One doubts if "Bucks Blog" would have this much material to work with
The hoops universe now has something to distract from the Kobe trade scenarios- KG trade scenarios. While the four team, "This justifies all the time I spend on the Trade Machine instead of watching the kids!" mega deal fell through, apparently the Lakers and T-Wolves are still exploring a deal the old fashioned, two-team way. It's hardly a slam dunk, since there questions as to whether or not the Lakers have the chips to meet Minnesota's needs and whether or not Wolves GM Kevin McHale would sooner parachute with a bed sheet onto the 5 Freeway before sending Garnett to L.A. Then there is the matter of Kobe. ESPN's Ric Bucher reported yesterday that even a deal that nets KG wouldn't change Kobe's "trade me" stance. True or not, it may not matter. Bulls GM John Paxson has said the odds of Kobe heading to Chicago are slim, at least if the Lakers want a prime package in return.

I think that trading Bynum would be a big mistake and may jeopardize the Lakers' future. The kid is not even 20 and has already shown glimpses of his enormous potential.
I would not go further then sending Lamar, Kwame and our draft pick to Minnesota: remember KG is 31, has past his prime and is a free agent next year, so the T-Wolves should be happy to get something in exchange now rather than losing him for nothing in 2008.
Kupchack, Jerry Buss, DO NOT trade Bynum!
Posted by: Francesco | June 26, 2007 at 09:27 AM
Let's all pray that this deal goes through! I love KG and seeing him and Kobe play together is something I've been wanting to see for 3 years now. Let's hope a deal can happen!

Mamba 24,
I'm checking in for roll call, cause you are my man. Other than that the blog these days is not the place to be. Negativity reigns. Yikes!
KG and Kobe will both be Lakers because it's all about making money. The Lakers are the best at it and Kobe right now is the main reason why. At the end of the day it's all about business!
Go Lakers get KG and continue to make that money!
Posted by: Fan of the Mamba | June 26, 2007 at 09:31 AM
The key to making this trade happen is gettting Atlanta, or Memphis involved. Minny is reluctant to give up KG without a high draft pick, and Atlanta, and Memphis both have what we need. I put this through the trade machine and it worked, but I don't know if I like it:
Minny gets:
Odom
Kwame
Zaza Pachulia
#3
Atlanta gets:
Bynum
Marco Jaric
We get:
Garnett
Tyronn Lue
To me the big question is would Atlanta be willing to give up their pick for Bynum, and Jaric. To me I don't think it's a bad deal for them since they only have to give up their #2 pg, a young big man (that will be replaced by Bynum anyway), they get to keep Smith, and Childress, AND they can still get a good pg with the #11 pick.
As far as Minny goes, they get the perfect chips for rebuilding. Cap space, a good young player, an established player, and a high pick. They also get to get rid of one of their bad contracts.
We get to put together what could be one of the greatest duos of all-time, and bring back a fan favorite who can be reliable off the bench. I don't know if it would happen, but I think everybody gets what they want/need.
Posted by: Weave-Man | June 26, 2007 at 09:32 AM
First off, Ric Bucher is a tool; why give him a time on the blog - he's a gossip writer.
Second, the lakers would be stupid not to do everything in their power to get KG - this would include trading Kwame along with Odom and Bynum.
Third, having a class act like KG on board would be the X-factor needed to accrue more talent - who wouldn't want to play for such a stacked team (Bibby, Chauncey, Sprewell etc.).
Fourth, try not to get your hopes up - the Organization is dealing with old Celtics mind you. and the it looks like Ainge just threw in the monkey wrench into the 4-way.
Could there be another fourth team to take the Celtics' place??? Atlanta?

Relax..... Garnett is on the way... Let's enjoy the ride....
I think we are all now just waiting to hear if KOBE has assured KEVIN that he will not asked to be traded. It's coming..
If this happens, all is forgiven, Jerry will again be the greatest sports owner in LA history and Kobe will be the GM of the year.

Francesco,
No need to worry on Bynum. It is hardest to find a pair Kobe-KG, the dream of all Laker fans. Give us KG and we will give away our wives, ooops just j/k honey! We will give all the Bynums that you need ......in the future.
Francesco, be positve we need positive vibes right now, forget the critical analysis of rookies.

