Game Thread - Lakers vs. Grizzlies
It's a little early, but given how long it's been since the Lakers won a roadie, I figured they could 12 extra minutes of positive "game" vibes.

Kobe's line tonight: 9-27, 6 a, 6 r, 25 points

Kobe tonight: 57 points
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:25 PM
Smush with two good passes already. He's hit his quota already.
Posted by: mitchell | March 22, 2007 at 05:28 PM
Let's go lakers,
We need this one!
As Mike T. says, MAKE THEM OBEY

C'mon KOBE!!
Matt

Kobe 13 1st Qtr points, and he was cold in at times, on pace for 52 points.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:35 PM
Kobe's going for 50! He basically has to average 13 points per quarter, and what does he get in the first? 13...Rejoice Laker haters!
Wes
Posted by: wesjoenixon | March 22, 2007 at 05:37 PM
Im sorry guys but im kind of pulling for memphis to keep the game close so kobe can get 50 again! Make no mistake, i want the lakers to win first and formost but if kobe can get 50 along the way, it would be that much sweeter.
Its a real shame how much of an emotional investment i have in the lakers. The last couple weeks have been sooo hard for me but in the last two games with the 2 W's and Kobe being otherworldly, i've been on cloud 17!
Posted by: EJ | March 22, 2007 at 05:37 PM
Grizz are the worst defensive team, and have worst record - perfect for an big scoring night by Kobe.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:38 PM
Grizz logo at half court looks like a heart from straight on. that's cute.
Tech for Sasha. M. Thompson says he should curse in his native language so the refs don't hear.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:42 PM
What did Sasha get a tech for?
Posted by: J Mike | March 22, 2007 at 05:43 PM
Luke's acting in the "Custom Comfort Mattress" radio commercial is so good. He says it like he really feels it. So much emotion.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:45 PM
Lamar's having a good night.
Kwame needs to learn to finish.
It's all about Defense guys... let's go!
GO LAKE SHOW!!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 05:45 PM
Watching Memphis play D kind of puts the Lakers' defensive issues in perspective. It can always be worse...
BK

Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 05:46 PM
J Mike,
Outta frustration, Sasha threw the ball at the goal. Can't do that in today's NBA.
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 05:47 PM
GO LUKE... GO LUKE!!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 05:48 PM
Ajax,
BK and I laugh about that radio ad all the time. Luke is so unconvincing. Between that, his jumbotron PSA at the beginning of games and his soap opera performance, we've determined he may be the worst actor in the NBA.
And yes, that's including Darius Miles in "The Perfect Score." haha
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 05:49 PM
Thanks AK! You're saving me here... Gamecast just doesn't give me enough!!
Posted by: J Mike | March 22, 2007 at 05:49 PM
Grizz are now down by 5 against Kobe-less lineup of Luke, Shammond, Bynum, Odom & Smush. Phil calls for time! Will Kobe be put back in? ...Yes.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:53 PM
AK,
Thats funny. I heard he's deciding on whether to take acting lessons from Shaq or Ray Allen.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:57 PM
Kwame hitting from the stripe?? What's the world coming to?
Posted by: J Mike | March 22, 2007 at 05:57 PM
Some players try to get a double-double, others get a double-dribble, like Kwame Brown.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 05:59 PM
haha kwame's retarded
Posted by: m0wd0wn | March 22, 2007 at 06:00 PM
Ajax,
Actually, Luke should go with Rick Fox. Dude was great on "Oz." But between Jesus Shuttleworth and Kazaam, it's not much of a quandary. haha
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 06:00 PM
Okay... take Kwame out of the game!!!
Get you're head out of your a$$!!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 06:00 PM
If we make the playoffs, we're going to get our asses kicked!!
WeJust can't play the whole 48 minutes!!
NO DEFENSE!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 06:04 PM
wow - another tech... Getting chippy?
Posted by: J Mike | March 22, 2007 at 06:05 PM
AK-
Yeah, now Rick Fox is someone who is serious about acting. Probably because he needed a new job. But hes OK.
Kwame gets a T! Perfect from the stripe, but finding new ways to mess up.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:05 PM
WOW. Long 3 from Kobe!! 24 points so far. at least 6 ft behind the arc.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:07 PM
WOW!
what planet is Kobe from??????????????????????????
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 06:08 PM
Ajax,
Fox definitely takes acting very seriously. I talked to him about it a few times when he was still playing. He takes private classes and lessons. I think he has a recurring role on that new Courtney Cox show "Dirt" on FX.
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 06:08 PM
Didn't Luke have a guest spot on a soap...I think that it was on "the Young and the Restless"? I wonder if he was any good on that.
Posted by: lalbballfan | March 22, 2007 at 06:09 PM
Anyone with LO on their fantasy squad is stoked. He's already got 14/10/3, plus 3 steals. Now there's a stat line that's branching out.
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 06:11 PM
Well Kobe has 24 so far at the half. I'm thinking he's gonna score more in the 2nd half. Good start on the way to 50.
Some good ball movement from the Lakers. High scoring, low defense game so far. Odom has 14, 10 and 3 ast. He could get to 30 if he wanted to.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:11 PM
Here goes selfish Kobe again...never sharing the wealth. How do these other guys play with him?
Posted by: Jamison | March 22, 2007 at 06:13 PM
labballfan,
Um, you be the judge of Walton's acting "prowess."
http://lakersblog.latimes.com/lakersblog/2006/08/i_like_luke_wal.html
There are many reasons I'd like to see the guy resign with the Lakers, but none include "because the film industry needs him to remain in close proximity." haha
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 06:16 PM
AK,
Yeah I heard fox plays an NBA player on "Dirt". I read some article on him yesterday. But yeah he really likes the acting world. Luke couldn't even play himself on that soap opera show!! Man.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:16 PM
Odom stats for this game 26pts, 20 rebs, 8assts.
Kobe 48 pts, 2pts shy of 50
believe me
Posted by: nonzki | March 22, 2007 at 06:17 PM
Who cares what Kobe get's.
Let's just get the W!!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 06:22 PM
Ajax,
I've never seen "Dirt," but my girlfriend likes it. FX actually makes some very good programs. I've heard great things about "Rescue Me," and BK likes "Nip/Tuck." Their new one, "The Riches" has potential, "30 Days" is cool, "Thief" w/ Andre Braugher was entertaining (but unfortunately got cancelled) and I personally think "The Shield" is the best show on TV right now. Period. It's the most intense drama I've ever seen.
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 06:23 PM
I hope Denver loose tonight. It has been a close game so far... I will root for Chicago this time.
Posted by: nonzki | March 22, 2007 at 06:25 PM
Here we go again... another horrible 3rd quarter
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 06:30 PM
AK,
Your kiddin me! "The Shield" and "Nip/Tuck" are the ONLY shows I watch on TV. In fact the only thing I watch except Lakers games, and movies, of course. but "The Shield" is exactly what you said, "most intense drama"! Yeah I've been watching both since the first seasons. And I have seen one episode of 30 days and it was great. But those are the only 2 shows that I watch every episode. I didn't wanna see "Dirt" because the commercials & that song that sings, "This time you've gone too far!" over and over and over. It annoyed me so much.
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:31 PM
these guys are going to out hustle us the rest of the way... watch!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 06:33 PM
Did McKie drop off the face of the earth? I have not seen him play that much. Has he been put back on bench duty? I thought that he was playing well enough to secure more minutes than he was originally getting but maybe I was wrong.
Posted by: lalbballfan | March 22, 2007 at 06:34 PM
Double T's on Kobe and jones. Phil says Jones started it!
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:35 PM
Damn! Kobe is missing his shots
Posted by: nonzki | March 22, 2007 at 06:37 PM
Good to see the Lakers have shaken that habit of playing to the level of their competition. The good news is that trend should pay dividends in the playoffs.
BK
Posted by: Brian Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 06:39 PM
Why does it always have to be a struggle??????
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 06:40 PM
THIS TEAM IS DEAD !
Posted by: albert | March 22, 2007 at 06:41 PM
The crowd seems to care more about the college game than the one if front of them!
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:49 PM
It becomes a battle of three pointers. Damn!!!! why is Mike Miller a better player when he is playing against the Lakers!!
Posted by: nonzki | March 22, 2007 at 06:51 PM
This team is SORRY.
Regardless of the outcome , we cant decisevely beat the worst team in NBA in the MUST WIN GAME !!!
Posted by: albert | March 22, 2007 at 06:52 PM
Ajax,
Dude, I CAN'T WAIT until April 3rd and the season premeire. My jaw dropped when Shane killed Lem. I can't even picture what's gonna happen when Vic figures it out. Talk about playing with fire.
And don't discount Ronnie's reaction, either. He and Lem were tight and his character has grown darker as the show's progressed. He's also smart enough to create a plan that won't get him caught.

