Lakers Now

Round-the-Clock Purple and Gold

« Previous Post | Lakers Now Home | Next Post »

Synchronize your watches, everybody!

Then set your alarms for 3:01 p.m. PST tomorrow (unless you're one of them fancy lads who can tell time by looking at the sun, and if that's the case, bully for you) because that's the precise moment the Lakers can sign Derek Fisher to a contract.  He'll have theoretically cleared waivers 60 seconds earlier, so unless another squad grabs Fisher off the wire at his old price -- less likely than a purple and gold reunion with Isaiah Rider -- .4 is back at his old stomping grounds.

On an unrelated note, here's what Kobe will be up to this weekend.  To the best of Lakersblog's knowledge, Bryant hasn't requested a trade from this team.

LOL, I thought you were pimping a am710 appearance again.

Are they gonna have a press conf signing? Or is that too disrespectful for his old team, and his daughter?

At least we know Kobe will be doing some training during the offseason.

This is what the Lakers should do with their roster

The Players they need to keep or already kept are:

1. Kobe, Luke, Fisher, Farmar, Javaris C. , Ronny., Maurice Evans

The Players they need to use for Marketing:

1. Lamar, Kwame, Bynum

The Players they need to dump out:

1. Kwame, Cook, Sasha, McKie, Shammond

The Players they need to sign:

1. Sun Yue, Coby Karl, Marc Gasol, Mihm

Either Keep Brian Cook or Keep Radmanovic, we need to dump one or the other.

Overall the roster should look like this so far:

L.A. Lakers :

Kobe
Luke
Fisher
Radmanovic
Lamar
Bynum
Ronny
Evans
Coby Karl
Jordan Farmar
Javaris C.
Chris Mihm
Marc Gasol
Sun Yue

Yeah if we don't trade anyone.

I hope Derek Fisher gets signed at exactly 3:01:00.4 p.m.
Welcome back Fish!

that joke is played out, AK

Step 1 in the rebuilding of a championship team....hopefully. I was a Smush guy last year, and felt he should have been appreciated more by the fans, but I'm glad to see D-Fish back. With him in the lineup at the end of games, I know our squad will be much more calm, and we'll have someone that won't be scared to either take the last shot, or pass it to somebody not named Kobe.

I expect him to give our whole team a new confidence, and give our man Kobe some much needed veteran help. He might not be the best pg in the league, but he is probably best for this team, and I expect him to give us 3-5 more wins this season.

It'll be good to have Derek back where he belongs.

GO LAKERS!

its unusually quiet here ....

where are the lakers bloggers???

its eerily quiet here :-)

AK,
Any word on Chris Mihm? will he be returning to the Lakers?

L.A.’s Biggest Sports Star: Kobe Bryant or David Beckham?
by Oly Sandor.

Michael Ventre on the possibility of David Beckham becoming L.A.’s biggest sports star:

" In (L.A.) sports, Kobe Bryant has been king. But he’s a paper tiger, for a few reasons. First and foremost, he wants out of L.A. He currently resides in the only area where an ego as large as his can be accommodated without major structural modifications, and yet he wants to be elsewhere.

Also, Kobe’s star is on the wane. He did himself no favors in recent weeks with his blistering attack on his employers, which angered a good chunk of his fan base. And frankly, although he’s been a spectacular player in an individual sense, he’s been a failure as a teammate and a leader. The only three championship rings he possesses came about with the help of Shaquille O’Neal, Phil Jackson and role players like Robert Horry, Derek Fisher and Rick Fox.

Much of Bryant’s luster comes from his self-professed status as a winner. But that image is wearing as thin as Nicole Richie.

Beckham doesn’t have to worry about being a winner. Few in the really follow soccer, and particularly the MLS, closely enough to lose sleep over win-loss records. All he has to do is look good, smile and not demand a trade.

Beckham also is, by most accounts, a decent guy. There may not be an individual on the planet whose professional and personal lives have been pried into more enthusiastically, and yet he seems to handle it all with a level head and good humor. That will give him extra points on the Celeb-O-Meter.

As for some of the other sports stars … Guerrero either can’t, or won’t, speak English, so he is mostly ignored by the press. Brand is underrated and underappreciated. But he’s a humble man who toils for the Clippers — a bad combination. Carroll is the most successful coach in college football over the past five years, but he’s hardly a pinup/nightclub type, and the closest he gets to Hollywood is when Will Ferrell visits the locker room after games.

After them, the field is startlingly thin.

No, Beckham’s real competition lies outside of sports. Actors, musicians, directors, chefs, designers, politicians, sportswriters (don’t laugh, we get the best tables in restaurants; all we have to do is wait two hours) and the like are all that stand in the way of Beckham’s ascent to the pinnacle of celebrityhood. It should be an easy climb.:

My Quick Take: Kobe Bryant will feel the heat from David Beckham, the newest celebrity to invade Hollywood. However, I disagree with Ventre’s take.

Beckham is already a bigger celebrity than Bryant-at least globally. The Englishman, with the pop-star wife, has transcended his sport and is a world icon/brand.

In Asia, they love Beckham. In South America, they adore Senor Beckham. In Europe, they worship ‘Becks.’

And, in all three continents, they buy whatever he’s selling: shoes, cologne, hairstyles, and jerseys.

