Someone Buy Kwame Brown A Watch

Or a cellie with a clock.  Or a sundial.  Something to help him keep track of the passing hours, because the lack of timeliness just cost him a starting job tonight against Dallas.  When asked about any lineup changes for the game, Phil Jackson talked instead of the potential shakeup that didn't go down.  "I was going to start Kwame today, but he didn't show up in time for the shoot around, so I changed my mind."  Jackson didn't look terribly annoyed when discussing the tardiness, simply explaining that Kwame said he didn't have a good excuse, so that was kinda that.  In the future, Brown should probe his coach for suggestions.  "Daylight savings might have been a good excuse if he wanted to use it."

And would it have worked?

"No."

As for the incumbent, if shaky-grounded, starter Andrew Bynum, Phil suspects the kid is just "getting ground down."  But even if Socks' body hasn't been willing of late, the spirit has, which was pleasing to his coach.  "He said he was anxious to watch the game tape of Philadelphia, because he made some mistakes.  We talked about leaning away from the basket on some shots that were short, instead of going to the hoop.  I liked his attitude after the game."  Jackson also described tonight's game as "a good opportunity" for the young 'un, since the Mavs centers (DeSagana Diop, Erick Dampier) tend to play behind their opponent, as opposed to fronting or high siding.  Aside from it being easier to get the ball to Bynum, it'll be easier for Bynum to give it back, a skill set the kid possesses.  "Andrew's actually a good passer out of the post."

Make sure to listen to the audio, as Phil has a great new nickname for Vlad.

Clip one- talks about Dallas' D, Bynum working to improve post Philly (watched tape), difficulty of getting ball inside on Dallas- they do a good job disrupting lanes of penetration (for both the ball and people) Download phil_jackson_3.11 on Dallas, Bynum.mp3

On Odom's progress from injury- wants to start practicing this week- very encouraged by his progress.  He'll have to be mindful of what he can and can't do...

On Walton, Vlad Rad- talks about thier progress- Walton still a possibility for Thursday in Denver- also says guys need to be able to do whatever they can do to help, even if they're not quite right healthwise.  Contribute where they can (question was balancing need for guys to come back w/ need to make sure they don't get injured again).  Download phil_jackson_3.11 on Walton, Vlad Rad.mp3

Kwame Brown best body in the NBA? Yea......what-ever! The guy is built like a power forward and plays down to my expectation everytime he plays, which is like crap.......and we're here talking about practice? He's helping bring this team down with the way he plays and we're talking about practice. practice? what about practice? " he makes 8 million a year, you think he cares about you and me? ask your father if he gets fired, will kwame come and pay for your fathers rent? no, he won't. nobody cares."

While both grew up in St. Louis without NBA basketball, Andrew became a die hard Lakers fanatic after moving to L.A. to attend USC. That he managed to find a job requiring him to obsess over his favorite team, the same activity that prompted him to waste time while working other jobs, is pretty incredible. As for Brian, his baptism into pro hoops fandom has been provided by the "All Lakers, All The Time" citizens of Los Angeles. Beats the hell out of covering the Bucks.