nice chattin w/ ya. gotta hit the road.
Go Lakers!
Posted by: ajax | March 22, 2007 at 06:54 PM
Please tell me Kobe isn't guarding Mike Miller
Posted by: fakerz | March 22, 2007 at 06:54 PM
Great second pass from Kwame to LO in the paint. He dished that off really smoothly.
That's also what makes Kwame's bobbles even more aggravating. The guy is actually a pretty good (and underrated) passer, but that ability becomes considerably offset when you have trouble hanging onto the ball.
AK
Posted by: Andrew Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 06:56 PM
In case any one was wondering Chicago and Denver are about to start the second half and Denver is losing 55-51.

What kind of d was that on gay??
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 07:16 PM
Has anyone noticed that every time Kobe has one of these nights that Lamar's stat line is always overlooked. I'm not watch the game but based on the stats LO is kicking butt.
Posted by: Icecold | March 22, 2007 at 07:17 PM
Congrat KB24... now lets top it off with a win!!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 07:18 PM
LO is absolutely kicking butt!!!
Posted by: keifo | March 22, 2007 at 07:22 PM
Scoreboard:
Denver up by three at 83-80 with one minute left in the third
UCLA up over Pittsbugh 16-11 with 8:33 left in the first half.
In case you wanted to know.
Posted by: lalbballfan | March 22, 2007 at 07:23 PM
What's really impressive, too, is the percentage he's shooting at. When a guy is shooting over 50%, it kind of negates the whole "Good Kobe/Bad Kobe" arguements. Mostly it's just a question of if looking for or counting on this sort of production is healthy over a long stretch of games.
BK
Posted by: Brian Kamenetzky | March 22, 2007 at 07:23 PM
Kobe's on his way to the SIXTY point mark. History's in the making here.
Lets play DEFENSE and WIN this one.
Watch out for the media to call KB24 selfish.
GO KOBE!
GO LAKERS!

Forget the damn media man. Kobe can't win with them fools. I'm proud of him for making history. He's making his mark as one of the best players to EVER play the game. To be considered among the greats is just not a coincidence.
GO KOBE!

No Defense, again!

So that Kobe dude is pretty good huh? I daresay we needed his offense tonight, with our defense so crappy. YAY Win!
Kobe's 60 ain't even that hard haha, jk. It's been said before, and really will be said many many more times...he makes it look so easy. Defying the laws of basketball, thy name is Kobe Bryant.

I do not like it !
Kobe is great , as usual .
Lamar is very good.
It still looks bad to me , they barely beat the WORST TEAM IN NBA .
Kobe has to play 45 min ?
Other than Lamar's performance , do you see any reason to celebrate ?
Posted by: albert | March 22, 2007 at 07:47 PM
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Weatherman! Some birthday huh? lol.
Posted by: Faith | March 22, 2007 at 07:47 PM
wow another scoring explosion from kobe, nice win. Of course it was memphis, worse team and worse defense in the league, but at least it was a win. Kobe has his hot hand and it still scorching, will it still be hot for tomorrow. Our defense is still horrible including Kobe's.
