Lakers vs. Bucks
Tonight, they looked like a team.
The encouraging signs (remember, this is done quickly, stream of consciousness- I'm sure the Lakers Blogosphere is jacked up tonight and ready to talk... or type. Feel free to correct me if/when I'm wrong...):
-Lamar Odom: The complete game that Lakers fans have been clamoring for, complete with quality shooting. I liked that he recognized the matchup with a weaker defender (mostly Bogut, Kukoc) and consistently and aggressively exploited it.
-Sasha Vujacic: Forget the fact he only scored 6 points. In only his 4th career start, Sasha had four assists, and managed to play credible defense on T.J. Ford, a guy so quick he's made Iverson look slow on occasion. It helped that instead of backing off, theoretically giving himself more time to react (space the Bucks guard would have exploited), Vujacic played Ford tight, giving him as little room to work with and using his size to his advantage. Aggressive play on the perimeter, pressuring the ball.
-Smush Parker: Again, he shows a great knack for jumping on loose passes, or capitalizing on a ball handler who loses focus. You have to be impressed with his ability to pressure. More importantly, he was able to convert those turnovers into points. I'm pretty sure the Lakers were nearly perfect in that regard, especially in the 1st half.
-Kobe Bryant: Smooth and controlled all night. A couple of shots that make "bad Kobe" watchers cringe, but otherwise was in the flow. Loved the baseline pass to find Smush in the corner. On other nights (Sunday, perhaps?) Kobe would have tried to force his way up to draw the foul. By the way, how the hell did the Bucks let him make that pass anyway? The stress of that moment probably cost Terry Stotts a year of his life.
-Luke Walton: Got used on the defensive end a couple of times (get used to it, folks), but again he showed he can knock down the open jumper, which he'll have to do if he wants to stay on the court (and in the league).
-Von Wafer: Nailed the three, gets in the score book. Von Wafer! I'm telling you, it's just a taste of what's coming down the road (if I ever get a new PlayStation, I'm going to transform the Von Wafer on my Lakers roster into a hybrid of K.G. and D-Wade. Unstoppable).
I wondered why the Bucks didn't try to exploit their advantage inside, but the Lakers made it tough by putting so much pressure on the ball. They did a good job of finding the open guy, moving the ball, and moving themselves without it. One road game down, five to go. The Lakers have been horrible on the back end of back to backs, but with Toronto tomorrow night, they have an excellent chance to start 2-0 and eliminate "unmitigated disaster" from the list of possible outcomes of the trip before they land in Chicago.
Your thoughts?

Wicked game on all accounts. We never really let them back into the game all night, and I loved it.
For one of the first times all season, we came out strong pretty much every quarter and finished strong as well... gotta love that.

Nothing to say to the Kobe haters. Great game, otherwise, and loved the defense- 7 steals! It's games like this that make the San Antonio game seem more legitimate. Remember I predict 4-2 for this run.

Very interesting how nice the back court of Smush/Sasha worked. I think their total effort had to do with some of Smush's steals. But this guy, Smush Parker, has strong fingures. with the smallest contact he takes the ball out of anybodies hand. The surprising play of him, Smush, and Sasha is certainly great news for The Lakers. Tonight they just took all the small fast guards out of the game really early. And after that shot block by KOBE it was all over....Watchout for the Raptors though. alot like the lakers they have played some close games. Their record looks much worse than they really are.

Fantastic game! Kobe and Lamar got most of the credit, but if I was coaching the Lakers and I had a "Game ball" to give out then in my mind it is going to Smush Parker.
Seven steals! (Seven!) That is the sort of thing that really sets the tone for a game. He was the energy guy that got the rest of the Lakers going and opened up the game for everyone else.
Beyond that, everyone played the way that you know they can play when they are playing as a team and hitting on all cylinders. It helped that the Bucks look like they forgot to do a scouting report on the Lakers as each player on the team was pretty much able to do their favorite thing all night long. (I have NBA League Pass which means that I got the Bucks announcers for the game. I lost track of the number of times they said that the Bucks should try to make Lamar Odom go to his right.)
Our defense still needs a lot of work, but you have to like how many points we are putting up on offense this season.

The Lakers have to get that game in Toronto - 3 straight wins, even though the one to Charlotte was barely a win, would give a young team a lot of confidence. After all, if you're playing the right way - defense, good shots, etc., you would want to be rewarded. But lots of encouraging signs tonight.