This is the point. Right now, Beckham is half-celebrity, half-soccer star. I have no idea what comes first.

Sure, the midfielder talks a good game, professing his love for football. But if he truly loved his sport, Beckham would have continued playing in Europe instead of coming to a second-tier league in America.

I know. He’s a soccer/football ambassador. His mission: to spread the game in America.

Well, if Beckham wanted to be Kofi Annan, he should have joined the United Nations. In fact, he would probably do a decent job solving global conflicts or preserving fresh water supplies for the poor.

Bryant is a basketball player. There’s no half-way. Marketing, branding, and playing Henry Kissinger is an afterthought to perfecting his craft. In fact, it can be argued Bryant is too committed to perfecting his craft.

#24 would never leave the NBA on a diplomatic jaunt to further his sport. Bryant would have to be gagged and kidnapped. Once the gag was removed, he would insult his new team and league like they were Mitch Kupchak and Andrew Bynum.

I admire Beckham’s class. I also admire his amazing right foot. But the celebrity-tail is wagging the soccer-player-dog.

There’s no mistaking Bryant. He’s a basketball player. That’s all he wants to be. And that’s why he’s still L.A.’s biggest sports star.

3:01 pm tomorrow, will be refreshing the lights out of my web browser, but you lazy cats won't post anything for hours... Long, long hours as the fans await.

Comedian Alex Kaseberg: “Tony Parker gave Eva Longoria a wedding ring with 107 diamonds on it. Upon hearing this, Kobe Bryant said, ‘Wow, he’s already had 107 affairs?’ ’’

LL Cool J's All-Time Starting Five NBA Team

When it comes to pro athletes, LL Cool J says he's a fan of rugged individualism and mavericks. "I thought Michael Jordan was like that," he says. "But he was a rugged individualist who was so great that he made everyone around him better, even as he excelled as an individual."

Though his favorite sport is boxing, Cool J says, "I'm pretty passionate about basketball. I really wanted to see LeBron James win this year. I know he wasn't ready yet, but I thought it would have been a great Cinderella story."

With basketball fresh on his mind, SI.com asked Cool J to pick his all-time NBA starting five. His squad:

1. C: Shaquille O'Neal

2. F: Tim Duncan

3. F: Kobe Bryant

4. G: Michael Jordan

5. G: Magic Johnson

Says Cool J: "I'm putting Shaq in his prime at center and Tim Duncan at one of the forwards. Then I'm putting Kobe at the other forward. Obviously, I'm picking Michael Jordan as one of the guards. At the end of the day, he refused to lose. And my point guard is Magic. All I know this team is not losing. It is definitely not losing!"

Agree with LL? Give us your perfect NBA starting five.

What is happening to Smush Parker? Any News on him?

As much as I love Fisher, the Lakers should have gone with Blake. He's taller, more athletic, and could play better "D". The Lakers need to plan for the future and not trade Bynum.

Now Presenting...

------------------------------------------------
THE CHRONICLES OF SERGEANT KOBE
------------------------------------------------

(Note: This story and its characters are completely fictional, and any resemblance to any actual person, living or dead, is purely coincidental.)

PART 1

SERGEANT KOBE: General Kupchak, our fort is surrounded on all sides. The Suns of Phoenix and the Spurs of San Antonio have broken through the front lines. We must call for reinforcements!

GENERAL KUPCHAK: Nonsense! We will be able to defend the attack on our own. We don't need any assistance. After all, we've got you, the sharpest shooter in the West!

SERGEANT KOBE: Are you mad? Look at Private Kwame, for Pete's sake! He drops his rifle before he can even get a shot off! And Private Radmanovic... he'd rather ride the horses in the stable then defend our base! I can't hold them off by myself, and I won't die trying! If you don't send for help, then I will just have to save myself!

GENERAL KUPCHAK: Oh Kobe, I cant let you desert the fort. I'd be forced to shoot you on sight.

SERGEANT KOBE: Then shoot me! I don't care! I will not stay if we are going to be massacred!

GENERAL KUPCHAK: Ok, calm down... I'll call for reinforcements. Just let me inform General Buss.

SERGEANT KOBE: I thought you were the General.

GENERAL KUPCHAK: So did I.

WHAT the heck does KUPCHAK do?

Five straight trade deadlines... NO action.

The biggest offseason of his tenure... NO action.

WHY PAY THE GUY for doing NOTHING. FIRE MITCHelle KUPCHAK!!!! PLEASE

Looks like BallHog24 has found somebody to feed him for the coming season. Fisher will lead the NBA in assists and the Lakers will fail again to get out of the first round, if they get that far. 14M for 3 years for a player 33 years old? What was the front office thinking?

Marketing.

Fisher was hired as a feed-machine for BallHog24. Light 'em up! Give the fans what they want - 40 a night from Mr. Marquee. That should keep the Hog fans fat and happy. Never mind the playoffs or the future ...

“That's what I like about Kobe- he gets so much criticism from every angle- (Some warrented, some not) and the dude will STILL go out and play as hard as he can.”

