Crack 'er open
In news that will come as a surprise to nobody, Lamar Odom will undergo surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder. Depending on the damage, the recovery time could be in the neighborhood of four months. Hopefully less. The good news is that'll give him plenty of time to have knee surgery, too. There are discounts if you buy in bulk. It's also no surprise to see many of Phil Jackson's assistant coaches up for head gigs around the league. There's a ton of experience on that staff, and the three guys mentioned- Brian Shaw, Kurt Rambis, and Jim Cleamons- are all well respected.

Hah! All you dopes can zip it on your basketball analysis. "San Antonio has them playing the way they want."

Our man Horry finally did something a lot of Lakers fans were wishing for a long time. He didn't even push Nash that hard and was actually moving his arm away from him (although, he did fouled him hard intentionally). yet, Nash falls on the ground with his arms spread out like he was knocked out unconsciously. What an actor!
Hopefully, Amare gets suspended, he clearly left the bench and rushed on the court.

Hope the surgery goes well and Odom will be back healthy soon.

Good Luck Odom.
Jim Buss's interview is a must listen to any Laker fan. Straight from the horses mouth. Everybody else is just talk.

Too bad Horry didn't knock that flopper Nash down hard enough. Horry didn't deserve the ejection.
Mike D'antonia, Bell and Amare, if he did rushed to the court, should be punished hard too.

That's why people don't trust NBA anymore.
They handled this game to Phoenix.
It was clear, so clear that look what happen.
Golden State was clearly frustrated and they fould hard.
The same here.
When refrees doesn't call fairly, players feel frustrated.
Posted by: jorema | May 14, 2007 at 09:54 PM
Typical from Lakers players.
They go to surgery to avoid being traded.
Mitch and Jim Buss are so ingenuous that they don't see the little game of Kwame, Lamar and Walton.
I repeat, injury to avoid being traded.

Unfortunately for you I am not KL Beast. And who are you to say that Im taking your name? When did you start using that screen name? Ask the person here who started the 55-win bandwagon. I was a member of that. And maybe he'll tell you when I first logged on with that screen name. But if I am to tell you now, it wouldn't be accurate cos I don't remember. But just a guess, 1 1/2 years now.
What's wrong with my comments? Ridiculous? Have you been reading my comments? Did you understand what I was saying? I suggest you read it again before you make your judgment. What? Did you get butt hurt about what I said about Kobe? That he's been selfish since he was a rookie? Oh come on. You know he is. More than half of the NBA world can't deny it. This year he showed some signs of patience. Passing it to his teammates. Shot per game went down just a little too. It was this year he did that. How about the years before that? Don't make this year's Kobe be such a big thing to sports. It's only been 1 year. Patience? He's had 3 years of consecutive losses and already he's doing the "Kevin Garnett" thing. 3 years? Can you please compare that to all the years KG has suffered losing? Now THAT is what I call PATIENCE. Is Kobe a team player? The person who wants to trade the whole team except him to get someone he wants? Remember Chucky Atkins calling him the "Lakers GM"? I can go on forever about this Kobe dude. Frankly, im getting sick and tired of what he's doing to the franchise and I say if he continues to doing what he does, TRADE him now. Trade him for an all star that understands the definition of the word SACRIFICE. Or is that the topic that's been bugging you? If it is, then you don't know anything about the Lakers organization. You probably think that their tradition is about glitz and glamour and "showtime". Just like the other turists visiting the Laker games. Now before you say something about that, please look at all the ones that have retired jerseys hanging on the rafters. All those guys up there are hardworking blue collar players. Do you remember anyone there making demands of trades? Do you know anyone there being patient for 3 years? 3 years look like a big number to you. But for these guys, 3 years is just nothing but a number.
Now if you think I have disrespected you in any kind, then I apologize. Never intended to disrespect you or anyone else here who were butt hurt about my comments. It was just my opinion.

Jimmy Buss,
"Phil Jackson's assistant coaches up for head coach jobs around the league."
What does that tell you?
You Should have more respect for Phil Jackson.
Except being a spoiled rich kid, born with silver spoon in your mouth, you are nothing and have done nothing for this franchise. Do some good and earn creditability before opening your big mouth..........

I understand that you may not want to name laker players in your trades but who our the names you would go after and we can fill in the names and salries ourselves.