I couldn't see the game (I live in Arkansas) but SportsCenter just got the Smush highlight reel Scot Van Pelt's been begging for. The box score shows LO was a monster, and with the Bucks bigs so inefficient, I can only imagine where the Lakers were getting the energy to pressure so much and run the court.
This was one of those sheets I can look at and tell people I'm not crazy. These Lakers playing at this level are a playoff team- PERIOD. Can they keep that up? Well, it's a looong roadie this week...
Still. Feels good, you know?

Kwame B. is probably going to be out for much longer than expected. It seems the Lakers are playing better without him, especially Mihm. Why aren't the Lakers pursuing the Bull's Tim Thomas who would be a great fit?
Posted by: earl | December 06, 2005 at 10:01 PM
There is no reason that this team cant continue to play this way the rest of the way. If reports are right that Phil has been working with Brown, this team should get bigger and better on both ends of the court in a few days. If Kwame can give us some muscle off the bench, the Lakers will definetly be a better team. They gave us a lot of hope tonight thats for sure.

For all the Kobe haters who said as Kobe goes so does the team. Ha! Ha, I say! You can see that when everybody OTHER than Kobe plays offence & defense, the team can win. As the team learns the offence and becomes more confident, Kobe will still score without being a ball hog. So I say, as the team goes, our wins go not Kobe. Great team game!

wow, lakers looked great tonight!!
hope this streak keeps up, TO is must win situation, damn i'm gonna miss that game, i have to be at work!
that sux but i will cheer for lakers all the way, although i'm from vancouver, i've been lakers fan since the beginning of kobe era,

For once, nothing negative to say. Period. Give our boys some love when love is due! This was a solid performance that we've been waiting for. Normally, us bloggers seem to want to point out a certain facet of the game so that we can feel we have credibility to provide a perspective that makes us look like a coach. Give me a break. Can we let up on OUR team that finally seems to have done what we've asked!?! (Like they care what we think) Best 48 minutes of the year. Smush stepped up (again) and is trying to make himself look legit since PJ called him out. NYC style. KOBE PLAYED WITHIN HIMSELF AND THE NEW LAKERS!!! Lamar did everything we've been asking....we crashed the boards! The Lakers just kept playing their game---crucial on the road. Sometimes you get a lead and play down to the opponent. I didn't see that at all. We kept on it...like we should on the road...and played the game we've all been asking for. Nothing more to say. Great game TEAM! I'm still applauding...

Kobe Bryant??..SUPERB
L.O.??...EXCELLENT
SMUSH??...STICKY FINGERS
As long Kobe has the support from his teamates..they're a playoff team. Lamar did an excellent game...almost triple double. Smush..I don't know what to say with this guy..he's amazing..just keep bringing your "A" game every night. Sasha did good defense.
Toronto tomorrow guys...time to show a "show no mercy" game. As long their focus with the game...I think they're okay on their roadie week.

First I want to say good game guys!!! I hope with the win tonight it will give the LAKERS the confidence that they are lacking in each other. Second the Lakers need to work on getting the same type of performances from Smush that they got tonight, every night.
Side note have you guys thought about how many fans are on this blog from other city's? Im a Laker fan from LA liven in Florida and I dont have the NBA package so I get my Laker info from AK/BK so I just wanted to thank you guys.So thank you for giving me my fix!!!

This is the game we have been waiting for...
The best performance by the Lakers thus far this season. If we can bring this momentum into Toronto, we'll be on a 3-game streak. If I recall, the Lakers didn't manage to do that all last season.
GO LAKERS!!!!!

This is the best performance for the Lakers this season.
They have the capability of playing very well. Hopefully as they gel as a team, they can be more consistent and can play better.
Play smart. Play hard. Play as a team. That's the mark of a champion.
The Lakers have that in them. They have to want it every day, however, in order to be a great team.
They lead Utah by 15 points - but lost the game in the second half, the fourth quarter when they lost concentration and did not play smart and hard.
They lead Minnesota by 18 points - but lost the game in the second half, the fourth quarter when they lost concentration and did not play smart and hard.
Now, they lead Milwaukee by 19 points. And they maintained their intensity, smart, hard work, and teamwork! Wow! Best game of the season.
This team has a lot of potential.
It's nice to see Kobe working within the flow of the team game rather than forcing bad shots or trying to draw fouls all the time.
Hopefully Kobe works on avoiding faking a shot with every shot, heeding Phil Jackson's remark. This way, he can work to get better shots rather than taking wild ones. Through the years, it was evident that Kobe - because of his predictable fake then shot - was easily contained by taller players. By learning instead to work on positioning himself for a better shot, rather than faking a shot to create space, Kobe will be more consistent and will be in a better position to take a high percentage shot. This will also help Kobe work with the team since he then wouldn't be dribbling so much - causing teammates to stand around watching him.

