Game Thread - Lakers vs. Warriors

The key to a Laker victory?  Keeping the ball out of Adonal Foyle's hands.

Either that, or in his hands at all times and at all costs.  I can never remember which one.

GO LAKERS!

TEACH THEM SOME MANNERS!

mike

How Smush is such a bad shooter at the stripe is beyond me. And beyond excuses. Dude needs to get it together in that regard.

AK

Bynum's been very active early on. 6 points and, more importantly, 5 boards in just 6 minutes. Good start. They need to keep him involved.

AK

To me, Smush, is just weak minded. I'm already looking forward to Williams and McKie to come in the game.

mike

Bynum is picking those boards!

Mike: how are you watching the game?

KCAL 9 in Los Angeles.

mike

Damnit, next season i'll buy NBA League pass!

Hm.. According to NBA.Com, the Lakers are playing 6 players, and McKie and Walton both have assists without playing. interesting?

So far we're having a great effort. Nice block by Turiaf.

mike

Hello Lakerland,

Great move by Lamar.

Another Shammond sighting. Better looking D.

Great pass Lamar.

Man, are we actually contesting shots? Seems to me as GSW are missing shots. Hah! Who would have thought.

So much for not being able to win without Luke,Kwame, we are kicking @SS.

Rizzo: Still Golden State though...

Hate to see 4 offensive rebs, but 5 cracks at it without letting them score, I dont mind that...

33-9 run we are kicking butt, i told ya the pressure is off we are making a Playoff run!!!

Mo's balling...

Maurice Evans in the Starting lineup has been what we needed, how can you have a guy that good and athletic and try to play him off the bench? Luke better not get this kid's spot when he returns, he better take Smush's spot.

Is luke walton playing? I see his name on the official lineup for todays' game.

Anyone has an info on that?

Mo Evans is balling tonight!!! 13 points on a 5 of 8 shooting!!! Actually leads all scorers for lalakers

Mo just took a nasty spill. hopefully he'll be good for the rest of this game and not show any ill effects afterwards.

GO LAKERS!

If im not mistaken we got beat by Bobcats, a win is a win, thats what we have not been doing, beating teams we are supposed to dominate, Is there an asterisk beside 19 of the Suns wins because they played SCRUBS?, dont think so, this is a good OMEN for us.

Wow, Phoenix was down to the Hawks early in the first but made a big run to end the first 38-24. In the second with 5 1/2 to go the Hawks were winning the quarter 20-5 to take the lead 44-43. Amazing.

Kobe just dove for a loose ball, looks like he tweaked his left shoulder a bit. Hopefully it's a non-issue.

Great effort.

Can someone explain to me the Lakers white jersey thing? I know they've used it a few times before on away games, but what's the rule on that?

AK/BK?

Socalife: What do you mean? what happened to him?

The last thing we need is another injury... I hope Mo Evans is alright.

Since the 2004 season the White jerseys are our Sunday jerseys no matter where we are.

Mo Evans that is..

White jerseys come out on Sunday's.

Monta Ellis is super fast, and a freebie, he's so gonna get paid....

kristoffer:

looks like KB's okay, but what happened was that a pass was deflected and kobe went after it and to get the ball he dove head first and slid on his back with his left arm stretched out to get possession of the ball. he called time and then started rubbing his left shoulder while on the ground and continued to do so as he got up.

I got to believe by the way we are playing that half of our team really THOUGHT they were gonna be traded! Its night and day, this is how we played to start the season. I am so glad No TRADES were made. I'll go to war with these guys anytime, i like our chances GO LAKERS!!!

rizzo, najja:

for some reason i keep thinking that the white jersey's were only for home games on sunday.

i may have been thrown off because the Lakers played in their yellow home jerseys in Utah earlier this year for some weird reason.

Hey guys, I'm here at the red carpet heard the Lakers are leading by double digit as a road team, keep it up just have faith on Shammond!

Does anyone know or has a link to a live feed where I can watch the game?

I remember that socalife. That was weird...

So are they going to cut Vlad and void the contract for his actions and subsequent lies? He hinted that he had a clause against the activity. Would it help us to cut him? Do we get any extra money or cap space....

