One hip leads to another

Phil Jackson will have his left hip replaced (with, we can only assume, an artificial one) this morning.  Unlike with last season's procedure on the right hip, he should be good to go in plenty of time for training camp.   Perhaps it's worth checking in on Johnny Buss' MySpace page to see how he feels about it.  After all, this Dr. Jerry progeny, who has no input into hoops decisions, has already used it to express his opinion on the Kobe drama.  Are there any cousins or former classmates who'd like to weigh in, too?  Long lost uncles or orphaned children?

My Lord,

LeBron passed again, down by 2, 12 seconds left...missed shot.

Wes

After the NBA game ABC is anouncing some talks about Jhonny Buss statements in myspace.

What are we all 13 now? What 50 year man has a myspace page anyway? ...that ISN'T a pedophile

gunner24...

whats your point? it is COMMON knowledge that during that finals, the lakers were having issues with each other... they were quarreling among themselves...

now if you cant give MORE stats to prove your point then dont bother...

how about giving the stats of THIS season... in relation to the WIN LOSS column... now that will be MORe interesting...

Unlike you we rather not dwell in the past...

LeBron WAS fouled on that last play...the Spurs are feeding again from the the NBA's favored nipple...

Wes

Wesjoenixon,
sorry about the typo above

Can we get an update soon? I have to go sit in a burlap-walled adobe-colored cubical in a couple hours, and I need to be well rested and perky to maximize my clerical proof-reading abilities.

Wes

Ok 3-0 Spurs, I had the Spurs in 5. But this was the game I had the Cavs winning so now I don't know. But again, it was another reason that I a am not to thrilled with the idea of trading Kobe. 4 down with 3 minutes to go, I want Kobe with the ball in his hands. Heck I would take D-wade or even Baron Davis in that situation before I would take Labron. I am not dissing Labron, he is a great player and is only going to get better. But he isnt a closer. He is a Magic type player and there is nothing wrong with that. He needs better players around him, that he can find for open shots. When he has to do it on his own, he is not to the point where he can consistantly carry a team on his back.

I'm counting 83 min since the last update...

As you can see Kobe averaged ( 6.2(first) + 5.8(C.S.F)+ 5.5(C.F) + 4.4(F))/4 = 5.475 assists for the 2004 play-offs

Shaq averaged less than 50% at the line for the 2004 playoffs.
Shaq averaged ( 3.6(first) + 2.0(C.S.F)+ 2.8(C.F) + 2.8(F))/4 = 2.8 assists for the 2004 play-offs

Kobe was the leading assist player for the lakers thus blowing your ball hog theory. He had a bad shooting game during the finals. But according to you haters Kobe was just a towel boy and it was Shaq and the Lakers team. So what else you haters expecting. The rest of the team did nothing, hence you cannot win if the rest of team shoots lest than 40% , when the main star is shooting more than 50% but is shooting less than 40% from the line and dishing less than 3.0 assist per game.

Maybe Shaq should have tried harder to make his teamates better!!!!! LOL!!!

You haters are so predictable. Only telling half the story to back up your hate!!!

Please explain how all your trades can ever happen since the 'Ball Hog' as you like to call him, had the sense to be the only player with a no trade clause. Hence he can vito and trade he does not like.

Please try understand the concept. I know, it kill you haters!!!

Say after me,

Kobe has a no trade clause in his contract, he goes when & where he wants to go!!!

Please make you mind up, how can you trade Kobe since according to you haters he is ball hog, not a team player and shoots to much. You are not going to get you fantasy players. You are going to have to keep hating for 2yrs and your dreams will come true when Kobe walks away and the we get nothing for him.

You haters better understand, Kobe is holding all the cards here!!!!

wesjoenixon,

That foul would have gave Lebron two shots and the Cavs would still be down one point with no time outs and under 3 seconds to play. Other than that, the refs have been pretty consistent while the Spurs have demonstrated that they are by far the superior team.

Fatty,
Please ask your brother:

1) Is speeding 10 MPH above the speed limit, are both teams above the luxury tax, or just the one who is driving?

Ron Jaworski,

Before opening your mouth next time, maybe you should read what one of your groupie friend said to me.

"Team of 2 two superstars and very good role players assembled by West and coached by PJ did it. On fourth one, he rode cottails of Wade, who got a help from the Stern and Co (24 free throws!!!) If he was soo good why he did not carry Lakers to 4th one with Malone and Payton? You probably smoking something..."

SO MY RESPONSE, TO HIS ATTACK ON ME (NOT TO MENTION THAT IT WAS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS) WAS THE STATS TO SHOW WHY SHAQ COULDN'T CARRY US TO A 4TH FINALS CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST DETROIT.

Game 1: Kobe 10-27 (37%) Rest of Lakers 19-46 (41%)
Game 2: Kobe 14-27 (52%) Rest of Lakers 24-53 (45%)
Game 3: Kobe 4-13 (31%) Rest of Lakers 23-61 (38%)
Game 4: Kobe 8-25 (32%) Rest of Lakers 25-53 (47%)
Game 5: Kobe 7-21 (33%) Rest of Lakers 24-54 (44%)

Kobe has a no trade clause in his contract, he goes when & where he wants to go!!!

Kobe has a no trade clause in his contract, he goes when & where he wants to go!!!

Keep hating!!!!

FATTY.....what the hell is cricket?...its the sport of kings..lol....Australia are like the spurs...a very well oiled machine...newzealand....are like the cavs...a couple of stars but still a couple of years away...they do have a very good one day team...what is one day cricket....its when 2 teams each get 50 overs to bowl the other team out(in each over the bowler has 6 bowls to get the batter out)if the team cant bowl the batting team out within the 50 overs then the total after the 50 overs is what the bowling team have to make without getting out...Each team has 11 players...1 wicket keeper.and 4 strike bowlers and a spin bowler or a medium pace bowler....test cricket is played over 5 days..the bowling team needs to bowl 90 overs in the day that they bowling unless they bowl the batting team out ...the way a team wins the test match is by bowling out the other team out twice otherwise they can draw if the run total is not reached.....cricket is not a sport for everyone...but if you have the chance to watch a couple of games then you might understand why over a billion people follow it.....kiwi sorry about the reference to the cavs....lol

I can't believe how many people are jumping to trade lamar.

Lamar and Bynum to Indy for J O'neal and Tinsley is a HORRIBLE trade. Any trade where the lakers end up with Tinsley is a horrible trade. The lakers need good players with good contracts, not another defensively awful guard who has attitude problems and makes a fortune. O'Neal is a good player, and would be a tremendous help, but he's not worth trading lamar.