I get what you’re saying and perhaps Kwame isn’t cut out for pro-sports. My problem with kobe (at a b-ball level) is that the dude seems too narrowly focused and not able to see the big picture….winning a title. The best way for me to describe it is being around someone who’s totally gung-ho, but half way thought he exercise, the dude forgets the original objective, then is too stubborn to change course…….hey kind of like our dumb President (whom I regrettably voted for twice).

let me give you an theory. kobe's is 100% devoted to working out and being shape (presently and during the championship years) correctly thinking that being a finely condition athlete is the best way to help win a championship. fair enought i say. but the myopic side of kobe forgets that winning a title involved Shaq and Shaq's ability to surround the team with the right guys to win. kobe meanwhile, erroneously, thinks that as long as he [kobe individually] puts in 10 hours a day working out in the offseason, it’ll be enough to win a title and anything less the person (eg, shaq) is being lazy. Now, instead of realizing that the world does not revolve around kobe, kobe forgets that shaq and company is the reason kobe’s won championships. Somehow, kobe thinks that he is the reason that the lakers won all of those championships. hence my theory that kobe wanted and got shaq out.

Now that shaq’s gone, kobe can’t seem to figure out why the lakers are losing, so it’s gotta be management’s and his teammate’s fault cuz kobe’s still putting 10 hours a day working out and getting HIMSELF ready to play. KOBE FORGOT THE BIG PICTURE THAT YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR TEAM READY TO PLAY.

"You guys are funny; first it was begging for KG, now you're reduced to begging for a scrub like Marc Jackson. You guys should be able to get him, because nobody else wants him."

great point my friend. i'll say again what happen to the wave of NBA players drooling to play alongside "the best player on the planet"? i don't beleive all this salary cap issue. if the lakers wanted someone, they'll clear cap space to get whoever wants to play in LA. Since shaq's departure, our big free agent signing have been Shammon Williams, Smuch Parker, Vlad Radmonvic and Theo Papa-somthing. Pathetic. Don't blame anybody but kobe who wanted the glory of winning titles by shooting us out of a championship in 2004, then chasing shaq away. now kobe wants to be traded. pathetic. kobe sucks and he old-man doesn't deserve to be a laker. kobe's lucky to have played with shaq or kobe'll be the Biggest Talent Not to Win a Title. At least kobe can hang his hat on being the Biggest Robbin not Named Pippen.

"Who do you think is L.A.’s biggest sports star: Kobe Bryant or David Beckham? Get at us with your thoughts in the comment box below."

kobe who? i love kobe.......kobayshi that is.

We need to improve at PF and SF!

.... we may not have to look far .... because we MAY already have them... there's only one way to find out PLAY THEM with the new one-two punch of Bynum and Kobe, role players are now critical to start building!

Odom (originally was brought in as SF) and Kwame (PF) will not be resigned when their contract expires. That being said we need to give Turiaf and Radmanovic playing time. So we can see if they can be the role players behind Bynum and Kobe. It has to happen this year if they don't produced and does not show the urgency, Mitch's next move should be to start looking for the replacement of kwame/Turiaf at PF next year (1st priority). Then the following year start looking for Odom/Radmonvic replacement st SF (2nd priority). It seems like Mitch is already ahead of the game when he drafted Gasol and SunYue.

PF - SF
Kwame - Odom
to
Turiaf - Radmanovic
to
Gasol - SunYue

You see folks, we have a lot to thank for to Luke Walton! Because he was never meant to start for the Lakers. But because Lamar and Kwame failed at their position he had to start at SF. Then Rad was brought in to start and he failed as well last year. Luke again to the rescue! The great thing about all these is Luke kept improving year after year! He has become the second most consistent and reliable player that brings it night in and night out. . and he was just supposed to be a back up role player for us... i don't know about you guys... But we really have to appreciate what he has doneas a Laker For the less talent skills that he has... he has over achieved everytime with pure efforts, determination and it does help to be smart!

LUKE WALTON was signed an extension not to be part of the starting five.... But rather to do what he has been doing since he got here! Get better every year... and if the starters don't produce you come in and help us! Pretty Simple!

You notice i did not mention the PG, which has been our first priority the last three years. Since the Atkins and Smushes took over and failed miserably... But it's different now, I think we finally got this resolved with the old floor general in Fisher is back. What makes it even better is... he has two young and promising PG's that he can relief him of his duties while he tags them along and guide them.. The bonus is the point guard is exactly the kind we have been searching for and he is Critttenton.

Therefore.... I strongly suggest that Turiaf and Vlad should start with Bynum, Kobe and Fisher. Let Odom , Kwame and Walton come off the bench.

Durant signs 7-year, $60 million endorsement deal with Nike

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2941448

KOBE WHO?

Kobe's yesterday's news. LBJ, Wade, Melo, Bosh, Oden and Durant are the future of the NBA. Kobe has the USA Team and 2 more years with the Lakers to redeem himself, otherwise Kobe will be an asterik soon enough. Kobe Bryant=Mr. Selfish Scoring A$$hole.

BTW, I'm going to go buy a Durant jersey tomorrow. Kobe jersey buyers beware, i will spit on every kobe's jersey i see.

Man, i knew that kobe was a falling star, but i didn't think kobe would be a blackstar (no racial pund intended) in just 3 years post shaq. Kobe=The Big Oblivion.