So Richard, I live off my brother's league pass online, its hard being a Laker fan is Tejas...

Also watching Knicks and Nets, Vince is showing out.

Damn NBA League Pass & Comcast MI,
audio isnt working....

anyone have the lakers online radio stations list?

Meant to say "sorry Richard"

Najja aka Bonus:

Harder in Norway i guess..

I would have to say Kristoffer

Allright guys, got to sign out. time is 0135, and i have school tomorrow. Hopefully the Lakers can win this game!

Kris

GO LAKERS!

smush parker really SUCKS!!!

I'm enjoying Mighty Mo's big minutes.

GO LAKERS!

It's also nice to see Williams and McKie get some mintues. I'd like to see Sasha in the mix too tonight too.

Better.

GO LAKERS!

Kind of an odd lineup to start the fourth.

GO LAKERS!

Did Cookie just fight for a reb, WOW, never seen that before, will we ever see it again?

Numba One!

Go Super Lakers!

Shammond is shooting the ball really well, glad to finally see the stroke they said he had when we signed him...

WOW

najja:
that would free up the MLE that we used on him, but i'm thinking that if he can get healthy and learn the triangle a bit better...oooh...he'd be killer.

remember the glen rice signing? :) okay, so vlad isn't quite there.. but yeah, one can hope.

BTW: John Ireland just reported on the white Laker jersey's. The Lakers are wearing the white ones today because of the special alternate jersey's that the Warriors are wearing today (and for the next seven games).

*shrug*

i need a definitive answer!!!!!!

I still say that the Lakers only wear the white ones at home on Sundays.

I guess we will remain undefeated when McKie plays...LOL! Isn't that an awesome statistic? I say play him every game now...he must be our lucky charm.

socalife,

does that double it then. Does that mean we get 2 MLE's for this offeseason.

I agree, once he learns the triangle, he could be deadly. I just have a sneaky feeling after the Kings tried so hard, that Bibby is going to opt out. Imagine that jumper in the triangle.

Come on, Socks. Double-Double.

GO LAKERS!

I'd like to see Mighty Mo starting in the future at point guard.

GO LAKERS!

Mo for a second rounder is one of the best moves of Mitch's young career as a GM.

So, who should Phil deactivate when Kwame and Luke get healed?

GO LAKERS!

2 games in a row we hold teams under 100 pts...defense must be looking upwards...yeah I know Boston/GS but still it shows improvement cause we were giving up lots of points to bad teams before this too.

A good win. A win we should have win and did so handily.

Good.

Less minutes for Smush. More minutes for Mo, Williams, Farmar, and Sasha.

I can't wait until Luke and Lord Kwame are back.

GO LAKERS!

Shammond!!

Amazing to see the difference between Smush and Shammond on defense. Just shows you how bad Smush is on defense. Shammond will help AND get back to his guy, how many times have we seen the Smusher help anyone else on the team on defense?

Deactivate Cookie...

Jon:

Farmar/Smush....Let Smush's ankle heal...LOL

finally playing some good ball - go Lakers.

how much longer til luke and kwam come back?

i thought smush's game is ok but when i really focus on watching him play offense and esp defense he really is very much atrociously sucks PERIOD.

Fan of the Mamba,
Good lookin out on the link. 'Preciate it.

Also,
great to see the old vets get some burn. I dont want to see too much, because their lack of athleticism will get exposed, BUT getting them in instead of heavy reserve minutes for Farmar or Sasha is a plus. Even Smush doesnt need any 30 minute outings. Our PGs should be kept fresh and active and minimizing the mistakes.

for tonight,
Good job Phil.

and for tonight,
good job kobe.

It's amazing how devastating a team we are when AGGRESSIVE KOBE comes to play.

Less quick shots, more smart passing, and generally more effort.

How many minutes did Sasha play again today?

Lakers are still the only NBA team Undefeated in its division.

This may change considering going up against phoenix this week.

Korey,

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there...they might be athletically challenged, but they more than make up for it with smarts...and offense. Besides as a team we're not bursting with athleticism to begin with. Did you see that set in which they literally played the best defensive set I've ever seen this whole year? Switching, talking, doubling, covering...awesome!

