby/ Brown / Patterson: didn’t see much action last night hard to evaluate.

Sasha: looked ok it nice to see him not settle for just jump shots and take it to the rim.

Jordan: made better decision in the offense and ran it better to help get us back in the game late, but could not hit a shot for the life of him I would agree that his height is going to hurt him.

Then again it’s just preseason or should I say exhibition games

This is those times when kobe would "prove his point" by passing the ball, but do nothing else to help the team like passing then setting a pick to free up someone else. remember the 2nd half of Game 7 against PHX?

New Kobe=Old Kobe=The Big Malcontent

Last year, I watched a pre-season battle between the Bulls and Spurs, and Chicago dusted their ass, big time. Obviously, we know what happened last spring. This is extremely early action, where the goal is to play out the rust, work on offensive/defensive sets and to see how some of the fringe players react to real game situations. There is virtually nothing that will be predictive of the regular season results here, other than giving us an idea of the basic fitness and skills of the players. There were some positive indicators - I like what I saw of Javaris, and it seems that VladRad has got his stroke back. Other than that, it was just fun to see Lakers basketball again; the football season is dull this year, and baseball is almost over. Thank God for hoops!

Just chiming in about last night's game.

Kobe kept the ball moving as guys struggled to execute and be in the right spots. It was clunky but that was to be expected. What is pretty evident though is that if Kobe isn't going to be a ballhog and play the role PJ is designing for him, the onus is on his teammates to step up big time. Last night they didn't and clearly were outclassed. Hey, it's preseason but it's also the GSW. When the team is in rhythm and healthy - the question remains - are they talented enough?

Ronny and Vlad looked comfortable out there. Mihm looked stiff and Fish looked old but reliable. I saw some improvement in Bynum - a little more aggresiveness - but his instincts have to improve (for rebounding and blocking shots) which hopefully will happen with experience. Farmar looked like he forced the issue too much. Sure he led the B squad back by consistently getting to the line - but how often in a game is he going to be in that situation? Him forcing shots or trying to create plays rather than working within the system, especially when he's on the floor with starters, isn't going to get him very far with this team and coach. The kid may turn out to be Tony Parker but if he cannot try to be that guy too early to the detriment of his teammates.

Regarding Critt - What people have to remember is that these players thriving in situations where they're the head scrub on the floor rarely presents itself during the regular season. How do they handle playing the final 3 minutes of a quarter when the player ahead of them gets in foul trouble or needs a breather? All our bench guys need to be productive a lot more efficiently, frankly, than the guys who play more minutes - simply because they have less time to do it in. They're stepping onto a moving train and if they don't make a mistake while their on the floor, I'd consider it a success. That's why guys like Danilo Pinnock and Von Wafer couldn't succeed in the system and the rotation. These guys (like Critt) are scorers who look great when the burden is on them to create their own shots and score - But they wilt when they have to come into a game cold and hold their ground for two minutes against real opposing guards without making mistakes.

Gunner24 never heard of sarcasm!!!!

Guess what you not even worthy and I did not want to disrespect the real 'Chihuahua' dog. I thought it would sound better spelling it 'Phonetically' because you are such a 'Phoney'. Who knew you could even use an Internet search engine. Its a shame you cannot use the same engine to make sure your basketball theories and information is correct.!!! LOL I forget you don't need to bother, you have got KL next door telling you what you need to write.!!! LOL

P.s try using an original thought instead of hashing out someone else ideas.

KL is the 'Top Copy' while Gunner24 is the 'Carbon Copy’!! LOL

But I do commend you effort, keep trying and maybe one day you will emerge from KL's Shadow. But as with every eclipse it only last a few seconds and disappears never to seen again to next KL Eclipse!!! LOL

Aaarrrhhhh!!

Angry_Laker

Zakee,
Nice try, but the Bulls of the 90's had at least 3 white players on it.

Gunner24,
Doug Williams played good in ONE game. Enough Said there. Every dog has his day right?