What say you Kobe Apologist and kobe apologists (in case you don't get the joke, one is a proper noun and the other is a common noun)? i know, kobe has bad teammates, kobe has a terrible owner, kobe has an incompetent GM, kobe works out 10 hours-a-day, kobe is not lazy like Shaq, the white media hates kobe, the black media hates kobe, the Asian media hates kobe (pronounced "low-bee"), LaDanian Tomlinson hates kobe, shaq hates kobe.

Jorema

I too would pick the same as LL cool J....

But just for the heck of it this five can compete as well.

Wilt
The Dream
Bird
Dr J
Big O

or

Mihm
Kwame
Odom
Vujacic
Smush

Lakers Fans, there is a rumor on a AOL blog that Atlanta has offered the Lakers, Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams and Josh Childress for Kobe.

I'm not a Lakers fan but that would be a great deal if Kupchek is smart enough to except it. Johnson and Williams would start immediately and provide 40-50 points a night collectively, while Childress would be an excellent 6th Man, providing double degit scoring nightly.

This is Kupchek's chance to prove he's smarter than George Bush

Wow... I'm recovering from that Mike T poem on the other thread...

A long-ignored question before the whole Mike T rant that I'm not going to dignify with a reply was about our starting 5 and bench with the current squad. Here's mine

1 - Fisher - I see Fisher starting to set up the flow of the game and playing most of the 4th quarter, maybe offering 15-20 minutes a night.

2 - Kobe - Duh. Would be great to keep him to 40 minutes a night.

3 - Luke Walton - Dude just makes the offense flow. His jumper has gotten better and better, hopefully he has added a post move or two. Great opportunistic scorer, could evolve this year into a legitimate threat for a triple-double.

4 - Odom - While I like Lamar playing the 3, the fact is that he matches up well against dudes like Duncan and Nowitski by being too quick for them to handle on the other end.

5 - Bynum - It's time to put up or shut up for Bynum. It's his third year; he claims to want to start - he should put his money where his mouth is. If he gets winded or distracted as the season wears on, we've got Kwame to step in, if need be.

Bench:

TOP THREE: Farmar, Mo Evans, Kwame

SITUATIONAL GUYS: Turiaf, Cook, Sasha, Crittenden

Ugh - I'm an idiot. I forgot VladRad. I would put him at the top of the situational guys.

Luigi,
With a stronger bench, the age of Fish is less of a factor. Phil will be playing him 20 to 25 minutes at most and paying close attention to matchups. Farmar (with a year under his belt) and "Crittertown" with a maturity that compares with Tony Parker at the same age and stage of his NBA career will probably do most of the work. And I predict Crittenton as a starter a lot earlier than Farmar last year. But we may see the very unorthodox situation of ending up with three alternate starting PGs, varying according to matchups and motivational dynamics.

And don't forget Sasha!

"I just read on lakers topbuzz, what we were really offered for shaq, and it makes me and sick to my stomach." 2kobe3peats

Nash
Howard
Jamison
and the # 5 pick for Shaq........LMAO OMG..

and that # 5 pick could've been used for

Josh Smith , Al jefferson, luol deng , anybody but devin harris since we already had nash.

Our team would look like this.

Nash
kobe
howard
jamison
Mihm

Im sure by now we'd have a big to go with this lineup.

Wow, we could've won 2 more championships for sure by now , with another 2 - 3 to go.

Just thought I'd pis# you laker fans off, of the thought with what could have been.

Why didnt we, mitch didnt want to play shaq 4 times a year, only twice.

LOL. wheres the brains ?

KL,

Would you look at what Luigi said: Fisher was hired as a feed-machine for BallHog24. Light 'em up! Give the fans what they want - 40 a night from Mr. Marquee. That should keep the Hog fans fat and happy. Never mind the playoffs or the future ...

Your "crap" is so much better than this weak s*&t. Listen, If someone is going slinging mud
around here, would you take care of it? Perhaps you could open a training camp much like
Kobe's Kamp for Kids.

How Goes it?

Go Lakers!
Go Kobe!

Hal9000 very original, keep it up and G1 might have some competition
on his hands.

Fisher's second coming is very timely in taming the wild Lakers. He adds stability and experience that Kobe and PJ failed to emulate with the other players. He could add synergy to Kobe's game, Kobe will leave the management part and leading the youthful group to Fish in imparting the importance of going to the next level. He could also narrate with his teammates what he learned from his previous tours of duties with other teams, their strategies, strenghts and weaknesses and the joy of being able to play in NBA. I guess everyone was tense, uptight throughout the previous seasons in trying to prove themselves to the fans, their coaches, they just need another personality to infuse light heartedness that may develop to creative thinking, humane relationship and camaraderie not experienced before. A camaraderies that is not driven by selfish ambitions or sinister motives but just from an individual player's standpoint that they are all professionals and therefore, respect one's differences and act as professionals at all times.

Actually, I wouldnt mind no big trades to this team if Kupchak would add the necessary depth to the team.

I think we are adequate at PG now. BUT if we get injuries at PF or C then it will be just like last year.

We are a good team only at FULL STRENGTH and only with great play from starters.

Even if our starters play well the whole season, they will be worn out come playoffs.

So, no, I am not overall happy with Kupchak cuz at the very least we need some quality depth and reserves at PF and C most importantly and at SF/SG too.

I'm on the road this week like my friend Jack Kerouac. Denver today, Vail this weekend, Colorado Springs next week (my home), Montgomery Alabama for a week, San Antonio Texas for a week and back home to Colo Springs. I read from wherever I go.