In fact I think they should play more...or at least consistently. Some would say you can't play that many people...but I think as long as they're getting the job done, you have to use them.

smooth d,

They're saying friday for both. They practiced in LA together today. And were able to move laterally. So looking good.

Impressions on a Laker win...

It's not rocket science. You play defense, you win. For the past couple of games we've made a concerned effort to play defense, talk on defense, rotate and challenge. And we've won both games. Nice to see, good job Lakes!

AK / BK,
Any word if the Lakers are interested in Scottie Pippen or not? I know Evans is playing well and Williams and McKee are getting playing time so I didn't know if Phil was trying to get in house help first or if there was just no interest in Pippen. Thanks.

Korey,

My thoughts exactly. A little relief for Jordan and Sasha from Shammond and Mckie would be the best thing for this team. Minutes should look something like this:

Smush 25:00
Jordan 18:00
Sasha 11:00
Shammond 10:00
McKie 6:00

*Smush and Sasha can also slid to the 2 at certain points.

What's up Faith,

I was just thinking you gotta have Faith on the blog. Where's Faith?

Lo and behold you're here.

You are so right about the "D". Lots of us have said it's not the offense that's jacked up, it's the defense. Shammond and Aaron brought that missing ingredient called team defensive presence. We could always score, the problem has been we couldn't stop anybody else from scoring.

To echo others, Good job Lakers!

Guys,

I think Aaron mckie and shammond may just be the answer for Phil. I'm happy to see those Vets get playing minutes.

I'm pleased with the win tonight..Shammon Williams is the man! I am surprised Phil hasn't played him more often until now. So the only challenge is tomorrows game against the Jazz..I heard last season they were 26-29 and now they are 37-18..eek! Hopefully the Lakers can play smart and not get so many turn overs.

Faith,
remember, over time athleticism will show itself out no matter what.

Thus, you cant try to play McKie 25 mins unless you expect to get killed out there... But if we use McKie or Shammond in advantageous and limited situations it could be too our benefit.

Even if it's just a bridge to get Kobe or L.O. some rest we need them to play BUT we dont need them to be too big of players.

trust me...you dont want to see that!

MOLaker-

Before the game on Friday, PJ was asked about Pippen, and he said they'd talk. But they'd also have to see him play, run, and move before signing him. Honestly, unless he shows up and does something really impressive, I'm not sure how he helps. Yes, he was once a great player, but I (like a lot of people) wonder what he's got left at 41. And given how Shammond has played in the last couple days, clearly he has something to offer, and McKie might have a little left, too. They'd have to drop one of those two, and while it probably wouldn't do damage, I don't know if it'll help. If I had to guess, it won't happen.

BK

Pippen won't show up. He thinks he's better than Jordan, so what must he think of Kobe? Pippen's got a bad attitude. He should be so lucky that the Lakers would give him a look.

BK

From what you say he said, it would seem like he is giving those two playing time to see which he would rather cut, if they decide to cut someone. It wouldnt be just to pick up pippen, because he may not want to come here, but maybe some other person, kind of like a Jim Jackson signing. Giving Mckie and Williams some burn to see which is worth keeping could be why we are seeing them, along with Smush's ankle issue.

Tushar-

I hadn't thought of that, but it's possible, I guess. Though the see so much of these guys in practice, I'm not sure it would be needed. But you could be right.

BK

bk,

you know i have been a shammond lobbyist for some time now. glad to see him get some playing time and provide some positive results.

which poses a couple of questions:

is phil jackson that smart?

or has he lost touch?

it took him more than half of a season with lackluster (and sometimes poor) results at the pg position and a six game losing streak to give shammond williams some significant playing time???

and guess what? two games with shammond getting some decent pt and two laker wins.

albeit versus the celtics and warriors, but then again this is the same laker squad that loses to the likes of the hornets and bucks.

props to shammond for WAITING VERRRRY PATIENTLY all season, staying ready for when his number was called.

that's called a true professional.

and it's GREAT to know that we a couple of those on this laker squad.

c'mon lake show, four more in a row and we wipe that 6 game skid off the map.

tha show.

najja: i'm not sure if we get two MLE's

faith: veteran smarts is definitely a plus, but like Korey said, we can't have those old timers playing too many minutes. at least not those guys. contrary, with a better team like that of a few years ago, we had Harper, Fox and Shaw playing big minutes. they excelled, but that's mostly because they're betteer players to begin with.

drew: Shammond got behind the 8ball with a stress fracture to his pelvis! he said he couldn't really play with that injury.