Now, I'm not racist by any stretch!

The Celtics of the 80's had like 5 white players and they still won championships. That is only because they had the greatast white player that ever lived in Larry Bird.

Crittenton is good...

but lets not get carried away. Exhibition game... plus his 18 points doesnt mean he's the NEW savior...

like bynum (who still moves the SAME as i expected) crittenton will need 2-3 years before he can be an impact player. But would be good if he helped us this year. He might, but im not surprised if he couldnt.

People are suddenly going gaga over his performance, precisely how rookies fall hard to the ground... one good game - all props... then 2 ugly games - BOOM.

Lets see how this goes during the regular season - WHERE IT COUNTS.

Good game by Radman tho.

Here is a Gem for you Gunner24(KL's Trash Can)

Lebron’s career turnover average is 3.3 per game
Kobe’s career turnover average is 2.9 per game
Wade's career turnover average is 3.8 per game
Carmelo's career turnover average is 3.1 per game

Please comment because I am sure that we all want to hear what KL's "Toy Hammer Man" has got to say !!!! LOL

Angry_Laker

Lakergurl - chill out- I never made any comments about Garnett saying fu to Kobe for chooing the Celts. Does that make me a fan of Kobe, no way!

Did you see Kobes pathetic defense last night?

Question for Kobe apologists-

What can Kobe play tough defense for the US team in meaningless games against the sisters of mercy teams, yet when it came to a pre-season game with the team that PAYS him? Hhe looks totally dis-interested in playing D.

Cant use the they needed him to score excuse, since he was faciliatating most of the 1st half. Me KL and Gunner could have put 20 up on Kobe with that defensive showing.

From Dfish

"I can take the pressure off Kobe and still do the mentoring off the court," he said. "He needs the freedom to be Kobe, and I can shoulder the load as far as leadership and morale and keeping the guys together. I want Kobe to focus on dominating games and leading our team."

Translation- Kobe cannot be a leader because he is too focused on his own game.

TO KL and Gunner, and to ak and bk

ive been reading this forum for a few years now and im surprsie that the moderators forum are not doing anything to stop the bs that klo and all his alter ego are doing this supposed to be a forum where in you can get qulity info on the lakers and whats happening opinions are ok wheter positive or negative but when you let a blogger like kl to get away with all the hate i guess this how you sell the site show the hate a lot of the laker fans are going to other site because of the hate you get on the times you cant even post a positive without getting a hate message from a racist like kl or all his alter ego...why dont you moderate and lessen his useless post...i guess his gonna reply by saying im a ahole and a kobe lover im alker fan and i love the lakers for better or for worse and it doesnt matter if we have kobe or shaq as long as we have a winning team no f##k #p blogger like kl...

Gunner24 (Carbon Copy)!!! Bulls' ticket main office

"BTW, HOW'S THOSE BULLS SEASON TICKETS GOING?"

Sorry I would not know but I always thought you would since you are main provider and biggest seller of 'Bull' on this blog !! LOL

Why do I bother, its all too easy, please, please can we have the original article because Gunner24 (Carbon Copy) is running out of toner and will soon be just a blank copy with nothing to see for all KL's hard work!!! LOL

Aaarrrhhhh!!

Angry_Laker

Watched the game.

The highs:

Critter looked good as an offensive weapon. Fisher looked solid and played smartly except for trying to score right under the basket on big guys. Farmar looked really strong except for his shooting (vintage Tony Parker on one lay-up). Sasha eventually looked like a decent scorer, as did the b-ball player formerly known as Rambo once he got some shooting rhythm. Ronny looks like he's always improving and looks like maybe he added a little range. Strong effort on both ends. Mihm looked pretty good to me even though he was a little rusty. Effort on both ends, but the stats suggest he played badly. Free throw shooting was good.

