Lakers Trivia Question of the Day
Since defense is on everyone's mind heading into tonight's game against Orlando, here's a defensive oriented question for the the day:
Since the 1973-74 season, only six Lakers have led the team in blocked shots for a season. Name them.

Wow.
Wilt Chamberlein.
Shaquille O'Neil
Kareem Abdul Jabaar
Ummm... did you say six? Umm...
Cedric Ceballos
Kurt Rambis
Vlade Divac
I know... I know I should be ashamed of myself. At least I got half of them right.

"Since the 1973-74 season, only six Lakers have led the team in blocked shots. Name them."
Actually, there have been 31 Lakers who have the led team in blocked shots since then
Posted by: Joe | February 28, 2006 at 02:13 PM
Sorry if it wasn't clear. I was looking for single season block leaders (as opposed to individual games). In that category, according to my info, only six different Lakers have led the team since '73-74.

Wilt (x2)
Shaq (x2)
Kareem (x2)
yup there's the six...

Elmore Smith
Kareem
Vlade
Elden Campbell
Shaq Fu
Chris Mihm
Just guessing, didn't look anything up. I'm thinking there's gotta be someone in the late 80s when Kareem was getting old (rambis? ac green? mychael thompson? worthy??), which would displace Vlade on this list. But who knows.

BK
I think you want the Laker that lead the league not the team leader, right .
In that case Joe is still right there are 31 players who led the Lakers (or the 'team' as you put it) in total blocks/blocks per game...
But we get it, league leading Lakers.
I'm sticking with my answer
Posted by: Scott | February 28, 2006 at 02:43 PM
No, Scott. Since '73-74, only 6 different Lakers have led the TEAM in blocked shots. In other words, the majority of these cats did it a few times. But that's what he's looking for. Strictly led the team, not the league.

OK OK I get it ...
Posted by: Scott | February 28, 2006 at 02:57 PM
And for league leading Lakers, you're off by two of your three. Shaq, for example has never led the league in either total blocks or blocks per game.
(Sorry, not trying to pick on you, I just didn't see that AK had already corrected you, and I actually looked the other part up. I'm not gonna waste research...)

Damned if I know I didn't even understand the damn question... I thought it was a Wonderlic question or something (yes I am having a Vince Young moment).
After Kareem and before Elden or Vlade it gets pretty fuzzy, but then again I am only 23 so I was like 4-6 years old at the time, so it should be fuzzy.

Scott & Joe,
I think what BK is saying that although there are 31 seasons to cover, there's been only 6 players that at the end of the season have the most blocks for the Lakers. For example, when Shaq was on the team, he probably easily led the team for all the years he was here. When Wilt was here, he was probably the team leader every year he played here. With the Lakers history of talented big men, it's not too hard to envision only needing 6 players to cover 31 seasons worth of games, but pretty impressive. My question would be who did it last season, because that's going to be one of the six and probably a first-timer. Mihm? Kobe maybe?
Unfortunately I'm not a trivia buff and have only been following the team for 6 years, so I've got no clue who the others would be besides the obvious.

TrueLakerFan, did you mean Eddie Jones - if so, there's NO way he led the team in blocked shots ever.

For the Wiltie lovers out there. . . . I'm a big Wilt fan too and he did block a lot of shots. BUT . . .
Wilt left the Lakers after the 72-73 season, so he can't possibly be one of the answers for the period starting in 73-74 (he was the player-coach for the ABA's San Diego Conquistadors that year, although the courts bought the Lakers' arguments so Wilt couldn't actually play for S.D. . . . doesn't everyone know this?).
Also, the NBA only started keeping blocked shots stats after the _______ (?1973?) season, so we'll never know how many Wilt blocked for most (all?) of his seasons anyway.

Yes "TrueLakerFan" most of us are "idiot" and you have the "prooof". Your ability to speak (or type) english might suggest the same of you .... IDIOT.
I know you were typing to fast, right?
Your answer also suggests you are the idiot, Wilt was playing on the San Diego ABA team in '73, Eddie Jones?, and Kwame can't lead the team for a season if hasn't even finished one yet.
But then again we're the idiots