It's good the see the vets doing well in their first outings of the season. Shammond and Aaron have stepped it up and are showing the team why veterans are so important.

bk,

so the shammond playing time is some kind of a mock tryout?

wow.

didn't know tha lake show was that cold blooded...

i guess phil and the laker management ARE that stupid if this theory is true.

i mean, they can't tell who's worth cutting by scrimmages during practice?

so they'd rather sacrifice the lakers record and playoff seeding by testing the quality of these players in REAL GAMES?

wow squared.

tha show-

I don't think so, but it was an interesting theory raised. We entertain 'em all.

BK

bk,

right on.

aren't you happy to see shammond playing well?

good for him.

Nice to see Kobe get some help by Evans.

Anyone know where I can buy a Bynum, Turiaf, Mihm LAKER jersey?? I can't find them anywhere.

What a difference 2 wins do on the blog. Seems stress free.

Colorado loves the LAKERS!

BK,
Thanks for the Pippen update. Other than LA Times, I don't get much Lakers news here in the midwest. I had thought also that they may be playing Williams and McKee to see who to keep and who to cut if they have interest in Pippen. I could see Phil holding a guy like McKee out 3/4 of the season though, knowing he is only going to get so many miles out of him in a season. I could possibly see Mihm being cut if he is indeed out for the year, that would open a roster spot too. Pippen knows the triangle and I would think he would be a positive influence on the young guys come playoff time. Go Lakers!!!!!

Fan of the Mamba,

lol...I'm around. I was blocked for awhile...plus bot checked constantly. So I don't post as much. But good point on the O vs. D. It was tough cause this blog was like a battle the last couple of weeks...and couldn't interject with calm lol.

It's all good right now, right the ship they did...defensively, nothing to hate there. lol.

Korey,

I hate to disagree with someone as brilliant as yourself lol...but athleticism isn't always the key. The GS warriors are athletic, the Bobcats are athletic...yet teams like the Spurs (old and not very athletic) tend to win more with their smarts. To be fair though I think of teams like Dallas athletic and smart...so they're the exception. Let's face it...foot speed alone and we're left wanting, athleticism...like I said, we're not the most or even in that conversation...but what we can be is smart...and it seemed like we didn't have much of that either, with late turnovers, and mental breakdowns on missed freethrows, non-corralled rebounds. We're winning lately not because of speed, and not just with effort...but cause we're playing smart. If there's one thing vets know to do...it's play smart. PJ put them in not so much to get a jolt...but also because unlike rookies, they're more likely to put in a consistent effort after "rock bottom." I do agree with you in that we don't know how long it'll stay...I'm sure even PJ is apprehensive on how long they can be effective, not really being in game shape...but for whatever it's worth, they've given us a jolt, with their play, and their veteran-ism.

lol, I had a point in there somewhere.

Hugo Boss,

try http://lakersstore.com/

Maybe some of you didn't see Pj's news conference the other day.

He said Shammond and Mckie are replacing Farmar and Sasha in the rotation.

Farmar and Sasha would be used in case of foul trouble or a blowout. Which is what weve seen the last two games.

He said we needed vet in the line up as we go into the playoffs.

Shammond in his interview Fri said PJ told him thur he would replace Farmar and was still surprised when his number was called.

PJ still feels Smush is the guy he trusts to start. PJ see's something most of us don't.

So I guess this means we don't need Luke Walton after all...

I thought all along Mighty Mo can be our second options... he got game, he should be starting.

I think that PJ hasn't been playing Shammond until now, because he wanted Farmar and Sasha to grow. Now that they have not proven to be good enough, he has startet to play the vets who have much more leadership.

Thanks Faith.

I appreciate it.