All you people talking about Lamar and Kobe not playing well together are nuts. Before Lamar got injured he was playing probably the best ball of his career. And the Lakers as a team were winning more than anyone expected. The man has heart, wants to be here, and is incredibly skilled for his size. There are only two players I would include Lamar in a trade for. Tim Duncan (obviously not going to happen) or Kevin Garnett (unlikely as well). Packaging Lamar with Bynum for anyone else is just foolish.

What the Lakers need to do is take a serious run at Artest, find a PG who can hit an open shot and play some D with their MLE, and try to land a Gasol/O'Neal or other low-post scorer/defender/rebounder dangling Bynum, their Pick and anyone else EXCEPT Kobe or Lamar.
It won't be easy, but even if they don't manage to get someone down low, adding artest and a real PG would be a big improvement to the team, and just maybe enough to lure Garnett as a FA the year after. They also need to, at all costs, avoid getting stuck with another dud contract (like Tinsley).

If that is not doable, then trade Kobe to the Suns. Some combo of Marion, Diaw Barbosa and draft pick(s) coming back. Suns win the championship probably, but the Lakers have a decent future ahead if they also deal Kwame for something.

Wes
"LeBron WAS fouled on that last play...the Spurs are feeding again from the the NBA's favored nipple..."

Yeah you are right he was fouled. But in my opinion (and he also confirmed this) it was a weak foul and did not effect his shot that much at all. Great players make that shot. Just put Jordan instead of LBJ, if Jordan had such a clean look he would have buried it.

In my opinion the foul was before the shot and I think the refs saw the foul but decided to let them play instead of stoping the game and sending LBJ to the foul line. I do not think it was Spurs favoritism. Actually obviously spurs went for the foul so that the cavs would shoot two free throws and then the spurs would have the ball back. But the refs saw through it and let the game be. If LBJ has sunk that shot I am sure the Spurs would be complaining about the no call!!!

Fatty,

Thanks for the feedback, I just copy-pasted it to word format to read it carefully later. lol

MH:

LeBron IS a Magic type player, but Magic was a winner through and through - he could do anything on any given night to win.

Magic was a closer.

Let's not get that point twisted.

Hey gunner

If 4 years ago still matters, try at least painting an accurate picture. You act as if by the time we reached the finals we were still somehow a good team. Think again

Malone had sprained a ligiment in his knee and was only 8-24 in limited minutes.

Payton never did get Phil he was 8-26

Devon George yes remeber he started then. No one ever called Devon big game Dev, 7-19

Our bench?

How about Fish struggling with a severely sprained ankle. Managed only around 20 minitues a game

Rick Fox was still hurt was only able to play 29 minutes the entire series.

So who was getting minutes?

All world Slava, Kareem Rush, (Now tearing up the Euro league) and luke(actually played fairly well for a rook) 90 year old Bryan Russell and cook hardly played. It was amazing that we even won a game.

So if you recall the Pistons basically surrounded Shaq and were able to double Kobe. And now look at that roster. While I am at it might as well make another point.

Fox,Malone and Russell retired. So say Dr Buss had given Shaq the 30 mil he was demanding and Extened Kobe. I think his 1st yr was like 16 mil. So thats 46 mil and the salary cap was somewhere around 48 49 mil at the time. Now here is your depth chart

Shaq
Kobe
Payton
Fisher
Deavon George
Luke
Rush
Cook
Slava
and you have 3 to 4 mil to sign a free agent and the Mle probably in the mid 4 mil range.

Introducing the 2005 NBA champions? Hardly. We were over.

MH

Since someone brought up Magic...I thought this might be something we'll all enjoy lol.

Magic's 1987 sky hook game winner...it's tiny sorry.

Aloha Socalife

You missed my point. Magic is personally my favorite player of all time and your right he is a winner. But he did it differntly then say MJ or Kobe. He did score in tight situations but he did his damage as a play maker. That was his game. Everyone wants to compare Labron to MJ but his game is more like Magics and it is a shame that he doesnt have more help around him so everyone could see where his true greatness lays.

MH

Mike T
We scored 110 points but lost by 9 points. That's a defensive problem. That's been the story all year long.

Kwame can not score 15 points against Duncan!
Kwame can not play defense against Steve Nash!

We need low post offense! We need shot blocker! Kwame Brown does not provide any of these! He needs to be the first one traded!

LUKE WALTON IS BETTER THAN KWAME BROWN!
CHRIS MIHM IS BETTER THAN KWAME BROWN!
YET LUKE AND CHRIS MIHM SHOULD NOT START!

KWAME SHOULD BE IN THE DEVELOpmental league...

"Before opening your mouth next time, maybe you should read what one of your groupie friend said to me."

what??

i dont get it... you really are on SOMETHING...

regardless of who you are talking to, my post is always as it is. WHY DO YOU EVEN BOTHER GIVING STATS JUST TO PROVE YOUR POINT THAT KOBE IS A BALLHOG?? WE ALREADY KNOW THAT. but does it matter?? AS LONG AS WERE WINNING - NO! thats why i told you why not look at the stats of this season.

youre implying that shaq couldnt win the finals for them because kobe is hogging the ball?? There are 5 players on the court... why do you think the other 3 players keep givin kobe the ball? - yeah right - because maybe, just MAYBE - shaq wasnt doing well also!

Dwell in the past b*tch

gunner... tarugo... fakerz.... whatever your name is... youre all AIR... no substance...

Gunner,

"NOT TO MENTION THAT IT WAS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS"

stop posting CRAP... and well leave you to your OWN business... Post something new. Kobe being a ballhog is OLD news. Who cares. He can have the ball as long as he wants, he's the only one who can shoot in that team anyways...

everytime I log in and read post you ALWAYS.. ALWAYS have some "trade kobe" revolution going on... what the hell? STOP IT ALREADY WE GET YOUR SENTIMENT. now marvel us with something NEW.

a$$wipe...

doesnt matter if lebron was fouled or not... now way the refs going to bail him out... He has to be tougher than that...

Thats why lebron will always be lebron - HYPED by the nba...

and please, it would be unfair to compare him with Magic... he might have the physical attributes og magic, but he doesnt have his efficiency... yeah he can dunk and elevate - thats his only leverage against Magic...

And please... noway is jordan and lebron in the SAME level... the same way kobe is different from jordan...

dont get me wrong.. Lebron is GOOD. but not THAT good... - yet

THE LEGEND CONTINUES TO BE CEMENTED!

Another day, another batch of turnovers and bricks (That's why we need the cement).

Great performances on the world stage in the Olympics & WC, followed up by a scintillating NBA Finals.

All hail the King!

Seriously, 50 points in three quarters for the Cavs? I have seen some players who can do that by themselves.

Gunner24...

