Some light pre-media day reading

In case you need a little something to kill time before BK and I start posting material from the El Segundo kickoff.  Since I'm literally about to head to the aforementioned media day, there isn't enough time to present everything in the witty, clever style that has propelled BK and I to E-List cyberspace celebrity status (among readers based almost entirely in Southern California).  But hey, y'all are literate and can figure out the gist of the articles on your own, right?  Ain't like you're dropping by the blog for the fancy pictures.

Yes - A NEW DAY - A NEW MONTH - A NEW THREAD

And the Lakers front office, in an attempt to restore the glory of our proud heritage, does....

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

WELL SAID - from an article on ESPN

"The two-time defending NBA scoring champion pushed for an upgraded roster after the Lakers were eliminated by Phoenix in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year last spring.

It hasn’t happened.”

HEY MAMBA -

I know its a tiny thing, and I promise not to develop an ego like Shaq, but dammit the "We Are Out in the First Round Again if Kupcake Doesn't Get off His Ass and Do Something" Bandwagon is the first one I've actually STARTED (9/28 at 11:34 AM) in two years on this blog and I'd like my name first.

If you don't put my name first I'm going to demand that the K brothers trade me or I'm sitting out training camp :-)

can someone tell me what time the festivities get underway today? thx

Come on Mamba24 - post your five page preamble.

"Well I guess Kobe Bryant's ego has been humbled.
Phil Jackson is old enough to provide internal maintenance to his ego but it's been humbled too.
Big Bad Jim Buss won this summer.' Lakerbake.

I understand your point.
Now. I think a more appropriate phrase will be just to let the water run dry, since this GM Lakers office had decided to
continue his train of ill advised decisions or not decisions at all.
They think the best approach is just avoid to made a mistake. That's the mediocre way.
In letting this team as is, some think this GM is taking a risk. Contrary to that, they thing that avoiding a mistake is better that make one. Also fro them is better to have a overachiever team that a underachiever. Of course this approach show that this guys aren't served for their jobs.

Is not about Kobe as many pro-Mitch bloggers are eager to signal, is about the challenge of improve your squad, is the cowardly of let the ego ruin a wonderful possibility of competing to win it all.

Is the vision we get from this past events: the future is gray. We no longer have in Lakers brass people with the talent to restructure the franchise as happened in the pass. We have a novice, who doesn't know anything about basketball and a lame duck GM, who is just to weak to ask for independence and decision making powers in his job.

hey Jorema, feel like making anything else up? Phil was on AM 570 today and SMASHED your lies into little pieces:

Kareem is working with Bynum
Craig Hodges is working with Farmar and Crittenton

whaddaya think of them apples, Chappy? LOL!

http://www.570klac.com/main.html

click on "Phil Jackson-Dan Patrick 10/1" at the 11:00 mark...

Yes, K bros. Let's get this season rolling. The Lakers will be bringing home an NBA championship this year. Shock and awe, baby!

Thanks for the tidbits... I will anxiously await the real news after your visit to media day. :-)

Only one question: DID HE SHOW?! Ok, two questions - how was his mood?

Listening to Phil on Dan Patrick this morning didn't exactly instill confidence that he and Kobe are communicating, and that Kobe is ready to go.

Sam Smith: "We're at a critical point," conceded Jackson. "Players [once] jumped to get the opportunity to play with the Lakers. It meant an opportunity to maybe win a championship. Now we have to compete real hard for free agents."

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/cs-070930smith,1,6113541.column?coll=cs-bulls-headlines

"We have to compete real hard for free agents" said Phil Jackson.

Kobe's response during the Garnett sweepstakes: Act like an immature a-hole pointing his fingers at others when kobe could have done more to convince KG to play in LA and win championships. How about a phone call? How about inviting KG for lunch or dinner? How about ANYTHING BUT NOTHING?