So let me just make sure now: the sky is NOT falling???? Wow. Slow and steady is the way.

Great game tonight. Toronto is a must win for this team. If they get out of Toronto with a W, this team will have the confidence they need to step it up to the next level and get a little streak going. We need to stomp them out of their building and show no mercy. 5-1 on the road trip, sticking to it.

Weere the LAKERS playing out there? oh yeah, live another day boy, the show it's just about to start.
This is a game i have looked forward to watch. I been a fan of lakers since the Kobe era ( I am from Kosovo) there are alot of lakers fan out here cheering about a WIN 2night. I just hope LAKERS will continue to play this type of CRAZY games (makes my day parfect)
Go LAKERS

Phil Jackson is enjoying teaching this team. It's a blessing that Kwame has been out. There were too many things going on at once for this club. Kobe was adjusting to playing the 3. Lamar was making his shift to the 1/Pippen role. Smush Parker was adjusting to starting in the NBA. They were all adjusting to the triangle offense.
The thing you can begin to see is that the Laker coaching staff is just so fundamental in its approach. Tex Winter's system requires the players drill in all these basic elements of the offense. Once that becomes the practice habit of the players, then improvement starts to break out all over the roster. The players are now beginning to click with the basic looks of the offense. Once that happens, the coaches have a chance to move them into the world of options available in that system.
All of these things begin to add up, and the pressure on Kobe eases a bit. We think of John Paxson as the guy who hit the big shots for the Bulls (especially over the Lakers in 1991 and the Suns in 1993), but Paxson has told me about the days before Michael came to trust him in the offense, how hard they were on Jordan and how hard they were on the team.
You can see the trust spreading through the system as these new and young players find their way. First, they struggle to find their spots on the floor. Once they get used to finding them, they struggle with knowing what to do once they get there. Then it becomes a matter of their learning to read the defense and taking what the defense gives them. Each of these is very hard, takes quite some time. There will be plenty of opportunity for backsliding and mistakes as well. But the progress is tangible. It's also an incredibly fun thing to watch, Jackson building a team, building its confidence.
One of the nice factors is that people all over the league are beginning to see Chris Mihm as a legit NBA center, a factor. You hear less talk about his lack of consistency, his poor play on the road, or his excessive fouling. Phil's approach is having a dramatic impact with Mihm. The hope is that Kwame Brown will come back from his hamstring injury with a better sense of himself and the game. He'll need time, but if he's willing to work, I think we could see change begin to take hold with him as well.

Hi guys! This is my first comment, but I've been reading this blog since the beginning of the season. In response to LAKER JUNKIE, I think I'm writing from way much far than him. I'm from Barcelona (Catalonia/Europe), from where is Pau Gasol!
I'm a Lakers Fan since Magic time, and with Kobe, my love for the lakers has only growth. As you can figure, here is it very hard to watch Lakers games (we have 1 NBA game every night on TV, but normally few of them are a Lakers game, because the TV focus more on teams with European players) and to speak with people about them, so this blog is a very good thing for me!
Normally I follow the lakers game with yahoo gamechannel which is better than nothing.
About this year Lakers, only one word, be patient. I think they have some big potential. Odom and Kobe must fit well, smush can be a very good help, and I'm one of those that still believe that Kwame can be someday near Jermaine O'Neal... I only think that the Lakers need 2 or 3 players more to be a contender. A pure shooter, like Stojakovic, Redd,... To take scoring pressure off Kobe, a veteran and strong center able to fight with Shaq, Tim,..., and a guy that is able to make 10 assists every night.
Please, remember that here the vision of the NBA is not like in the USA, I hope to not be very wrong.

Wow.....BRAVO! What an exhibit. Smush had a great night that should boost his confidence and LO; what can you say? If you didn't look at the stats, one could asume that he had another average night. HE KILLED IT AND HE DID IT UNDERCOVER ALA ELTON BRAND STYLE!! I would like to recind my outlook of 2 wins tops and am calling for us to drop only ONE! Kobe was near perfect (still a few wild ones, but I don't mind a few) and really had the team involved. I can't wait for tonight.....