Very clever youve picked up on my free agent status...while my tendency to pick up technical fouls and lose concentration reduces my value slightly...but I can see Im a perfect fit... time to woo

great explanation of the most complicated game out there....it is a fantastic sport and its had a huge impact on the history of the world. If anyopnes interested i can explain why it took off in all the major colonies but not North America..it was a huge method to indoctronate colonial peoples to British values..Calling NZ the cavs is flattering NZ Im not sure we have that much promise...Australia has far and away been the dominant team for a good decade or longer now...spurs they are more like the bulls. Its sickening their second best national one day tema is probably the second best one days side on the world...they are that dominant.

Tim4

LOL! sorry man consider it like being posterized you just appreciate the dunk even though its nothing personal against the guy whos getting dunked on LOL!

Kobe is not happy as a Laker, no matter what he says to the local media. We have to imagine a team without Kobe now. It appears Kobe wants Chicago or New York.

Kobe ruined our championship run. And know he betrays the fans.

We are likely to land Nocioni, Gordan, Deng, plus more. Which is a very good deal for an under achieving superstar like Kobe.

Miami and the Rockets are seriously interested in Artest.........if we overlook the Defensive intesity Artest brings to the table.......then we're seriously not looking for a championship contender, but sweet nice role models.

I guess Detroit is gonna get rid of Rasheed Wallace because he has such a bad attitude.........LOL..........get real!!

WHY DAVID STERN SHOULD RESCUE THE LAKERS

It won't happen, but one could make the case that the NBA itself should intervene and force a shake up in the Lakers front office.

The NBA Finals are suffering through record low TV ratings, despite the star power of LaBron James and Tim Duncan. An astonishing 47% of those responding to an on-line Fox Sports poll say NOTHING would make them watch the NBA Finals, and these -- obviously -- are sports fans.

The problem is simple math. Cleveland is the #17 TV market and San Antonio is all the way down at #37.

Meanwhile, the NBA's storied major market franchises: Los Angeles, New York and Boston are in tatters. Fans in the biggest cities who love the traditional NBA rivalries are not vested and don't care.

One could argue that unless the NBA finds a way to make the Lakers, Knicks, and Celtics competitive again, it is doomed to become irrelevant to the majority of sports fans.

Instead of constantly being all over the players, maybe David Stern should be knocking heads with the owners, like Dr. Buss. Starting with the Lakers makes sense. With the right moves, the Lakers are the closest of the three teams to putting together the right pieces. How about a two year amnesty on the salary cap, for example?

Imagine if the Lakers roster could be stocked with the best players, just like the NY Yankees. Sure, the Yankees seem to struggle at the beginning of every season, but people still care. Give the Celts and Knicks the same opportunity. Restore the great rivalries.

OK, maybe this wouldn't be fair to teams in smaller markets. But for some reason, they seem to be doing OK. But you can't argue with the math. Even Detroit is a smaller market than the 909 area code.

I'll acknowledge that the idea of David Stern forcing a return to sanity in the Lakers front office is a far-fetched one. But think of the possibilities!

gunner24,

You are a piece of work. How about I'll post Shaq and Kobe respective free throws % and declare Shaq is useless because he can not make a 50% freebies? Your stats taking out of content mean NOTHING to me. Everybody who just a little bit aware about this game knows (obviously with exeption as someone like you) players playing in the low post aka positions 5 and 4 in 99% of the time have a much better % than any guards. Does it ever occured to you? Doeas ever occured to you there are direct corellation between distance to the hoop and % made/missed shots? If not go ahead and compare % of Karrem vs Magic and I bet you'll declare Magic was totaly useless. If Shaq was soo great why he did not bring anything to Orlando? Why he can not carry Heat this season from being swept in the 1st round when Wade was hurt and can not play?

Don't bother to reply, with people like you I'm not going to argue, it's pointless.

I don't think you can argue with a guy/gal who's handle is Socrates.
And at any rate, i wouldn't, because i totally agree. LO is a KEEPER.
i know if the lakers want to land a big fish, theoretically he may be required to go. But, for the first time in my life i spent money on an OFFICIAL lakers jerseys. It has a big number 7 on it and Odom on the back. LO is my guy. I think that LO is the team player that the Lakers need to buffer between Kobe and the "other guys". LO is the tour manager for "Kobe Bryant and the Pips".
Priority # 1 is getting Artest. If they can chase down Artest without trading away half the lineup that's a great start to the summer. His salary is pocket change (compared to others of similar talent) and would THRIVE (yeah, i said it) on a team with BOTH kobe and LO. The Lakers score plenty of points. We need a team that can win games like last night: 75 - 72... knock down, drag out, beat-em-up basketball.
We won't have bankrupted the future to get Artest, and will be left with enough assests to still improve our remaining pieces.
Don't be foolish Busses. (although that's like telling a dog to NOT stand on four legs).
Just say no to JO.
Say yes to Artest.

"LeBron passed again, down by 2, 12 seconds left...missed shot."

It was a passback situation - he was supposed to get the ball right back. Varejao screwed that one up, and Lebron, Mike Brown, and every commentator in the world agrees on that. You're an idiot.

"That foul would have gave Lebron two shots and the Cavs would still be down one point with no time outs and under 3 seconds to play. Other than that, the refs have been pretty consistent while the Spurs have demonstrated that they are by far the superior team. "

Don't be stupid fkillah. Besides the fact that NBA refs give continuation (and therefore 3 shots in this case) half the time on a foul like that, and the Cavs would have had the opportunity to go for a made free throw + purposed miss with tip-in (like almost happened in last year's Detroit series), you lied about the Cavs timeouts. Since the Cavs finished the game with one timeout still on the board, they obviously wouldn't have had "no time outs".

How are those conspiracy theorists dealing with the fact that for the 2nd series in a row, Lebron was clearly fouled at the end of a game and didn't get the call?

Thus far, the front office:
-allowed a crackhead horse trainer in Jim Buss to have authority over basketball decisions.
-allowed Buss Boy to air out his complaints about Phil publicly, although he doesn't even attend practices.
-allowed Buss Boy to claim his power to the throne by stating Kobe "can" be traded publicly.
-had the supposed owner arrested for DUI.
-allowed the supposed owner to go on vacation in a time of Laker crisis.
-drafted Brian Cook ahead of Barbosa in the first round, despite
Ron Harper's (our scout at the time) pleas to the front office that Barbosa would be a definate star in the league.
(Josh Howard, Carlos Delfino, Kendrick Perkins were all drafted in the 1st round after Cook).
-signed 60 year old Vlade Divac. -signed 50 year old Aaron McKie, who couldn't even get any minutes on the Sixers!
I can go on forever. Mangement has proven that they have absoultely no clue. Trading Kobe is definately a possiblility

DIVIDE OR CONQUER US

Don't trade Lamar for the sake of getting JO.