As Long Time Laker Fan said (paraphrase)...."kobe DID NOT have a phone conversation with KG"

What did we get? As jay jay eloquently pointed out..."absolutely nothing".

Lesson Learned: Being the "best" isn't always the recipe for success. One has to have humility when dealing with others....in all facets of life.

Perhpas kobe "me me" bryant has finally learned his lesson? Perhaps not?

Can't wait for more news. Mamba24 you're up with the roll call buddy....

Charles

So, does Kobe show up early to media day (like a leader)? Or, does he show up late (for dramatic effect)?

If I’m Kobe (which I’m not, as noted by my lack of huge ego and ball skills), I’m the first one there. I get to the office before Mitch Kupchak. I greet everyone on their way in. I make sure to reach out to each one and rebuild what’s left of the bridge IMMEDIATELY. I get it over with. I say my piece to my teammates as individuals and make sure we are good moving forward.

Then, when the cameras are on and interviewers are trying to make a mess (good for newspaper sales) the team is all on the same page. Everybody is ready to go to war.

I think the emotional atmosphere is the most important thing today. Guys will SAY the right thing. But, how they feel is what will affect our TEAM play.

The non-LA writers are big time Laker haters.

If Kobe says something other than "No comment", you've got to let us know. And of course we expect pictures, most of us are barely literate...

Hey, Hook us up with some PICS of all the players would ya? I am way out East so we don't get a chance to check out training camp updates..THANKS..

Lakers will be just fine this year... Kobe has too much desire to win to tank it and the pieces that we should have had last year are now healthy.

Bynum is stronger and seems to have plenty of desire himself to be the best he can and is saying that right things about Kobe. He is from Jersey - he probably would have been honored to be traded for Kidd!

Vlad -- who knows - at least he isn't starting the season injured like last year. Looked decent when he played.

Kwame - I would love to see him learn how to play power forward better in the triangle. He seem comfortable at Center - but we have Chris and Bynum there now.

Mihm - nice to have back - hopefully it won't slow down Bynum's growth even more though. Maybe he could play PF as well! (LO should be SF I think)

Fish - can't wait to see him taking those 'charges' again. He seems to know where to be to sell those. Of course he hits the bigs shots alot as well - wonder if he or Farmar will start?

Farmar -- tons of heart, maybe not big enough, but I think should end up a really good leader.

LO -- I surprised he even could play last year after all that he went through before the season. Hopefully he will be assertive this year and not watch Kobe as much. I would love to see a better 2 man game develop between those two!

Anyway - just my unsolicited 2 cents on the Lakers.

Go Lakers!

Lakers Sign Free Agent Andre Patterson
(AP) LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent forward Andre Patterson.

Terms of the agreement were not released.

Patterson played for the University of California, Los Angeles, before transferring to Tennessee.

He played last season for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League.

Patterson also played for the Lakers 2007 Summer-Pro League team, averaging 4.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in four games.

I hope TJ Simers has sharpened his claws...Grrr!

Something wrong with my posts that are not wrong with anybody else's? No biggie - maybe I should breath fire and brimstone? OK - here goes: MAMBA24 - WHERE IS YOUR PREAMBLE? DID YOU GET A JOB?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BALLAD OF THE LAKERS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The doubters sat waiting for them to fail
Training camp came and they began to jell
L.O. looked like an allstar to be
Kobe appeared to be the new MVP
Bynum came out like the second coming of Shaq
Can I believe my eyes Sahsa is on the attack
The Lakers appeared strong and stood tall
And Kwame, yes Kwame caught every damn ball
Dfish kept all of the crew in line
Not one Laker was heard to whine.
The triangle my friend was a thjing of beauty
Even Scootie and Michael had to come to see
The season started and wouldnt you know
In November The Lakers beat every damn foe.
December and January went the same way
The Lakers became the Team, teams were afraid to play
They held to under ninety the high flying Suns
That was the same game Kobe scored 101
The regular season ended and they were so great
They broke the Bulls record they were 74 and 8
Then came the Playoffs and Im sure that you know
They ended up winning 16 in a row.
9Rings became 10 which made Phil the Best
For three years in a row The Lakers ruled the West
For each of those years Kobe won the MVP
Then Kobe retired and handed Bynum the Keys

A Bynum quote from media day:

"All he wanted to do was make the team better," Bynum said of Bryant. "And Jason Kidd [part of a proposed trade for Bynum] definitely would do that. All he did was make me work harder. I'm good with everything. I just know that I want to be as good a player as I can be."