Guys,
Last night's win felt great.
SMMMMUUUUUUSSSSH!!!!
Lamar was great.
Everyone was solid.
We did let our lead slide a bit, but things still looked real good. I expect us to be .500 after tonight.
Hey, Blogmeisters! Could you set up some subject where we discuss primarily how great Kobe is?
I mean, I don't know what's up with Lakers fans (real and unreal) that we like to pick Kobe apart. Upon reflection, I suppose it may be because we rely upon Kobe so heavily and we all know he's one of the NBA Greats, but shouldn't we be thanking him instead of constantly trying to bring him down?
I mean, he is 3 assists short of passing Gail Goodridge (GAIL GOODRIDGE!) on the Lakers all-time assist rankings for eight place. That's huge!

The Sky is NOT falling.
Ideally, the Lakers will have a shot at getting another superstar in the free agent or trade market to make them championship contenders.
Realistically, that is not going to happen. There will be no Kevin Garnett or Amare coming the Lakers way. Every team will try to closely guard and sign their superstars. The Lakers were lucky when they got Shaq. That's something like a once in 20 years occurrence.
The Lakers have to build with their draft choices, free agent pickups, and mid-level trades. They have to develop players as oppose to bringing in mature players.
With that said, I think the Lakers have a good chance at developing into a highly competitive team with what they have. I'm glad they brought in Kareem to coach the big players. I hope Kwame is being also tutored by Kareem, not just Andrew. I hope the Lakers players are studying and practicing to be the best players that they can be. That is expected in a championship team.
If players can step out, take responsibility for leading the team - meaning to play hard and smart every single game, to practice hard and smart - the Lakers will do well. The current players who appear to be able to step out currently are Lamar and Smush. If they can do this with dedication, consistency, the Lakers are going to do well. When the other players also dedicate themselves, the team will be even better.

I'm not too excited yet about this Laker win. I want to see a little more balance. LO won't be able to have a monster game like that every night, so we need to get some more balance.
As I predicted yesterday, the Lakers came out with a lot of energy. In case you guys missed the post, I suggested that since the Bucks were considered one of the elite teams in the east, the Lakers would show up. They show more energy on the road when the team is considered good.
Hoopefully Toronto tonight won't show a lot of energy, because lately in back-to-back situations the Lakers are dead in the second half.
Posted by: Zen | December 07, 2005 at 08:09 AM
Lakers are Prefect yesterday. Can they repeat this tonight and then with Bulls? This road trip is a big test for Lakers. I hope they pass the Test. I am hoping they will pass. At some point the stars should be aligned.
Lakers need 15-20 points bench production. I did not see this yesterday as all starters are playing good. Luke got 7 and George got 2. Rest 6 points by bynum and von in trash time. But every game will not be as perfect as this. So bench production is a must in order to get some road wins consistently. Phil should play Profit and Von Wafer frequently.
KOBE is simply awesome. Lamar will be close to Triple double every game. Smush is the stealer.
GO LAKERS!!!

To all recentley converted Clipper fans...... Where are you today?............I read all of the posts above.. what happend to all of the guys demanding that we trade Kobe? He looked like a good teamate last night....his trade value has gone up.
To the real fans......... keep the faith. and like KB8 Fan said above, the sky is NOT falling just Kobe Js.