Get Rudy Fernandez and/or Marco Billineli, both are shooting guards. Get them thru drafts or trade. Rudy and Marco is the equivalent of Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli in two years' time. Put Kobe on 3 and Lamar on 4

Trade Bynum or Kwame, Cook & Sasha or Walton for Pau Gasol.

Spend the MLE to a good and veteran PG with salary options for future considerations. I'm thinking of Chauncey Billups. Convince him to be a Laker and upgrade his salary later like Rick Fox deal.

So if Kobe is surrounded by good shooters and fast players, Lakers will compete without depleting its lineup with JO.

If Lakers get those three Euros + Vladrad (remember a euro has a higher value than a dollar) plus a hotshot PG this will be a hot Euroleague team. Kobe would like this lineup since he grew up as a euro.

Did anyone hear the piece on AM 570 of some dude recording Kobe on his cell phone ripping the Lakers and dropping F-Bombs about Andrew Bynum?

Saw it on another site, just thought I would check in here.

Hey Johnny Buss:

if you want to please the Laker fans in trading Kobe in '07, you have to substitute him with KG, Lebron and D'Wade in return. This is next to impossible so anything less is close to impossible, perhaps you're getting confused in trading with young women and horses.. You better keep quiet or else your dysfunctional family will spend your last years as Laker owners. Take your GM with you. Laker fans could force a fire sale of the Lakers.

Benny Blanca, "Just say no to JO. Say yes to Artest."
No to JO
Yes to Artest

JMan499, "All hail the King! Seriously, 50 points in three quarters for the Cavs?
I have seen some players who can do that by themselves."
That about says it all.

Michael H, "Introducing the 2005 NBA champions? Hardly. We were over."
Thank you very much. In the running for Post Of The day

LA Guy,

You're sounding more and more like a LeBron apologist.
Was that last 3 a foul? Yes. Would it have counted for a continuation? May be. But that isn't why the Cavs lost.

After all, there was a similar Manu non-call where he got hammered by 2 different defenders on the way to the hoop. There was another instance where Boobie (he he:)) fouled Parker on a drive without continuation being awarded. Calls did go both ways. To insinuate that LeBron was robbed is a pathetic excuse. If that were the case, Kobe gets robbed EVERY game :)

They deserved to lose (and I mean the CAVS not LeBron) - they had Tim Duncan in foul trouble for the entire first half but still couldn't take advantage. Duncan/Parker/Manu all had horrible games and the Spurs still won.

Look, everyday that I check the computer and this horrible Odom for JO trade had not gone through is a great day. I know Kupchek is a pinata for the leagues GMs but I'm tired of watching teams like Washington and Miami getting all the candy.

We only dwell on OUR issues but fortunately other teams have problems too. WHY CAN'T WE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM SOMETIMES?

Utah looks like its deciding to bail on Kirilenko. The owner called him out the other day so rudely I don't know how they are going to get ANY real value for him. I don't think they care at this point they care at this point they just want to dump his salary so they can afford extensions for some of their other players.

Kirilenko is the kind of psych issue player that Dr. Phil could help. He would be perfect in the triangle. His help defense would be a huge improvement (think Walton, Cook) over last years club. The club taking the next step involves getting better defensively. No one questions Kirilenko's defense.

Kirilenko while emotionally fragile is not the risk that Artest is. He will never ruin the team's chemistry. We must have one or the other. The league is full of high scoring SFs just ready to torch us. If we could keep some of these guys out of the lane then our centers would be in less foul trouble all the time (weel maybe not Mihm).

We should see what package of stiffs and draft picks would make Utah happy. WHAT SAY YOU?

Rick Friedman,

Ha Ha - that'll happen exactly 2 seconds after pigs learn to fly :)

LeBron has to learn a post game. That's the next step in his evolution. At this point Kobe and Wade both have better games in the post. Once he does that, he'll be truly unstoppable.

Hey Mike

"I am not dissing Labron, he is a great player and is only going to get better. But he isnt a closer. He is a Magic type player and there is nothing wrong with that. "

Magic was a great closer (see baby hook shot with McHale and Chief all over him)

http://www.nba.com/history/magichook_moments.html

Isaiah Thomas wants Kobe Bryant. LOL make it double LOL!!!

"Thomas has not approached the Lakers yet with a firm offer, though he admitted at Orlando's pre-draft camp he concocted a series of tentative offers. Sources say the Knicks would be atop Bryant's and O'Neal's wish lists. Bryant has a no-trade clause and can nix any deal." - NY Post

What can you offer that Lakers cannot refuse? Crawford + Curry + #4 draft pick, you can wish upon any stars that trade will never happen even if you put in the whole NY Knicks. However, you can dream in the blog or marinate a rumor in the hoopshype and insidehoops.

There is a hollywood line that says: "you have nothing.....nothing....and nothing" and add here a brooklyn line....u madame fu*ker!

reality check time,

I'd definitely take Kirilenko over Walton and Cook. Good suggestion. Hello, Mitch!!

Edwin,

I could go a step further and propose that the NBA revoke the franchise. If the Buss family is no longer committed to a great Laker team, they should be forced to sell.

Edwin Gueco, "Don't trade Lamar for the sake of getting JO."
I agree. And welcome back. Sorry about your loss.

Edwin Gueco, "perhaps you're getting confused in trading with young women and horses"
The line of the day.

We have too many people feeding the trolls & some are even on the list of faithful. Guys, we cannot have intelligent debates if we're revisting the same tired arguments for the past three months.

That Dynasty is over... ovah! We're talking about getting back to the top or Laker topics not centered around the reasons why we ought to gut the team.

Rick,
Excellent post once again. Personally, I think perhaps the Lakers, Knicks, and Celtics ought to consider leaving the NBA all together and start their own league. I know its impossible, I know it would never happen, and I know the product would sort of suck for at least three years. But as was the case in other sports leagues, it CAN be done successfully.

James Naismith would be rolling over in his grave, first from the joy of how big basketball became, and then at the dismay of it heading right into the ground as it is now. The same media and commercialism that helped propel Michael into a sports god has since helped produce the destruction of the game (along with some help from our friend David Stern). Why do I say this?

Dunks and three pointers.

For the past 15 years, all kids work on is dunks and three pointers. The game has become a highlight reel mockery.

Don't believe me? When David Stern moved the three pointer closer, scoring went down. One reason would be spacing, the other would be more three point attempts, which means more outside shooting, which means less basketball and more jacking up shots. Meanwhile, the league itself has rewarded players with gigantic money for nearly nothing. It's really getting bad. Then you compound all of this with their attempt at parity, so that the Grizzlies have just as much opportunity to become the next dynasty as the Blazers. A team like the Knicks or Lakers now have little to no hope as the league is currently structured, unless players start opting out of their contracts and signing for pennies on the dollar.