Mamba24 (via MT),
i bet it took 4 days to read MT's takes on phil jackson.
can you hook it up with the cliffnotes?
what's the beef with phil jackson?
dude is a head coach, not a magician?
his track record has always shown that he needs legit talent to work his wonders.
i've said it many times, we are asking phil and kobe to cook us a steak dinner - and giving them a pack of 99 cent franks to do it with.
just not gonna happen.
shammond, sasha, smush, vlad, cook, kwame: these guys are bums. straight up bums.
john wooden couldn't make it happen with these clowns.
what is so IRONIC about MT is the connection between kwame brown and phil jackson.
MT preaches the firing of phil jackson, the same coach who gave the thumbs up (after speaking with air jordan) for the beloved kwame brown...huh?
so was giving the ok on kwame a good move by phil?
how about when kwame is slow on rotations or fumbles about 60-70% of the entry passes to him? oh, that is phil's fault too.
WHY DO YOU THINK KOBE IS ASKING FOR BETTER PLAYERS?
he hasn't once asked for a better coach.
a coach who ate his own words and came back to help kobe restore the laker name.
anyhow, those are some of my thoughts.
peace.

Weave:
While I like the idea of getting Atlanta involved (they've got some great young talent) I really question getting Lue back in the trade. Lue had one decent series where he played well and I think a lot of fans just remember that and forget all the other horrible games that he played. When the party was nice, the party was jumpin' (Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo). And everybody havin' a ball (Hah, ho, Yippie Yi Yo), I tell the fellas "start the name callin'" (Yippie Yi Yo), and the girls report to the call. The poor dog show down. Who let the dogs out?
But otherwise, yeah, get Atlanta or Memphis involved.

The only way this deal happens is if Glen Taylor wants to do KG a favor and tells McHale to trade him to the Lakers. If he doesn't, they could get a much better package for KG.
And how does nobody seem to take Kobe seriously with all his "I'm still leaving, even if KG comes" talk? People, the writing is on the wall, Kobe needs to be traded.
I am going to have a hard time rooting for Kobe come this next season. The guy just doesn't want to be with the Lakers and what gets me is how Dr. Buss is basically saying that Kobe and his star power is bigger than the Lakers. Paris Hilton and Britney Spears in the stands means more to him than the quality of character of his players and their ability to work as a team and present a better quality of basketball. It's definitely about the name on the back of the jersey as opposed to the front and it's disheartening.
Do you folks realize that Portland Trailblazer fans look down at the Lakers and say "I'm glad we're not in that mess". THE TRAILBLAZERS!!!!
Take off the purple and gold colored glasses and see this for what it really is, a big, steamy pile of crap and there's one way to turn it all around in a heartbeat. Trade Kobe.
Posted by: Andrew Z | June 26, 2007 at 09:49 AM
KG is coming, I can feel it!!!!!!!
KB/KG that would be fantastic.
Bring Artest as well.
can we also get Billups!? :-)
Get rid of: Kwame, Bynum, Vlad, Cook, Sasha and unfortunately Odom.
Time to start fresh folks. We need a new mentality, new players, new blood, new attitude, etc.
Posted by: gugy | June 26, 2007 at 09:50 AM
Here is another idea, Chicago could be the important piece to replace Boston. Imagine getting JO, I'm sure they can supply more talents to the Minny than what the Celtics could offer. We need Phil Jackson to get on John Paxton and seal the deal.
This is a teamwork no longer Mitch K. job alone, I'm sure Magic, Jerry Buss and Phil Jackson are now on the now on the phones, wheeling and dealing every minute until midnight.
May the force be with them. make it happen and we'll handle our chihuahua problem.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | June 26, 2007 at 09:50 AM
Not gonna lie, I'm gettin' a little excited. Now, I'm a perpetual cynic in everything- to quote, "An optomist sees the glass as half full. A pessimist sees the glass as half empty. A cynic says it matters not- the Milk is sour anyways."
Now, an advantage to being a cynic is that when something good happens, you're all the more happy for it. This KG stuff, I'm steeling myself for the fact that it's probably not gonna happen, but it's nice to be a part of the ride. this thing's got more legs then the Kidd deal.
at the very least, it's some very entertaining stuff.
Posted by: Jeff | June 26, 2007 at 09:51 AM
People, let's not get our hopes up. If it happens, great. But what if it doesn't happen? Or, if it does happen and KB still wants out? Or, if it happens, and KG and KB get out? Who's gonna play the 1?
There are too many issues to address, even if the KG Boom comes about.
On the flip side, McHale would be out of his mind to make a 2-team trade. This is harder than you all are making it sound.
Posted by: Peace | June 26, 2007 at 09:52 AM
Francesco,
I agree. Bynum should stay a Laker. We asked a lot from him last year. He played 82 games last year and put in more minutes than the team desired, because of injuries to Kwame and Mihm.