Good attitude. He used Kobe's media circus to motivate him to work harder.

I don't know what is about to happen this year, but whatever does happen, I will always be on KB24'S side!!!!!!

Let's Go Lake Show!!
Show KB24 that you guys are just as hungry as he is!!!!!!!!!

Kobe answers the question, "does he want to be a Laker?" Simple, he is a Laker and will do what he can to make the Lakers worthy of the goal he shares with the fans: have a team capable of winning (Lakers are 19 in Mark Stein's opening Power Rankings at ESPN). Which means, implicitly, FO also has a job to do... if they have the talent and will to do it.

Bynum says of Kobe's tirade, "All he did was make me work harder." I don't expect that was really Kobe's intention (or the emotion that guided him on the spur of the moment), but by defining high ambitions for the team Kobe actually did something to make a teammate better. Isn't that what his critics say he doesn't know how to do. And maybe there are more ways than one to make teammates better.

If Andrew really is significantly improved to the point of playing that inside role consistently and dominantly, I don't doubt that Kobe will make every effort to get the ball to him. But if Socks is visibly better in his movement, consistency and control and Kobe doesn't do it, I'll happily join KL's and Sonny's camp. But honestly that doesn't seem to be Kobe's game any more. Early in his career, it was clear that while he brought a lot to the team and never lacked the desire to win, his focus was on his image and career, possibly (let's be indulgent) because he felt that his own personal success -- and his self-confidence -- would also be important for the Lakers' success. From a purely psychological point of view, this attitude was probably highly productive. One key factor was of course Shaq's presence, but both were necessary: i.e. the dual egos. I suspect that Kobe even made Shaq better by challenging Shaq's monstrous ego with his own. Don't forget Shaq's droll remark, which he cherished for eight long years: "I've won everything, except in college and the pros".

So maybe "making teammates better" isn't just smiling, saying nice things and passing them the ball like a hot potato. Maybe it's challenging them to prove their worth.

Well, i just hear on am 570 that Kobe was indeed late to media day... great leadership skills.
Everybody on the plane. Lets just put it all behind us.

Sorry brothers, I couldn't resist. After a summer hanging out on on y'all side of the fence, I've returned to the only side of the fence that matters: WINNING!

If Kobe says he's ready to go, then I'm rolling with him. Period.

I'm looking for "fancy pictures".

Its a new day and the KOBSTER is back, lets not RECYCLE the same arguments about the FO anymore.
We all know that Mitch is a disaster.
But with all that pressure from the Mamba the LAKERS would have made some moves by now if he could.
Nobody wants to help the Lakers and most importantly we don't have the pieces to deal, and whoever doesn't see that is blind.
And the Mamba knows that and like the ultimate pro that he is , he will be on fire again this year!!
GO LAKERS!

very disappointing you can't get ANY info from this message board at a time when there is so much interest. Perhaps the LAT could convert to some kind of system that allows people who have posted before to continue to post when there is nobody around to moderate? The "evil" posts could quickly be removed a short time later... this is just... really disappointing... 1:30 PM now and the only posts up are the ones from 9:19 AM...