TRUST
TRUST
TRUST
The keyest factor for any success this year.
The players on the floor must trust this championship winning system. Just look how its developed Sasha and Luke as legit NBA players. Confidence is brewing high with these kids. TRUST.
The players must trust PJ in his teachings. Remember a guy by the name of KWAME?? Kwame if you trust, you may end up being our very own Elton Brand. Just listen and TRUST.
Finally TRUST your teamates. KB8 is the maestro, and it seems as if the everyone outside of LA (well, you have got to INCLUDE PLASCHE and ADANDE ... by the way they loved you dearly when you won championships, but seem to be long gone)DONT APPRECIATE YOU ... My LORD did you guys see MR. PIPPEN (same guy who got abused everytime they faced eachother, same guy who conducted training camp in Hawaii this year) ... I cant really reiterate here, but the message is clear ... THEY DONT LIKE YOU. Message to KOBE if you continue to TRUST this way and Listen to PJ this way, I can assuredly promise a 35.0 ppg 6.0 ass. 6.0 rebs (thats minimum).
TRUST TRUST and KOBE, You gotta TRUST!!
Posted by: ramy | December 07, 2005 at 08:36 AM
see what happens when a team just puts the effort out there? basketball isn't rocket science as the lakers do their best to make it so sometimes. basketball is the ultimate example of a team sport. if the lakers put out at least the same tenacity and smarts at both ends, they'll be alright the rest of the way. this is the kind of game they can build on. kudos for everyone!
Posted by: Eric | December 07, 2005 at 08:39 AM
That was the best game of the year period. From opening tip to final buzzer, the Lakers actually looked like a team that played with confidence and well, as a team. I hope from now Kobe will not jack up 30 shots, unless he is sure he can make at least 50% of them. I noticed that after Kobe takes a bad shot, the opposition gets the rebound and seems to alway score on the other end. That kills momentum. Lamar needs to do exactly what he did last night, and if Smush and Sash play defense like that in the backcourt.. wow.. This team can go nowhere but up.
As for the next game.. Mihm's gotta hang in there because Chris Bosh and Charlie Villanueva are pretty damn good, not to mention Mo Pete! He had a pretty good game to last night. But I still predict a win. 2-0 to start the roadie... fo sho.
Posted by: Chris | December 07, 2005 at 08:40 AM
I have the league pass as well and the best moment of the night was the announcer saying, "Lamar goes left, score", after beating his defender but before he had made it to the hoop. You gotta love it when a team doesn't do their homework.
Posted by: Andrew | December 07, 2005 at 09:00 AM
Look at the box score:
19-22 from the stripe = outstanding.
41 rebounds, 15 offensive, edging out the best rebounding team in the league.
11 turnovers (a couple in garbage time), while forcing 16. And the Lakers capatalized on just about every one of them.
3 players with 20+ points.
Kobe going 14-24 with 6 assists. 6 assists instead of shot attempts, just what we have been asking for.
The Bucks have a very solid stating 5, and one of the best back courts in the league. What an impressive job by the Lakers. Phil's decision to start Sasha at 2 and move Kobe to 3 proved to be excellent, but who could know how Smush and Sasha would completely disrupt Ford and Williams? Talk about exceeding expectations!
Odom looked to drive against mismatches, another aspect fans have been asking for. Hopefully the Lakers will be as effective when he can create a mismatch on the block.
Great game, great start. Well done!

Very nice game Lakers. Just don't let it go to your heads just yet and come in over confident vs Raptors. Still tough road games ahead, so 2-4 might be the best they get.
Posted by: vince | December 07, 2005 at 09:25 AM
TO PHIL:
Please, play Wafer and Profit much more. They seem to get better by the second.
As for George, you plainly said this in your BOOK; He will never be a starter in this league. To be honest with you, he ripped us off ever since he was awarded that contract.
Mr Kupchak, you should do that famous move you've done ever since being our GM. Trade George for future 2nd rd picks!!
Im sorry George, we just waited too long, your time is DONE.
Posted by: ramy | December 07, 2005 at 09:31 AM
I, too, would like to see Von Wafer more, hopefully he can get some more minutes tonight against Toronto to help keep the energy up.
I hate the Raptors--lame-ass expansion team with a cartoon dinosaur as a mascot.
They are the Mighty Ducks of basketball.

First, let me congratulate the Lakers for another win and even greater the best 2 halves of this young NBA season. I have stated to several people since the Summer of 2004, that the Los Angeles Lakers can be a successful franchise post-Shaq with Kobe Bryant as the main player. I was laughed at last year and this year has come with mixed responses thus far. Last year, the Lakers never seemed to be working up to some goal. However, this year they are gradually getting better with each game. My prediction is that by playoff time, they will not only be one of the eight teams, they will be one of the hottest teams at that time. My other prediction is that, positioning will be MOST important and the theme for the playoffs this season. Outside of the Spurs and Pistons, no other team is simply dominant across the board. For instance, Miami would be hard pressed to stay with Indiana, yet, they would most likely beat Dallas. At the same time, Indiana would have trouble staying with Dallas.
Forgive me for the length of this post, but I would like to say a few words about that roster fo the Lakers. First, I believe that they have enough pieces already to be a solid playoff team. There are two reasons why teams win championships....talent and cohesion. The Lakers have enough talent, they did last year as well (without injuries). The reason that they have failed to win a championship since 2002 is cohesion. This team has the ability to be a cohesive unit. If they are, they will win games. For sake of length, I will dedicate a later post to critiquing the roster completely....plus covering the Kobe-Haters.
Posted by: JJ | December 07, 2005 at 09:50 AM
Based on Ramy's post, what do you guys think of this trade scenario: Devean and Devin for Earl Watson. The money is close enough to make it work. The Nuggets need frontcourt help, the Lakers need backcourt help. This would allow the Lakers to play more 3 guard fronts like they did last night. It also gives the Lakers one less roster spot that they can use to sign another player (not Sprewell) that can help them up front. Remember, th