The league hates on Kobe so bad. If Kobe would have been the one comming off the bench like Amare did, they would definitely suspend him for at least one game. I wouldn't be suprised if Amare gets off easy.
Mad props go out Big Shot Rob for taking two of the Suns out on one play. First Nash got the body check and then Big Shot Rob smashed "The Butcher Bell". The funniest part was after both of the Suns got smashed, Horry calmed down, but then little Nash tried to get all crazy with Rob and everybody was just looking at him like "chill you little Canadian, the fights over".
Posted by: Nate T. | May 14, 2007 at 10:39 PM
Shaq said he would have voted Kobe for MVP this year on TNT! Also, I Iove Robert Horry for an additonal two more reasons 1.) Nails Nash to the scoretable like a annoying fly 2.) Elbows Raja in the head. Let's go Spurs.
Posted by: fkillah | May 14, 2007 at 10:43 PM
NATE -
"everybody was just looking at him like "chill you little Canadian, the fights over"."
Haha, I was saying the same thing. A tad bit late at getting up and he totally flung his arms up when he got hit, as if horry lifted him and then body smacked him back down (i wish)
Posted by: bobie | May 14, 2007 at 10:52 PM
The refs gave that game to the suns. Amare should be suspended. Nash and Bell get away with a lot of things.
Robert is my hero, Raja was trying to be all macho and Rob put a stop to it. Stupid Raja Bell, I really dislike that guy not just because of what he did to Kobe, but because he flops all the time, he elbows players and gets away with it, and because he thinks he's tough and a great player, and he's not.
If he was he wouldn't flop all the time, he and all the suns, including D'antoni are cry babies.
Oh and BTW, the Cavs will in fact make the nba finals, it's lebron's time, last year it was wade this year is lebron. I'll bet on it.
Posted by: lakofan | May 14, 2007 at 10:57 PM
Oh, did you hear what that little punk Steve Nash said during the postgame interview? He said he was working on the guns and could have landed a couple of body shots to Horry. B*^@# Please! The leauge needs to suspend him because of his dumb statements (joke or not) and for the fact that he sprang up to his feet and wanted to fight Horry.
Posted by: fkillah | May 14, 2007 at 10:57 PM
Shaq said he would have voted for Kobe for MVP? Maybe hes lobbying to get back to L.A. Afterall his movie career hasnt been the same since he left. Hey I would give up Kwame and Vlade for him might even throw in Sasha.

Baywood,
About Jim Buss: "Straight from the horses mouth. Everybody else is just talk."
Jim Buss learned talk after training horses. Hi-ho Hi-Ho Silver Away........
This year is Horry's last contract year got to show some character to be retained. The only problem, he might have played his last game as Spurs. Are you all aware that Horry really despised the Phoenix Suns? The Lakers got him out of Phoenix after throwing the towel to Danny Ainge.
So Horry found a new title, not yet ready to retire, this time he took the responsibility as Enforcer.

Isn't it strange that the suns are always involved in problems with teams and the nba and the media usually say is the other teams fault?
The suns are complaining and having the same problems they said they had with the Lakers, but now with the spurs.
Is not that the spurs are dirty, is that the suns are the dirty team, and the NBA lets them get away with it.
Nash is always pushing people as a matter of fact all of them do the same thing and the NBA does nothing about it. They should because it seems that every team in the nba that plays the suns are labeled dirty by the suns, but none of the other teams have the same problems, so maybe the suns are the dirty team.
Posted by: lakofan | May 14, 2007 at 11:35 PM
I love the fact that Nash's super flop just cost him Amare and maybe Diao in game 5. If Nash wouldn't have flailed like a little girl, his team probably wouldn't have reacted like they did.
I still would have liked to see Big Shot Rob smash "The Butcher Bell" even if "The Butcher" wouldn't have stepped up to him.

All this talk about Kobe; Kobe is selfish or not selfish, passing the ball or not passing the ball. Kobe is patient or not patient……..
Kobe is Kobe; a scoring machine, when he gets the ball he is supposed to score. Kobe is not a facilitator and he’ll never be. Kobe is not Nash nor he’s Jordan and he’s somewhat arrogant. But how would you behave if you would be making $18-Mil a year with 3 NBA titles and that at the age of 28.
The question is; whom should he pass the ball to? Kwame or Bynum? Smush or Radman? What would you do with a mediocre supporting cast?
Honestly, I care less if Kobe passes or not, all I want is to be entertained and I want excitement and nobody excite me like Kobe and the way he plays.
We all are entitled to our own opinion and rightly so. But let us not bash each other over something that we have little or no control of. Kobe is driving his Bentley and enjoying his millions laughing at us fighting over “why isn’t he passing…”
Kobe will have his championship/s with or without Lakers. We should just enjoy while he is in purple and gold jersey. Somebody (sorry I don’t remember who) at this board said: “All those Kobe haters would call him a traitor if leaves the Lakers” and that is nothing but the truth.