Colorado Springs and the WORLD love the Lakers!

jorema,
Much as I love that starting 5, I would have to make a couple of substitutions.
1) Wilt, in his prime, over Shaq (you'all forget Wilt was an all-star multi-sport athlete (track and field and volleyball) as well as a totally dominant bball player.
2) Kareem over Tim Duncan at forward. I know this sounds weird, but Kareem could go outside and also defend. Oh that shot!

Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak
Where's Jerry when you need him?
Such a clusterf**k.

Becks to Galaxy
More tickets, but no more wins
Kobe knows your pain

An AOL blog says; Atlanta has offered Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams and Josh Childress for Kobe Bryant. I'm not a lakers fan but Kupchek should be all over that deal if it is true. Those three guys represent roughly 60 points per night and a chance for the Lakers to lure free agents next off season.

The lakeshow won't find a better deal than that

David Beckham is hot a sports star here, he is a celebrity from England and his wife is a Spice Girl.

This is America, we don't do Soccer. Soccer is good for kids and grown guys who can't play anything else.

Soccer is boring and sux

AK-
I believe the signing of Fisher will help us win about 10 more games, but we will still be eliminated in the first or second round with this squad. What is your opinion on this matter? Kupchak had nothing to do with this signing because Fisher was a freeby from Utah, and all Kupchak had to do was give him the money to sign.

yo jorema,

i don't give a ratz azz about "becks," k? all i want for x-mas are KG and ron-ron. 'nuff said.

Jorema

That link about the top 5 team of LL Cool J, deam funny.....Besides, It's pretty cool that even those KobeHaters put him on the mix...

No matter what everybody says Kobe haters, Kobe Supporters we are all Laker fans and Kobe is our biggest reference....Like or not...like some ESPN guy says. At the end of his career we'll be able to see his greatness and his inmense talent...Laker Blogers let's join and just wait till this new season begins...I would love to have a trade on works..but that's something that none of us can make...Please god and please Mitch, Jerry,Jim,Kobe and Phil, Find the calm on your souls and bring the crown where it belongs

mamba,
"Sometimes doing nothing is the most prudent course. "

You're about to be screamed at by JJ. After he finishes holding his breath and turning blue, I mean.

XTRO,
"i don't give a ratz azz about "becks," k? all i want for x-mas are KG and ron-ron. 'nuff said."

Damn Xtro you read my mind.

Well, I guess that's our big free-agent signing this year. I don't see anything going any differently than last year, based on what we've got right now.

I really want to see how the first day of training camp goes. I'm very curious to see if this team can gell at all, after the off-season drama.

I give it another 30 posts before it hits.

Exhelodrvr,
"You're about to be screamed at by JJ. After he finishes holding his breath and turning blue, I mean."

No, No, No! Oh sweet Lord Jesus No! Generic_one please send a couple of your
Zombies over to see JJ to keep him occupied while I go Fishing.
Thanks for the tip EX.

Just my two cents... Beckham will be to the U.S. what Steve Francis will be to Italy in two years. NADA!

I'll be sitting by waiting to hear on the Fisher signing.

Korey,

You said: I think we are adequate at PG now.

----------------

I mostly agree with you. I disagree at the Center position. We're weak. Mihm hasn't signed.
We've no clue to how he'll play having been out for 1.5 years. There's no word on Bynum's
defense. Kwame is coming off of surgery. Not sure how he'll heal up. Turiaf has bursitus.

We're ok at SG.

East Coast Jessie,
"I'll be sitting by waiting to hear on the Fisher signing."

EC Jessie welcome back. Where have you been? Missed You.

Too late! Covered that a MONTH ago!

Shall I compare thee to Laker trophies?
They art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake trading rumors of June,
And draft day's lease hath all too long a date.
Sometime too dim the eye of Jim Buss shines,
And often is his intelligence dimm'd;
And every year from year sometime declines,
By chance or Kobe's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy dream of Showtime shall not fade
Nor lose possession of glory they brought us
Nor shall Shaq brag we wander'st in his shade,
When with youth and time the Lakers grow'st:
So long as Lakers play or fans can breathe,
So long lives this, and this gives hope to we.

I had to modify a few lines to fit the iambic pentameter mold (10 syllables).

Who cares............that's the big offseason signing. Fisher!!
I've enjoyed the time we had with fisher durking the championship runs but even then I knew he was too limited. I'm just anxious for the time when we stop picking up players to fit in the Triangle and start getting more athletic, talented and well rounded players.

I would have taken Steve francis at his price in a heart beat over fisher........Francis is definitely more of an impact guard that's gonna bring more to the table than fisher can.

I guess i'm supposed to get excited if we RE-SIGN MIHM.........wow and then next year the big off season move will be the Re-signing of Kareem Rush because they understand the Triangle.

............were going backwards. We need to start with a NEW COACH.

Generic-

Wow. You're ahead of the curve. Quick question (it's been a while since I finished my Shakespeare classes)- typically, doesn't the last line add a syllable (making it 11)? That's how my memory is presenting it to me. Linguistics/poetry/Shakespeare experts out there, feel free to correct me, because I don't feel like looking it up (haha).