Generic One,
You can substitute "Kareem Rush" for "Tyron Lue," and "one good playoff game" for "one good playoff series," and it's the same situation. haha
Then again, fans just have a natural inclination to "fondly" remember their own when they're gone. I mean, I'd jump on the chance to bring back J.R. Reid, for eff's sake. haha

"The Lakers also can offer Kwame Brown's $9 million expiring contract, and Ronny Turiaf is a young talent about whom many general managers have inquired"
Is there a way that Phil make Turiaf play more next year or what?Alongside KG & KB he would bring so much energy and passion...
Ronny is the man...You'll see...Just watch Eurobasket in September...
Posted by: pozolozo | June 26, 2007 at 09:57 AM
Andrew z... there's no room in Lakerland or in basketball for your pity party. Fans want to watch an exciting game, which Kobe provides, and we willingly pay the money to watch right along with Paris and Britney, and that's what Buss wants.
The Trailblazers shouldn't be looking at us and saying that...they should be trying to put a news worthy/fan worthy team so they can be a team anyone cares about.
Until then....SHUT IT DUDE!

Its my 21st birthday tomorrow and all i want is KG. make it happen Mitch, make it happen. KG+Kobe=championship in 09. Both these players will make our sorry roster all stars. For a second I was going to agree that having two allstars isnt the key because if you look at denver, iverson and carmelo didnt carry them out of the first round yet kobe and KG are both better then iverson and carmelo. So cmon lakers organization, do what you need to do bring in KG!!!!
GO LAKERS

Garnett was always meant to be a Laker... It has to happen, it will happen!!
bd
Posted by: bd | June 26, 2007 at 10:01 AM
EastCoastJessie,
Kobe will still ask to be traded, even if KG is here. The dude has checked out permanently. Mentally and emotionally he is no longer a Laker. Why keep him here?
I say move him, bring in some young talent, clear some cap space, give Brian Shaw the reigns to develop the young guys and in a year or two we'll be right where we are now, a year or two after that we'll be better, and a year after that we'll be contenders.
The key is to get Kobe to waive his no-trade clause. Period.
Posted by: Andrew Z | June 26, 2007 at 10:03 AM
EastCoast,
So you're more about a one man show, one and out in the playoffs, and 40 or so wins a year than a better basketball team?
Glad to see where you stand. You must be a true basketball fan.
Maybe you should go to the Times front page, Paris got let out today, there's probably a blog somewhere talking about it.

AK-
HAHA! great one. Personally, I miss all the "great white hype" players we had-
You know, great players such as....
Travis Knight
Mark Madsen
Greg Foster
Mike Penberthy
and, of course,
SLAVA!
Come on, which of those WOULDN'T you want back on the lakers?
Posted by: Jeff | June 26, 2007 at 10:06 AM
This will definitely boost ratings in the league. Can you imagine tv ratings with the KG/KB Lakers deep in the playoffs next year?
When do the finals start this year?
Posted by: EastCoastJessie | June 26, 2007 at 10:06 AM
KG, KG, KG, KG, KG
We need the Kid. Here's hoping The Kidd can placate Kobe but even if not The Kidd plus a fity cents on the dollar we would get from a Kobe trade would make the O7/08 squad better than last year's.
If this dosen't work what about some possible trade in to fooling Seattle to take Kobe for KD? I would love to see Kobe come "home" and get tourched by KD infront of Jack. That would be seet revenge for the nerve of Kobe to ask to be traded from the purple and gold. Has any other player ever asked for such?
Even if so, if Kobe will play with KG for the lake show all will be forgiven. Ric Bucher can eat a fat one. I can't see Kobe wanting to sit out an etire year when KG is playing and winning for the purple and gold. Which tool boy Ric said would happen even if the purple people eaters were able to KG.

How's this for an optimist ? We do the trade, we lose to a Suns or Spurs in the first round and KG leaves next year and kobe demands a trade. Then we are left with turiaf, farmar, and scubs. 2017 plan here we come.

