Kwame Brown is Bored

If you happen to run into #54 these days, recommend a good book, tell him a good anecdote, suggest a hobby, or whatever else you think can help him kill a little time.  Because when it comes to his daily life these days (which consists of a lot of treatment, tweaking and sitting), Kwame is feeling mighty antsy.  And bloated.  "I'm scared to take off this shirt," laughed Brown as he talked with the surrounding reporters.  "Show off this fat."  As one might guess, Kwame's version of "doughy" is the kind of build every male reader would kill to show off on the beach for an hour.  The guy hasn't gone soft quite yet.  But his bum ankle's nonetheless getting in the way of both his normal workouts and just his time on the floor, which he really misses.   Kwame's still not sure when he's coming back, although he figured he definitely needs another week.  He'll use those 7 days to down some meds, which will hopefully take down the swelling and enable him to jump and explode to his liking. Asked if the time off has helped his shoulder, Kwame said he didn't know, because he hasn't been absorbing any contact during the rehab period. "I haven't touched anybody. Except for the cake."

As most of y'all know, Kwame's got a good sense of humor and isn't above making a joke at his own expense.  But for those who've worried about Phil's occasional ribbing of Kwame (whether cake-gate, the fumbles, or what have you) will hurt their relationship, sweat another subject, because as far as the center's concerned, it's all good.  "There's some people that can't take, but I'm one of the guys that can take it, so give it to me."  In fact, he often finds it a relief when Phil throws a zinger his way.  "I learned a long time ago, when he's not joking, that's you gotta worry.  When a coach is not talking to you, not joking, you're probably on your way out.  At least I know I'm here a couple days longer."

I love Kwame, but you would think he'd have plenty of stuff to keep him busy in his downtime. How about having somebody pass him the ball a thousand times a day at different angles and make him catch it. God knows he could use the practice at that...J/K Kwame, hurry back!!

Here's a suggestion for Kwame...practice your free throws.

Funny man, this Kwame is.

While both grew up in St. Louis without NBA basketball, Andrew became a die hard Lakers fanatic after moving to L.A. to attend USC. That he managed to find a job requiring him to obsess over his favorite team, the same activity that prompted him to waste time while working other jobs, is pretty incredible. As for Brian, his baptism into pro hoops fandom has been provided by the "All Lakers, All The Time" citizens of Los Angeles. Beats the hell out of covering the Bucks.
