On Robots
And not the kind that will, in the future, clean your house and mind your children. Nor do I speak of killer robots- cyborgs, if you will- bent on the destruction of the human race (however attractive they may be). No, these bots are much, much worse, because they keep people away from the Lakers Blog. As most of you know, we've been having issues with the Spam-Bot identifying some readers as mindless purveyors of web noise. I got a bit of advice from the mothership today, who suggested registering with TypeKey/TypePad (which you can do before leaving a comment) may help alleviate the problem. I don't know for sure if it'll work, though. For those of you who are worried about ending up on a list, which is generally what happens when you register anything with anyone, I have been assured that no information you'll have to enter will be shared with the LA Times. I have no idea what the TypePad/TypeKey folks do with it, though. But if you're having trouble, it's worth a shot. Obviously, AK and I are registered (we have to be, to operate the site), and I haven't been inundated with excess spam or what have you.
Hope it helps.
BK

AK/BK,
Just some FYI you can relay back.
1. Registering does not fix the problem. When your IP address is blocked the application does not allow anything under "Post a comment" to appear on the page, therefore you can't sign in, look at the legal spiel, etc.
2. Again, this is a matter of IP's getting blocked. They cleared the block list last time, which is how Faith, bob, and I were able to get back in after we were blocked the first time. Case in point, I use the same laptop at work and at home. I can't get in when I hook up to my network at home, but I can get in fine at work. Why? Different IP's.

LoLo,
I don't think BK is saying registering will fix it, rather it'll prevent it.

I can definitely attest to the "pos a comment" being MIA (not Miami, which is ironic lol, but missing in action).
Thanks for trying though. Much love.

Okay, that makes sense. If you happen to have a blocked IP, send it to the blog email (kambrothers@yahoo.com) and we'll try to get it unblocked.

It's also possible that it's something with your ISP. Just a question, but do the 3 of you have the same service provider?

I've said this all along guys!! Get a new ISP!

Wow....confused with all this chatter...IP, SPAM (which I thought was just a Hawaiian gormet food), and ISP....
Whew...I'll stick with the DTI's. DR's, LTV and CLTV's that I have come to know in my profession...
Good luck with YOUR mess. I will just add my 2 cents...LOL

I have RR...I dunno about Lolo...or bob (previously) for that matter. Man those cable companies get you...where else am I going to get cable, phone and internet for one low price? The catch...you get bot imprisoned.
(deal rhetorical of course, I know others have deals too lol).
As for the ip...haha, when they get you they get you.

AK,
We need a better workaround. I'm not going to do some preventative gesture to avoid some random banning event. If the blog is dumb enough to ban me, it can do without my comments. I know others are similarly unmotivated/lazy related to this type of thing.
It's up to you, not up to us, to make sure that we are able to successfully post on this blog, especially when one or more of us communicates the problem to you.

Benjamin,
This isn't a matter of BK and I refusing to take certain steps to make your lives easier. We're dealing with technical issues that are beyond our control, understanding or expertise. To a large degree, this is out of our hands. The suggestions in this thread are the best we can offer. We can't do any better than our best.

Benjamin-
That's sort of the point. We're working to try and make this go as smoothly as possible. Some people on the site have asked us for a long time to create a registration/log in for users, which we've resisted because we feel like some readers will choose not to register, generally because it's one more list to be on, one more step to go through.
We don't write the technology, we just work within it, and are trying to make it go as well as possible.

Hi Brian and Andrew (aka Andy),
Jan and I just saw you on youtube. Awesome. It's enough to turn us into Lakers fans. Keep up the good work.