Posted by: CBuck | June 26, 2007 at 10:09 AM
Andrew Z,
The fact that you expect Kobe to have undying loyalty to the Lakers is unrealistic and selfish of you. People forget that athletes have a limited amount of time to do what they do best. And in that limited amount of time want to maximize their earnings and success. Anyone that's mad at Kobe for wanting to be traded after he dragged the Lakers to the playoffs the last two seasons is living in a dream world, especially considering that they've never been serious about adding talent until AFTER Kobe made a trade demand.
I didn't agree with everything he's done, like his media blitz about a month ago, but the man wants to win. And Jerry Buss wants to sell $2600 tickets, and he's proved it by not attempting to build a serious title contender around one of the top 3 players in the league.
Posted by: Xodus | June 26, 2007 at 10:09 AM
Andrew Z... Kobe nor his agent has publicly come out and said that he will still want to be traded if KG comes along. This is all media speculation...probably started by our good OLD friend Plaschke.
All Kobe's ever wanted is to have great players alonside him to propel this team to a level where the Lakers are used to. The fans want it, Kobe wants it, and the entire team wants it. Buss knows that and he's doing everything he can to make it happen.
Ultimately, this deal benefits the Wolves in many ways but most importantly it gives them some quality young players (perfect for rebuilding) in Odom (which I must say I'm sad about) and Bynum who will be a great center in this league. This is definitely a business deal for the Wolves but it is a make or break deal for the Lakers.
If it doesn't happen, I support Kobe wanting to be traded AGAIN!
Posted by: EastCoastJessie | June 26, 2007 at 10:11 AM
KOBE WILL STAY IF KG IS A LAKERS!
Kobe has no leverage if he leaves. Chicago doesn't want him.
Kobe wants to win, So KG will give that opportunity to him.
Lakers FO will come to Kobe and settle everything. That's why they are after KG in the first place. Kobe got his wishes.
KOBE WILL STAY!
Stop this negativity. KG news is something most of us being dreaming since Shaq left. The dream is about to become reality.

This is what all the Laker Fans from Santa Monica to Las Vegas, from SF to San Diego, the two stars will join in one. AK:
"You can substitute "Kareem Rush" for "Tyron Lue," and "one good playoff game" for "one good playoff series," and it's the same situation. haha"
Oh, yes. That's another name that comes up often who people want to bring back. Pargo seems to be one that pops up from time to time. Remember when Pargo and Rush were on the team at the same time? Uuuugggggghhh. It was pathetic watching them try to bring the ball up the court. There were some games where almost every single time the ball would bounce off one of their shoes or it'd get stolen or they'd trip and lose it out of bounds. It was always something.
ECJessie:
"The Trailblazers shouldn't be looking at us and saying that...they should be trying to put a news worthy/fan worthy team so they can be a team anyone cares about."
In the 24 hours following the draft lottery, Portland sold 3,500 new season subscriptions and packages.

Andrew Z...
It's not about a one man show. It's about watching a historic team with the best player in the world provide a quality and exciting game. The Lakers would have won many more games last year had it not been for so many injuries.
Jerry Buss is about the money. If he doesn't have Kobe, he doesn't have the fans, the ratings, or the money to support this team.
Posted by: EastCoastJessie | June 26, 2007 at 10:15 AM
I can't believe that the world creates so many people who are doom and gloom. To think that the Lakers have a shot at KG and yet, you get these doom and gloom characters and can only think of bad things. It's from A-Z on all the things wrong and why it won't work. And you wonder why people can't take the media anymore. I guess people just thrive in the doom and gloom atmosphere. Enjoy your world and I will continue on hoping and having faith the Lakers work something out. Lakers have a shot at a combo of KG and KOBE and yet I will see hundred post on why it will never work and why we are screwed till we die. I just love the DOOM and GLOOM people.

Yeah the writing is on the wall, alright. If no one else has figured this out yet. If we make the KG trade ( and it really feels like it's gonna happen), then everything Kobe has done up to this point- WORKED. Flat out worked. It is a ballsy, risky (image wise) move, but it worked. This is when your co-worker goes "Gimme a raise or I quit" and gets it. Big Kobe fan, no problems admitting it, I really wish he didn't speak to Ric Bucher as much as he does, but hey you cant choose your allies. As fas as the video out on him. WHO HERE REALLY BELIEVED THAT KOBE WAS NOT CAPABLE OF BEING HONEST AND EXPLICIT when he believes THE CAMERAS ARE OFF. Everybody felt the same way, I did, we all did. Mitch is either a puppet or a bum. Bynum is a good kid, but isn't interested in winning yet, so you know Kobe wants to surround himself with people WHO WANT RINGS. JKidd, Artest, KG all have one thing in common- they want to win. I cant blame Kobe for that. Once again Kobe can be compared to MJ, they both love to gamble. Im out to pre order my KG jersey, lata folks.
