Crack 'er open
In news that will come as a surprise to nobody, Lamar Odom will undergo surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder. Depending on the damage, the recovery time could be in the neighborhood of four months. Hopefully less. The good news is that'll give him plenty of time to have knee surgery, too. There are discounts if you buy in bulk. It's also no surprise to see many of Phil Jackson's assistant coaches up for head gigs around the league. There's a ton of experience on that staff, and the three guys mentioned- Brian Shaw, Kurt Rambis, and Jim Cleamons- are all well respected.

Generic 1,
It's an absolute given that Horry will get suspended one game. Between the body check and the forearm he threw at Bell, no-brainer result. I'd buy a farm, then bet it.

Here's the latest -
May 15, 2007 -- One of Jermaine O'Neal's buddies confirmed the Pacers' big man wants to be shipped to the Knicks to play for Isiah Thomas.

AK: Okay... yeah, once you take into consideration the elbow to Bell that's a pretty good bet. If it had just been the incident with Nash, it would have been up in the air.
Posted by: generic_one | May 15, 2007 at 10:22 AM
See, Suns fans keep coming back because you all talk more about them than the Lakers! You're obsessed with us. We own you!
I don't care who gets suspended, bring it on. That's the difference with Suns and Lakers fans: you dwell on refs, suspensions, why your star player can't get a hug - we just worry about playing.
Poor LA - another summer having to root for (against) better teams.
Posted by: suns_land | May 15, 2007 at 10:28 AM
Horry one game for forearm throw
Raja Bell one game for swing at Horry (perhaps two games because of his history)
Amare one game for leaving the bench
Diaw one game for leaving the bench
This is how the league has ruled in the past. These Phoenix players meeting with owner Colangelo left the meeting discouraged.
This is the take here in Flagstaff. The feeling is Colangelo worked a miracle with the league last year in only one game with Raja, and maybe he could do it again with his pull.

Horry is going to be suspended for one game at least because of the foul on nash, throwing the elbow and the timing of it. Clearly intentional and uncalled for when the game was over.
I have no clue how anyone would think that was a ok play by Horry, Laker fan or not, Nash hit his head on the scorers table and could have been seriously hurt. Bush league totally.
I agree the referees can do a better job but I dont see any team getting biased calls, its equally bad for both teams.
Posted by: Laker Lover | May 15, 2007 at 10:33 AM
Generic,
Nah, Horry would have gotten the suspension either way. The forearm is just icing on the cake. You can't body check a guy out of bounds like that. It was ridiculous. I was watching the game with my girlfriend, who's a big Spurs fan and a very poor sport with absolutely no ability to be objective. And even she was appalled.
Aside from basically guaranteeing himself a suspension, it was really stupid of Horry because he set the Suns up to take two freebies and maintain possession. Even though Nash uncharacteristically missed a couple down the stretch, that basically put the game outta reach for SA. Huge mental freeze by Horry, who's normally much smarter than that.

So is that why there's a 15 page thread (after just ONE DAY) on the ASFN?
http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=90679
Seems like there's an awful lot of suspension dewlling going on there. Oh, and there's already a 07/08 Lakers thread:

Wow... talk about obsessing. We're just talking about a circumstance that came up in a playoff game. That's all dude.

AK: Alright, alright. Maybe I'm just biased cause it's Big Shot Rob. He's incapable of doing evil!
Posted by: generic_one | May 15, 2007 at 10:53 AM
AK - WHY are you and some of the others so sure Horry deserves a suspension??
Honestly it was no harder than many a moving screen I've seen. And Nash took WAY LESS of a hit on it than he did absorbing Duncan's charge earlier.
A bad foul sure, but there have been a lot worse in this series without suspensions.
Posted by: Jay Jay | May 15, 2007 at 10:58 AM
Good luck Lamar.
Good luck David Stern pretending you're neutral after you (probably) suspend Horry but (very likely) buy the Suns' lies about why Stoudemire came out of the bench area to fight.

Jay Jay,
First of all, it was harder than a moving screen. But even if it weren't, that's completely irrelevant, because this wasn't a moving screen, which is a foul, but at least an acceptable part of the game. What Horry did was just plain rough house. Remember, context matters as much and probably more than the actual impact of the blow. The context makes this completely unnacceptable.
I love Robert Horry, but dude, a joke's a joke. Can you honestly tell me if he did that to a Laker, you'd be okay with it?

Depends on which Laker it was! Smush? I'd be fine with it.
I'm kidding of course... OR AM I?

when was shaq asked on tnt about who he thought was the myp?

So now Jalen Rose is claiming that if the league suspends Amare and Diaw for leaving the bench, then they should also suspend Tim Duncan for allegedly leaving the the bench in the second quarter after Elson appeared to be undercut by a Suns player.