The lows:

Turnoves were ridiculous. Kobe played badly in the first half. The GSW defense was ridiculously strong against Kobe, swarming him almost every possession and upsetting his game a bit (this could be exploitable in the future though). Patterson and Brown were forgettable and not good. Bynum was too slow in collecting and shooting the ball despite his obvious reach and athletic gifts. Cook's shooting was horrible. If he can't shoot, he should be cut. The other players that shot poorly have other useful abilities. Cook does not. Too much space was given the Baron Davis too. Rambo was lost on defense a number of times. Kobe was unfocused and that's not good. 6 turnovers in 20 minutes is bad, bad, bad.

The in between:

Mo Evans just looked okay to me. Nothing better than his average play in last season's games. Karl didn't do anything that looked awful, but he also didn't do anything that really helped. Kobe gave Azubuike way too much leeway. Sets a bad precedent. Defense looked like they were trying, though they were failing a bit.

It looks interesting. And we don't even have Odom, Walton, or Kwame Brown yet. If we improve on defense and execution, we could do well.

I think the point guard competition is going to be fierce. Everyone playing that position looked good in some ways. Farmar is going to be third if he can't find his shot though.

Excerpts from the article:
"Bryant has been moved to the role of facilitator in the offense, with the aim being a more up-tempo feel and fewer sets depending on one-one-one play by him in the wing."

i.e., quit being a "F-ing" ballhog and pass the rock to your teammates KOBE "ME ME" BRYANT!

"Jackson said he wanted to see Bryant "throwing the ball ahead, pushing guys to run, using lead passes to encourage passes."

Funny how when you pass the ball, often times you get the ball back.....unless you're passing to Kobe Bryant of course. Again, quit being a gawd damn ballhog. Pass the rock. Pass the rock.

Nice game... I still maintain that this season will be a good one for the Lakers... 3 year with the TRIANGLE offense says a lot for PHIL's teams...

Turiaf will start at PF along with ODOM at SF and ANDREW at Center...

Man, the KID ANDREW is such a talent... I think he will help us big time this year manning the 5 rather than Mihm or Kwame..

And KOBE, well, you know, KOBE is K_O_B_E... like no other. persistent... consistent... hardworking... deffensive minded... and will power...

Go lakers!

Go KOBE!

i love what ronny has to say in the new lakers training camp camp video:day 7. He's got the heart of a winner!!!! RONNY FOR 6th MAN!!!!

I noticed Javaris’s disgust after the telecast. That’s the kind of Attitude I like!

and you were right, Kevin. The kid definitely did impress. He’s got a bright future ahead of him!

THIS YEAR IS LAKERS YEAR!!!!!!

http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2007/10/10/exhibition-1-warriors-111-lakers-110/

"Crittenton’s lob pass to a spinning-then-dunking Andrew Bynum (totally reminded me of Brian Shaw’s beloved spin-lob play to Shaquille O’Neal, and “Critt” and Bynum have become good friends already) had given the Lakers a 95-93 lead."

As Chick Herns would say: Magic to Kareem...sa-lam dunk. Shaw to Shaq...sa-lam dunk....J-Critt to Bynum...you know the rest.

Kobe who? ah, kobe to kobe...mustard is off the HOTDOG.

Attention to the Kobe Lover's who saw fit to curse at me and other laker fans who called out The Malcontent.....i'd advise you to blog at KB24.com....strengh and dishonor.

i don't hear "kobe's the best player on the planet" anymore.....hell, even Staples24 is becoming more moderate as a blogger. The die-hard kobe fans are hiding until kobe goes nuts and jacks up 30 shots enroute to 50 points.

KL,

You quoted Ding's Blog:

Now Bryant is being asked to set teammates up before the triangle is really set up, too. Jackson wants the Lakers to look for more early offense on each possession. He said he wants Bryant "not to come out of the backcourt with a thought in mind of how it's going to happen down at the other end of the court."