In the days of MJ, baseball was on the decline. As unrestricted as baseball is (with salaries, no cap, etc) and as slow as it is (9 innings), the minute the NBA got high on itself with the endless hype machine, that's when baseball came back into favor. Now the NBA finals are an after thought.

NBA Action... it's fantastic alright, but watched only a little more than the NHL.

Re: LeBron getting no respect from officials
Are you guys on crack? This is the same league that brought us last year's miraculous DWade combeback on the back of falling down 7 times, taking 24 free throws on a total of what, 5 field goal attempts? Now you want to say the refs are purposely not calling the Spurs for fouls? You've got to be kidding... if anything, David Stern is on the phone right now ripping those refs so that they turn this thing into a series... I can see the headlines now, Cavs do the unthinkable, force a game 7.

Ex - I said it was a lousy illustration.

"Here's a lousy illustration: The posted speed limit is 65 mph. Most cops will let you exceed the limit by 5 MPH (My brother is a cop) When you hit 70 MPH you will have to pay the fine."

And for those of you who went out last night and got a ticket for going 67 mph in a 65 MPH zone, I apologize. (It was just my brother the cop's opinion)
He is a Laker fan, and I'm sure he would go easy on you if you shared your fandom with him. He works in the San Bernardino area and tells me he especially likes to pull over cars with bumper stickers that flash niner's fan.
If I was a niner fan living in Socal I would be out there right now, scrapping that bumper sticker off my car. haha lol njk

Fatty - Always a Ram's Fan, Always.

So we're one Spurs win away from our 2001-2004 run being eclipsed by the Spurs. Great. Now the Spurs, and not us, get to be the 'Team of the Aughts.'

I can't think of a better omen for us to get rid of the old (8/24) and get on with the new. I'm SO tired of this middling, postseason bust stuff.

If you want to know what an Apologist's rant looks like, the textbook definition, look at Wes' piece from yesterday (6.12) at 6:39 pm. These are the 'Ride-or-Die with Kobe' fans that scare me to death. They don't give a darn about the Lakers, it's all about Kobe.

Nope. No it's not.

It's about the franchise, what's good for the franchise. The hell with Kobe - he hasn't done jack but play Pippen to Shaq's Jordan. There are plenty of guys who can do that (Penny, D-Wade), but with MUCH less drama, potential criminal liability and team disloyalty.

I'm gradually starting to have some hope that Cancer Man might be on his way out. Sure, it's only Boy Buss' MySpace, but any shred of hope has to be seized on. A long time ago I mentioned a potential Bulls trade. Maybe that will materialize.

The Spurs are about to knock us off of the high perch Shaq placed us on. It's time to get rid of the scraps and start fresh. No drama, no jersey changes, no image rehabilitations.

Just basketball. Team basketball.

It's way past time.

Fatty:

"Gen ONE saying strange things. He's 30 and his life is over?"

I've heard that 40 is the new 30, so wouldn't 30 be the new 25 or 14 or something? I was never that great with math.

Andrew Z:

"Did anyone hear the piece on AM 570 of some dude recording Kobe on his cell phone ripping the Lakers and dropping F-Bombs about Andrew Bynum?"

Didn't hear it, but the guy is evidently selling it to the highest bidder. CBS has offered something like $20k for it.

Hariyahu.

Although Cavaliers & Lebron beat the Piston fair and square, I think these Finals would have been more exciting if the match up would be Spurs vs. Pistons and the Piston coach is Larry Brown.

Here is another irony for these young players who bypassed College hoops or shortcircuited their stay in College, they lacked the full bred skills and maturity of Larry, Magic and MJ. Supposedly, this generation of players should be better than the previous generation, the TV ratings disagree with that saying.

AZ, I heard that too, but Hartman didn't sound too convinced about the legitamacy of the sources that said they had the recording. Also, If they really do have the recording, wouldn't it be illegal to have recorded it in the first place.

Watching the Cavs play is so reminiscent of watching the Lakers, except the Cavs superstar is a notch below Kobe, and the Cavs supporting players are a notch above the Lakers supporting players as a whole. I feel for Cavs fans. Glad to see that Kobe is not the only one who gets no-called at the end of games.

thirty 2 "what the hell is cricket?..."

Thank you for your explanation of Cricket.

Could you be so kind as to translate that to English for me?

Bowls?........Test?......Wicket?.... What and the hell are you talking about? lol

NZ: Isn't New Zealand just a province of Australia where the hobbits live?

Fatty - Its 9:00 AM and still waiting for some NBA news

Some trade scenerios in order to improve the lakers around kobe:

odom for erick dampier and devean george:

we need a player like devean george who knows the triangle and understands what the organisation is really about during these days, and dampier provides excellent experience, mostly on the bench off course now that Mckie is retiring, and he can also help nurture 20 year old "still" baby project Andrew Bynum

walton, evans, turiaf and farmar for Olowokandi:

This would convert us in one of the most athletic teams in the league plus it would take pressure off Kwame's shoulders by displacing him as the biggest bust on the team

Check that, Spurs won 1st one in '98-99. So we'll be tied in the Aughts. But still Spurs 4, LAL 3 since '99.

Why do you guys keep feeding material to Gunner24? He is a scumbag low life who obviously knows very little about basketball

Probably smells bad too!

LA_Guy:

What's so astonishing about that?
Ref's always swallow their whistles at the end of games, it happens in the regular season and it happens in the playoffs. I don't agree with it, but it happens.

Sometimes he fakes it, but a lot of times at the end of games Kobe gets mauled and they don't call fouls. Other stars too (cuz you know they don't call it for the fringe players).

fakerz:

Lakers 14 - Spurs 4 :)

LeBron's a fine player, but he is nowhere near Magic or even Kobe yet.

LeBron is about a pre-injury Penny Hardaway level right now. Remember, that's pretty d---n good, but it's not anywhere near GOAT talk yet.

mitch and jim:

Well played, good sir. I think that George, Dampier, and Kandi are EXACTLY what this team needs.

Fatty,
It was a typo. That should be "bowels."

Edwin Gueco,

First of all - my condolences on your loss..
As far as the Pistons-Spurs series goes, I think it would have been a lot more competitive. I think the Pistons match up very well against the Spurs. 'Sheed would have given Duncan the fits, and no way Balance Toi gets to have his way with Billups on him. Not to mention that Ginobli would have lost all of hair trying to run around with Rip.

I honestly think that the Pistons got too complacent and looked beyond the Cavs - they tried to win the ECF on 4th gear thinking that they would need 5th gear only in the Finals.

