Amazing story.
Answer is A. It's an emotional thing.

where does he keep his rings? His championship trophies (wait they don't get one...the team gets one) okay....his mvp? I'd say it would go with them. What I would really like to know is his acceptance speech.

I have a question.
Has there ever been a better role model than Magic?
Everything he does turns to gold.
Always was and always will be my alltime favorite athlete.

Magic is my hero! Before Magic the only Championship we won in Los Angeles was in 1972. The Magic man can put it Staples as far as I'm concerned. Magic made all my frustrations, from following Los Angeles sports teams, go away!

I think a speck of dust got caught in my eye when I watched this clip (ahem), like the times I watched Hoosiers and Rudy.

Heck, I even watch the Late Night Magic Show, LOL! It was Magic, I wasn't going to miss it!

I imagine he would keep it somewhere towards the back of his 30000 square foot trophy room behind his NBA rings and trophys, college trophy, MVPs, and everything else he's got in there.
How can they make a movie about this? The event lasted under 3 minutes. And didn't lead them to a title or anything. What're they going to pad the other hour and a half with? Not every heartwarming news story is a movie waiting to happen.

K Bros,
I want to clear this up for all my fellow Lakers fans who are hearing "that was a charge" regarding Kobe's dunk on Nash. I, too, thought that technically it was an offensive foul because Nash got to the spot before Kobe left his feet. But watching it live, I instinctively knew it was not a charge, or should not have been called one in accordance with the spirit of the game. But I didn't know why. So I went directly to the NBA rulebook for the answer. And I found it.
This should serve as a sort of "talking point" for Lakers fans to defend against the erroneous accusation that an offensive foul should have been called on KB8/KB24.
Here's the answer: On a drive to the basket, the defender must get to his position before the shooter STARTS his upward shooting motion.
If you slo-mo the footage, you will see that before Kobe leaves the ground, he begins his upward motion to the basket. At this point in time, Steve Nash has not established position. In fact, he gets there just a fraction of a second AFTER Kobe starts to move the ball upward (which I contend is a part of his shooting motion, as he dunked the ball).
It's not a charge, really, because the ref didn't call it. But it's not even a charge by the rule book!
You might say, "who cares, they didn't call it", but for fans like me, it takes a burden off of my shoulders to know that the Lakers didn't get away with one, and allows me to appreciate the play without wondering if a foul should have been called on Kobe.
Thanks for your time.

mannie,
I'm sure they will save that 3 mins till the end of the movie (stretching it to 15 mins) while filling up first 2 hours with stories of J-Mac's life as a baby and in school... sort of like the movie Radio with Cuba Gooding Jr.
It can't worst than Magic Show.

the Magic Johnson Show never happened.

It looks like it's going to be a blockbuster movie if done right. The kid himself has charisma maybe he should star in it. His looks somewhat remind me of a young Leonardo Di Caprio who may also be a good candidate for the role. Magic and the kid deserve good things to come out of this project.

I wonder if Isiah Thomas saw footage of the kid. He might give him $60 million over six years.

I saw this video a monthago. My whole family was choking. I still was moved when I saw it today.
A real Walter Mitty story.
I hoe Magic does it justice.
Posted by: Baywood | April 27, 2006 at 05:12 PM
Andrew Z.,
That's hilarious. Although I'm not sure Isaiah would offer him that low a contract. Actually, what gets overlooked is that he took 13 shots in 4 minutes. You know Wafer was watching the highlights and thinking, "Lucky bastard!"
Bayood,
Nice reference with "Walter Mitty." Well played.

Andrew Z and AK,
You guys are too cruel on Isaiah. He's not that stupid.
He knows he's got to throw in at least a first-round pick to make sure it's a done deal.
Posted by: Lukeit | April 27, 2006 at 05:32 PM
Luke,
That's a valid point, because Isaiah is certainly shrewd enough to keep that deal from slipping through his fingers. Although technically speaking, I think the kid is a free agent. So would Thomas be sending the draft pick to the kid's family, for usage at their discretion? Or is it a sign and trade and the pick goes to J-Mac's high school hoops squad?