WOW. did somebody say "trade kobe?"
please, name ONE single player you could trade him straight up for and get back equal value.
ONE.
Lebron has a suspect jumper and still has cold feet in the fourth quarter. The cavs are lucky they're in the east.
Nobody else puts up those kinds of numbers night in, night out with so little help?. NOBODY.
does 81 ring a bell??? 62 in 3 quarters against the Mavs??? if we lived in an imaginary world with no television, radio, or newspaper; and i told this to people, they would either think i was talking about someone in the 60's, or i was making it up.
once you start talking pieces. there are maybe six players in the NBA you could even packaged around. Duncan, Stoudmire, Lebron, Wade, McGrady, Yao. and i'm sure plenty of pleople would dump on half of those ideas.
if nobody's noticed. there are trends that would lead me to believe: certain star players who have won rings in the past have greater odds of winning them in the future. and it just may be because those players are just slightly better than everyone else at that period in time.
good examples:
1. Michael Jordan winning 6, 3 in a row. taking 2 years off, then winning 3 straight again...
2. Shaquille O'Neal having been there once in Orlando. Winning 3 with Phil (*a good footnote to example one), and then pulling a 4th off in Miami.
3. Tim Duncan in 1999, then 2003, then 2005. and he's not looking too shabby right now either. (* plus he has Big Shot Bob as a lucky rabbit's foot)
4. Magic Johnson went to the Finals 9 times in twelve years winning 5 of them. think about that?!?! finals 9/12 years, winning 5/9. that's second only to Jordan's 6 in 8 in the modern era. and i'm sure some people would disagree with that.
Honorable mentions to Dennis Rodman winning 5 with 3 different teams and Robert Horry winning 6 on 3 teams.
KOBE MAY JUST BE ONE OF THOSE TYPES OF PLAYERS. (and i don't mean an honorable mention.)
say trade kobe. i say you're a sucker. you either don't understand basketball, or you hate him for something other than his skillset.

iS IT WRONG TO HOPE AMARE GETS SUSPENDED?

He should be suspended like those Heat/Knicks series.