Oh well, back to Laker stuff :)

BrandonC,

Couldn't agree more. The trolls are just attention-seeking wh0res. Take the attention away, and they'll slink off..

WHO DO WE DRAFT?

It's getting close to draft day. Assuming we *don't* trade the picks, who would you pick? (I know that's a big assumption, but hey, I'm bored)

NBADRAFT.net has us picking up Nick Young with the #19. I think that would be good if he dropped down that low. Though I wouldn't mind Rodney Stuckey or Acie Law either. Anyone of those three would be an upgrade over Smush. If we don't get a good PG, how about we convert Kobe to the PG and get a good SG/SF (Desmond Mason anyone?)

With the #40 and #48 I think these folks would help us right away:
Big Baby Glen Davis - we could use another big body
Nick Fazekas - Looks like a David Lee with a mid-range game
Jared Dudley - another glue guy should Walton bolt
Arron Affalo - though I doubt if he'll fall that far.

Lakers Keys To Success:

1) Stay healthy
2) Keep Kobe AND Lamar
3) Lamar playing to his potential, undistracted by intense emotional suffering.
4) A third scorer--and star. We need one more player who is at the level of Lamar. A veteran who has been tested and is mentally tough and can quickly adapt to the Triangle. He doesn't need to be a superstar. He just needs to be reliable, mentally tough, and unintimidated by Kobe's competitive mania.
5) Farmar and Bynum having their breakout seasons.
6) Re-signing a healthy Chris Mihm.
7) (As much as I hate to say it) trading Kwame Brown for someone of greater mental toughness. He's just not mentally tough. It sucks.
8) Rad Vlad assuring Laker Nation he was a good signing.
9) Trading away our draft pick.

Trade assets: Bynum. Should we trade him? No.

Players who normally would have great trade value, but we "lose" by trading and why?

1) Lamar: With his injury, he will have lesser value than he normally would, so there's no point in trading down and losing such a versatile player with such potential.

2) Bynum: Since he hasn't proved himself, he's a risk for any team that would have him. Of course, since he hasn't proven himself, there are GMs who will trade for him based upon his potential, so he is a potential trade up. Here's the thing... I have great faith in Kareem as his mentor. I simply cannot fathom that Kareem would let the Lakers down or that Bynum (a respectful, intelligent player) would let his mentor down. So... even though we need Bynum to step up NOW, we'll regret it if we trade him.

3) Rad Vlad: Bonehead injury will cause other GMs to question his intelligence, maturity and physical ability. It's been over a year since he played impressively for the Clippers. We won't get anyone of value in a trade for Rad Vlad, who actually has the potential to be an impressive player.

5) Kwame: Bad hands, inconsistency and mental weakness have become his hallmarks. He has not proven himself and GMs will not have any faith in him. We probably won't get much for him and our draft picks. That much said, perhaps a player demanding a trade, could push a GM to make it worthwhile for the Lakers. Quite frankly, with Bynum, Mihm, and Turiaf on the roster, we just don't need Kwame. So we may not get much for him, but we really don't need him.

We just have to step up. It's a lot of weight on Phil's mighty shoulders. I guess it's time for him to win that "Coach of the Year" award.

GO LAKERS!

If I could trust the office and knew they were competent, then I could agree to a Kobe trade. But I don't trust them, so I don't agree on a Kobe trade.

I don't trust them, after all their bonehead moves, and in-house fighting.

Anyone else with me?

Tim:

“My loyalty will return, but seriously man, that's like walking in on your woman with another dude.”

That was a perfect way of describing how we would all feel if Kobe were traded this summer. Not the worst thing in the world. Not a life threatening event. But very hard to forgive and forget. Not an occurrence any of us would wish on anybody but our worst enemies.

Tom

Papalaukos - Possible FA in NBA

Take notice of thoughts on Kobe. Mentioning teams are waiting to see what Kobe is going to do before they make any trades or FA signing.

Teo admitted the rumours that he is searching for a team in NBA, adding that this team should give him the playing time, the money and the victories that he used to enjoy in Europe. He also revealed that he will definitely stay in CSKA if his dream for NBA will not be a reality. ?I want to go to the NBA but only for playing in the highest level. I am not a teenager anymore; I am almost 31 years old, thus I have to be very careful. I will go to a team that is a winner; I don't want to play for a club that counts 50 losses every season. NBA is not like Europe and I am used to the European style. Here there are no salary cups, transactions and there are some very important and serious laws that are followed by everybody. It is not like Greece?, he stated, adding that ?I am speaking with 12 teams but I cannot reveal them right now. CSKA wants to me to take a final decision till July 15th, but I respect them and I care for this team very much; so I should respond the earlier the possible. I think that a lot of teams are waiting right now and they stand on a weird position, due to the possible transaction of Kobe Bryant?. Referring to his preferring future team, Theodoros Papaloukas said that he would like to ?a team where the coach would respect me and believe on what I can offer. I don't want to be like Vasilis Spanoulis (193-G-82, agency: Beo Basket) that has the quality and the potentials to play in the league but he belongs to a team that hasn't given him the opportunity to play. Personally, I am interested mostly for teams such as San Antonio, Dallas, Detroit, Cleveland and Miami. I am waiting for some changes on those teams. If an important player leaves, maybe there would be an empty place for me. However, it still is a very difficult and an important decision, as well?.

Fatty

Jon Kav,

"He just needs to be reliable, mentally tough, and unintimidated by Kobe's competitive mania."

That is bio chronoligically spot on. It's not the Triangle, it's 24. Players like D Fish knew how to play with Kobe. You've got to know when and when not to defer. A solid, consistent, contributing vet would know that, hopefully. The irony is, we had that with Caron Butler. Another impatient mistake.

Socrates:

Man, you were on a great roll until that last paragraph about trading Kobe to the Suns. If you had quit before that, I would have agreed 100% with everything you said. Good thing I was scrolling down rather than up or I would have skipped your post. I’m with you hoping that we do NOT trade Lamar. I used to say only for KG but I would agree that TD is in the same class, well actually even better. Good post. Work on your closes though. lol.

Hey, are you related to Greek Dude?

Tom

Grant Hill is on the ESPN Dan Patrick show right now. He is a Free Agent and
I think he would be a perfect fit for the Lakers and could be had for the mid
level exception. What do you think.

Anyone - what's with Seth and his Cousin?

Petros and Money had a couple of drunk callers on the air yesterday. Anyone catch that? it sounds like they have audio of Kobe bad mouthing the Lakers organization and players (including a few F bombs).
Supposedly these geeks have video, but that's pretty tough to verify over the phone and over the radio.

AK/BK - set the story straight, is that stuff legit?