I’d much rather have Corey Brewer, but I would settle for Ron Artest
As long as they still tried to get Charlie Bell with the Mid Level Exception.
a recap of my trade scenario:
most desirable trade scenario
trade Zaza Pachulia and the eleventh pick of the draft for bynum, radman, and both second rounders (atlanta gets a potential all star and a pretty good shooter, who can occasionally rebound well)
then trade the 19th, 11th pick, and sasha as a parting gift to whoever drafts cory brewer (depth is always good)
sign either charllie bell or morris peterson to the MLE
a summer acquiring brewer, pauchulia, and either bell or peterson has to be a successful one!
small line up
bell/ jordan farmar/ shammond williams
bryant/ maurice evans
corey brewer/ luke walton
lamar/ ronny
pachulia/ kwame/ chris mimh
or
big line up
corey brewer/ bell/ jordan farmar/ shammond williams
bryant/ maurice evans
lamar/ corey brewer/ luke walton
pachulia/ ronny turiaf
kwame/ chris mimh
pretty good! don’t know if that’s very probable, however!

How can Shaq comment about Kobe being the mvp? How many games did he actually watch Kobe play? Its a silly question.
Posted by: Laker Lover | May 15, 2007 at 11:22 AM
Good luck to Lamar. I love this guys heart and his game. I am dying to see his potential realized on a daily basis. If he can have a season like he started and finished with and we get a decent pg, we will be in the big show for sure.

Tha Kobe Show,
During the Nets and Cavs timeout with about 40 seconds left to go, TNT made an announcment that they would broadcast the Nets and Cavs if it went to over time, while the Suns and Spurs would be temporarily shown on TBS. I turned to TBS and Shaq was there talking to Earnie. Shaq then said he would vote Kobe for MVP.

Jay Jay: See, that's exactly the point I was making about some people here being hypcritical. The guy gets hip-checked out of bound, with an elbow thrown in, and you and a couple of other people are trying to argue it doesn't deserve a suspension? That's ridiculous.
But if it had been a Laker that had been done to, you'd like this guy thrown out of the league. I'm saying, either way, it's a dirty play, guy has to be suspended for it.
I just don't like dirty play, or dirty players. I think Eddie Guerrero's motto, "Cheat to Win" should be taken satirically, not as a mantra for success.
On another topic, I've seen a lot of trade scenarios involving Kwame here. Are that many people ready to ship him out? If we can get something better for him (and I don't think that would take much), count me in.

Generic_One,
"Edwin: I don't really see Artest being traded to the Nuggs for K-Mart. Kenyon's got a really huge contract"
That's the latest rumor was taken from those people in the know like Peter Vecsey of New YorK Post. Here is what he said:
"Those in the know disclose the Kings and Nuggets have had serious dialogue regarding Ron Artest. Clearly, Kenyon Martin would have to be included in any such exchange package." - Peter Vecsey, NY Post
Apparently, these sports columnists have longer ears than us, they've a bug placed in every team. Well, hopefully our F/O office are also in the know or else the Lakers are always in trouble at trading time. Did you remember in '05 when Lakers could not make any kind of trade? well other teams just applied a pick and roll strategy and Mitch has no answer for it our team caught napping.

Michael A:
"On another topic, I've seen a lot of trade scenarios involving Kwame here. Are that many people ready to ship him out?"
The reason that his name is coming up so often is because he's really the biggest chip that we have oustide of Kobe and Lamar. He's got an expiring contract of $9 million which is going to look pretty good to any team attempting to free up cap space. A lot of people would like to keep Lamar as a third option instead of trading him for KG or JO, so Kwame is the biggest bait we have as long as we package him with draft picks, Bynum, filler or a combination.
Posted by: generic_one | May 15, 2007 at 12:07 PM
Edwin: I'm pretty much skeptical of anything Vecsey says. If I read the article correctly, he's speculating that K-Mart would have to be involved because of contract issues, but from what it seems like, Camby is the odd man out so there may be some sort of sign and trade. I think that Vecsey was just throwing that name out there because he may have heard rumors about the Nuggs being interested.
Posted by: generic_one | May 15, 2007 at 12:48 PM
Don't pay much attention to Vescey. It looks like he doesn't write his own column anymore and whoever is writing his column grabs wild rumors from fan blog sites and puts them in.

Not much in this article, but it sounds like the surgery on LO went ok and he should be good for the season. 10 days and a wake up for rehab!
Good Luck Lamar!

Why are we talking about Shaq and Kobe and whos fault it was that one had to stay and one had to go... We have a task at hand and that is to make sure the Laker organization is fully aware that we want a contender for next year, and that means we need to have at least 2 or 3 differnent key players on this lineup.... BUSS GET IT DONT