BLACKMAMBA 24, ” Unfortunately for you I am not KL Beast”
Well since you seem to want a reply Mr. BlackMamba24 let me break it down for you.
I had assumed that you were KL Beast since the only person who responded to your post was the Beast.
Second it’s not so much taking “my name” but just the fact that you don’t appear on the Blog until I have been
off of it for several days and some people may have the mistaken opinion that your opinions are actually coming from me.
And isn’t it amazing that I also would say it’s been about 1 and a half years since I’ve been using this screen name,
some coincidence huh? As for your comments being ridiculous maybe I was a little strong there and I apologize, but
that was my opinion at the time so be it, the same as your comments are your opinion of a situation. You talk about
Laker tradition and my not knowing it, well my friend I’ve followed the Lakers closely since 1962 and I’m well aware
of the tradition. So don’t give me this crap about no other Laker stars making demands, be for real jack.
MAGIC JOHNSON demanded and got his coach fired. I believe his number hangs in the rafters.
KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR demanded and got a trade from Milwaukee to the Lakers, his number also is in the rafters..
SHAQ demanded and got a trade from Orlando to the Lakers, so don’t give me this no other Laker
stars made demands or to be patient crap. If the above Laker stars had not made their demands
we would now be minus 8 of our 14 championships following your logic. Fans pay good money
and they want a good product for their dollar. If you want to pay your money and be given inferior crap
then do it! But don’t ask me or the rest of us to be patient with our money. Now as to KG’s suffering
who gives a F*ck. If he wants to play for the Lakers that’s cool, if he wants to play martyr then let the fool suffer.
All he has to do to make the pain stop is opt out or demand a trade. Dozens of others have done it so he can to.
And don’t give me this it’s s so noble crap to sit back year after year and watch your best years go to waste.
That organization obviously doesn’t give a F*ck about KG or they would have resigned Sam-I-AM and Spree.
Since you love patience so much I hope when the next version of what ever type of equipment you use at
your place of employment comes out, that everyone gets the updated version but you. Then my friend you
can sit back and show your loyalty and PATIENCE to your employer as all your colleges increase their skill
sets and marketability while you show this so called loyalty and patience to your employer. Then when your
job gets outsourced you can show this PATIENCE as you stand in the un-employment line. You say don’t make
Kobe this year big thing in sports. WHY THE HELL NOT. Isn’t that what sports is about the next big thing.
To hear sportswriters tell it, this two minute wonder Steve Nash is the greatest point guard in the history
of sports and nobody has ever thrown a behind the back or no look pass. They seem to forget people like
Pistol Pete, Magic, Isaiah, Bob Cousy and J Kidd. Etc. So if this 2-minute wonder can be the next big thing,
then so to can Kobe. And finally, since you like the Mamba name so much keep it. I officially change my
screen name to BLACKPANTHER24. Are we happy now BlackMamba24?
Posted by: Mamba24 | May 15, 2007 at 06:51 AM
What is f..g sun fan still doing here? How pathetic they are to actually coming to our forum after series ended sometime ego. Those people just pitiful..
Nash needs to consider the second career in Hollywood. After Rob gave him a hard foul he went down like he was shot right in the head. What an actor, I was watching this replay 5 times and it was what it was, just a hard foul by seasoned pro and 6 times champion like Robert Horry. I babies SUNs can not handle it, they better play somewhere else.
Posted by: LAL_Fan | May 15, 2007 at 07:22 AM
never, don't count on Amare and/or Diaw gets suspended. As Korey pointed out, Stern loves the Suns too much.
Posted by: gdchild | May 15, 2007 at 07:53 AM
Man, some of you guys are just ridiculous. If Kobe had been smacked like that, you'd be crying for all the world to hear.
It was dirty play, no matter who it was on, or who did it. Some of y'all are hypocrites, straight up. Horry deserves a suspension, end of story. I'm hoping two games.
Posted by: Michael A | May 15, 2007 at 08:28 AM
AK/BK,
I was talking with a friend the other night about possible "dream" trades for the Lakers and one of them was Pau Gasol. His salary isn't that high and given that they get a Kevin Durant during the draft, they could trade us Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown and Andrew Bynum.
What do you guys think? I mean, that way, we get to keep Lamar Odom (the almost triple double king). :)
Hopefully you guys get this... I might just repost it 'cause it's so low on the comment list. If you guys think it's good, would there be any way for you to make contact with Jim/Jerry Buss or Mitch Kuchpak?
Thanks.
Posted by: Bryan | May 15, 2007 at 08:29 AM
I hope Lamar's surgery works out. Guy played with a lot of heart this year, I've got nothing but respect for that.
Posted by: Michael A | May 15, 2007 at 08:39 AM
Michael A,
I agree with you it was a dirty play but that's playoff basketball, don't expect a free pass that Nash does to all guards.
In the same level, Amare and Boris Diaw should be suspended for leaving their post. NBA has to follow the rules. Now to balance the penalties, Bowen has to be suspended for kicking amare in the previous game.
With all the suspensions, it will water down the next games which may not be good for the ratings. That's the problem when you mixed rules, ratings and passion for the game, there's a conflict that affects interest and patronage.
Latest on Ronron will be traded to the Nuggets for K-Mart. JO prefers to be with his friend Isiah at Knicks....hmmn don't hear anything about the Lakers except from bloggers.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | May 15, 2007 at 08:52 AM
Amare is NOT going to get suspended.. there is no way they will let that happen in a 2-2 series....
That being said.. if that was Kobe and we were down 3 games to 1, Kobe would still be suspended for being... well Kobe.
As much as I hate how suspensions are so biasedly given, Kobe did much of that hate onto himself. Does he deserve it? Definitely not. But a man doesn't just get a bad rep and get hated on for no reason. I LOVE KOBE and LOVE his game. It is not just that he is the best player in the league that people hate on him because of jealousy. He has done things over the years that make people question his intentions and stuff.
Kobe SHOULD NOT have gotten suspeded over those previous incidents and shows how biased the NBA office is. However, I have to truthfully admit that Amare shouldn't either. If Horry gets suspended then Bell should too because he got into that mess by stepping up to an ex-Laker.
Anyways, thats my two cents. The NBA really needs to have stop getting crazy and stop thinking that they are a monarchy that cannot be toppled. They might be holding it down now but if they keep this unfair ruling going on.. we might soon see NBA players going to the ABA... sike... the money's just too good..... maybe Mark Cuban can start a league.. haha....
GO LAKERS 2006-2007!!!
until then... GO anyone playing the Suns!!!
Posted by: David Whang | May 15, 2007 at 08:56 AM
Actually as I think about "the foul" this morning, I realize that it was about the same force as a typical "moving screen" violation. And if my memory serves, there were at least a couple of those earlier in the game and no one got thrown out. The only difference is that instead of Nash hitting the floor, it was close to the sideline so he hit the scorer's table which made it look more dramatic. Truth is when he took the charge from Duncan earlier he actually got hit with with way more force.
So if Shaq is the Big Dominator, can we call Nash the little faker?
Posted by: Jay Jay | May 15, 2007 at 08:58 AM
I also saw Barboza floor Parker on a hard body foul, where he obviously didn't go for the ball. Now why couldn't one of our beloved Lakers floor Barbosa the same way?
Posted by: troy | May 15, 2007 at 09:00 AM
Oh, and as far as trades go.....
KG - YES!!!!
JO - Yes
Gasol - Ok
Artest - No No No No
The guy (Artest) has been a cancer on both teams and has not helped either of them win. Kobe is our sparkplug, Rony is our cheerleader, we need a type B personality - with really strong skills. Which is the reason for my evaluations above.
Posted by: Jay Jay | May 15, 2007 at 09:03 AM
Bryan,
I'm trying to hold off on any formal "trade posts" until we get closer to the date when GM's can actually start making trades (otherwise, I'll inevitibly end up re-writing the same post again, you know what I mean).
But to quickly address your question, Memphis would have to be VERY interested in Bynum to make that trade. From what I gather, most folks think Greg Oden will end up better than Bynum, so if they can possibly just draft Oden (since they're likely to end up with the first pick). Of course, if they get the #2 (and take Durant), that could change everything. Kwame's expiring contract may be tempting, but they can snag one of those from other teams, too.
AK