For those who are interested,

Here's a Link to a sample of what Kobe said at media day.

http://allaccess.am570radio.com/ilo/blog/2007/10/01/101_kobe_speaks_at_media_day_1151_am

I'm NOT quite ready to have my name on the 55-win bandwagon, but I'm riding on the Andrew Bynum breakout bandwagon after hearing about his workouts this summer!
I say give this core group one more season. The core to me is Kobe, Odom, Walton, Bynum, Kwame, Farmar, Mihm, Fisher, Evans and Turief. Do what you want with Cook, Sasha, Karl, etc. Keep the Critter too!
If they lose in the first round or worse, blow the thing up. PJ will probably be gone anyway. If they get the Western finals, maybe some tweaking can be done then for '08-'09.
I say be patient.

Mamba,

In the interest of blog unity I will not object should you choose to comply with the above request from JayJay.

Hey bloggers...

Take a look at the photo gallery in the Lakers media day article from Steve Springer:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/lakers/la-sp-lakemedia2oct02,1,3335797.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nba-lakers

The last one, with Bynum, is priceless.

Taoshum,

Lets not get too excited now. Kareem's been working with Bynum for the past two years. That's nothing new. It remains to be seen if that will finally translate to success on the court... and if it does, I'm sure nobody willl mind if you say "I told you so".

Hi all,

It seems like the Jim Buss experience might be over. Loose Cannons reported that Jerry Buss is taking over the Lakers day to day operations again which is hopefully going to bring in some changes if needed this year according to statements at media day. You can listen to it on 570.

Phantom

http://www.insidesocal.com/lakers/2007/10/media_day_recap.html

"The most awkward moment of the day? That would be when Kobe crossed paths with Andrew Bynum. You know, Bynum, the guy Kobe REALLY wanted to ship to New Jersey. Kobe gave Bynum a shake and an emphatic pat on the rear, and they went their separate ways.

Finally, the media got a crack at Kobe. He spoke mostly in platitudes and didn't do much to address the events of this summer. Kobe said he was focused on winning and bringing a championship to L.A. and that he didn't believe there would be problems with teammates."

Fodder here for both Kobe haters and Kobe fans. On the one hand, Kobe talks about bringing a 'chip to LA, which undercuts some people's claims that he's not committed to winning (a ridiculous notion, in my opinion). On the other hand, there's the whole Bynum thing. If Drew becomes a viable starting center this year (like I think/hope he will), and if Lamar stays healthy, this team will win 50 games, and this mess of an offseason will be water under the bridge. Otherwise, Kobe demands a trade and we rebuild around Bynum, Criitter/Farmar, and whoever's left.

BYNUM ON KOBE...

"All he wanted to do was make the team better. Jason Kidd would definitely would do that. All he did was make me work harder. I'm good with everything. I just know that I want to be as good a player as I can be."

Mamba, add me to the Bynum Breakout Bandwagon.

Tom

Andre Patterson ... wow. Good work Mitch!

Somehow Bynum's workout reps don't make me confident enough to predict more than 4 wins in the first month. Olawakandi had some impressive workout sessions in his illustrious career as well.

Given the tough opening schedule, Kobe may opt to hop on the Bulls bus after the game on the 18th. And that is the worst part about doing nothing in the offseason. With no new faces, there won't be a honeymoon.

AK:

I was nice to see KB24 in a Lakers uni and smiling as he hugged Fish. All will be OK in Lakerland.

Tom

Taoshum,

I'm probably going to hate myself for asking you a question, but ....

What lies has Jorema told about Bynum? [ It is common knowledge that
the Lakers hired Kareem to work with Bynum. Phil Jackson has repeated
what was said two seasons ago and last season. ]

[ You were referring to Bynum, right? ]

"Kobe says he is ‘ready to go,’ and that his role is to get the best out of the players on the roster."

BYNUM TO KL : "F-U"

"All he wanted to do was make the team better," Bynum said of Bryant. "And Jason Kidd [part of a proposed trade for Bynum] definitely would do that. All he did was make me work harder. I'm good with everything. I just know that I want to be as good a player as I can be."