Actually Kobe proposed the idea to Phil Jackson in 2001, at least according to Phil's Book. Kobe's idea was to attack the defenses before they had time to set up, and Phil countered that it takes an intelligent player to recognize the weaknesses while running the ball. And letting Kobe run the offence like he did during the 2004 finals is a testament to the trust Phil Jackson has in Kobe.

MJT

i HOPE ALL THOSE WHO ARE LIARS AND FULL OF UNFOUNDED AND UNSUPPORTED FACTS' BLOGGERS, I WOULDN'T EVEN WNAT TO MENTION THEIR NAMES WILL SHUT THEIR MOUTHS...

HERE IS WHAT GARNETT HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE OFF SEASON THE WAS.

"dealing with personnel with a different front office" and "different coaches" and suggested the questions about the Lakers' front office (which found no complement this summer for Kobe Bryant) mirror the questions about the Timberwolves' front office he'd just departed (which had found no complement for Kevin Garnett)."

Indecisive, guessing around, triying to be active but he doesn't know how.
No offensive rebounds, just defensive ones.

He played ok guarded by dudes like Chroshere and the other left handed warmer bench.

If Bynum is the great promise, the great hope, how come we still extremely weak inside the paint?

Stop. I don't hate Bynum.
He isn't responsible for the great hype created by Jim Buss about his potential.

JEROMA, ANDREW DID HAVE 3 OFFENSIVE REBOUND. THIS IS PRE-SEASON GUYS... IF WE WOULD HAVE WON, EVERYBODY WOULD HAVE A DIFFERENT COMMENTS IN HERE.

COMMON NOW, LET'S CHEER OUR TEAM!!!1

GO LAKERS!

KEEP UP HATERS! - "FOR EVERY GREAT TEAM, THERE ARE ALWAYS BE LOTS OF HATERS..."

Blogging is like going to an intersection with automated traffic lights. Once the lights are off, you can find bottlenecks and get turned off to take the route. As AK/BK said they are in NY conducting seminars to their Knicks counterpart on how seduce new bloggers by systematically mixing haters and lovers, poets and authors who are in quandary waiting for the next reply while we get sleepy in reading the last posts of Gunner calling someone chihuahua 3 hours ago. Tired of waiting of too much ado of absolutely nothing, we too get complacent and imitate the defense of Cook, because it is just a preseason deal so who really cares?

lakers_sth, you said:

"from the OCRegister article:

Asked Monday if it was possible he would play Tuesday, Brown answered: "Everything's possible. It's possible we won't wake up."

----------

Just let that marinate a little bit."

Oh, brother, I have been marinating. Where is Tonya Harding when you need her?

I think Kobe should have ranted, "ship Brown's A** out!"

How bad are you as a player when GM's don't want you when you can singlehandedly give them a free $9 million on next year's salary cap? I mean $9 mil is $9 mil. How come he's so hard to move?

You know why? 'Cause he SUCKS!

Think about this carefully. When a team trades with us for Kwame, they are basically being payed $9 mill next year to take him off our hands this year. And, they _still_ don't want him.

Dude SUCKS!

--FearlessWhackJob

ZAKEE,

That's some pretty offensive stereotyping you got there. "...you can't win in this league if you have more than 3 white men on your team."

How about a team of Dirk, Pau, Nash, Hinrich, and Peja. They'd win a few games...

"WHEN YOU'RE A GREAT FACILITATOR (COUGH, COUGH, LEBRON JAMES) YOU'LL GO OUT THERE AND DO THINGS IN RHYTHM. I'M PRETTY SURE PJ DIDN'T TELL KOBE TO GO OUT THERE AND JUST PASS, PASS, PASS. DON'T YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY?

THIS IS PRE-SEASON! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO BE? NUTS?

RELAX NOW, MY MAN... BROWN IS OUR BEST DEFENSIVE BIG MAN, DREW IS OUR BEST OFFENSIVE BIG MAN, AND MIHM IS OUR STEADIEST BIG MAN... HE AND MIHM AND DREW ARE GOING TO DO DAMAGE COME PLAY TIME...