It's just one game people. If they can play consistently like this with kobe being a team player and odom taking care of mis matches they should be a contender in the near future.

For those of you who are upset at all the "trade kobe" and "ballhog" talk, I'm just letting you know that a lot of people will feel this way until the Lakers start winning. Kobe has to win a championship for all this criticism to go away.

The Mitch Kupchack era has begun! Kept KOBE, got Lamar, drafted Sasha, got Smush, drafted BYNUM.. Liking the future! Mitch even got a good bench! Got Mihm, kept Luke, got Kwame, drafted Wafer, got Laron.. Clap your hands for MITCH K!!! Best of all Got Phil, yey for Mitch K...
Who is better to train him than Jerry W.

Trade Kobe Bryant while he still HAS VALUE!!!! If the Lakers don't trade Bryant soon, he will get injured and lose value in what they can get in a trade. Those who say 'Kobe needs to have confidence in his teammates' fail to accept the fact that ALL of Kobe Bryants' teammates are PROFESSIONALS who GET PAID to be Basketball players!!! There is no TRUST ISSUE. They get paid to preform their jobs as NBA players, if not,..then they get released. Kobe has no right to even infer about a 'trust' issue, he just needs to PASS THE BALL!!!
Trade Kobe for LeBron James!!!!!
Fire Mitch Kupchak,.....he was NEVER a standout MBA player during his career,...so how does he know about personnel!!!
Lakers need to hire a GM that was a former Laker player that was an ALL STAR player, that KNOWS players!!! Not some former bench jockey as GM that...'couldn't shoot a pea in the ocean' nor make good Managerial decisions. Maybe that is why the Lakers can't get any Quality Veterans to play for them,.....Kobe Bryant(ballhog) and Mitch Kupchak (bench jockey)

Everyone chill out and take a deep breath. Granted that was the first decent game they've played this year but it was against a team barely above .500. I good game every 17 won't do it. The defense still isn't very good, most nights we only have one scorer who's effective and let's face it, this team is SOFT. There is no leadership amongst the players. Don't get too excited about this team, they are not built to last long.
Posted by: Gilligan | December 07, 2005 at 10:42 AM
A real perfect game. A true team game. It's not a Kobe team or Phil team, it is a team of many players and coaches. If Lakers could play this type of game against then they can play like that everytime or at least most nights. Go Lakers!!!

Steven,
You're insane. You should stick to posting commentary on Professional Lacrosse blogs about teams you've never even seen play.
I think your words would be more valuable in that regards.

Roland Lazenby,
Great comments, as always. I'd sure like to see you interviewed on this blog.
By the way, I'm a Raptor-hater and I hope that the Lakers come out and smash that team as a warning to all other teams.
I want to see that silly dinosaur mascot broken and bleeding in the frozen streets of Toronto after the game (metaphorically speaking).
I hope Kobe scores 60 tonight.

To those suggesting we don't get over excited about this win: It's obvious that this team has a long way to go, why bother pointing out the obvious?
To steven: Please get a clue. Team chemistry is not built overnight. It takes time for players to get to know each others' games. With the exception of Kobe, who on the team is a champion? These players need to earn Kobe's trust, just as Kobe needs to bolster their confidence. In a way it's a catch 22, but since the guys look to Bryant for leadership, he needs to take the initiative here. He did exactly that in this game, which gives us hope for the future.
As far as GMs needing to be allstars, let me point out that Isiah Thomas is an All-Star and R.C. Buford isn't. It means nothing.
Veteran players are looking for either: Top dollar or a championship contender. The Lakers can offer neither of those things at the moment. If, however, the team can parlay this performance into an identity (as in a TEAM concept), then we will look much more appealing to FA's.