It's quiet so far ton... all us bloggers are recovering from yesterdays blog blowout, over 450?? that's a record, more than BKs sensitive pick of Shaqs boy.

hey AK, wasn't BK supposed to be on the radio this week? Or was it last week...I'm confused. He's got to tell us, we support our blog brothas. Even a disgraced one...lol...kidding, kidding, hehe. I'll say this about him though, he didn't back down, you gotta admire that ;-)
Posted by: Faith | April 27, 2006 at 05:51 PM
AK,
Good question. I never thought about that. Well, Starbury will definitely get all the shots he want on J-Mac's high school hoops squad...
Posted by: Lukeit | April 27, 2006 at 05:52 PM
Luke,
Actually, that's the makings of a can't miss Hollywood pitch. A selfish, Starbury-esque player, unhappy about not getting enough shots on his NBA team, assumes a new identity so he can re-enter high school, dominate and take 65-70 shots a game. But once he spends a little time around these kids, he remembers what made him the love the game in the first place (And after he thinks he's learned his lesson, he returns to the NBA and inevitably becomes selfish again). Genius!
Get Will Ferrell on board as the baller and this baby's getting green lit by any studio in town.
FYI, this blog provides introvertible evidence that I thought of the idea first. So don't go stealing it or you'll end up getting sued.

Posted by: C | April 27, 2006 at 06:58 PM
Blind Worshipper, thanks for that piece of research. I also had the strong suspicion that it was a block, because Kobe had started his upward motion, although he hadn't yet left the ground. Like I was telling our buddy Belfast, blocking was the right call.

I owe you an apology. Since I have been on travel I have been restricted to dial-up. When I loaded the last blog I never got the pic; instead I got the classic blank box with the “X” in the left corner. I clicked it and was able to download a pic; but it wasn’t of Kobe’s “dunk”. I coupled that with the fact that there was no reference of Kobe’s “dunk” in the write-up and I assumed you took the high road (yeah, I admit kicking Nash while he is down is a low blow, but damn it feels good). I obviously stood corrected when I reached my room and got on the high-speed internet. Anyways, I assumed, and assuming makes an azz out of you and me. I called you out, I was wrong, so I am apologizing. Again, props for the blog.

C,
I'm not positive, because I (like the rest of America) didn't see "Juwanna Man". But if memory serves, I thought that was a guy baller dressing like a woman to get into the WNBA. So I don't think it's quite the same as faking your way into high school boys basketball.

now I'm ashamed to have seen it...but seen it I have ;-) (comedy central, ya know?) It's about this "selfish" nba baller...who got kicked out of the league cause he stripped naked in a game (think Artest lying on that table...that is where he stripped during a game, cause he was being booed I think). So to make money, he played in the wnba...learned about teamwork (from Vivica A. Fox, fell in love with her (oh L'amour, c'est grand hehe))...and got accepted back into the nba as a "changed" man. See, pretty similar. hehe
Posted by: Faith | April 27, 2006 at 07:33 PM
Faith,
I think we all know that in Hollywood, being "similar" to another movie never stopped a project from getting made. If anything, having no originality whatsoever usually increases the odds of getting a green light. haha

lol...
To be fair, most fans stopped regretting since it became super obvious that he is a no-class, attention whore (during that game he came in just to get applause). I respect his game, and his accomplishments, but from that day on (and since I've always been a Kobe fan, earlier) I'm forever grateful Buss chose the way he did. Again, I'm not overlooking what he's done for us, but his attitude soured me completely. Good point about his stats though.

I want to stay in this place and time. This just keeps getting better.
Kobe hurdles Nash to win the 1st of many Laker playoff games, and, for a measley 100 mil, Shaq puts up 8 points and 7 turnovers. Is this a great year or what? Let me see Shaq for, LO, The Kwam, Profit, and whoever we pick up for Grant's 16 mil. Anybody got a problem with that deal now?
If Magic gets an Oscar for that movie it will be in the Ripley museum.
The Magic man is a walkin' feel good story. I love him, but getting that boy an Oscar is an assist that's beyond even his reach.