I really wish he would study tapes of Shaq though. I want him to be an intimidator on defense. He doesn't control the lane yet like Shaq does and Shaq is older and slower.

Cobe - Won't have much impact this year.

Posted by: zen | October 10, 2007 at 11:22 AM

ZEN, Andrew is not shaq, and will never be Shaq. His game is nothing similar to Shaq, it's more of a Kareem, Hakeem Olajowon type of game. I like that better... Plus he can make his free throws, which SHAQ, never will... well, SHAQ can sporadically, that is.

Kobe's role by PJ is clearly going to be different from last year. And its the benefit of the team overrall. Kobe having six turnover is not a bad thing. Kobe has to be just consistent that he will push things through his teammate and he will be the facilltator of the team. As long as he stays on the goal and what PJ wants him to do on offense it will work out. I think its a good sign that the very first game the lakers played this season that Kobe is already passing. Hopefully teams strategy will start to change that Kobe will be more of a facilitator this year than last.

You guys will see that Kobe's six turnover game yesterday will be a blessing in the sky. At least his teammates will know kobe will let go of the ball when they are in their spot, and they wont be surprise to see him pass to them. They will expect it and they will be prepared to execute appropriately. I think Kobe does not want this role, and right now he is pooting about it. But as the season progresses Kobe will enjoy his new role.

But I appreciate that Kobe is doing this even if he does not want to. Think about this, Kobe is the best player in the league, and hes the one been asked to change his play, not his teammates. He is making the most drastic change, and hes our best player. Kobe will stick to PJ's script even if he does not, and he will love PJ for it.

We will make something out of this season, yeah its been all gloom. Yes KL and gunner have made our lives a living hell, but they will eat their words. We have been down, and we will get up. We have Kobe, we have PJ, and as long as those two champions are together, they will show up and put their best feet forward.

For some reason I believe with our mini additions, and the changing of philosophy in training camp we will succeed past expectations. I do know we are going to start of slow, like we did last night against the warriors, but come Jan. everybody will be talking of the lakers. All the changes we have heard about, and if they stick to the script they will be okay.

Kobe will be a laker for life, and that will make me a laker for life
Lets go LA, its our time to shine one more time again.
If you don believe, get the f out.

Lakers all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disclaimer, I am a big Shaq fan so my views may be biased. I think he is one of greatest centers to ever play the game. I followed Shaq to LA and became a Lakers fan. Although Shaq has moved on I am still a die hard Lakers fan. I've been reading this blog for several months and this is my first post. There are a few points I would like to make.

First, although I have respect for Kobe's mad skills, I think he needs to improve in the teammate/leadership department to solidify he position as a legendary player. Here's hoping for the Lakers sake that Kobe makes strides this year and grows as a teammate. Nobody is perfect and I think watching his develop over the years has been intriguing as a b-ball fan.

Second, to KL Beast and Gunner24, what in the world is wrong with you two? Your daily venom is illogical, ill-reasoned, and borderline insane. You both are childish, unproductive members of this blog--by my count you are the only two posters that can't write a coherent statement. I know a doctor that focuses on celebrity obessions/maturation issues. I am happy to send you his information. I am truly concerned and I serioulsy want to help. I become a dumber person when I forget to skip your garbage posts--and I am a Shaq fan that is aware of Kobe's flaws. Seriously, your hatred-filled ignorance brings down the entire blog, rendering this otherwise good blog unreadable. Please seek help.....alas, you won't, you will continue to type in ALL CAPS and make idiotic points that make no sense and in no way resemble a rational thought.

Third, Mike T., what fantasy world are you living in? Please tell me you recognize that you have created a PJ fiction, a fiction that is in no way based on facts or logical conclusions stemming therefrom. And please stop with the reposts already. Reposting fantasy does not make it reality. You seem like a nice guy. Come back a join us here in the real world.