Hey K.L

If you listen to what KG said in his press conference and the reports it does appears that they did have contact. But what went down I think is actually worse then doing nothing, I think Kobe could not assure him that he would stay if he did come. This is one of the main reasons I have been apposed to any big deals that involved Bynum because I think with Kobe it became personal and really had nothing to do with winning. If you recall he said all the right things after the season until the "insider(aka Jim Buss)" report. What is his mind set now? No idea. But I certainly wouldnt be trading any young talent at this point. And it appears that the front office agrees.

MH

PS your nobody wants to play with Kobe argument is still whack.

FROM THE DAILY NEWS BLOG:

QUESTION: Do you feel like there's closure with the front office and some of the players that were talked about earlier?)

KOBE: Yeah, sure. Sure. For us, it's been that way for a while. I think there was a lot of speculation about whether I was going to show up for camp or whatever, but we wanted to keep things behind closed doors and amongst ourselves going forward. Management knew. There was never a doubt and never a doubt in my mind.

I told you that from the time Kobe spoke with Mitch he didn't say anything. The only one doing the talking from PJ's HOF ceremony was Phil.

First he "backed" Kobe at his HOF ceremony. Then just a few days ago he backtracks. This guy is all over the place with his comments. That tells me he isn't communicating with Kobe or else he wouldn't have said what he said during the HOF ceremony.

Remember: "Management knew." But from Phil's comments over the past month it seems he didn't know. But then, again, Phil isn't management.

Benny Blanca

first off, long time no blog? nice to have you back.

"So, does Kobe show up early to media day (like a leader)? Or, does he show up late (for dramatic effect)?"

i believe kobe was 34 minutes late. kobe's shizzle don't stink so everyone has to wait for him, not the other way around.

please read this article carefully:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakemedia2oct02,1,6987076.story?coll=la-headlines-sports

Said Kobe: "The guys are ready to go, and whatever management decides to do, my role is to get the best out of this team."

"The guys"?, not "my guys"?

"This team"?, not "my team"?

I thoght this is what kobe wanted when he kicked shaq out of town...to have "his" team. i guess it's only kobe's team when it's good. kobe is really trying to have his cake and eat it too. to bad he'll need to eat some humble cake...

"If I’m Kobe (which I’m not, as noted by my lack of huge ego and ball skills), I’m the first one there."

first, i'm glad you're not kobe. second, great attitude. third, too bad you're not kobe...

Said Bynum: "I just hope everything is cool"

I thought our "franchise guy" cleared the air? i guess not, kobe's poop apparently doesn't smell. sorry, i forgot.

Call me crazy, but after today's Media Day love fest. I have HOPE...not enough hope to join the 55 Win Bandwagon, but I do have HOPE!

CAKE BOY DITCHED THE FACIAL HAIR & THE CORNROWS!!!

Wow!

But can he catch?

Wow ! If Jerry Buss has taking over for Jimmy Boy and reminds me that the kid could go Sean Kingston..."Suicidal" ! On the positve tip It sure looks good to see K-O-B-E's smiling face today ! Local sportscaster here in the Valley Of The Sun had a rumor that our Lakers where pushing Kwame Brown in a trade for Marion ! His qoute was " Why would the Suns want a stiff like Kwame ? " I remember that "stiff" Kwame eating the Suns up in the 06 playoffs before the sexual harassment thing came up !

utz

"Sorry brothers, I couldn't resist. After a summer hanging out on on y'all side of the fence, I've returned to the only side of the fence that matters: WINNING! "

no offense taken. i definitely deserve whatever crap is thrown my way.

Lakers in 45 games and see the 2nd round. That's my no-schtick prediction.

kobe is on his best behavior all season long.

kobe is traded away for pennies on the dollar.

lakers sign a big-time free agent in 2009 and the rebuilding process continues.

Mike T,

Phil has always said that he thought Kobe would show up to camp. Nothing is changed and they both are saying the same thing. Phil is just being more vocal about roster changes at this time than Kobe and I think that's smart, he's taking it on the chin for Kobe in that regard.