If you're solid, congratulations! Assuming your comment didn't hit in the tail end of spring (another thing I don't feel like looking up (haha)).

Either way, to quote that guy at the tee box, "You da man!"

BK

Generic,
"I had to modify a few lines to fit the iambic pentameter mold (10 syllables)."

So what's next G? Trying out for the point guard position on the Lakers.
Taking over from Mike T. and finishing the Buss Journals. Look forget the Iambic pentameter smamater,
we got serious business here. Send 2 zombies over JJ's to keep him occupied before he can begin reading
the Blog. If you like they can teach JJ Iambic Pentameter. But please, PLEASE get those zombies over there.

Been on sabbatical because it's been so quiet in the league. It's so quiet that Lebron's turned to impersonating Bobby Brown...ain't that some shit.

free agent signings
minor players overpaid
ask Radmanovic

hobbit,
the frontcourt has me worried.

we have 4 guys who are all inconsistent and 3 of 4 are injury prone.
Odom
Bynum
Kwame
Turiaf

I mean.. wow... who can we rely on in that bunch?

SG is OK since Kobe will play pretty much 35 mins a nite.

SF we have Walton/Radmanovic/Evans to split the minutes. Not great, but definitely not sucky.

PG we are adequate as well. Fisher, Crittenton, and Farmar should put a good fight every nite i think.

But our front court... wow... it WILL BE THE DEATH OF THE 2007-2008 LAKERS ...

We are either extremely healthy and 2 of 4 guys STAY HEALTHY and productive or we get kicked out the 1st round in embarassing fashiion AGAIN

THE CHRONICLES OF SERGEANT KOBE: Part 2
----------------------------------------------------------

GENERAL KUPCHAK: General Buss?

GENERAL BUSS: Hey, that tickles... you ladies are just too much for me... yes, Private Kupchak, what can I do for you?

GENERAL KUPCHAK: Sergeant Kobe is threatening to abandon his post if we don't send for help.

GENERAL BUSS: And what did you tell him?

GENERAL KUPCHAK: I told him that I'd call for reinforcements.

GENERAL BUSS: Private Kupchak...

GENERAL KUPCHAK: It's General Kupchak, sir.

GENERAL BUSS: Uh huh, right... Private Kupchak, we're not going to send for reinforcements.

GENERAL KUPCHAK: Ok, I'll tell the messenger to... huh?

GENERAL BUSS: And were not going to let Sergeant Kobe desert his post, either.

GENERAL KUPCHAK: Sir?

GENERAL BUSS: Sergeant Kobe is going to stay right where he is, and you know why? We're going to make it look like we're sending for help when we're really not. By the time he figures it out, it will be too late for him to leave and he'll be forced to stay and fight.

GENERAL KUPCHAK: But what if we can't defend the fort on our own?

GENERAL BUSS: So what? We may lose the battle, but we'll win the war. Now where was I... oh yes, that's a nice belly button ring you've got there, young lady...

MAMBA24...don't know it it was Whitney or Superhead but something's wrong wit that brotha!

Did you not watch the ESPY'S and now he's supposed to be on SNL... he's not even funny man.

T- minus 5 hours until Zero Hour of F-DAY. (F for Fish)

I can get a hold of a bottle of red wine, a cheap motel and my laptop and begin Lakers free-style prose with our bunch of characters. I will leave Colfax Avenue tomorrow and start the project. Where's my typewritter?

Denver's Colfax Avenue loves the Lakers!

AK/BK,

Do you all think the Lakers will make the announcement right after 3pm today?

Is it 3pm Easter or Pacific?

G-1 and Mamba24,

Bring back I-Fatty, he got held by GetGarnett.com. mamba, tell him that you're not mad he can come home. He kept on saying, he won't go home until he has Garnett wearing purple and gold.

Who's with me on the 45-win bandwagon!!!?

Come on Jessie, It's hard out here being a Punk. His wife left him, they reposesed the car and

Hey guys/gals,

On an unrelated note, did anyone ever post pictures of that get-together you all had in L.A.? At the grill or someplace like that?

I'd love to see them.

summer league games and some team signed him by mistake. lol

General Zen I would follow you to the very gates of Hell itself but..

a 45 win Bandwagon...... HELLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
It's 55 WINS or NOTHING!

BK:

As far as I know, eleven syllables are allowable, but ten is the standard. Hendecasyllabic (eleven syllables) poems are common deviations which usually have an unstressed syllable at the very end, such as this line:

"To be or not to be, that is the question"

Here are a few of the last lines of Shakespearean sonnets containing the standard ten:

"Because I would not dull you with my song."

"Your own glass shows you when you look in it."

"Which three till now, never kept seat in one."

There's also the iambic trimeter (six syllables) as well, but less seen than the pentameter.

Mamba24:

"But please, PLEASE get those zombies over there."

Unfortunately, I think all the zombies are in Boston right now looking for Danny Ainge. My intelligence sources have told me that he's made major contributions to Mitt Romney so he needs some watching. I have a gargoyle that I can have sit on the house across the street from his, though. I had him painted like a garden gnome so he's totally incognito.

ex:

Limericks ahoy! Awesome!

Faith,

"At least we know Kobe will be doing some training during the offseason."