Jack in H-Wood: I can't think of one single player I would trade for Kobe, but if you asked for a multi-player trade, I can think of two: Hinrich + Deng + Gordon or Miller + Igoudala + Korver.
Michael A: Regardless of whether or not it was dirty, Horry definitely doesn't deserve a suspension. Since he was assessed a flagrant 2 and thrown out, I could see him not getting suspended at all since he was booted from the game. At the most it would be one game since worse fouls have only warranted that long of a suspension.
Edwin: I don't really see Artest being traded to the Nuggs for K-Mart. Kenyon's got a really huge contract and has been plagued by injury; not necessarily what the Kings would be looking to get in return. At least Kwame would be expiring if the experiment failed.
Jay Jay: As I've mentioned before, I think I prefer the Gasol trade the best mainly because it would allow us to retain Lamar Odom. LO + Kobe + Gasol would be a much better lineup than just Kobe + KG or Kobe + JO.

No worries guys,
The Suns will not be the champions. No matter what the NBA will do to help them move forward. KARMA folks. That's what will get them.
Yes, that was a bad call from Horry, but I would not be surprise if the Suns were responsible for it.
Amare needs to be suspended with the NBA has any regards fro it's rules. We will find out soon.

listening to Dirk in his live press conference after accepting his MVP, WOW Dirk will never win a championship.
To say that a lot of great players have not won a championship in their careers and that he'll be able to live without winning one if it came to that, that's just WOW.
Mark Cuban's face and David Stern's face said it all, I think Mark just realize he won't win a championship with Dirk as the main guy. David Stern was like maybe thinking, 'is this guy for real, the MVP of the league? WOW'
I think Dirk is a nice guy, but he doesn't have that desire to be the best to fight to win a championship.
To say that to win one it has to be with a great team, with the perfect cirscumstances, and to say that maybe they could make a deep run and some day reach the finals again, instead of saying next year is our year, or at least give some kind of hope to the Mavs fans, but no, it was just like if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.
Posted by: lakofan | May 15, 2007 at 09:45 AM
But given how commissioner David Stern has shown zero tolerance for player misconduct since the Detroit-Indiana brawl, what Stoudemire and Diaw did simply wasn't smart. And by the way, did you notice how the Spurs' bench stayed put, further undermining Stoudemire's contrived explanation.
Should they be suspended... YES!
We'll see!!
Posted by: keifo | May 15, 2007 at 09:46 AM
generic_one: I'm not sure if the league looks at whether the player got chucked from the game or not. I know they shouldn't. And if a guy gets chucked out of a game his team is gonna lose, with only seconds left, how much of a punishment is that? Not much, I'm thinking, he just gets first dibs at the showers.
Th ething I don't think you guys understand is that if it's open season on star players, what do you think is gonna happen to Kobe next year? You don't think he's gonna be eating a hip check or two? For a marginal player like Horry is now? Every team in the league will make that exchange.
Posted by: Michael A | May 15, 2007 at 09:51 AM
Michael A: The Flagrant 2 foul (2 points) that was called adds onto Horry's record for the post-season and after he gets 5 total points, he'll be suspended. So, that is a bit of a deterrant. Remember, the post-season is a bit different. During the regular season that would have been much more likely to be an automatic suspension. If Raja Bell only got one game for clothes-lining Kobe, Horry probably won't get anything at all.