Hey, I saw Ric Bucher in one of the pictures of the media interviewing Kobe. Wonder what he is going to have to say about all this?

yeah, yeah, yeah.

mike

KOBE SPEAKS:

"I was frustrated, so I blew up. Now, it's about taking this team that we have and take it to new heights. I think the important thing for everybody to understand is I want to bring a title back to L.A.

"I'm ready to play. I'm in shape, guys look good. I'm ready to go. My job is to come out here on the floor, help us win ballgames."

Tom

hobbit, Jorema made this rambling post, implying bizarre things, this was one small part of it:

"3. Kareem was lost in the teaching of Bynum this summer. Knowing how Jim Buss is fast enough to blame others for Bynum failures and shortcomings, don't discount that he is already tuning out Kareem in the tutelage of his Great pupil."
######

it's just annoying how people make things up out of thin air to support their Kobe arguments. Hey, at this point, if Kobe is here and ready to play hard for us then I'm more than happy to drop the whole "Kobe" thing, but again, just REALLY annoying how people are willing to make up things about other players, especially Bynum to try and support Kobe's big summer outburst.

http://www.570klac.com/main.html

click on "Phil Jackson-Dan Patrick 10/1" at the 11:00 mark... Phil Jackson mentions the mentoring of Bynum by Kareem and Hodges working with Farmar and Crittenton, which is cool, I hadn't heard anything about that before.

Now... on the other end of the spectrum, we'll get Mike T and his whole "white" thing. Did you notice that Kobe mentioned he was happy Chris Mihm and Luke Walton were back along with Fisher? Well... that's TWO white guys and one black guy... I'm sure Mike T was reading something into that! LOL!

Mamba:

Ballad of the Lakers rocks. You're getting better as the season begins. Bravo.

Tom

That's Humble Pie, not cake. Something you'll never try, though I'm sure you'll do your best to make us believe you would.

KL
Who do you think is worse?
A conniving, faker who makes false declarations of modesty?
or an outright selfish bastard?

You might fool some of them (IMO only those so worried about their 'popularity' on this board), but at least the bastard is honest about his intentions.

Here we go. A re-run of The Last Season. The failure of Phil Jackson and the Laker front office to a commit to a contract extension for PJ says one thing. It's all over.

Fans should enjoy what they can of the last season of KB24 in a Purple & Gold uniform and Phil Jackson on the bench. That's the real reason we don't have Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal or Shawn Marion.

Jimmy and Mitch will gut the team after this season. That seems to have been the plan all along. Milk Kobe for all the filled seats, sales of merchandise, and anything else they can get.

Was I happy to see Kobe at Media Day? You bet. But look at the Photo Gallery on the home page of LAT.com. Do you see joy? Do you see enthusiasm? No.

Do you hear words of true optimism? No.

Is the town overjoyed that at last the long off-season is over? No. Last time I checked, more people were reading about Britney Spears than reading about Media Day.

We've been had, fellow bloggers. All summer long, we wrote hundreds of posts, shared our angst at the team's prospects, and added names to the 55 Wins Bandwagon. For what? To be swindled by Buss, Buss and Kupchak one last time.

Are we willing to be swindled all season long? Probably. We'll all be glued to reports out of camp, pre-season exhibitions, and all the televised games. Let's face it. We're junkies. We need our fix. Instead of tracks on our arms, we'll wear our hearts on our sleeves right up until the final game (and beyond). We'll drink all the Purple & Gold Kool Aid we can get. But don't be conned. When it's all over, count on it to leave a bad taste in our mouths.

Since I'm a real Lakers fans...
Since my opinion is they should have made changes for a genuine 2 guy, but failed to did it.
Since the time for evaluation and reconstruction is almost done...

Here is my pledge:

I hope Bynum play this year as Jim Bus envision he can.
I hope this team work it out and win our hearts with effort and dedication.
I hope Lamar finally knows what is his role in this team and fulfill that well.
I hope Jim Buss could be right.