Surely you're joking. It's well known that Kobe is one of the hardest workers in the
league in the offseason. Other than the season he was injured and had surgery
during the summer, he has always come back in better shape and with improvement
in some area each year.

It's Shaq that would spend the whole summer overeating and come into camp out of shape.

What you should be hoping is that Bynum and Farmar and Walton and Radmanovic
are doing some training during the offseason. If they had the sort of improvements that
Kobe generally shows from season to season, the team would be greatly improved.

Never fear Sister Faith, as has been reported Bynum not only started working out

really good. AK or BK might be able to provide us with some updates on
the others.

Yeah. That's the biggest thing that grinds on me about the Shaq trade. The stupid
"don't trade your star into the same conference" strategy that managers almost invariably
take. They clearly could have gotten a much better deal if they'd have been willing to
trade Shaq to whatever team made the best offer.

If Kobe forces a trade next year, I hope Kupchak at least remembers that and learns
from it. They may be able to get a better deal if the set of teams bidding is larger.

"What you should be hoping is that Bynum and Farmar and Walton and Radmanovic are doing some training during the offseason. If they had the sort of improvements that Kobe generally shows from season to season, the team would be greatly improved.'

I just don't get it.

If I were on the team, I'd be the first one to call Kobe and ask if I could work out with him during the off season.

What's wrong with people????

korey,

re: the front court. You said:

Odom
Bynum
Kwame
Turiaf

In order of dependability:

Turiaf. He's a warrior. He'll play hurt and he gets hurt less than Lamar.
Odom. I give him his props.
Bynum. He's physically healthy, but he's a marshmallow. Soft and squish. About to get
punked by 2 rookies fresh outta school.
Kwame. The injury recovery will prevent him from working on his game. Which he and we
desperately need. *sigh*

We are weakest at Center. Chris Mihm is trying to get paid, and I can't be mad at him. Still ...
I'd like it if he said: I'll give you a 1 year at so-so $$ because you didn't cut me when I was
hurt.

Long time laker Fan I think you took Faith's post the
wrong way. I think what she was trying to say is that it's a given that
Kobe will be training. WE all know every summer Kobe trains to add something new,
to his game. But if you are a long term Laker fan then you knew that didn't you

LADIES AN D GENTLEMEN RespectMyAuthoritah

Mamba 24 and Faith,

Last offseason Luke Walton worked out at a gym down here in San Diego all the time. Dude was with his shooting coach running drills for hours and hours. He's a damn hard worker. I think it's shown considering he's improved every year he's been in the league.

AK,

LOL.

You never know....maybe he'll ask to be traded to the Italian Team or something.

Mamba24,

i'm kinda pissed that i was added to the roll call after Gunner24.

I POSTED THIS ON THE PACER'S FORUM: I'M KUPCHAK AND EACH PACER BLOGGER IS LARRY BIRD..NOW TO MY FELLOW LAKER BLOGGER DO U LIKE THIS TRADE?

"LAKER FAN HERE.. EACH OF YOU SHOULD ACT LIKE LARRY BIRD..NOW HERE'S MY PROPOSAL..TELL ME IF WE HAVE A DEAL.

BYNUM, KWAME, J.CRITT (I REALLY LIKE THIS GUY), COOK. FOR J.ONEAL

BYNUM
BYNUM'S 2ND YEAR #'S ARE IDENTICAL (SLIGHTLY BETTER, MORE EFFICIENT) THAN AL JEFFERSON 2ND YEAR #'S. IF BYNUM FOLLOWS THAT SAME GROWTH PATTERN, HE SHOULD AVG 16PPG, 11 RBS, 2 BLKS THIS UPCOMING SEASON..HE HAS BEEN WORKING OUT LIKE CRAZY THIS OFFSEASON. HE WOULDN'T BE A BAD ADDITION TO YOUR CLUB.

KWAME
KWAME SUCKS..NO SUGAR COATING..BUT HE DOES HAVE $9 MILL COMING OF YOUR BOOKS NEXT YEAR..THAT'S $$ THAT COULD HELP PACERS SIGN 1 OF THE MANY 2008 FA LIKE G.ARENAS, OR OTHER STARS WITH BREAKOUT YEARS ETC. PLUS KWAME POST DEFENSE IS 2ND TO ONLY HMM TIM DUNCAN IN MY OPINION..IF THERE'S A CTR/PF THAT HAS A POST UP GAME..KWAME IS ONE OF THE BEST DEFENDING THAT GUY..HE'S HELD GUYS LIKE TIM DUNCAN, GARNETT, RASHEED WALLACE ETC TO 25% FG..

COOK
I READ THAT L.OBRIEN IS TRYING TO SHOOT THE 3'S THIS YEAR..WITH THAT NEW UPTEMPO STYLE OF PLAY, THERE'S NO BETTER BIG MAN TO PLAY ALONGSIDE MURPHY THAT WOULD HELP SPREAD THE FLOOR THAN COOK. HE GIVES YOU ANOTHER THREAT..IF COOK GETS AN OPEN SHOT IT'S AS GOOD AS $$ IN THE BANK.