Finally, Mamba24, thanks for your humorous posts and daily wit. You and the other posters on this blog (sans KLBeast and Gunner24) make it fun to be a Lakers fan, even through these tumultuous times.

i just watched the game on tivo and my observations are...

bynum sucks... never had it never will... from all the press he's gotten about his improvements... i didn't see it... if you're a 7 footer that constantly gets outrebounded and blocked, then you don't have the will to be in the nba... i've completely given up on him.... jim buss you're an idiot....

javaris... great addition... we got lucky with this one... he's got what it takes to contribute immediately... if phil will let him play....

farmar still can't shoot open jumpers.... too bad as i had high hopes for him after last year...

cookie sucks.... period....

mihm.... is lost.... a hustler but lost.... it'll take a while....

radmanovic is trying to make up for last year in the first game.... i can see him losing his touch by december....

sasha.... oh forget it.... just let his contract run out....

ronny is my guy.... but he's a bench player at best....

coby karl... i need to see more....

fisher... i'm glad he's back, but unfortunately we need more than fish....

kobe is not a facilitator.... wtf is phil thinking... you've got the best shooting guard in the game and you try to make him a point guard... stupid.....

for all the injured players.... kwame.... stay out... you're more productive throwing birthday cakes.... biggest bust in the history of the nba.... i mean that.... luke... new contract and already sitting out.... must be a walton thing.... lamar... i'm rooting for you.....

defense.... sucks.... same as the last three years.... we should just go to a zone....

yes, it's only the first game of pre-season, but you can see plenty by the way the players play.... how do you get blown out in pre-season... by an 8 seed team at best... i'm not impressed....

no wonder the haters on this blog are having the time of their lives bashing everything lakers.... i bleed purp and gold, and i'm just depressed because this team is proving the haters correct.... please lakers prove the haters wrong this year... i beg you.....

sixonezero,

We are all hoping for the VLAD jumper to stay, just like he did in SEATTLE...

"Everything's possible. It's possible we won't wake up."

There's nothing wrong with that. You're just looking for a reason to say anything.

ZAKEE'S IGNORANT / RACIST / BIGOTED COMMENT WAS:

"I hope that this doesn't hurt anybodies feeling, but you can't win in this league if you have more than 3 white men on your team.

Same goes for a black quarter back. Can't win in football with a black quarter back.

Not saying that it can't be done, but the situation is very RARE!"

ZAKEE, THANKS FOR OPENING YOUR MOUTH AND REMOVING ALL DOUBT THAT YOU ARE A BUFOON. PLEASE GOOGLE DOUG WILLIAMS, WARREN MOON, RANDALL CUNNINGHAM, AND DONOVAN MCNABB. ALL BLACK QBS WHO HAVE EITHER WON THE SUPERBOWL, TAKEN THEIR TEAM TO THE SUPERBOWL, OR TO A CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP.

IT IS BECAUSE OF SMALL-MINDED MORONS SUCH AS YOURSELF, WHO FEED INTO AND PERPUATE RACIST MYTHOLOGY, THAT WE AS A CIVILIZED SOCIETY MUST STILL IN 2007 TOLERATE EPISODES SUCH AS JENA, LOUISIANA AND COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY. DUDE, GROW UP, OR ONE OF THESE DAYS YOU'RE GOING TO PISS OFF THE WRONG PERSON AND GET YOUR A$$ KICKED.

It's 7:20 PM here on the sexy coast, do you know where your editor is? The last blog is timed 3:56 PM. Pretty sure it ain't due to lack of interest. Does your little subie leave work at 4?

They say the Times are written at the 6th grade level English, but who knew it's because that's the level the editors read at? Even before 4PM they were cranking out a couple of posts per hour, a little slower when a particularly long one showed up. One word of advice - Ritalin baby..

Derek:

you mean our first string that didn't include 4 of last years starters????????