If that happen...

I will be the first to acknowledge I was wrong.
I will be the first to express to Kobe that we need to follow Jim instincts because he proved us wrong.

Contrary to KL and Gunner who pray that this team fail, just to crucify Kobe, I wish this mediocre team overachieve.

I sincerely do as a genuine laker fan.

rdlee and LakerTom
Welcome to the Bynum breakout bandwagon. Nice to start something and have respected folks join in. Note the ride may be bumpy at times but by mid-season things should smooth out and be running well! Mamba, its on you brotha!

Taoshum

Kareem is a coach who work with every low post player.
I was surprise not to see Kareem putting basket perspective in all this intense Bynum training.
After all he is the responsible to make him a more complete player.

Hey...Jim Buss said in the radio that Phil isn't good developing players. That shows that he isn't happy with
Lakers prospects developing including most of all his beloved Bynum.

if Bynum priority was to be better how come they didn't included Karem in the supervision. They pick some estrange guy
to make him a better center.
Now, Phil won't permit a guy as a coach in his staff if he isn't ok with that. Kareem now is part of Phil Staff something that Jim Buss doesn't trust.

Is common sense Taos. Easy to grasp if you aren't Kwame Brown

aloha mike

"But I certainly wouldnt be trading any young talent at this point. And it appears that the front office agrees."

i think you're right that it's personal now. do you think that Jimbo Buss was on the "keeping shaq" camp and now is digging his heals in? either way, i don't think anything big will happen (say Marion or JO acquisition) unless kobe and management sees eye-to-eye. maybe a second round appearance would help? don't know, but it'll be fun to watch.

"PS your nobody wants to play with Kobe argument is still whack."

i know it's "whack", that's part of the schtick. my true feeling is that some players (especially veteran, old-school types) may be turned off by kobe's attitude. others are seeking championships. either way, i can't see a compelling reason for a veteran player like Grant Hill or Juwan Howard to sacrifice their remaining 2-3 years in the league to play alongside a malcontent kobe bryant. plus, i don't think kobe appreciates his teammates enough. maybe kobe's changed? maybe not?

MT

Is all over again with his conspiracy theories made of nothing.

But he doesn't talk about the possible Kwame conspiracy: Fakng injury in order to avoid a trade.

Said kobe: "I was frustrated, so I blew up. Now, it's about taking this team that we have and take it to new heights. I think the important thing for everybody to understand is I want to bring a title back to L.A."

boo "f-ing" whoo...

i get frustrated all the time, but do i badmouth my colleagues? no! do i badmouth my boss? no! do i badmouth the president of my company? no!

Where's the apology?

Kobe fans are like beaten spouses (no gender discrimination here) willing to take abuse and say "it's my fault, i deserved it".

Kobe's first assignment to the fans: Convince Laker FO that kobe was being a stupid jerkoff this summer and that kobe wants his actions to speak for itself and do what it takes to bring Marion, AK-47 or Jermaine O'neal to LA without having to give up too much (like both LO and Bynum). One way to accomplished this is to convince laker FO that kobe is in it for the long haul and taking a BIG risk in Marion or JO will pay off down the road.

As far as this "I want to bring a title back to L.A." garbage, it's.....well....garbage unless something is done. Lip service is cheap. KLBeast wants to see actions.

"Now... on the other end of the spectrum, we'll get Mike T and his whole "white" thing. Did you notice that Kobe mentioned he was happy Chris Mihm and Luke Walton were back along with Fisher? Well... that's TWO white guys and one black guy... I'm sure Mike T was reading something into that! LOL!"

I think I said Phil Jackson was protecting the white players. Phil, not Kobe. Just because Kobe said he was happy that they were back doesn't mean he wants them playing 20 minutes a game.

What do you expect him to say? Naw man, these two guys...I don't want them around. Get real.