NOW OUR PROMISING #19 PICK J.CRITTENTON.
JUST CHECK OUT THE 1ST TEAM ALL NBA SUMMER LEAGUE & HE'S 3RD ON THE LIST..THIS GUY IS GONNA BE GOOD..HE'S BIG, STRONG, ATHLETIC DEFENDER..HE CAN BREAK ANYBODY OF THE DRIBBLE AND FINISH STRONG IN THE LANE..HE HITS THE MIDRANGE WITH PURE CONSISTENCY..HE ALSO SHOT 40+% FROM THE 3, HE HANDLES THE BALL WELL, SETS TEAMMATES UP, A GIFTED PASSER, PLAYS CONFIDENTLY LIKE A FLOOR GENERAL...STEVE FRANCIS IN HIS PRIME WITHOUT THE BAGGAGE IS WHAT THEY ARE COMPARING HIM TO..I DON'T THINK INDIANA HAS ANYBODY LIKE THAT..AS MUCH AS IT WOULD HURT TO SEE A GUY LIKE THIS GO, WE ALREADY GOT FISHER, FARMER, SASHA TO RUN POINT..PG IN THE TRIANGLE ONLY NEED TO HAVE MIDRANGE, AND 3PT SHOTS..PACERS COULD USE J.CRITT MORE THAN WE NEED HIM..WHAT LAKERS NEED IS J.O

Y'ALL GOT 2 MANY FORWARDS ALREADY, I DON'T THINK YOU NEED LAMAR (A SF IN A PF BODY THAT CANNOT POST UP)

IN SUMMARY WOULD U BE HAPPY WITH 1)BYNUM (YOUNG BACK TO BASKET CTR), 2)KWAME (9 MILL OF THE BOOKS), 3)COOK (LONG RANGE 3PT SPECIALIST)& 4)J.CRITT (A PG, WITH SHOOTING ABILITIES THAT CAN TAKE IT HARD TO THE HOLE LIKE D.WADE)
5)MAYBE A 1ST ROUND 2008 DRAFT PICK?

FOR J.O.

WHO LIKES THIS TRADE?

BYNUM

DO U THINK LARRY BIRD WILL DO THIS SINCE J.ONEAL'S VALUE IS SLIPPING DAILY?

IN CASE YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN PACER LAND..
http://www.topix.net/forum/source/indianapolis-star/T988T6RTVJ0182D9F

Sorry guys not my post. Although I have the same concerns about everyone other than Kobe not working out this offseason.

Especially since a whole lot of them are coming off injuries. There has to be some kind of strengthening, less-injury-to-be-caused kind of workout right? I mean at this point I feel like we need a contingency plan for when our players get injured (and normally that would be the 2nd string, or 3rd string...but as we saw last season, there's no substituting for Luke lol).

"I'm just waitning for the Victoria Beckam Sex Tape!"

Bloggers.......another hot one in So. Cal today! Foremost...welcome back D-Fish!

I think we have done all the big things we could do this off-season. If we even entertain bringing KG to LA, or should I say if the Wolves entertain letting go of KG, nothing will happen until August 5th. I am sure that we will sign Mihm before that time...and that possibly could be the deal breaker for us.

I truly believe that LO is on the caliber of KG. Personally, I'd rather have Lamar. His passion, heart, and desire to play in LA is enough for me. I also believe he will have the All-Star season he has always been pushing himself towards.

This team is very good when healthy. People such as Bynum, Vlad, Kwame, and even Farmar (to a point) have a major thing to prove this year. If Mihm signs back with LA, he has an even bigger point to prove. There is no doubt in my mind that this team will be hungry this year. Phil knows this.....and this is exactly what he may have been hoping for.

Putting BIG Stars together does not always work. Kobe was just a young, unproven high school star when he came over to the Lakers with Shaq. Kobe became a true star when he joined the Lakers. Let us not forget the Malone-Payton experiment......too many stars.......not enough players!!!!!

The Lakers will be a force this year. 50+ win season.......I'll bet anyone on the blog that this becomes a reality!

CBUCK
"i'm kinda pissed that i was added to the roll call after Gunner24."

No, No, No! II't not enougth that I have a pissed JJ to deal with and
trying to dodge man eating Zombies but now, BUT NOW , WE GOT A PISSED CBUCK!
My brother I apologize. When next The Roll Call appears I will have moved your
name to another position.

Where do you guys get the idea that Luke improved every year??

He was one of the worst players in the league for his first three years (if not the worst). The opposing teams completely ignored Luke while he was on the floor in that time. He ABSO-LUKELY SUCKED in year 1 through year 3. There was no improvement, except an increase in minutes due to our pathetic roster, injuries, and the Caron trade. He suddenly improved ONLY in his fourth year (his contract year), and that only lasted a few months. To summarize, Luke played decent in about 30 games out of over 330!

QUICKWOR,
Were you joking about that Shaq trade or was it just a rumor? Can you please send the link?

Hal,
Your was stories are funny but SO TRUE. Keep 'em coming.

If the Buss wants to win an O'Brien
Then maybe he ought to start tryin'
If you say Fish will erase
All the troubles we face
Well, my friend, you would be lyin'!

Mr. Hobbit

"Your "crap" is so much better than this weak s*&t."

i would argue that my "crap" stinks just like everyone else's (except kobe's and Lakertomgirl's cuz we all know kobe and lakertomgirl's crap don't stink.....j/k), but i thank you for your comment. As for Luigi, he is entitied to his opinions on kobe just like you and me. I always welcome opinions, good or bad.