i think #24 for kobe bryant will be fun to watch next year.. imagine the announcer will said.. then the no. 24 dribble at the baseline make a rainbow pass to no. 54 for a monster dunk.. what the f#@*.. kwame give a huge screen for kobe.. or here come bryant with a nifty behind the back pass to brown for a left handed dunk.. that will be a lot of rhymes there.. that's why kwame should stick with kobe a lakers..
go go lakers..

go kwame brown #54

Absolutely. But don't stop there. Why not have an awards ceremony, on T.V.? Elevate the status of the movie by giving it the "Most Valuable Unoriginal Movie Award". Then you've got a champion! Another Southland conquest. Throw a big bash up in the hills. Invite the media. They'll drop a thousand names and get plenty of footage. You can post some of it on this blog and sing We Are The Champions.
Broke-backers could experience this "too cool" event vicariously and would spar adnauseam over why the losers deserved not to win, and how superior and great the champion is, and by association how great they are. Well gee, who am I going to be today? No. 8 or No. 24? I'm certainly too insecure to be myself.
In fact, I'd bet my third nut (just relax Crrream) and my dog Testes that more than a few brokebackers would fork up a weeks salary for the nashty jockstrap. Don't blush Maleke.
Through the genius of convoluted and sometimes brilliantly articulated La La Land logic, brokebacker thinking (oxymoron) awards the icon dujour, legitimately or not. Be damned how the rest of the world may see it. Which is fine.
Unfortunately though for many broke-backers, without the award, all that will remain is dirty air, polluted water and cement. On many levels, believe me, it wasn't always this way down there. Too bad.
By the way broke-backers, hello, there is a world out here. Almost everybody respects the Brokebacks, even if they don't like them. Saint Kobe Dawg may be the most phenomenal player today, but Steve Nash is MVP. You've got some playoff games left. Get over it.
Crrream, when I think of you, I'm reminded of sweet vanilla bag balm at 4 in the morning. Don't be so sure you aren't my type there sugar britches.

Mike T and Faith should be hangin at courtside soon- best of luck Mike! triple winks ;) x3
Well Old Magic is in the movie business - un real! He is like magic, gets AIDS turns it into HIV and almost gone HIV and has a wife that puts up with it all, then makes up for all his horrible and unbeleiveable behavior by confessing it all and making videos on how to avoid AIDS. Who gets away with that? His name is still golden, his role model persona - well, c'mon he was a male HO while he was running from one city and right through another the whole time cheating on his wife and taking chances with who knows what kind of women- not my role model nor my kids thats for sure. One thing is for sure, he never gives up on himself and no one ever should, that is the best thing about Magic, he is all about mind over matter. I cannot belive to this day he could not get Kobe and Shaq to agree that Kobe had to lead the team and Shaq should have recognized just how lucky he was to be with a player so devoted and so driven. Kobe is 150% more effective and always has had more of magic in him than Shaq ever did. What kind of knuckle head would walk away from Kobe and leave town trying to defame his character. Bad news everytime, and father time is chasing his act out of the league - 2-3 more years is my guess. He just doesn't want it bad enough.
Shaq is out of gas or Diesel and Kobe is just beginning to purr!
The shame that Shaq made a fool of himself here and in LA and in his exit no to mention preseason in Hawaii and not being smart enough to coexist with Kobe is finally starting to show. I loved him as a Laker but the holes in his game hurt us so many times I could not believe the ego he continued to carry around with him, he was a liability at the end of a game (still is) and because he never worked on his wind and ability to run the floor we had to play a slowed down type of ball for years.
This team has enough wind to push the ball a lot more and truly needs a point guard that can run like Nash. Those players do not come around every day but there are a few in the league this year that are promising. My big pick would be Monte Ellis from Golden State, they do not know what he is worth and he is a future All Star - in my opinion, no doubt! There may be others rated higher but this kid is a steal right now and GS is known for blowing it on letting promising players go. Jason Terry - maybe- nah he will want too much. We need a fast kid with good D and Monte is both. I am sorry I just do not see the Smush and Sasha show making it to the finals. I want to beleive it but man thats a long shot.
We have an oppurtunity to get 2 at home and I am hopeful that Smush is really hot at home - he may be the biggest factor in the series. Luke shold be hitting at home too. Truly inspirational defense though the last 2 games. Keep it up Lakers!