"Bryant said he text-messaged an apology to Bynum, but the 19-year-old center said the two hadn't talked."

...

kind of like kobe apologizing to shaq via "a mutual friend"?

new kobe=old kobe

You know, I'm startin to dig the Ballad of the Lakers.

KL,

I didn't post that question in an attempt to beat Kobe up or try and pick sides, but i did feel as though it would be an important thing to note.
We often talk about this Lakers team needing to mature. We keep our fingers crossed that Bynum grows up soon (BTW, MAMBA 24, add me to the Bynum Breakout Bandwagon - because our season hinges on it). But, when it comes right down to maturity and leadership, Kobe can't even manage to show up on time.

Now, just because i'm a little frustrated with our leader's lead-ability, doesn't mean i'm against Kobe. It just means that i'm expecting the rest of our guys to step up and take the reigns.
The only way Kobe begins to respect his current teammates is if they DEMAND the respect. And if getting a little chip on the shoulder is what it takes to Demand Kobe's attention and respect, then so be it. I hope Kobe's rant pisses off some of these teammates. I hope they don't pass it to Kobe ALL the time. I hope (sooner or later) someone on this team gets in Kobe's face and says, "this is MY team too. This is LO's team too. This is Luke's team too. This is the LAKERS, and if we don't play together we will FALL apart."

Off to Honolulu. Time for some team bonding... hopefully.

Great, great point!

Jorema,

>>if Bynum priority was to be better how come they didn't included Karem in the supervision. They pick
>>some estrange guy to make him a better center.

Actually, the Lakers aren't allowed to select a trainer for their players during the offseason, so even if
they wanted to they couldn't have Kareem working with him. I think it's an excellent sign that Bynum was
working out over the summer, and I think he chose exactly the sort of trained he needed - strength and
conditioning. Hopefully this means he won't get tired running up and down the court more than 20 minutes
a night and he won't run out of gas 2/3 of the way through the season.

>>But, when it comes right down to maturity and leadership, Kobe can't even manage to show up on time.

He had a doctors appointment and the Lakers organization knew about it. Don't draw conclusions until you
actually read all the interviews and know what went on.

>>>"The only way Kobe begins to respect his current teammates is if they DEMAND the respect."

I totally concur with this one. I think there are actually some very talented players on the team, but all too often
they stand around and watch Kobe on offense. If they don't want Kobe to "take over" the offense in the second
half, they need to step it up and keep the team in the game in the first half. Success isn't handed to you, you've
got to take it, and most of the Lakers need to learn that and live it.

KLBEAT-UP,

"As far as this "I want to bring a title back to L.A." garbage, it's.....well....garbage unless something is done. Lip service is cheap. KLBeast wants to see actions."

HAha! What an ignorant, yeah like anybody ever cares to your post....lol. Shut the eff up cuz everybody is gonna show up in Hawaii including KB24 and will show you how it's done.

long time

"He had a doctors appointment and the Lakers organization knew about it. Don't draw conclusions until you actually read all the interviews and know what went on."

excuses are like a-holes, everyone has one and they all stink. make the appointment earlier. make it the day before. it's bull-shizzle if you ask me. kobe was just being an a-hole and being difficult.

"i get frustrated all the time, but do i badmouth my colleagues? no! do i badmouth my boss? no! do i badmouth the president of my company? no!"

For once you make sense, KL. To do that kind of thing requires two qualities: talent and cojones (maybe that makes three, in fact).

Same ISH on the blog, different day!

Long Time LF,
I read the all the interviews. I knew he had a "doctor's appointment".
There are always exceptions. He's excused if his daughter was sick and he needed to get her to the ER, or something along those lines.
However, it's a simple scheduling issue. If showing up on time for a team function was important to him, he could have scheduled the doctor's appointment differently.
You and I don't know the reason for the appointment. So perhaps i shouldn't be so quick to judge... But of equal importance here, You shouldn't be so quick to defend him.