Staples 24:

“LUKE WALTON IS BETTER THAN KWAME BROWN!
CHRIS MIHM IS BETTER THAN KWAME BROWN!
YET LUKE AND CHRIS MIHM SHOULD NOT START!”

Oh, Oh! I hear incoming.

Tom

"If I could trust the office and knew they were competent, then I could agree to a Kobe trade. But I don't trust them, so I don't agree on a Kobe trade."

Try this on for size. Kobe has a no-trade clause so he can pretty much dictate what type of team he goes to so the Laker office can try to wiggle back and forth with a presented deal but the basic structure of the deal won't be the Lakers doing. If Chicago, they can't trade Hinrich because Kobe would take Ben Gordon's slot, so Ben Gordon is the first obvious part of a deal. The draft pick #9, would seem to be an obvious part of a deal. Then to pick from the other players, to me, Tyrus Thomas has the most potential and he's not ready to be a starter yet for Chicago so there's a basic structure to work off. Ben Gordon, #9 pick and Tyrus Thomas, then you can haggle about filler, Nocioni, etc. If Kobe is going to the Eastern Conference, we're NOT getting another superstar back, time to deal with reality and not "Kobe is worth this or this".

Luol Deng would seem to be doubtful. Ben Gordon AND Luol Deng guts the Chicago starting lineup, so why would Kobe agree to waive his no trade clause for another rebuilding project? WHY would we want Ben Wallace and his horrible contract? We're rebuilding if Kobe goes, right?

Also consider, Kobe's trade demand has NOT been withdrawn and it has gotten VERY quiet in Lakerland...

It's time to embrace the horror. Where else would Johnny Buss get something like that from?

June 13, 2007

CLEVELAND -- Kobe Bryant's supposed change of heart hasn't changed one important fact about his desire to force a trade from the Lakers: The official trade request that Bryant's agent, Rob Pelinka, issued to general manager Mitch Kupchak is still on the table.

With Lakers owner Jerry Buss vacationing in China, the Kobe saga is expected to be quiet for another week or so. But his oldest son, Johnny, posted some intriguing comments to friends on Myspace.com.
-------------
"Popular or unpopular, when it's time, it's time. Good luck Kobe wherever you go!"

When Kobe opted out and was pretty close to not coming back...afterwards, Dr. Buss was asked what he would have done had we lost Kobe...and he said, "sell the team." Well that's no more scarier now than before...da Dr. made this franchise into what it is, showtime! Well the 80s team had a lot to do with it lol...but Dr. Buss was always the brilliance behind it (by brilliance I mean hiring JWest lol). Our problem imo is the other Buss, or should I say the other Buss's. Since Jim Buss took over basketball operations (of which we apparently shouldn't criticize because we don't know of basketball ha ha) we haven't exactly been jumping up and down with his moves. However I contend that the salary cap hell does not help him any. Mitch Kupchack? I feel bad for him really, he gets blamed a lot all over...but I'm sure his biggest problem is that he really doesn't have the leverage to put his foot down, or maybe I'm wrong.

My point is, scary scary thought to lose Kobe, and for the Buss's to sell the franchise imo.

P.S. Anyone know if the Lakers have like a 100 year lease on LA? We wouldn't want them to move back to Minnesota now lol...NOW that would be scary lol.

GM rule #1-- you don't trade superstars!!!
i dare anyone here to go back in the history of any sport and show me a trade where the team shipping out the superstar got the better of the deal. More likely the teams dumb enough to do this are mired in mediocrity for years even decades sometimes.
Now we face the very real possibility that out Laker FO is about to make the #1 personnel mistake for the second time in 3 years!!
Trade Shaq and then trade Kobe?? are you frikin kiding me? I don't know how I can support a team run like this. This is just too much. If this happens, we should all boycot all things lakers to get the buss familiy out of power now. No staples center, no KCAL games, no FSW games, no jersey sales, no laker merchandise at all. F em. They are on the verge of making us the sixers or the knicks or the celtics. Which one do you guys wanna be like?
dreading the future....jandro

Jon Kav

I looked at your assessment and wanted to put even more of an optomistic look on next years team. These are players that I feel will make nice improvements in their game. These could be key performers in the Lakers quest to contend again.

Farmar - "The Gym Rat" will work his tail off this summer and show remarkable improvement. His shot will improve. He will drive to the basket with little fear and dish off better. On the ball D and switch D will become aggressive. This kid is no longer a rookie. He knows what it takes to compete, and will work 24/7 to improve and reach that level.

Bynum - The Kid is committed. Now has drive to be better. His practice will have more purpose. His feet have been too big for his body which led to the clumsies. His agility and strength will improve. His confidence will improve on low post play. He will become a force and require double teams more often. He will not be a dominant player, but a definate problem for most teams to cope with. He is not starter quality yet. His D will be better. But here I don't see a whole lot of improvement. Kids don't play good D, only real men do. He as yet to show the fire necessary in him to compete well on defense.

Vladimir - Phil, Kobe, the Suns, and the Clippers can't be wrong. They all coveted him. He will overcome his injury. He will understand the triangle and gain confidence in his shooting. His role on the team will be clearly defined. it will show on D and a deadly shot. "Vladie the impaler" will be back.

Ronny - The only thing lacking from Ronny is experince on team D and learning what the officials will let him do. This year he perfected the short jumper. He is NEVER afraid to take the shot and seldom misses. This is Mitches best draft pick. He soon will be Boozer quality, and play better D. I have seen few players grow as fast as him on the NBA level. This lion cub has the heart of lion and will become the Lion King next year. Possible 6th man of year quality player. 18-24 minutes a game.

Mo Evans - This year he looked lost in the triangle. Next year will also understand his role better. He is an animal in the Bonzi mode with a better attitude. Never had a chance to display good D that he is capable of. He will have a breakout year and become an excellant 6th man for the Lakers.

Just some core players I feel will grow and show noticeable improvement next year.

Fatty

PS I don't have a lot of hope for Cookie or Sasha.

King Lakernidas,

i am 100% in agreement with you.

we are all coming up with trade possibilities, as well as potential free agents and draft picks.

however, the lakers front office needs to be sorted out BEFORE any of these things can happen.

as of now, it looks like jimmy buss & mitch kupchak will be making the moves and calls this summer.

so for those who think we will make a deal for legit talent, sign that awesome FA to the MLE, or land a gem in the draft - KEEP DREAMING.

dr. buss first needs to sort out his personnel managers.

because if he keeps the same personnel managers, guess what? we'll have the same personnel!!!!!!! and quite possibly sans kobe bryant!

wow.

c'mon, show some love for Tyrus:

Here! Here! Braveheart is a STUD. lol.

Edwin,

You got be kidding when you said to sign Chauncey Billups for MLE, right? Detroit about to offer him around 12-13M per year deal and you think, he'll leave on the table salary like this and Detroit, where he said he likes to play and just for the sake of the Lakers will take a pay cut? Common man, be real.

Rick:

I agree that the NBA needs to do something to resurrect its big three franchises -– LA, NY, and Boston – especially considering the horrible ratings for the NBA finals.

I believe that solution should be a new exception to the salary cap rules called the BME (Big Market Exception), which would allow LA, NY, Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia to sign 1 free agent each year for any salary regardless of the cap situation. The teams would still have to pay luxury taxes that might result from the signing, but would not have to be under the cap.

An alternative that I like even better would be to reinstate the Territorial Draft rule, where a team would have first rights to sign 1 player each year from colleges or universities in their markets. The Lakers, for example, would then be able to sign Kevin Love from UCLA or O.J. Mayo from USC. What is great about the territorial draft is that it keeps hometown stars in their hometowns.

Of course, this is all fantasy because we know that the Knicks and Celtics will NEVER again be champions. lol.

Tom

I love Turiaf but how many minutes can he really play? Does his heart condition limit his total minutes over a season? So he could play 30 minutes one night and then 10 the next? Also, he seems to have hip problems, which were mentioned several times last year. He seems to be a career backup, and a good one, but you couldn't bank on him being a full time starter playing full time minutes without anticipating a significant decline in production.

Mihm, I have to put in the same category. He's just not built for full time minutes.

Mr Laker Tom

I posted a similar idea 3 weeks ago. I called it the Superstar Excemption.
Each team would have one that could be used every 3-4 years. Still pay the Lux tax, but a big city market team that is stuck in the doldrums could resurect itself if it was willing to pay some fines.

Increasing the MLE could be another solution.

The big markets carry the NBA, thats just a fact. You would think the NBA would recognize that better. These markets don't need to dominate, but they absolutely need a better product. This is not communism. Its not always equal. One key injury to a team could kill a franchise for years. The salary cap went to far in trying to equalize the NBA and needs to be tweaked.

Fatty

"LeBron is about a pre-injury Penny Hardaway level right now. Remember, that's pretty d---n good, but it's not anywhere near GOAT talk yet."

Pre-injury Penny could only get as far as Lebron has, and he needed Shaq to do it. He averaged about 10 fewer points a game, 2-3 fewer rebounds, the same # of assists (even with Shaq), What the heck are you talking about?

And as we've already shown, Kobe sucked in his first (and last) finals appearance. Lebron is at least 5 seasons away from real GOAT talk, but he's using his skills a lot better than Kobe uses his. That's why I think Lakers fans need to be paying attention to him.

The luxury tax already gives the big market teams a significant unofficial advantage; so does the fact that they can afford to pay more for coaching staffs, scouting, etc.

Changing the rules to specifically give the big cities an advantage is a horrible idea. You are taking away the negative reinforcement that comes when someone makes a poor management decision.

Rick Friedman,

"I could go a step further and propose that the NBA revoke the franchise. If the Buss family is no longer committed to a great Laker team, they should be forced to sell."

I cosign. Wouldn't that be great?

FATTY....in the middle of the ground that the game is played on there is a pitch...the pitch is about 23 feet long .....at each end of the pitch there is a batting crease....a batting crease is the area that the batter must stand in while waiting for the bowler to bowl the ball..if the batter misses the ball that is bowled and is out of his crease then the wicket keeper (who stands behind the cricket stumps(3 sticks about 600mm in height)can grab the ball and STUMP the batter ....with the ball in his gloves nock the stumps over...then the batter is out....if the player bowling the ball is a fast bowler ...he runs in at top speed ans bowls the ball at the batter from behind the other batting crease at a speed of about 90 to 100 mph(some bowlers can bowl at around that speed)155kph....if he is a slow bowler or spin bowler the the speed is around 85 to 90 kph...a spin bowler is a bowler who gets the ball to spin of the pitch and change direction (its hard to hit the ball when you dont know where it will land )........TEST..MATCH ..thats the name given to a cricket game played over 5 days.....WICKET....the batter stands in front of the wicket that he is trying to pretect(stop the bowler from knocking the 3 stumps over ) if the bowler bowls the ball and hits the batter on the pads(pads are made of hard foam and the batter puts these on to pretect his leg from getting hit between his ankle and just over his knee cap)......if the batter misses the ball and is standing in line of the stumps and gets hit on the pads he is given out....LBW.....that stands for leg before wicket......SORRY to bore everyone with cricket .....so you have to blame lakers for not keeping us all up to date with the gossip......Kiwi feel free to add if i missed anything.....FATTY....espn should have some games at some point ....on icc cricket world .....cheers

Thirty 2,
Next you'll be trying to tell us that rugby, soccer ("football"), and Australian Rules football are enjoyable to play and watch!!

LEST WE FORGET?!!!

LeBron is ONLY 22 yrs old and in his FOURTH (4th) season in the league.
Where does all this talk about Greatest of All Time come in?!!! Give the guy a break, even LeBron isn't putting that much PRESSURE on himself, just look at his reactions when calls go against him. LeBron seems to have some good advisors, because he is showing to be a class act whether winning or losing.

Let's just hope that LeBron does not put pressure on himself to make DUMB decisions, like a former young protege from the Laker organization who then went out and FORCED himself on a Hotel Clerk even while newly married. A move that ALMOST cost him his Career, marriage and freedom.

OUT!!!!
The truth

EX

Not if your from a big city market. lol

Actually not a bad idea. The small city teams are the beneficiary of the lux tax. They would also have some extra to buy stars.

Ex, I didn't know you were a communist. Whatever happened to free enterprize? The penalty was put there to limit the abuse. If you are the owner of a team that is faultering and the draft lottery screwed you like the Celtics and Memphis, it could get you out of deep spiral. If your product is no good, the fans give up and spend their dollar else where.

FA can not be signed if a team is over the cap. (MLE) Its also not fair to the players who are not getting fair market value. 75% of the teams are limited by the cap and the NBA is fast approaching a cap gridlock.

You would also have to be against the existing exemptions. The MLE, Vet, Birds rights, Injury, and minor that allow teams to play above the cap. Doesn't that give them an unfair advantage? This is just one more that could be used 3-4 years, but will cost a team double and benefit lessor teams. It will not be abused nor taken lightly considering the penalties. but if a team can't generate excitement locally, the measure could be life saving.

You didn't state why it would be horrible. Could you elaborate and help me see where I'm missing something? My whole point is the NBA needs to do something. The status quo is not working. Simply punishing the teams in the top 7-10 markets doesn't bring a resolution to the matter. The NBA has even done something like this recently in letting teams release a player with amnesty. (Grant) They gave the big market teams a boost to help them. More needs to be done.
